So no 80's drugs etc, or what?

I'm all about bat-flipping, as a Jays fan how could I not be. But when Contreras bat flipped for the walk I started cheering for the Rockies. When he did it again I bought a Rocktober shirt.

It's not about respecting the game. It's just that, it was a walk. Only a walk. Not even bringing a run in walk. Just seemed like fake hype.

Blue Jays fans also seem to be fans of throwing beer cans onto the field.

A little bit. He referenced some things that happened with the Mets but it was more about his time with the Cardinals. He did talk about how much weed he smoked in the 70s and hooking up with various ladies over the years.

If you want to read a book about all the crazy shit that happened during the '86 season, look up The Year the Bad Guys Won. Awesome read.

Red Sox/Yankees is going to be great for ratings.

    Predictions:

Red Sox/Yankees- Red Sox in 5
    Indians/Astros- Astros in 4

    Dodgers/Braves- Dodgers in 4
    Brewers/Rockies- Brewers in 4

Red Sox/Astros- Red Sox in 6
    Brewers/Dodgers- Dodgers in 5

Red Sox/Dodgers- Red Sox in 5

As a baseball fan, I'm not a fan of sweeps in the playoffs.

I'm very excited. To finally get this matchup and have it be when both teams are 100 game winners... it's what baseball needs.

They're saying Sale is healthy and ready to roll even though they've been babying him back from his injury. I hope so. I trust Cora.

    Sox in 4.

Yeah, read it, it's a bit juvinille to say the least.

I was was referring to Keith's involvement in the Pittsburgh cocaine trial in 83-84, after he got to the Mets involving time spent with the Cardinals. Dave Parker, John Milner and a number of others were involved as well. Seems all the traffic went through the clubhouse in Pittsburgh and a clubhouse boy got nabbed selling to all the players, both on the home team and visitors, cedar 81-83.

Peter Uebroth came down hard on the players, suspending them for a year, by let it slide with community service - hundreds of hours I seem t recall - and then Keith returned back to New York only to have old Daily News columnist Dck Yund (he who had helped M. Dnald Grant run Tom Seaver out of town in '77) write a column instructing fans to boo Keith upon his return to Shea

Peak baseball. And yes Manny overreacted but hey, tempers were high. Don Zimmer charging Pedro was so insane. I wish there was face-forward footage of him charging. Maybe there is and I haven't seen it but I want to see the rage in his 72 year old face in that moment.

In a shock to absolutely no one, Mets owner Jeff Wilpon has decided he doesn't want an analytics-driven GM. So basically the Mets will just rinse and repeat in their GM search. What could possibly go wrong?

Brock Holt hit for the cycle, the first time in history a player has done so in the postseason.

    How bout that.

Still need to finish the job. It was nice handing the yanks their biggest playoff loss ever but gotta do it again tonight.

    I'm ignoring last night happened.

Tonight should be interesting regardless with Angel Hernandez behind the plate. Four overturned calls this series. He gets these games because...?

I can see this game being high scoring. I am thinking in the 8-6 range. Not sure who takes it though. Yankees just have the much better bullpen.

The kicker is that he's suing MLB and claiming they discriminated against him because he's Hispanic and won't make him a crew chief. Maybe, just maybe, he's a shit umpire and doesn't deserve his own crew.

Kimbrell was not on his game but he had just enough of a lead to escape. That turned out to be a lot of more interesting than it should have been.

I was very shook at the end, I was nearly certain the Yanks would at least tie it after the HBP.

The Sox bullpen is a real struggle. To win this series we'll need our starters to go 6 innings or more. My brain is telling me the Astros will win but my heart says that this season is too special to end now. Sale will be dominant, Price can be dominant even though he sucks most of the time in the playoffs, and our offense is good enough to score against good pitching.

    Sox in 7.

David Price is at another level of being bad in the postseason. You would think that he has to turn it around at some point.

In the history of MLB, is there anybody that you can point to as being worse in the playoffs as a starting pitcher than David Price? Jarret Wright was usually pretty bad, but he got a few wins as a starter at least.

He's the worst and it's not even close.

Especially if you compare regular season to playoff performance. You'd swear he plays for the Raptors or something.

The dodgers taxed that bullpen. The plan worked perfectly and now we're gonna put them to sleep with 4 in a row. I'll be at game 4 on Sunday. Look for me on TV. They may need me to come in and pitch.

I don't think he has to close. They used him with a 4 run lead last night. If it were a 2 run game Hader would have pitched the 9th as well.

Made a small wager on the Brewers today to win the NLCS. They were only -160. I will take those odds with a 1 game lead and facing Rich Hill tonight.

Rich Hill is solid in the postseason. I like the Brewers chances of going up 3-1 primarily because of the Dodgers current offensive mediocrity and struggles on defense.

Oquendo is not coming back to the Cardinals. I am heartbroken.

edit: he is not leaving. he will be in a player development role now. still weird that he won't be one of the coaches though.

This ALCS has been a good series so far.

Our bullpen getting 2 more innings of scoreless work here is a risky proposition.

One of the longest games I've ever been to. Well worth the payoff. Dodgers need to come back with another win tomorrow if we want a shot at this thing. The brewers are not fucking around.

How do people feel about Machado's kicking of Aguilar at first? He acknowledged that he did it, saying "if that's dirty, that's dirty."

If I were a team, this would be a bit of a red flag, especially since he is in line to get one of the greater free agent contracts this offseason. I'm glad the Dodgers won, it's fun seeing both championship series being competitive.

It was dirty but I don't think it would be a red flag for me if I were thinking of signing him. He is really good, being a prick isn't that much of an issue.

Being at a 5 hour 15 minute game sounds like a nightmare. Especially the way they shut down beer and concessions early.

