Nice! I'd like to play Bay Hill at some point. A couple years ago I played Abacoa and Sand Hill Crane down in Jupiter. Abacoa was tough but beautiful.

Just grabbed a ticket for Cubs/Red Sox @ Wrigley. Don’t know why I was surprised the bleachers were as much as they were price wise, but really should’ve realized it would make sense.

And Chris Sale will start the year on the DL.

    Because of fucking course.

Whatever, if he just misses the first week or so, that's fine. Better to get him right and build his arm up on the normal spring training schedule so hopefully he can last the whole season. I can get on board the conservative approach given that he hasn't held up the last 2 years.

The Yankees on the other hand are really catching the injury bug early.

My concern is more that he doesn’t exactly have a track record of being healthy for a full season anyways. I get that he is just sick and therefore a couple weeks behind, but this will prob be a rough enough year as it is. And like him or not (I didn’t) you did still lose your healthiest pitcher in Price, so for the first couple weeks pitching will be even tougher.

And yeah, Yankees picking up right where they left off injury wise from last year.

I suppose if I had to pick division winners today it would be:

    Yankees
    Indians
    LAA
    WC: TWINS

    DODGERS
Braves(LOL at the entire NL East)
    Reds
    WC: Diamondbacks

The Astros arent missing by accident. They will make the list next year when we see what the team looks like without knowing what pitches are coming. I have a feeling they are going to have the most baserunners at first base of all time and still not be good enough to fight off the media, the fans, the guilt and fucking KARMA.

Let's hope anyway. Would be much better for baseballs rehabilitation if the Astros are shit.

No. I dont rate Twins quite as high as everyone else and I suspect the indians will be better than expected. Clevenger I expect to have a really special year and for the division to be relatively weak.

    Break it down!

I have the Braves, Nationals and maybe the Phillies ahead. I actually think the Nats are the sleeper of the division considering Rendon loss.

Nobody can be better after losing a Rendon but they still have a monster rotation.

I'd go Braves, Nats, Mets though.

Philly keeps spending but keep getting worse. Mets had a great second half last season.

He deserves it. He’s either the 2nd or 3rd best in the game right now.

I have Mookie second, but the arguments are there.

No matter who is two or three, they are both significantly below number one anyhow, which is staggering.

I'm good with that, the season is too long anyway. What I'm really curious about is how they will handle the schedule re-arranging. If they shorten the season and cut off the beginning of it, some teams will have more home games than others. How will that work? I assume they won't completely re-do the schedule since tickets are already sold so do we just live with an uneven schedule? I'm fine with that personally but it does add an element of competitive advantage.

I'm sure they'll just do double headers and shit to make the number of games each team plays even out.

They def don't want to extend the season past where it already runs into October. If they want to get to 162 it would be possible just with a few less off days and a few more double headers but the players union would probably shit themselves.

Also I just read that the two week thing is just wishful thinking on MLB's part and that they are already planning for games to not start until june.

Sucks cause I love baseball. But with all the other sports suspending this had to happen too.

Odd thing is they're still playing spring training games. Like right now.

June or July is probably realistic without fans. I suspect we wont have any Major US Sports played with fans in 2020.

Yea it doubt it will be just 2 weeks. So if months of the season get chopped off that's when the schedule gets messed up. Like theoretically you could miss 12 games with your division rival and only have 4 left on the schedule, while having 16 against your other division rival. That kinda thing.

I don't think that's right. Not based on what we have seen and what science has been telling us for years regarding climate change.

Yes all the Zoonotic diseases are greatly perpetuated by the polar ice caps melting off. This has dated back to Mers and Sars. Everyone in the science field knew this was coming and we still arent prepared.

    We'll never go full lockdown.

    Would hurt the economy.

But we're getting about as locked down as possible for us.

Yeah no question about the economy. I think we are just gonna get locked down anyway.

This doesnt go away by magic or the sun. Social separation is the only way to "flatten the curve" or whatever the hot term is. The expectation is that as soon as China(and anyone) begins congregating again it will return.

The LAFD and LAPD are already in full lockdown preparation. I expect it to happen as early as next week.

The thing is, this isn't an undefeatable plague from outerspace. 62'000 people have contracted it and fully recovered. The grid isn't going down and life isn't going to stop.

But some old people, babies and folks with immune problems are going to die for sure. And its gonna suck. But so did H1N1 and every other weirdo disease that bred in a Chinese chicken factory or melted out of the ice.

Everyone just wash your hands and if you're sick try to stay away from others.

    ...baseball.

Baseball should be played in full with no fans. Its airborne so washing hands is only gonna clean your hands of what's on them.

Honestly don't know why they dont. I guess the tv contracts don't mean that much to them. Or maybe MLB gets paid anyway regardless if something lke this happens.

