Read a ton lately. Here are the highlights:

Me - Elton John: So, so boring. Just didn't enjoy it. Maybe it was the writing style, maybe it was the content but I didn't care for it.

God, If You're Not There, I'm Fucked - Darrell Hammond: tough read but very well written. I had no idea he was as messed up as he was/is. He pulled no punches when discussing his childhood abuse and the resulting addiction issues. Highly recommended if you're an SNL fan.

Backlash - Brad Thor: one of the best thrillers I've ever read, hands down. It's #19 in a series but could easily be picked up and read on its own. Would make a great movie, that's for sure.

I just bought a new book based on the Creepshow movies/series. It contains two original stories. It's short, around 200 pages so I'm hoping this will kickstart my love of reading again.

May not seem like a big deal to most, but I read a whole chapter today and I'm very happy. For 10 or so years I've been wanting to read again but never managed to catch the bug. I downloaded reading helper app, and I type in the book name and how many pages, and you put in the date you want to finish and it tells you how many pages you'd need to read a day. I'm going to start on a book a month for a couple of months and then gradually try to read a book a week.

Finished my book. It had a couple of stories in it. Very easy read, probably for young adults, but it was fine for me because I haven't read a book in a good 10+ years. Will hope to start another book today.

I've been reading the same book for 4 years.

Nothing wrong with polishing off a kid's book. If that's what you're into.

    Cemetery Road - Greg Iles

What. A. Book. I’d argue it’s flawless. It didn’t end the way I wanted it to but the ending was perfect. I can’t recommend this book enough. Between his Natchez Burning trilogy and now this, that’s four amazing works in a row from Iles.

    10/10.

Wrapped up "Wonderland" and thought it was pretty great, very suspenseful, a bit repetitive. (4/5)

    Black Flamingo - Amazing. (5/5)

I am now on "Get A Life Chloe Brown"

I am reading Max Brooks' new book about a tribe of Bigfeet massacring a wilderness techno village created by an Elon Musk expy. I don't think I am supposed to be rooting for the Bigfeet, or Bigfoots not sure how to pluralize that, to murder all these people, but I am.

    Do audiobooks count?

I started listening to The Terminal List by Jack Carr. It's being made into a show on Amazon Prime starring Chris Pratt, it's filming now. Without giving too much away it's about a guy out for revenge after he's betrayed by his government. I'm only a few hours in but it's pretty good so far. The author is super descriptive with the weapons and equipment and some of that does go over my head but other things like vehicles help you really visualize what's going on. It's actually the first book in a series and the 4th book just came out.

I have this on my kindle and was hoping it would be good. The plot sounds like the kind of thing I enjoy. If you like it, I recommend Brad Thor, Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills, and Scott Mariani. Similar ideas but all very, very good.

Went through my books this past weekend, and found out that out of Stephen King's 60 or so published novels, I have 50 of them in hardcover. I should try to track down the remaining ones. I have Duma Key in paperback, but should try to get the hardcover edition.

One of the books, Rage, is out of print because it deals with school shootings and King let it go out of print. May need to fork over some money for that one I assume.

Out of his recent novels I really liked The Institute. When I was younger I liked the book Cell. I downloaded the audiobook of his new book Later to listen to after I finish The Terminal List by Jack Carr. I have 2 hours left on it. I'll probably finish it today.

Currently reading a biography of Janis Joplin that is very detailed. Janis, by Holly George Warren. Very good.

I also just got David Wright’s autobiography so that should be a good read. Lots of fiction on my Kindle too. I’m getting into the Gray Man series by Mark Greaney which is about to be a Netflix movie with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.

I have the Institute but haven't read it yet. I have a really frustrating inability to pick up a book and read. I'm so distracted by internet, TV, phone, etc.

I'm actually the same way but I've found audiobooks to work great in place of reading on my kindle. I can even play my dumb phone games while listening to an audiobook. They're also great for driving and cleaning house or doing laundry or dishes. I think The Institute was the last book I read on my kindle but a lot of that was done on my lunch break at my old job. Now I have so much freedom working from home it's hard to make myself read.

