I'm a Mets fan so the blue and orange NY always looks good to me.

But my favorite non-Mets hat is the Blue Jays hat Fro posted. I have one of the Franchise '47 version I wear golfing. Which reminds me, am I the only guy who hates the structured hats? I can't wear the 59Fifty hats because of that stupid structure panel in the front. So uncomfortable.

that's a good call, it's a strangely small D, like they need to go up 1 font size. but I like the style of it.

I have a small head so hats never fit me well. the flat brim ones look preposterous on me. it's depressing because I feel like I could be a hat guy/cool hat collector if I had the head for it.

I cannot unsee that, and it will eternally bug me. Also, I love the Twins fan, but I wanted to take the homer out of the discussion.

I feel your pain, Fro. I have to have two different size hats because I shave my head in the summer and let my hair grow out in the winter/early spring. If I wear the size L hat in the summer I look like a kid with cancer because the hat looks gigantic on me, but the size M hat gives me a headache because it's too tight when I have hair.

I got into collecting jerseys for a while, the official jerseys and the Mitchell & Ness throwbacks. Even with a guy I knew who got them for insanely cheap it was an expensive, expensive habit. As soon as I got married my wife put a kibosh on it.

Yea I've never noticed that about the Tigers and it's odd. I feel like it could be the basis for a Dan Brown mystery novel, like it's an illuminati secret code.

Don't the Tigers only wear the orange lettered hat to match with the orange and orange-outlined jerseys?

The issue isnt the color. It is that the D on the hat is a different D than the one on the white uniform.

I want to be friends with this stone cold man's man.

Everyone's ducking for cover and he's like, "Yeah, here's your bat. You can have it back."

Yea I think it's cool and I'll watch it when it's on. I haven't been following who is/isn't playing and I don't know when it starts. I should get up on that.

Games between the heavy hitters like US, DR, PR and Japan are cool to watch.

Apparently Israel beat Korea. That's pretty neat. Only thing I'll pay attention to is when an MLBer gets a serious injury.

Yea looks like Israel beat Korea in the opener. Upset city. I can't think of an Israeli big leaguer off the top of my head.

My interest in a random WBC game is far greater than my interest in a random MLB game. Which is to say, I have absolutely zero interest in ever watching an out-of-market regular season MLB game but when you make it a national competition where each game matters, that's actually interesting. It's a shame the 162 game season is so ludicrously long that it makes the WBC hard to fit in anywhere on the calendar without impacting an MLB player's (especially pitcher's) season. I'd love it if every 3 years, MLB took the month of July off so we could do the WBC that month. But of course, money and business make that impossible.

Agreed. For purely selfish reasons I hate that there are Mets playing on WBC teams.

I don't think there are any. Looks like most of the MLBers on the Israeli roster are Jewish players who qualify to play for Israel.

Noah Syndergaard perfectly summing up how I wished the whole team felt about the WBC:

"I'm a Met. Ain't nobody made it to the Hall of Fame of win a World Series playing in the WBC."

Yea but injury risk aside, don't you think the 25 WBC games or however many they play are far more interesting than 25 regular season baseball games in terms of entertainment value? And don't you think an international competition is good for the sport in the same way the World Cup is good for soccer and Olympic basketball is good for basketball?

I want the WBC to succeed because in a perfect world, it actually could be as fun to watch as the World Series.

Sure, the international competition is good for the sport. I still don't find it overly interesting though. And I don't want to see them take the month of July off either. The potential for it to impact the playoff race is just too great. It would suck to see the Mets play 25 games less and miss the playoffs by like 2 games. And let's be honest, if that's going to happen to any team it'll happen to the Mets.

I always thought it would be better severed at the end of the season. If you add two weeks at the end and it is primarily players who missed the playoffs they are only adding the innings played similar to a playoff team.

They also have the ability to have pitchers work more than 45 pitchers which is a joke right now. I get why they do it but its detrimental to the enjoyment of the game.

I'm going to make an effort to watch the semi-finals and finals. Nolan Arenado wrote a great article for The Players Tribune about why the WBC is important to him.

Can't wait for Opening Day. Opening Day, Final Four, and WrestleMania all on the same weekend? Couldn't be happier.

Syndergaard has moved to a 2 seam fastball because he likes the late movement and can still throw it 98 mph. He's added a change up that clocks in somewhere around 11 mph slower than his fastball and they look similar coming out of his hand. Hopefully he stays healthy and can lead the Mets this season.

    Happy Opening Day!

