Wild finish after that bullpen battle. Seem to be getting their footing under them now.

Fucking Osuna. Was my favourite of the young Jays. But if the allegations are true that’s just unforgivable.

And right before his shirt giveaway day. Have they said what he did other than "assaulting" a woman? Was it a fight, was it a sexual assault, etc?

They said it was a domestic violence charge, so while it could be sexual, it was most likely a fight.

I don’t hate it. And it works out that Mesoraco can just switch dugouts before tonight’s game.

I do wonder what Harvey is going to do for nightlife in Cincy. Can’t imagine he can seek out paparazzi like he could in NY.

There’s a place across the river that makes great grilled cheese. Actually, one of the better sports experiences I’ve ever had was at a bar near Great American Ballpark when Frazier won the HR Derby a few years back.

To complete the awesome 24 hours Toronto sports have had, Toronto gets no-hit by Paxton.

On the plus side he's a Canadian so at least we have that going for us.

Mookie Betts is the best player in the league not named after a fish.

Also they have the ump mic'd up live in this Sox/Yanks game and it's great.

And on the same day Dylan Bundy gave up 7 earned runs while failing to record a single out

Betts versus Trout for the AL MVP will be fun.

Our run support has been utterly embarrassing. As bad a waste of excellent pitching as I've ever seen on one team to start a season.

Verlander - 4-2, 1.21 era - with 2 nd's giving up 1 er in 8 ins and 0 er in 8 ins, and 2 l's giving up 1 er each in 6 ins each. Could well be 8-0.

    Cole - 4-1, 1.43 era - with 2 nd's giving up 0 and 2 ers in 7 ins each, and a l giving up 2 er in 7 in. Could well be 7-0.

    Morton - 4-0, 2.16 era

With any decent offense our 1-2-3 starters could conceivably be 19-0 with a combined 1.54 era. Fucking hell.

And so one start later we've got the top three starting era's in the AL. Bats, your turn.

yea that's a big financial hit for him. I find the decision by a guy like him to keep using roids interesting. He's signed until he's 40 so he has no next contract to play for but he risks losing 12 million if he gets caught. Why not just play fair, if you suck you suck, cash your checks and not risk it? I guess it's the competitive nature that keeps you using. You want to keep hitting those dingers and not be washed up by 36

    Justin motherfuckin Verlander.

In 15 regular season starts since coming to Houston he's 10-2 (with shite run support), a 1.05 era, and a .692 whip.

Also 4-1 with a 2.21 era and a .818 whip in postseason play.

    Wow.

Also saw that Teixeira basically threw him under the bus saying we knew who his "assistant" was (on biogenesis list), he ran with A Rod and Melky who both got caught. No surprise.

Man, if I was Jacob deGrom I'd be demanding a trade. 7 out of his last 9 starts have been no decisions, most of which came about because the bullpen spoils it for him.

Remember Johan's first year with the Stem's?

He finishes 16-7 but the bullpen blew 7 games on him. He finished third in the Cy Young voting, way before these media guys and MLB Network had shows putting everything under the microscope.

But I said Johan (Santana fir those who might not know) shoulda (coulda) won the CYA that year, but wins mattered so much more then and 15 wasn't going to do it when Lincecum went 18-5 and Brandon Webb22-7 I think..

Still, 21,22,23 -7 and leading the league in era woulda put him right there.

Anybow, great being a Mets fan, huh?

As Gary Cohen said, year after year, same thing...

As Keith Hernandez added "I'm at a loss for words and I'm paid to say things"

That's exactly what I said when Matz left the game, "I'm speechless. How many years can you take this crap. Nothing left to say."

Yeah, pretty much. All I do now is shrug my shoulders and shake my head. Nothing else to say or do. It is what it is. I just try to enjoy the wins when they come once or twice a week. Try to enjoy the deGrom starts until about the 6th or 7th inning when the bullpen screws it up. My buddy texted me the other day and said "dude, what did deGrom do to piss off the bullpen so badly?"