A couple of days ago I started reading "The Sphere" by Dave Eggers. I watched the film adaptation a couple of years ago, recently reviewed it and noticed that the film was based on a book. I decided to read the book as well, because I love dystopias.

I signed up for a Comixology Unlimited free trial and I also have an app that can access comics not on Comixology Unlimited so I've started getting back into comics now that I have a 10inch tablet to read them on. I love my fire hd 10 plus.

I just started a comic called Five Ghosts about a guy who gets the ability of five literary ghosts after touching something called the Dreamstone. There's only like 18 issues so I'll probably finish it tonight and start something else.

Did you finish this? What did you end up thinking? I just finished it last night and thought it was pretty good. You could definitely tell it was his first novel but it was an easy read and very enjoyable. I think a series is the right way to go as a movie would skip over a lot of the conspiracy aspect of it and it would end up not making sense. I think a deep dive into some of these characters would be a good thing.

I finished it and really liked it. I tried to start the 2nd book and couldn't get into it though, seems forced as a book series to me. I'm still excited for the series on Amazon.

I keep planning to listen to Later by Stephen King but haven't gotten around to it. I did just buy a new bluetooth speaker so maybe I'll get around to it soon.

That's a bummer. I agree that it doesn't necessarily lend itself to being a series given what happened in the first. Looks like the series will drop sometime next year so hopefully that will be good. But with Pratt as Reece it should be very good.

I'm about 20% through Made Men. It's a very in-depth look at how Goodfellas came to be a movie. It's incredible and almost as good as the film. Apparently Tom Cruise was being looked at to play Henry Hill, something I didn't know.

Next up is Alright, Alright, Alright, which is a behind the scenes book about Dazed and Confused.

Haven't read a novel in years, but on holiday recently read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Loved it. Original, thought provoking, sad, yet hopeful. Really, really enjoyed it. Could totally see it on the big screen.

So, I have 58 out of 63 Stephen King novels. All but 4 are hardcover, (I'm not paying $500 for a hardcover of Cycle of the Werewolf).

I'm really happy my collection is nearly complete. Saw one I was missing at a thrift store last weekend, but I thought I already had it but apparently not so I will be going back there this weekend and hope it's still there.

I think I have all the short story collections too, but I know I'm missing a few of his non-fiction books.

I'm currently watching The Outsider on HBO Max. Very strange.

The first Stephen King book I ever finished was Eyes of the Dragon. I actually read it in 4th grade. A friend of mine gave it to me. All I knew about Stephen King was the horror stuff so reading this book was wild.

I only own 3 Stephen King books. Eyes of the Dragon, IT, and Dark Tower The Gunslinger.

I've only read The Green Mile by Stephen King and I have one of his short story collections.

Might try another one day. Just don't get the impression I'd be a big fan. Could be wrong.

I'm a massive Stephen King fan. The first ever book of his I read was Desperation...maybe back in 1995 or 1996. I've read plenty of his novels since, just not all of them. I definitely haven't read anything since Blaze, and that might have been 2008 or 2009. I hope I pick the reading habit up again, it would be awesome to re-read his earlier novels and read the newer ones. I think I might try to read his entire novels in a year. Would be 1 or 2 books a week, I know he has a few really long novels but he has some short ones too so maybe they even out.

I don't think you would. Much of what happened in the second book provided the plot for the third book but the author recapped all the action pretty well. This one starts a little slow action-wise but when it kicks off, man it kicks off. My only complaint is that Carr gets a little political at times. If the Amazon series gets renewed they should skip the second book and go right to this one, it's that good.

Ok, I'll probably check out the audiobook like I did the 1st one. Way too busy for actual reading lol. I just looked it up and the Amazon series is supposed to be out July 1st. I expect a lot of patriotic promotion for this show.

