stupid NL rules. clayton kershaw was used as a pinch hitter. eovaldi is coming out for his 3rd at bat in extras where he just looks at pitches and walks back the dugout

i hate ian kinsler. we lose this series and he's the new bill buckner

but we just need to win 1 of the next 2. bring it back to fenway up 3-2 and I'm still confident. I'm just not confident in tonight's game, at all.

What a game. Eovaldi was incredible. Cora managed like a 20 year veteran. The Dodgers pedigree is evident throughout baseball. What an organization the Dodgers are!!!!

Muncy capping one of the most compelling world series games of the modern era with a monster home run. It almost seems scripted. What an amazing story and it's all thanks to the Dodgers.

The undeniable fact is that every single player in the World Series is only there because of the planning and developmental systems of the mighty dodgers. Same as last year with the exception of a few stupid astros players who are stupid anyway.

The dodgers are the greatest team and greatest baseball organization that ever existed. They are way better than the stupid Yankees, Astros, and especially better than the stupid ugly shitty Red Sox. Tonight's win was easy and everyone can easily see that.

No one got out managed last night. I'm a little surprised by the scrutiny today on Alex Cora. From my perspective the guy has been outstanding through the entire series.

How any manager could be accused of being outmanaged in a game that went 18 innings is beyond me. The biggest moves he made. 1) Putting Kinsler in for JD as a pinch runner because JD has a gimped ankle. It was the right idea. JD wouldn't have had any better a shot at going for home. He also wasn't going to even be at third base to begin with off the single. So it wouldn't have been runners at the corners with one out. It would have been runners at first and second one out. 2) Putting Eovaldi in. Dude pitched an absolute gem. What would people have had Cora do. The biggest issue was the top of the order going 0 for the entire 18 innings. He can't do anything about that.

    what a comeback

price is leapfrogging sale to pitch game 5.... interesting. I'm fine with it I mean Cora has earned all trust at this point. Sale isn't pitching great right now and could use the extra rest.

FUN FACT: Coming into last night, the Dodgers were 54-0 in 2018 when leading by at least 4 runs, the only team to not blow a 4 run lead this year.

@GOLDBERG'S BEST FRIEND how was the game? predictions for Kershaw vs Price tonight?

Price has been great and this feels like the storyline is set up for him to be complete his ascent into postseason stud and close it out tonight by outperforming the choke artist Kershaw. But I'll be honest... he's on 3 days "rest" since his last start but he pitched in relief on his second day of rest, and warmed up in the bullpen last night. I could see this regiment taking its toll on him and the Dodgers sending this back to Fenway.

That said, I will stick with my heart. Sox will close it out tonight 5-3.

The Puig moment was one of my all time favorite baseball memories. 3 hours later nobody will ever remember it again. The atmosphere was LA chill until about the 5th inning and from then on the stadium was berserk.

Another smart move saving Sale to help close it down at home in case Price doesn't handle it on short rest.

Kershaw has a long history of screwing up these moments.
I think the Sox may take it home today.

what a season. what a team. one of the best ever.

David Price was outstanding. Somewhat of a debate if he should have won MVP but he and Pearce were both deserving. I would have liked Price to get it just for the storyline but Steve Pearce, what a fucking guy. 35 year old journeyman, now a World Series MVP and Boston legend. So many clutch hits.

Sale for the 9th was a nice way to close it.

it almost seemed too easy during this playoff run but credit to the Dodgers, that 18 inning game while excruciating in the moment was a true classic and made the series exciting. I was worried there in game 4 when the Dodgers were cruising to a series-tying W but these guys never gave up, never let off the gas.

4 titles in 15 years. How bout that.

Great season for the Red Sox. They are going to be fun to watch. Mookie Betts is something else. Looking forward to watching him going forward.

There's a story from Harper's agent that says they have a deal in place. Not sure how accurate the story says. It makes no reference to what team or any contract details.

Congrats to Jacob deGrom on winning the Cy Young this year, helping to further the idea that the Win is not as important a measure of success as people want to believe it is. He received 29 of 30 1st place votes. Should have been unanimous.

The guy announcing it said deGrom "received more support from the writers than from his own teammates." I can't even be mad. Dude was spot on with that.

I think it's an anomaly though. He clearly had the best season of any pitcher. I think his ERA was almost one run better than everyone else and the other two in contention didn't make the playoffs so he had those going for him.

If I were the Yankees I would trade Miguel Andujar, Justus Sheffield and another top 10 prospect for Jacob DeGrom, and follow that up with making Manny Machado a top priority. The Yankees need an arm like DeGrom if their going to beat the Astros or Red Sox.

You know, being an old fart, I don't buy this win isn't that important yada yada yada .

We just saw an historically unusual season but it's a pitcher's job to win games, bottom line, just as it is a team's job to win games.

wins = success (no other way I know of to make the playoffs lol)

low era does not necessarily = success.