I would have more of the issue with the "I am not Johnny Hustle" line. He has put it out there he is not max effort, putting the manager in a tough place down the line if he isn't producing the results and he's not Johnny Hustle. Machado can point back and say you knew who I was.

Never liked Machado, thought he was totally over rated to be put in that exclusive club of multi-billionaire ballplayers - if somebody else wants to pay that money to put him on their team, fine, not on mine thank you very little.

This series is only the icing on a long formed cake imo.

The horrible, horrible call on interference ruined the game. The ball, the glove, the fans were all in the stands and over the fence.

Betts would've caught the ball without interference, or would've hit his glove. Correct call.

Ball, the fans and Betts glove were in the stands. By rule, it doesn't matter if Betts would have caught it.

Have you never seen somebody rob a home run before? If they catch the ball it's an out, even if it is over the fence...

But you can't have "fan interference" on a ball in the stands. It is the rule.

yea I think _me is right here, I'm very happy with the call and I think it's implicitly "fair" since I believe he would have caught the ball. however based on the rule, I can't say that it was a correct call. the fan did not interfere based on the rule.

He wouldn't have caught that ball. He closed his glove before it had a chance to go in the mitt. Fans never seemingly touch the ball but did touch the glove.

Jose has been a fan class act through this though. Take note moises alou.

The only way Houston wins at this point is if Verlander can pitch Game 5 and Game 7. The Astros pitching has been disastrous, and outside of Verlander and Cole, no one on the roster can slow down Boston's offense.

Pretty clear that the Dodgers are the best team left. The Red Sox series win was cute but it's quite clear that the Dodgers pitching will simply shut down this Red Sox team quite easily.

The Sox don't have good enough pitching. They got some great performances in the ALCS from guys who just got lucky. The Dodgers will smash that bullpen a new asshole in game 1 and the rest of the series will be a cake walk. Arm Hang Boy may not have a job next season.

    Dodgers in 4.

    @JMastrodonato:
Chris Sale says he’s feeling better. Asked what caused the stomach illness, he said, “I had irritation from a belly button ring. Constantly taking it in and out caused irritation. Doctors and nurses at MGH were awesome. Things happen. You handle them. And keep moving forward.”

uhhhhh okay this is a very weird reason to miss an ALCS start. if we didnt win this would be not be a good look. but we did so now it's just a funny story.

Might be a nice guy, but he was the worst Detroit sports hire as a coach in the last fifteen years, and that includes all the Lions coaches as well.

He wouldn't have the power in the organisation to be a "franchise ruiner". He wasn't the GM.

Not to mention it was ridiculously obvious at the time when the Tigers were trading away the farm and signing vets to huge contracts to go on a WS run that it was all going to go down south eventually and end up in a rebuilding phase.. regardless of who the manager is/was.

His inexperience doomed Detroit at a time when veteran coaching would have been more helpful and possibly given us at least one Series title before the thing collapsed. We hired Gardenhire four years too late. Ausmus never showed any ability to successively manage a team enough to warrant a second chance with another.

You are right that it was an eventual house of cards, but they were World Series contenders when he inherited the team. They wasted precious time while he was trying to figure out how to be a manager. He never truly figured it out, but it was too late by the time they finally let him go. Avila was a fucking moron for keeping him, not to mention addressing the horrid pitching roster either, but you won't find too many people in Michigan defending Ausmus either.

Luckiest you'll get with him is he'll be a seat warmer until someone else replaces him. He won't take you anywhere.

I expect a repeat of last year: you'll talk a ton of shit during the series and the instant your team loses we won't see you again in the thread til next year. Typical frontrunning LA fan.

    LOL.

No one goes in the baseball thread much in the off-season, fuckboy. You and your gang of drug cheats can hang their arms all day trying to look scary but your garbage fastball guys are going to get SHELLED by the team that hits more home runs than boston could ever dream of. We have too many weapons and you have too many curses. Red Sox are cunts.

but you didn't even show your face or comment in here when the series ended. you turned the page and went back to your palm trees and spritzer cocktails and bragging to your friends about which C list celebrity came into your shop today. the forum equivalent of leaving the game early when your team's losing.

drug cheats...curses... man what decade do you think this is? we're 12-2 in the world series in the last 14 years if you haven't been following along. the last time you won a world series I was 2 years old (and you were what, 22?).

the red sox are cunts? gtfo. the sox this year are nothing but charming and likable. Machado, Puig.... those are your cunts. those are the guys everyone in baseball hates.

both our teams are big spenders so neither of us are the scrappy underdogs here. the difference is we win titles.

I will let my beloved Dodgers do the talking for me.

Also I rarely ever post in here. I doubt I was posting much in here at all during the playoffs last year.

    You've seen Fro post, right?

    The Red Sox ARE cunts.

it's been a good game 1. nunez's homer in the 7th made it look more lopsided but this was back-and-forth til then. heard some second guessing of Roberts for taking out Baez before the Nunez at bat, seems like it'll be something he's gonna get hammered for tonight.

still need to close it out. 3 more outs then hand the ball off to our ACE david price tomorrow.

At this point there's a little too much confidence for my liking. Not from the team but from the fans and media. Everyone is saying sweep, everyone is saying the Dodgers don't belong on the same field as the Red Sox and this will be one of the least dramatic World Series ever. I say game 3 is a must win for Boston - can't let them have a sliver of hope. 2 wins don't get you squat. Crush their spirits tonight and then I'll relax a little.

Get out of here with that "must win" crap.

Is over confidence a thing? Sure. But the only time its must win is when its an elimination game for you.

Can the winner of this game just get 2 wins? BOS wins, call the series. LAD wins, call it 2-2.