I used to do audiobooks but now I have a Kindle so every night I read in bed before going to sleep. My wife is happy because I don’t keep the light on any longer. At last count I think I have about 50 books to read and usually add a few a month.

Oh yeah, lots of patriotic promotion for that. They should lean into a “loved his country, doesn’t like his government” theme. I think that would resonate with a lot of people.

You're wrong Mr. Caine. I've read two books since I posted that post, all in the past two weeks, so I'm my path of one book a week. Sure, it took me 5 months but better late than never.

Just found that my favorite sports author is writing a biography of Bo Jackson called "The Last Folk Hero," which is a great name for Jackson considering the number of legends about the guy. Really, really looking forward to that one. I'm an 80s child so Bo is still one of my favorite athletes of all time.

Just finished Mox's book. Interesting read. I liked the stream of consciousness aspect of it. I didn't mind him jumping from time to time instead of just going in chronological order. Highly recommend it.

I'm only a few chapters in but I'm digging this book. I haven't read anything outside of graphic novels in a few years and Grohl is probably my favorite rock personality next to Jerry Cantrell.

Much like a typical librarian/library worker, I am reading multiple books. Struggle to find time to read honestly so just bits and pieces here and there. right now I am working on a variety of books about witchcraft to learn more about it.

I'm similar in a way. I've got a book at my work desk, a book in the bathroom, and a book on my bedside table. All three just collecting dust as I usually play games on my phone instead

I think I should go back to a flip phone. Are those still around? I was far more productive in everything before I had a smart phone.

Yes flip phones are still around. Had to switch my son to one for a while so all he could do was call and text because the smart phone was glued to his hand and he wasn't doing anything else. But I feel you on it. I play on my phone too much. My wife reads a lot on her phone. I have a big screen but still too small for me when it comes to reading. I have a kindle fire. I mostly play games on it. That being said I have started multiple books in my kindle library.

Tried an e-book once, didn't really enjoy the experience. Something about a physical book feels good to me. Maybe I'll try e-books again, I might read more that way.

I prefer physical books. I don't mind reading a novel for fun on my kindle but if it is a book that is for school or just my own research or whatever then I want the physical book.

I prefer physical books as well, but if I owned an iPad or Kindle I would probably do more e-reading. I simply don't have any reason to own a tablet and e-reading isn't going to compel me to buy one.

I re-started A Song of Ice and Fire. I previously read books 1 and 2, but stopped midway through book 3. I bought all 5 on Amazon so I'll go through them all now. I wanted to wait for book 6 to drop but that'll never happen. I really do hope he finishes the series before he dies, and it's quite frustrating that it's been 11 years since he released one.

Big fan of e-readers as I like to read after my wife falls asleep. Keeping the bedroom light on keeps her up so I can read my Kindle in the dark.

Just finished biographies of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Duane Allman, and Janis Joplin.

I just got the last six books of the Gray Man series so that's what I'll be on next.

I also got the last two books of Matthew Reilly's Jack West Jr. series so I'm looking forward to those as well. Dynamite action books.

I bought one of those lights that you clip to the physical book, however I find it uncomfortable to read laying down so I don't use it too often.

Hmm I have wanted a light clip for my books too, although I sometimes read e-books too.

Trying to read a book on a kindle, tablet, etc kills my eyes. It's bad enough I look at a computer all day. I've tried to read books and graphic novels on my phone, kindle, it just fucks with my eyes. I can definitely see the benefits if you like to read in bed while your significant other wants the lights off. I wish I didn't have the eyes of a dead man.

I feel you. I have some reading glasses that block blue light to help with strain of looking at screens all day. I am not always the best about using them. Because I don't like to admit I need them when I am wearing my contacts even though my glasses are bi-focal's

I feel like I'd just turn the light on rather than get a clip light.

Wouldn't want to disturb the wife who's sleeping though.

    A good point.
That's something that I don't have to consider.

Also, The Book Thief. The dedication to his parents made me want to know more about them.
They both told him lots of stories. Safe to say they got him into writing.
