That would require the Jays passing them. That's not going to happen.

That walk off 2 run homer by Metz to win 9-7 was crushing. Terrible by Yankees to let them back in, what a horrible run lately.

Bullpen is terribly at the minute.

Mets owed the Yankees one for Sunday. Happy to see Alonso smoke one for his first walk off homer.

Max Fried to the IL for the Braves.

That's 100 percent of the original starting 5 down now.

Yankees suck season's over, I don't care if Brian Cashman went down to give a pep talk for the first time in 11 years, fucking embarrassing. Not making the playoffs when more than half the teams are making the playoffs. Dreadful. Fuck.

Well if they can just get back to playing even close to their talent level they have a shot. Schedule down the line looks full of Baltimore, Marlins and Boston games.

Really hope Cubs dont have to give fuck all for Jose Martinez. Dont think he has been in uniform for a week and hes already demoted down to the minors after an 0-14 start. Just shy of an all time worst start in history for a cubs player.

Adam Duvall with a 2 run, 3 run, and grand slam homer so far.

A solo dinger short of the home run cycle.

29-9 at the end of 7.

A week ago the Yankees had dropped to .500, and were playing terrible. Then they became the Bronx Bombers again. 19 homers in the last 3 games.

The Yankees getting hot at this point in the season is not good for everyone else. 5 HRs in an inning is insane.

    God I love baseball.

Blue Jays pitching was tragic. I suppose that is the issue when you only have 1 real starter and 1 end of rotation starter.

Cole Hamles done for the season after only one start with the Braves. Reason, oldness.

Well thats it for the Braves then. They have a league best offense but you have to have pitching in the post season and we have Fried, Anderson and that's it. No off days means the rotations wont be three man only this year and we just have nothing else for the 3 4 and 5 spot. Nothing but garbage and trash.

    Bummer.

Bottom of the 8th coming up. Wondering if your guy is being left in there too long. Hoping.

Edit: Guess not. He was still throwing well before they took him out. I think I'd have left him in actually.

I would’ve left him in, but oh well. The Reds has zero offense today. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Yeah it wound up looking like you could have taken him out earlier and nothing would have changed. Solid pitching performances all around. 1st ever playoff game to go scoreless into the 12th. Ass tons of strikeouts. I know it wasn't exciting but that was a fucking playoff baseball game right there.

Atlanta snaps its 19 year drought without winning a playoff series.

Fuck I was 21 years old and working at Wal-Mart...

    Anyway, bring on the Cubs/Marlins.

19 year droughts suck. Now imagine it was 21 years without even making the playoffs. That was some true pain.

Never had the pleasure of rooting for a team that's that bad for that long.

I could do it and would but I dont want to. I respect those who do though. Those fans that show up and root for teams that are just endlessly awful and bad and never have any hope of getting better.

The real issue was that when the Jays were good in those years. The Yankees and Red Sox were also good.

My worst nightmare. Dodgers are the better team but STL fucking kills us sometimes.

I am very worried about SD this year. If they get through and get their pitching back they could win it all easily.

As a lifelong Detroit sports fan, I can say that fans who continue to support shitty franchises are the worst. Despite decades of incompetence, they will continue to support a team that continuously screws them over. They are the kind of people who thank Satan for an eternity of hellish punishment.

Damn TIgers should have gotten at least one World Series between 2006-14...

I'm not sleeping on any team that has Freddy Freeman.

I think this is the best dodgers team in a long time and I'm hopeful we can take the series this year.

I have zero confidence as you might imagine.

    zero.

    NONE.

My dad is a bit of a lapsed baseball fan. Mostly because he only cares about the Dodgers and has kind of given up on them. If the Braves can't get it I'd love to see the Dodgers win it.

    Anyway, bring on the Cubs/Marlins.
The Reds embarrassed themselves in that series, offensively. Their best player, Bauer, is pretty much guaranteed to be gone; he's already on Twitter interacting with San Diego and Atlanta fans/players talking about potential suitors. Their second best player in the series was Castillo, by default. The offense looked like shit. It was boom-or-bust, and they busted in the biggest way possible.

Well they were never going to be that good offensively in the playoffs. Those guys have been homerun or nothing all year.

But yeah. Not goig to win many games scoring zero runs.

NY media has its eyes all over Bauer joining the Mets as the #2 to deGrom. I don’t see it happening in the slightest.

    Huge move if true.

The Mets will find it very hard to not score at all for two different pitchers.

Considering you are a very smart man I must say this validates how stupid the playoff system is and the season is hereby cancelled. Except for who won their divisions. That still stands.

Much happier about playing the Marlins than the Cubbies. Anything can still happen but the Cubs are just good. The Marlins are still a year from being really good.

Looks like this is the end of the road for some of the core guys that won the series in 2016 for the Cubs. Don't worry guys it's not going to be another 100 years.

Best to cancel baseball right now. Give the dodgers the super asterisk world series title and call it a day. I am worried about the safety of the players. If trump can get it ANYONE can get it.

Anyone who never wears a mask and who makes fun of everyone who's ever worn a mask, seen a mask, likes the movie Mask (Not THE Mask with Jim Carrey, MASK with Eric Stoltz) can get it.

RIP to one of the greatest, most clutch pitchers ever - Bob Gibson passed away from cancer.