Some pitchers have a knack at losing games 3-2, 2-1 etc. Sid Fernandez was one for the Mets that always seemed to find a way to do that. Snakebit is the term. Or 'lack the bulldog'. Dave Stein of the Blue Jays was another well known for this: excellent pitcher; one mistake and..doom lol.

    Not Jake

It’s extremely difficult to win a game when you’re allowing 1 run through 7 innings, but your offense posts a goose egg. Wins are the most irrelevant statistic in baseball for pitchers.

Quality Starts is the stat that should be given more consideration than Wins.

Quality Starts is also a kinda dumb stat that makes more sense to use in fantasy baseball than wins but isn't overly useful. You can just judge performance through every other statistic we have, you don't need one with an arbitrary cut off to do that.

Not a fan of the Mets trading for Cano but I'm psyched they got Diaz, who is under team control for the next 4 years. Can't wait to see what a 40 year old Robinson Cano does at the end of his contract. But at least the GM is trying to do something, that's a step in the right direction.

Was the deal still Seattle sending $60 mil to the Mets also? That's the number I heard last week before the trade was confirmed. Watching MLBN earlier the analysts floating the idea of trading away Thor. Crazy talk even though DeGrom is the #1. I remember when DG-Thor-Harv-Wheeler were talked about as an incredible 1 through 4 and 2 of those guys didn't really live up to expectations.

They got $20 million from Seattle. I think I saw a stat that said by cutting the contracts of Bruce and the two relievers, the Mets end up really only paying Cano $13 million a year for the next 5 years, so that's not terrible if he can perform for the next couple seasons and doesn't get popped for PEDs again.

Harvey was never the same after TJ surgery and the whole "I have an innings limit and I'm not breaking it" fiasco with his agent and the Mets. Add to that the fact that I don't think he knew how to deal with his struggles plus his love of the party scene and it was a recipe for disaster.

I don't think they trade Thor unless they get an offer that blows them away. Not this season at least. Maybe after next season if their 2019 campaign is a disappointment.

Source: Arizona Paul Goldschmidt has been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Andy Young and a draft pick are headed back.

Major trade!!! Goldschmidt is a beast but he's only signed for 1 year and then he'll probably be getting a gigantic deal at age 32 which will make him super overpaid in his late 30s.

That's a pretty nice haul in return for a stud in Goldschmidt, especially since he's a rent-a-player

Huge win for St. Louis. They can work with a 4-5 man outfield rotation with Fowler, O'Neil, Ozuna, Martinez and Bader. The infield is now set, they have a big name who can bat in the 3rd spot, while also sporting a strong rotation anchored by Martinez and Flaherty. I love this roster. They needed to make a big move in order to keep pace with the Brewers and Cubs.

Lee Smith and Harold Baines get in the Hall of Fame, but Lou Piniella does not?

Lee Smith was special. But I never thought of Harold Baines as a HOF'er

Baines was good, but not HOF caliber. He was on the ballot as recently as 2011 and got 4.8% of the vote. Yet seven years later 16 people vote and decide he is HOF worthy.

If they had a Hall of Very Good, Baines would be well deserving. HOF? Nah.

He led in one statistical category his entire career, slugging percentage in 1984. He played another seventeen years after that and never led the league in anything again.

Apparently the Mets are working on as many as 10 different trade scenarios, including a potential blockbuster including sending Thor to the Yankees and receiving Realmuto from Miami. Rumor has it the Yankees would send the minor league talent to Miami. Personally I'd rather have Syndergaard under control for three more years instead of Realmuto for only two.

If this happens, it's World Series win or bust for the Mets and they're basically on a deadline of two seasons to get it done. Trading away a stud pitcher like Thor is a recipe for disaster for Van Wagenen, who will be vilified if Syndergaard ends up winning a World Series in pinstripes. I think it's much more likely this ends up awful for the Mets because it's the Mets.

I think the Phillies are beginning to fade in the race for Bryce Harper so they went out and landed McCutchen as a safety blanket. It seems more-and-more likely the Dodgers will trade away one or two outfielders and make room for Bryce in LA. Machado is still a viable option for the Phillies and could play 3B, but not sure what they would do with Franco. Machado could also land in New York with the Yankees and man SS if Andujar stays, or 3B if he leaves. The White Sox are obvious contenders for payroll reasons to sign Harper or Machado, but I don't think an organization still a while away from winning could attract them on money alone.

When it's all said and done, I think the following happens:

    Machado to Yankees
    Andujar to Marlins
    Syndergaard to Yankees
    Harper to LA
    Realmuto to Mets
    Ottavino to Boston
    Kimbrel to Atlanta
    Keuchel to Philly

I would love to see the Reds win the Bauer or Kluber stakes from Cleveland, but it seems unlikely considering they don't have the pieces in the outfield (true weakness of Cleveland) to offer like a LA would have in Puig or Bellinger.

Dodgers will get Kluber. The McCutcheon deals reads to me that they are more likely to get Machado than Harper.