Thank god they have Cohen, Hernandez, and Darling or else the game would be even more of a chore to get through. Best booth in baseball and they do a decent job of making unwatchable games watchable.

Until the Wilpons are gone nothing is going to change. Nothing. On top of that, last year and so far this year have basically been spent just waiting for somebody to get hurt since it happens so often. Syndergaard is currently on the DL, deGrom was already there this season, Matz is probably heading there now, Frazier was hurt, Yo was hurt, both catchers went down.

But I still get a call once a week from the Mets' Ticket Department asking if I want to buy tickets. Nah, I'll just watch them lose from the privacy of my own home and save the $200 it would cost my wife and I to go to a game.

Exactly. The only time I'm seeing City Field is in two weeks when Dead and Company roll into town

As far as this team winning ever again with the current ownership, forget it. With a guy like Alderson as GM?

They will have to gut the current product inside out, completely clean house and start from scratch, build bottom up, getting players that can actually play and not just hit hone runs.

Whatever, it's all so pointless until the Wilpons go.

Gary, Keith and Ron, omg, yes, what a gift. Otherwise forget it. I can see things weighing on Gary a wee bit this year. I think, turning 60 and all probably fits in there somehow, but .I'm not the analyst..
It's funny, we always hear (and I remember for years myself) the trio of Lyndsey Nelson, Bob Murphy and Ralph Kiner ywere together for longer than any other broadcasting team in mlb history, 17 years, and what a legendary run that was...

Now Gary, Keith and Ron began when SNY started in 2006, so this marks their -gasp- 12th year together already.

If 17 actually is the record still (for three men I'm guessing?) then by the end of Keith's five year contract he just signed they should break that. In any case, they'll have a place right up there with those three Mets broadcasting legends. Seems hard to believe but it's true.

    Its dambed true.

@NWo4LifeOr2Years not sure if you saw this or not but it pretty much sums up the Mets' season (existence?) perfectly:

That would be part of the CitiField entry rotunda on fire.

    lol....How fitting.

Mickey Calloway started his Dailey briefing yesterday by saying he has never seen anything like this rash of injuries.

The entire Mets press core just burst out laughing because this happens every year here.

I imagine the backlash will be pretty fierce if he ever makes it to the major leagues. I sure as hell hope the Mets don't draft him. I don't care if he can pitch like Brendan Fraser in The Scout, keep him the hell away from Queens.

Mets are reportedly listening to offers for Syndergaard and/or deGrom. If I had to choose I'd rather see them trade Syndergaard even though he's a fun personality to have on the team. He's under team control for another 3 seasons so the price better be sky high for him. I'd like to see the Mets do what the Yankees did in 2016 with Chapman and Miller when the received a boatload of prospects in exchange. Familia and Lugo are reportedly on the block as well.

Good comeback again from Yankees last night and you have to give Domingo German credit. After the 1st inning he completely settled down. Is he going to be a starter for this team for years to come? I don't know. But considering he never really started, he's handled the role beautifully since asking to replace Montgomery.

I was there last night. Lovely time.

    Also this, because Mets:

It would have been a double anyway but because it's the Mets the bullpen door would be open and somehow the ball would wind up in there.

Cespedes set back to square one with his rehab as of today. Because Mets.

Can't wait for them to snap and trade Noah or deGrom to the Yankees for some schmuck who winds up stubbing his pinky toe going to the bathroom at night and wind up with a torn ACL for some reason. Because Mets.

Ohtani to undergo Tommy John Surgery. Not likely to return until 2020 season. Such a shame, he was one of the best stories this year. Really fun to watch early on.

Went from pitching every 7th day to every 5. Plus trying to hit on off days. Was only a matter of time.

The report from Pedro Gomez is he will "probably" need TJ but it's not official yet - the team has not said anything.

Damn shame. I didn't even really get a chance to see him play.

I was reading that they're hoping he can avoid TJ and return around the all star break, but only in a DH role and not pitch for the remainder of the season. Still, not an ideal scenario.

