This team could be really scary with that rotation the rest of the way.

Justin vs. Max in game 7?

Yeah it does sort of feel like a race to see who can get spanked by Houston in the series.

Well problem is they used their best two pitchers in one game. By the time their turn comes up it, they could be down 2-0. and Max hasn't been the same for a month now.

that error last night was bad but the game would have been tied anyway. the error let the winning run score, which is big, but soto was also really dumb to get throw out on the play. without the error, figure 2 runs would have scored to tie the game and the nats would have had a chance to keep the inning going with runners on 1st and 2nd or 3rd. might have been the same result anyway.

still, a very bad error in the biggest moment of their season.

tough tough loss for the Brewers.

    wild card games are great.

Gotta feel bad for Trent Grisham, but I hope he realizes he's a big reason the Brewers got that far.

"It's going to sting. It's going to sting for a long time," he said. "Essentially gifting the Nationals a divisional berth. It's going to hurt. And I expect it to hurt when I debrief and go into the offseason."

For those of you already conceding the Astros winning the AL pennant, don't count out how good my Yankees have been playing all year. Winning 103 games, with the most players on the IL ever, with the best bullpen in the game, and should not be taken lightly.

follow up to my above post, it's possible Grisham could have thrown out the tying run at the plate if he fielded it cleanly and threw a dart to home plate, but with runners moving on contact I think it would have been unlikely. granted I have no idea if Grish has a good arm or how fast Stevenson is running the bases.

and I don't consider any team a shoe in to beat any team. it's the postseason. teams get hot. teams get cold in a hurry. legitimately, anything can happen.

with the yankees though, their lack of starting pitching is what makes them a long shot. severino needs to step into mid season form in a hurry.

Yeah that game was a full throttle, running start, heel toed boot, field goal kick to the nuts if you were a Brew fan.

    Sorry man.

Anyone have a vested interest in the game tonight?

I don't really but as a kid the A's were the coolest thing in baseball with Ricky Henderson, The Bash bros and The Eck. I still like to root for the green machine.

Just please please please no Nats vs Braves NLCS. As a phillies fan, that would be a nightmare scenario. and please no Nats vs Yankees. It would actually force me to cheer for the Yankees.

The Phillips are about next season away from being really good.

    I'm totally praying for a Braves/Nats NLCS.

Goofy base running for us so far today.

Flaherty has been lights out the last few months. If they can roll back to STL up 2 then that's huge for them especially with Waino who has been an Ace type pitcher at home

Acuna had better run hard today. I don't care if he's just walking to the on deck circle.

    He had better RUN.

Tense ending. I'd have kept Max in there for the 9th but whatever.

It's 1-1 going into St. Louis with who I feel is our best pitcher starting.

    I’d like to get Verlander’s d.

And you should, Torn. Justin’s whole career is because of me. I’m clearly the one who should go into the HOF.

That would obviously be incredible. I just don't see Crane paying $100M+ to the first three in your rotation.

On top of other guys that are due up in the next couple or so years.

    Please o please though.

Cole is great but the Dodgers are going to interfere with everyone's plans after they lose tomorrow and then beat the Nationals in 5. By the time that pussy Gerrit Cole faces the almighty Dodgers he will have already been shelled into scrubmission by the Yankees. I suspect the Astros will scrape by the Yankees but they will then face a strong and rested Dodgers team who will be coming off of a sweep of whichever piece of trash comes out of the other Division series.

He really shouldn't be a closer, too high pressure for him I think. His focus in certain situations is disconcerting... see game one

Fun fact: Morton's 2-seamer and curveball both average the exact same 18.6 inches of horizontal movement ... but they move in the exact opposite direction.
I feel like the laws of physics should make this impossible…

So, Grienke is a distant number 3...

Can't wait for the Astros to resign Cole and then sign Strasburg because sure why not.

Fucksake, if I start wearing a Houston cap, I'm going to feel like a dirty little slut.

Going to have to start making some new rules to balance out the league against Houston.

First off. If you hit a Houston hitter with the ball he's out.

Secondly they have to run to 3rd on every ball in play.

That ought to get things a little more evened out.

That's gotta hurt. The Twins had a remarkable season, but in the postseason they just made the Yankees pitching look even better. The Yankees are going all the way this year.

Then next year, they will repeat after they sign Cole and Strasburg.

Wasn't thrilled with JV taking the bump so soon, especially up a game. Couldn't help but trust his and Hinch's judgment though. Also with the fallout of a stinker tonight leading to Cole in gm 5 at home on full rest and enough time for Greinke, Verlander, and Cole to take games 1, 2, and 3 of the lcs rested up made it not sound so rash.

... and then we get shellacked. And damn.

    Boo 3 days rest.

    You were napping?

You may have the power to make your dreams happen in real life.

    I'd look into that.

But seriously the cards are red hot. That's the kind of momentum that can carry a team straight through to a title.

This was inevitable by the Braves. Honestly the series should have been over last night. The team is too beat up and too cold to hang with the big boys right now.

Too bad for us the playoffs didn't start in July.

And honestly I don't think the Nats or the Dodgers are playing that hot. The cards have a legit shot here.

    Yep.

Kershaw's HOF display better have his career postseason stats on it.

Word of advice to the cards.

Put your starters in at the end of the game. Pitch backwards against the Gnats.

If you told me before the season that the NLCS would be the Nats and Cardinals, I wouldn't have believed you and I would have bet a lot of money on Goldschmidt winning an MVP.

As for the Braves. My hopes are that they let Keuchel go and retain Josh Donaldson. I just like the guy and feel like he fits perfectly.

Other than that the Braves don't really need to do much. I mean I'm all for spending more money but we simply have to get over this mental hurdle of the divisional round. The talent is there. We just have to demand better results.

Oh and big thank you to Brian McCann. He retired after the game. His knees are just shit. He probably doesn't get into the HOF unless advanced analytics start becoming more of a deciding factor. His WAR is better than most HOF catchers but his basic stat line isn't really enough. But a great catcher and master game caller. I will miss him.

Lots of blame to go around. Hopefully Kershaw doesnt retire. There are videos on youtube of fans in the parking lot running over his jersey in the lot after the game. Pretty shitty. Kershaw is an excellent 3rd or 4th starter on an excellent team. He just cannot be put into these high leverage situations in the playoffs anymore.

I'm rooting for the NL. I like both the Nats and the Cards this year and I equally dislike the Yankees and Astros. Maybe Tampa Bay will do the impossible. Still a lot of great baseball left.

If I had to guess in my emotional state, I pick the Cards and Astros to be there at the end.

    Cards in 6.

How do you figure this? If they retain Rendon, which they probably will, I don't see why they can't be this good for another 3 years.

As for the Dodgers, horrible decision to bring Kershaw in. I think everyone said this when the inning started. Maeda was pitching lights out. Him and the closer to finish the game would've worked just fine.

I am assuming the Yankees are cheering their asses off for the Rays here. If the Rays win today, then it will be Yanks vs Nats. If the Astros win then they are winning the whole thing. Hopefully Astros vs Cards.

He never could be trusted in those high leverage situations in the playoffs. He is a playoff bust.

Dave Roberts is going to get axed.

    Love my Cardinals.

Wouldn't be the first time they got hot at the right time and make a go of it.