I had a streak of like 7 years straight going to the Mets' Opening Day at Shea Stadium. Always had a blast. I was there in 2007 after they lost to the Cards in the NLDS on that Wainwright curve Beltran still hasn't swung at. Endy Chavez made that amazing catch in left to rob a home run. When he was intro'd at Opening Day the place erupted. Easily the loudest crowd I've ever been a part of, screaming "THANK YOU ENDY" at the top of my lungs until I was hoarse.

    I miss going to those.

When he was intro'd at Opening Day the place erupted. Easily the loudest crowd I've ever been a part of, screaming "THANK YOU ENDY" at the top of my lungs until I was hoarse.

    I miss going to those.
    Why did you stop?

My favorite was Seaver returning in 1983. Beautiful day in the 80's; everything went perfect except scoring Seaver a run lol.. still 'we' won..1985 with Carter debuting was around 32 with high winds - omg was it cold!

Now about that Endy catch, sad to say in the end, it was a lot of 'to-do' about nothing - sadly. Legendary moments need wins to be truly legendary.

Like the ball going through Buckner's legs in game six in 1986

Now trust me THAT night was madness at the old Shea

Anyhow, looking forward to another journey through the long schedule of MLB. Been doing this every year since 1969

Now THAT was a great year.

Let me tell you about my first game, the day before Seaver's 'Imperfect Game' . They were playing the first place Cubs, losing in the bottom of the ninth... Ed Kranepool at bat...

My last one was in 2008. The main reason was because I had a falling out with the group of friends I went with each year. When they moved to CitiField the prices were out of my league in 2009. Now, with work being crazy and a few other things I just don't have the time to get down there as much as I'd like. I get to like one game a year and it's usually with some combination of my cousins/wife's cousins. I actually work down the road from you in CT.

I don't disagree with your second point, but I wouldn't call that moment legendary. It was still a great catch though and we were just appreciating that. Great plays don't need W's to be great.

Took a half day and went to the Twins/Royals game. The KC bullpen is done. 23 walks in 3 games. Glad the twins didn't start 0-9 again.

It's like playing his natural position has given him more focus at the plate. Putting him in right field FOR TREVOR PLOUFFE was a bad idea.

I enjoyed Chris Sale's Boston debut last night. 7 scoreless and the Fenway crowd was juiced up for him. Sandy Leon with the walk-off homer in the 12th was a good way to start 2-0. Watch out for Benintendi for Rookie of the Year.

The obvious answer there if someone needed to go to the out field was Mauer.

Happy to see the Cubs take the series against the Cardinals. Bit pissed I haven't got to watch a game yet though but I am going to go out of my way to make sure to catch the first series at Wrigley.

Quick question for Red bird fans - How did Folwer get treated by the fans in his first at bat?

I'm pretty sure he was treated well.

Cardinals Bullpen already giving them trouble. Could be rough if that continues from last season

Yeah, I dug up his first at bat for the year and they did right by him which makes me happy.

he also scored the first run for the Cards.

Great pick up and I hope he does tremendous thing for you guys because he is a quality human being all around.

Seems like a pretty great dude. Shame that his first big moments after being signed were marred by asshole fans with him being blindsided on the plane and then being told to just play baseball after expressing an opinion

Tim Tebow hit a 2 run home run last night in his minor league debut. He also struck out 3 times.

His Low-A minor league debut...not like he was facing a AAA pitcher who is waiting for his call up to the bigs.

But still, hitting a homer is impressive so good for Tebow. I'm happy for him. Dude is driven, that's for sure.

Yeah, I've understood that "shut up and do only what the team pays you for" mentality in any sport. So many fans denigrate these players for not doing enough and being selfish athletes concerned only with themselves, but then also complain when somebody expresses an opinion they don't agree with.

It would be great to see him achieve some level of success in one of the sports he loves. And he does seem like one of the most genuine and nice guys in the game right now.

It would definitely be cool, mainly because I peg the odds of him making it that far at 1 in a million.

Let's see if he can keep it up.

Pretty ironic when he was pulled before the 3rd last week, when he gave up 4 runs.

I love what Bryan Pryce is doing with the Red's bullpen. It's really not a bad idea to pull your young pitchers after 4 or 5 innings, bring in some former big league starter turned reliever to cover 3 innings, then wrap it up with a save. Pryce's creativity, mixed in with some aggressive hitting from Votto, and solid hitting from the rest of the team, especially Duvall, place the Red's in 1st. Question is; can they hold? They really, really need Billy Hamilton to get on base more.

At least he's not striking out all the time like Byron Buxton.

