Script is done, storyboard, we just need to location scouting and casting call. Meeting with the first AD in August. I don't know whether to share my IMDB profile here incase my sordid history here might sort of jeperdoize that but i'm stoked either way.

What brought me to this was a lot of hard work and support from my producer, we have a pretty good hook there and I'm quite exicted. This came from a low point in my life where I wanted to end my life but thankfully I didn't.

It's a social drama about the lives of a sub-culture here in Sydney called, 'lads' and is set in 2005 who are entrenched in Sydney's graffiti culture. Series one will focus on them. The short is amazing from the script to the storyboard and have a great production company behind it. The second series will follow The Sharpies and be set in Sydney 1966 and the third will follow the punk scene in the 80s, two 18 year-olds in love so it is very much in the same spirit of Shane Meadows' This is England. I can't give the title of the short or series atm however.

But I do know you do not know what you're talking about (NZ??) and that yes, you are bashing me for no apparent reason. I kind of feel sorry for you in a way because of that.

Heh. I have a few ace up my sleeves after this project, one is really unique. The other is a next-generation sequel to Once Were Warriors pre-titled We Are Still Warriors, outline is basic atm but I want to explore Jake the Muss as an aging, weak man trying to curb his volatile, huge grandson from taking the path he took which would be fantastic after the mess that was What Becomes of the Broken Hearted. If I could get Tamahori and Cliff Curtis to produce it then I'd be happy with a feature than a film and to sort of close the chapter on that legendary Maori series.

The script for the short is done. The outline for the series hasn't been but it will continue off where the short ends so yeah, the short will be about 15 minutes long. Then I'm hopeful that each season will be 45 minute episodes, 6-7 episodes each season.

Then off to my second series called "2000" which is something I wanted to do way back before this project. First episode is the last two weeks of 1996 then each season is 1997/ 1998/ 1999/ 2000

It's about an early 20s kid who does a work for the dole program and ends up working for a Sydney car wash admist all the 2000 Olympic Games hype going on. I want Ahn Doh (an Aussie comedian) to play the carwash owner and who is the head of 5T-like syndicate (A Vietnamese crim org). He uses the kid as a red latern (fighting, standover work, hitmen) then there's the green laterns (money men) so we see this kid's descent into Sydney Chinatown's crime and it's quite good. Especially the ending. I want to sort have every episode open and end with a 90's song, first episode ends after the kid ends up killing three bikies for some drugs, meets up Doh's lawyer's assistant for NYE 96/97 takes ecstacy for the first time while Rhythm of the Night by Corona plays, as he ponders his future after having just killed three people and gaining respect and love from Doh's character along with the acceptance he has been longing for since he was a child.

Then after a few series here, I want to do an indie feature then do something mainstream like...

A serious Mortal Kombat film called The Great Shaolin Tournament. Opening scene would be the Great Kung Lao verse Prince Goro. Prince Goro's entrance would have hundreds of people banging drums, women dancing around as he makes his entrance. Goro would be a Nephilim and the tournament would be held in a secluded area of the world. Shang Tsung is a demonically-filled human sorcerer and Raiden would actually be a fallen angel so I wanted to sort of change the mythology and present something limited fantasy with realism. Shao Kahn's empire and world is an alternate reality version of Earth, etc. or a live-action Dragon Ball film, filmed in New Zealand. I'd love to see a ripped, bulked up Taika Watiti as Goku, Cliff Curtis as Vegeta and use primarily Maori actors as the Saiyans and when Goku turns Super Saiyan at the end. Glowing hair mde of light instead of yellow.

Maybe but we have a plan and we're going for either SBS, ABC or NITV. I believe that the short will show the potential for a social drama series. It's one of my most mainstream, digestible ideas/stories so the Producer agrees aswell and sees the potential it has. Our angle is pretty tight and strong and hopefully by the second series, the older generations would reminisce about the Sharpies from the 60s. The first series should gain a lot of attention from those in and out of the lad sub-culture. What I'm doing is breaking down the whole sub-culture and creating characters people will love or hate. This is why I said the closest thing to this series is probably the This is England 86/88/90 series. Ours is dealing with Sydney sub-cultures and if it's successful and well-written with great characters arcs, we should have some pull. I think Aus is ready for a serious social drama. I really want to introduce a lot into a few episodes after the short.

I'm really pushing this as the series' theme. I think it captures the whole series' theme perfectly.