The dumpster fire that is the Mets in 2018 continues. Lose a 2 game series to the Braves by being no-hit for 7 innings and ultimately being shut out. In a game, of course, that deGrom started. 1.55 ERA and a 4-2 record to show for it. Shameful. On any other team he'd be, what, 12-2?

And now Syndergaard has been shutdown until his finger injury is healed. Not that it isn't the right thing to do, but yet another Mets injury. On the plus side, this might mean they don't trade him which causes the value of deGrom to go up, I'd think.

deGrom is having a Cy Young type season. I saw the below stat:

Including today's outing Jacob deGrom has an 0.87 ERA (6 ER in 62.1 IP) in his last 10 starts. The Mets are just 2-8 in those 10 games.

I'm glad my fantasy league has quality starts instead of wins!

Haha yeah that’s awesome for you!

That stat is the Mets season perfectly encapsulated. I’ll be shocked if deGrom is still a Met by August.

There have been 13,000 homestands of 7 games or more in the history of baseball.

The Mets team batting average was the lowest ever.

I watched most of the game today. Glad The Braves could pull it out considering the amazing game that DeGrom pitched. God his control is masterful. I mean he puts the ball exactly where he wants it almost every time. He's such an unreal talent.

But fuck, that Mets offense is the drizzling shits. Maybe when they get healthier they can look a bit more like they did that first 3 or 4 weeks of the season.

I'm just hoping the top of Atlanta's order can start putting it together again because without it Freeman is going to be hitting a lot of single RBI doubles and homers.

Their offense is what happens when a team built to hit the long ball stops hitting the long ball.

In the CWS the Gators executed a double steal with runners on 1st and 3rd in which the runner on first pretended to fall down halfway to second. The pitcher was distracted long enough to allow the lead runner to score.

Been watching much of the games last weekend? Some entertaining baseball. Believe each night Friday through Monday had some exciting endings. But that Florida-Auburn finish.... oof.

Twins option Miguel Sano to the minor leagues. He really needs to get it together. He was hurt last year, but he is on pace for over 300 strikeouts this year. Hopefully he can get it together.

In the CWS the Gators executed a double steal with runners on 1st and 3rd in which the runner on first pretended to fall down halfway to second. The pitcher was distracted long enough to allow the lead runner to score.
how do we know he fell down intentionally?

A couple other articles confirmed it was a designed trick play.

Amazing that that guy is still pitching. Looking at his career stats, I don't even remember the years with Boston, Yankes, or Oakland happening. He easily could have played for every team.

I love that you can hear the reliever yell "Shit!" as soon as Stanton makes contact

Didn't know this, but the Braves have their own Bonilla-esque contract they're still paying. Bruce Sutter signed a 6 year, $9 million contract in 1985 and agreed to defer the money. Long story short, he's been receiving annual payments of $1.12 million for the last 30+ years and will still get the original $9 million he signed for when 2022 gets here. The total cost of the contract? Over $45 million.

Oh man I can't wait to complain about this fact the next time someone tries to explain to me why Liberty Media won't sign any free agents.

I know we've been revolutionising baseball with pitching strategies but bringing in catcher Jesus Sucre to close in extra innings was a particularly entertaining one

    Here’s a list of all players in MLB history with 18+ 2Bs, 18+ HRs, 18+ SBs, 5+ 3Bs before the All-Star Break:

    -Willie Mays
    -Javier Báez
    (End of list)

Looks like the Brewers have hit a bit of a rough patch. Hopefully they can win the next 2 and go into the all star break somewhat strong.

Is Bryce Harper the most over rated player of all time?

Set aside what has happened this year which has obviously been a disaster. The guy has hit 30 HR once in 7 years, never drove in 100 runs, career OBP .384....

He is certainly one of the more overrated players of current time.

    All time

This season hasn't even been that bad. His average will rise with a little less bad luck. Power is there. He's walking a ton.