True, but unless the guy is on base, he is not producing. If he upped his batting average from his season normal of .250 to around .310/.320, he would have 100 stolen bases a year and probably 20 more runs. The guy is a base running HOF in the making. He is on track this year, but his patience at the plate needs to increase when he starts facing pitchers from teams like Chicago, Cleveland and so on.

Not everyone is a .300 hitter. That was skewed when we had an offensive explosion in the 90s but remember, the average of MLB last year was a collective .255

True. Maybe I should replace average with on base percentage of .320 --- ish --- and it would hold more merit. I mean, scoring runs and stealing bases is all about getting on first. It doesn't matter if that's a hit or a walk, just get on.

Starling Marte (Pirates all star outfielder) gets an 80 game suspension for PED use. Props to MLB for cleaning up the game in general. Obviously it would suck to have one of your team's star players dinged for this but with 1st offense at 80 games and 2nd offense at a full season, plus being ineligible for the playoffs if you're suspended that season, I think they've cleaned it up more than I ever imagined they would. Sure the doping science will always be a little ahead of the testing science but still.

Now if we could just get players who get caught to stop saying it was because they accidentally took a banned substance in a vitamin drink or whatever sorry excuse they always give. I know they have to say that, and I probably would say it too, but for once I'd like someone to say "yea I knowingly used PEDs, sorry."

I'm hoping the Twins have a good season this year! I jumped back on the bandwagon a couple years ago after not paying as much attention baseball for quite a while(aside from the playoffs).. I think the last time I was this heavily invested in baseball to start the season is when Kirby Puckett still played!

Chris Sale possibly puts on the best pitched game of the season, only for Kimbrel, a normally reliable closer, to come in and piss it all away. Then, to make things even better, takes the W for himself and lights up the K zone. Incredible turn of events in that game. WOW. Also, nice to see Betts come alive when they needed him the most. Too bad Adam Duvall couldn't do that for the Red's last night in the 8th.

Actually probably more than that. Magic put up $50 million for 2.3% of the Dodgers (who are more valuable). Guessing Jeter is around 3-5%

Oh well, after 49 seasons of it, I'm used to jobbing out to the NL East early on....

So for 49 years you've stopped watching baseball in April? What a fan.

Saying the Mets season is over is premature but I can see where he's coming from. They seem to always be injured and their trainers don't help. First it was Cespedes who was seen barely able to swing in batting practice but they played him anyway and he got hurt. Then Syndergaard was supposed to get an MRI but refused it, made his next start and left early with a partial lat tear. How do you let your player refuse an MRI? Been hearing Mets fans on twitter call for the job of their head trainer and I can't blame them.

What the Yankees did with putting in a reliever then moving him to 1st base for an inning then having him pitch another inning was kinda cool. It didn't work out well for them but still, quirky shit like that is fun.

I guess he didn't realize that they just won the NL East a few years ago and made the world series

I understand where he's coming from but the whole "sky is falling" Mets fan gets tiresome. I swear, the Mets could win the Series and I'd hear Mets fans say "well, they didn't sweep." Yawn. Do I hate seeing them get hurt? Of course. Am I bummed Syndergaard tore a lat and is on the DL for an undetermined amount of time? Of course. Do I think the season is ruined and I might as well start waiting for football to start? Nope. And yeah, the training staff shoulders some blame too. You don't let your stud pitcher refuse to get an MRI. If he wants to debate treatment, I understand that. But a simple diagnostic? No, no, no. You force him or he sits.

I saw what the Yankees did the other day. The last two issues of SI have had articles about hard throwing, hard hitting pitchers. One from Japan and one is a 17 year old kid from Cali. Teams are already lining up to post the fee for the Japanese player, with a lot of debate about whether or not to let him play OF on his days off or just DH, assuming he goes to an AL team. Same idea, in theory, but more complicated because he's a starting pitcher and most likely can't come back to pitching after pitching the first 6 innings of a game. The kid from Cali is assumed to be the #1 pick this year, or top 3 at least, making him the first RH pitcher taken from HS as the first overall pick. He also plays shortstop. Seems like a good kid and I hope he makes it to the bigs one day.

Not exactly baseball but one of my fastpitch softball players is up for player of the week in the state. She had a 2 HR 6 RBI game against our rival. In the process she set the all time HR record for the school.

If you would take a moment and vote for McKenzie Wilkins that would be great. You can vote evey day until it closes and on multiple devices

Up to 34%. Double bonus to take votes away from St. Michael/Albertville. Nothing against whoever their player is.

Aaron Judge is a super hero. He's also very chill in interviews, deflecting questions so he can talk about the team instead of himself.

    What a man.

Kind of off-topic, but Brockmire just might be my new favorite show