Because it still takes a lot of people in the same area to play the games. 26 players on each team, four umps, grounds crew, production crew, clubhouse staff. Not to mention teams have to fly to games, bringing them into contact with untold numbers of people in the airports.

I went to a many of cubs games in the mid 2000s with little to no fans. Was a blast. Got to sit 1st row above the cubs dugout and watch Clemens vs Maddox in an amazing pitcher's duel. I swear to god their was maybe 20 to 30 people there. Security gave no fucks where ya sat.

I dont see how they can do anything until tests are readily available to the point where it's clear that we have enough for sports.

Then they can put protocols and ettiquette in place so these guys dont get sick. Then once they have advanced testing we can think about easing in fans.

The reality feels much further away than a few months. More like goodbye 2020 sports and cross fingers for 2021.

When I was in college, the Mets were awful. Just plain terrible. So they had a promotion on Wednesday nights where you could get a seat in the grandstands for an empty soda bottle. (Just can’t recall if it was a Pepsi or a Coke).

A lot of good nights, watching other teams play great baseball and the Mets tripping all over themselves.

Oh I spent many miserable years in the late 90's and early 2000's at Dodgers games and remember thinking every year that "this was the year" we would finally beat the Padres and win the west(we rarely ever made the playoffs before the advent of the Wild Card and Kershaw developing).

Some very quiet nights at a stadium that holds 59k.

That's losing so many games that I doubt they'll make any effort to squeeze in more. Probably just call it a shortened season with a plague * and be done with it.

Well Cole Hammels probably won't be healthy until Mid May anyway...

Right. I’m just wondering due to the very selfish reasoning of having a bleacher seat ticket to Sox/Cubs

When he came to 2018 spring training, bulked up and throwing 100 mph, I told a Mets fan who's a friend of mine, that Syndergard would probably need Tommy John surgery or have rotator cuff problems within the next 5 years.

    What a shame.

Yeah it's been a well-spoken fear in my circle of Mets fans for a while now. Not only did he come to Spring Training bulked up that year, he also was very open about his goal to make his average speed for his fastball to be 100 MPH. It was a recipe for disaster. I'm shocked it took this long to happen, frankly.

Good thing the Mets decided to go heavy on starters for this year, if they even end up playing baseball.

Apparently on the mets website some of the players live streamed themselves playing one of the mlb games against whatever team they were supposed to play.

    Apparently it was pretty cool.

    And here it is

For those unaware, the previous game, they ordered a bunch of food and then left it all out in the office cuz they figured the cleaning crew would handle it.... but the next day was a holiday. So the CEO walked in to the place a mess with food everywhere. So their punishment was they couldn’t watch the game, but had to listen to someone give them play by play. The original person was being flown in from Chicago, but his plane was late. So they grabbed one of the girls in the office who knows nothing about sports...... and magic happened.

All the ppl in the background can see the game, so they’re dying over the ppl in the foreground having to listen to a girl who has no idea what’s going on.

This is a bit random, but I bought MLB The Show 20 yesterday. It is a welcome distraction from everything going on in the world, and an ok substitute to the season not going.

I forgot that Nike was helping with jerseys this year, and their logo on the jerseys looks really sweet. Here are some other random uniform updates

The Rangers updated the front font of their jerseys. It is cursive instead of their former font (which is still on the back of the jerseys) but looks good.

The Padres went full pinstripes. It'll take some time to get use to, but it looks crips. Odd that brown is the main color, but that is probably because they'd look like the yankees if they kept the navy color scheme.

The Brewers new uniform looks awesome. It is a yellowish-white color. I'm also a fan of the glove logo as well.

Through reputation, Knee says that the logo on the Yankees jersey is awfu. Of all of the, they are the one it looks weirdest on for historical purposes.

The Red Sox sign stealing penalties finally came down.

No penalties for Alex Cora, the front office, nor the players. (Cora is suspended for a year but only due to his violations on the Astros). They took a 2nd round pick from the Red Sox and suspended a replay operator (Watkins).

“I do not find that then-Manager Alex Cora, the Red Sox coaching staff, the Red Sox front office, or most of the players on the 2018 Red Sox knew or should have known that Watkins was utilizing in-game video to update the information that he had learned from his pregame analysis,” Manfred wrote in Wednesday’s report. “Communication of these violations was episodic and isolated to Watkins and a limited number of Red Sox players only.”

They reportedly found no violations in the 2018 playoffs. So in other words, a minor offense and a minor penalty, nothing like the Astros scandal. Alex Cora could possibly be reinstated by the Red Sox in 2021.

The Astros are huge winners in the Covid-19 pandemic. They won't have fans berating them at every away ballpark this year.