Harper to LA seems a bit perplexing, since they are trying to get rid of their glut of outfielders and save some money. Red Sox are also trying to shed payroll.

the Mets are never trading Syndergaard to the Yankees lol.
I know, we heard it on the boob tube so it MUST be true

in any case, Syndergaard is worth way more than this catcher. It's rather absurd, all this *alledged* talk of giving up two of the three following players: Nimmo, Rosario and Conforto; it is way overpaying too.

Supposedly the Yanks have upped their offer to include sending Andujar to the Mets. Intriguing, but still not enough to get Syndergaard I don't think.

These rumors are exactly what the Wilpons want: to generate interest to get the team on the back page of the Post instead of seeing the Yankees on there. Great way to run a baseball team.

Andujar and Realmuto for Syndergaard is a solid offer. The Mets have deep pitching, but the lack position players. If their goal is to make an immediate run at the crown, it makes sense. The Yankees would be the team sending the higher quality prospect to the Marlins, so they win in that regards as well.

Braves making moves. Mets making moves. Washington can't possibly be as mediocre as they were last year.

NL east is going to be very interesting in 2019.

In general, the NL should be exciting this year. The Dodgers, Brewers, and for the most part the Cubs, all remain elite and retain talent that put them in the playoffs. The Cubs should be better this year with a health Bryant. The Braves and Cardinals, both 85+ win teams, have only gotten better. The Mets and Phillies are making moves that help to put them in contention. The Nationals have a top-3 rotation, and a solid core of players. If Soto comes on even more this year, they should be in the mix. The Rockies are still hanging around, and should be a contender in the NL West as long as Arenado, Dahl and Story stay healthy, and Blackmon doesn't regress. Plus, the division is weak past the Dodgers and Rockies. The NL will be very interesting.

Puig, Kemp, P Alex Wood, and C Kyle Farmer to the Reds for Homer Bailey and prospects. Dodgers are expected to release Bailey. Looks like they’re making a push for Harper.

The Reds made an awesome move riding themselves of the heavy-baggage that was Homer Bailey. In return, they bring 3 all-star capable players with a winning attitude to an otherwise losing organization. Joey Votto is one of their top 5 players of all-time in the organization, and they realize they must win now, with him.

I never thought we'd see a unanimous. Mo definitely deserves it like a bunch of others who didn't end up getting it. I just thought we'd always end up with one or two writers who would refuse because they didn't want someone to be unanimous if "favourite player of the past" didn't.

I didn't think it'd happen either because some writer would be like, "He's guaranteed to get in so I'm gonna use that vote to keep someone on the ballot."

I'm so glad Edgar Martinez got in.

    Halladay was insane.

    Mussina was a moose.

Great class. Mariano deserves 100% but who cares about that anyway.

Clemens and Bonds both went up about 2% to 59%. 3 years of eligibility remaining. I think they'll both get in but it looks like it will come down to their last year.

I would do to Barry and Clemens (and I guess Sosa, Manny, A-Rod) what I would do to Pete: Tell them they will be Hall of Famers but we won't put you in until after you die. It will be a posthumous entry. They don't deserve the "honor" of calling themselves Hall of Famers but their careers have to be included there.

Why don’t they deserve the honor?

I agree with the spirit of what you're saying. Bonds should be in, and I'm fine with him having the honor of being called a hall of famer in his lifetime, but should he really be giving a speech about his career when it's so well documented that he used lots of steroids to achieve his accomplishments? Probably not. I wouldn't want to wait until his death 30 years from now, though. Idk that's a tough one. They should have a dishonorable induction where you get in but you don't get a speech or a ceremony.

I would put Shoeless Joe in before Pete Rose, and well before Clemens and Bonds.

I am glad that Clemens and Bonds have to keep waiting.

I am happy about Mussina, but kind of surprised because I always thought of him as belonging in the Hall of Very Very Good.

Clemens and Bonds and Mac belong nowhere near Cooperstown. They are genuine disgraces.

Mussina was just another NY cheater steroid bitch. Fuck him, Mariano and both their mothers(known whores).

Charlie Hustle is one of the absolute GOATS. He should be a first ballot/unanimous vote. Shoeless fucking Joe doesnt go in before Rose.

I like the "dishonorable induction" idea. I could also see making them wait until they turn 65 instead of 5 years after retirement. Just something to "shame" them in some way for their actions.

But you can't have a Baseball Museum without an entire decade of the best players either.

Cheating to make yourself better makes you a disgrace but gambling on the sport is no big deal?

After Harold Baines got in it feels like just about anybody can make it into the Hall of Fame.

That's what they used to say about Phil Rizzuto.

Gambling doesnt affect the results. Anyone who thinks Pete rose ever "threw" a single baseball game or even cheated a single play never watched him play baseball.

Most professional sports organizations are moving in the direction of ignoring gambling issues. Most leagues are signing big money deals with gambling entities..

Leagues will legalize steroids before they legalize athletes gambling on their games.

I wasn’t aware that they failed drug tests and got caught doing it. Supposedly don’t mean shit. You can’t keep them out because you feel they cheated.