His stats are scary, especially 1968.

I have an uncle who shared his exact birthday. He was a huge fan of Gibby, and when I was a kid playing wiffle ball with him, he used to tease my brothers and me that everyone born on November 9, 1935 was great at baseball. Other times he'd say that he and Gibby were twins separated at birth - then he'd try to convince us to tell our friends at school that Uncle Lew and Bob Gibson were twins separated at birth. I almost did, before my older brother told me that Gibson was black and Uncle Lew was just pulling my leg.

    Braves are in.

Allowed scoring in 3 innings through the first two rounds. Offense looks good. I like our chances.

It would be. Because it might keep MLB from trying to do this expanded playoff bullshit beyond this season.

Would've helped if it had been a really small market team.

Omg please them be the ones that eliminate the Yankees.

Its hard to figure out the Yankees this year, and since I root for them I won't count them out. And I like Cole tonight.

RIP to another great World Series pitcher. Whitey Ford has passed away at 91.

Whitey always came off as a great competitor, one who wouldn't be rattled no matter the pressure, but also a guy who you'd want to have a beer with. I recall hearing him tell a story about how when he was a teenager in the minor leagues, his manager (former Yankee Lefty Gomez, the guy who gave him the nickname Whitey as he couldn't remember names) had imposed a 10PM team curfew. A carnival was in town across from the hotel, and he and his teammate decided to take one last trip on the Ferris Wheel at 9:40. The ride operator wouldn't let them off despite their hollering, and they ended up getting fined $5 by Gomez, who was waiting in the lobby, for breaking curfew by a few minutes. A number of years later, between games of a double header, Gomez was being interviewed by DiMaggio, and he confessed that he had paid the ride operator a couple dollars to not stop - told them give them an extra long ride, as this hayseed had never been on a Ferris Wheel after a drink or two before, he was convinced he'd lose his dinner. So after the interview, Whitey called Gomez out - you SOB, how could you keep that from me all these years! Gomez laughed it off and told how he'd gotten a lot of mileage out of that story at banquets. Whitey said at least you can pay me back the $10. Gomez reached into his pocket and paid him back. Whitey got his revenge, as he'd only been fined $5.

I doubt his WS record of 33 2/3 scoreless innings pitched will be broken.

RIP Joe Morgan. Years ago, I had the honor of shaking his hand at one of the Pizza Hut pre-spring training exhibition all-star softball games. He was perhaps the friendliest player there - he and Willie Stargell both came out to the grass behind the outfield to smile and shake hands with the fans.

He will be missed on broadcasts, as well. He had a gift of saying something obvious, but not making it sound condescending, but instead he made fans watching remember how FUN the game of baseball can be.

I’d root for the Braves in the World Series. I’d root for the Rays too.

I’ll definitely root for the Astros because I enjoy chaos and I’d love to see the reaction to them winning.

And right here is why the Braves can't actually win a 7 game series with no days off. No matter how good we've looked. Time to stop pretending now. It was fun. No team with only two consistent starters can win this way.

Wait till next year when we actually have our best pitcher healthy...

The Braves pitching is ridiculously good. I have zero confidence. You only need to win 2 more and we cant hit your top 2.

Platoon game tomorrow. There is a good chance for the Dodgers to tie it up 2-2. Then game 5. MAYBE Max can go on 4 days rest. Maybe he can't. If not. Platoon game number 2. Dodgers can go up 3-2 quite easily.

Then you have to beat either Max or Ian because we'd have to win both.

I'd give the Dodgers a 60% chance at winning this series.

Bottom line is the Braves will need to win one of the next two for me to feel like they have a real shot. I don't think we can come back from 3-2 down. But let's see what happens tomorrow.

This may get reported on as another game where Kershaw blew it but the truth is he was pitching like a hofer then they left him in there way too long, his bullpen let the guys on base score and now the score looks the way it does.

Braves up 3-1 but they had to have this win tonight. Max Fried will not be going tomorrow on short rest and after the shit show yesterday two things became true.

    1. The Braves had burned up a lot of arms.
    2. The Braves were going to need a lot of arms for the next two days with no real starters left on the team.

So Wilson went out there and pitched his ass off and the Dodgers dodgered and left Kershaw out there too long and we got the win.

Tomorrow will likely be a nasty game that's impossible to win for the Braves simply because I have no idea what we can put out there on the mound at this point and still have anything left for the final two games.

So L.A. should win game 5 and make it 3-2 and then Atlanta will need to win one of the final two to take this thing.

3-1 is more like 50/50 from where I'm sitting. But we have a real shot here.

And that's from like 100% of history where you only had to have three starters. This no days off shit is weird af and we just don't have the starting depth of even an average team. Let alone the Dodgers.

    I maintain my paranoia...

Yes I will be this insufferably paranoid all the way through till the end of our postseason.

about time for another 3-0 comeback in baseball. I'm here for it.

I wouldn't say I'm rooting for the Astros but I hope it's a close game today. some good sports drama.

The only way I would approve of Houston winning is if the dodgers make the comeback and we get the ultimate battle of good versus evil ending in the 2nd LA major sports championship in a month.

I agree, Houston vs LAD would be epic and I think the masses would get behind the Dodgers to defeat the cheater scum. If houston wins today then rolls over the Braves that would be the absolute worst.