None of them are or were skinheads. I wouldn't make a series about skinheads either and This is England did it better than I ever could or would have done. What I'm doing is creating a short about a sub-culture native to Sydney (Melbourne is actually where the shuffle started - that whole shuffle craze) but they have their own dance called Gabba, which is called Hakken. I grew up with them in 05 and 06 so I have some insight into what they were like, they were just good blokes who graffitied trains but there would always be drama amongst them. The Sharpies were a whole other thing. They would legit, they would have the crews' names printed on the back of their shirts which was native to Melbourne and Sydney and the Post-Punk scene in the 70s and 80s is really interesting too so when we pitch, I have this general outline. The Post-Punks of the 80s were into heroin and will be the parents of the lads from the first series.

It's already in pre-production as listed on imdb, casting call is next month and filming with a crew that's already done numerous films. I'm getting a script editor though so that's okay, I feel some of the dialogue will be changed but no biggie. I am seeing things realistically and basically see the business side of it, the channels we are going for are very alternative and our demo are people 16-35. I mean Aussie TV is pretty terrible sometimes, after Underbelly came out, I wanted this to be the anti-Underbelly, cut out all the overacting and just present a realistic setting with real people and let them do their thing, throw a rock into the pond and watch as the drama unfolds. It is going to the Sydney Film Festival first then after that, we will pitch this as an ode to our youths. I think the older generations would love seeing the 60s and 70s/80s again from their youthful perspectives. So, as a filmmaker I have to think of the business side and capture an audience who are into social drama stories.

Yeah so I had to really spend time on the characters and go back into their pasts, for example there's one character that is a lad and is friends with two other lads however he shows sociopathic behaviour. He borders on a fine line between antagonist and not an antagonist, he's not a protagonist either, it's just the way he is. I talked with two actors about the part and we sort of got into his history and came up with what if he was abused as a child and it's turned him into this person. One of the lads is based on a few Pacific Islanders I know, they grew up in the church but outside of the church they do their thing, the other lad is probably my favourite, he has a high IQ and is the brains, he is a real introvert and actually has great artistic talent with his graffiti and if he wasn't a lad then he'd probably be an artist studying at a University, I really like him though. He is non-violent but I feel like he was probably alone a lot growing up and found brotherly love by being a lad. So, what is a lad? A lad is basically Sydney's version of a chav. So what I want to explore is, with their uniforms of Ralph Lauren polo caps, Nautica shirts and shorts and Nike TNs, where is their personal identity? And are these three if they weren't apart of this sub-culture? So, there's also the younger brother of the sociopathic lad who is being guided by a school counsellor who plays an integral part in the story. The short film is parable and I hope audiences will get it. It does have a three act structure but it's really drawing outside the lines with it. The opening scene is the inciting incident and yeah, I wish I could put up the script but I can't but I can talk about this.

Also, so I had to take a month break from writing the characters because I would get into 'method' writing and get inside their heads. Now, getting inside the head of a sociopath wasn't fun and it gave me nightmares and very scary thoughts. I've had therapy for that but now, I'm never doing that again. So, now I'm just learning to separate my life from my work, even though my life is my work, I have to put a barrier up because yeah, things can get pretty weird. Much alike method actors. This short is very character-driven and without these characters, the short would have no interest from any producer. And you also have to talk a big game to get people on your side to see your vision, once I painted a picture of doing a series about Sydney sub-cultures but done in a way much alike Breaking Bad, I got a really good producer who is doing straight-to-DVD films (one which I am getting a producer credit for) so yeah, I was going to do the Aaron Sorkin Masterclass thing but I view films a lot like life, you can colour inside the lines and go from point A to B to C, or you can colour outside the lines while still hitting the points just in a different way.

You wouldn't believe me if I told you but I found inspiration for this short film from Grand Theft Auto IV's story, I believe that - that story is so criminally underrated, it's one of the best in video game history. The amount of detail put into the protagonist's backstory is great and actually not getting revenge on the actual antagonist (Bulgarin) was genius and felt realistic. Instead we settle for Dimitri or Pegorino. So, that coupled with Drive, Only God Forgives and a lot Refn's work sort of pushed me to come up with this idea. Though, I already had this idea since 2011, script and all but it was just basically a glorified music video, after going to film school and learning about character development, arcs, story structure, I went back to it and fixed it up. I'm happy with the script and I will be happy when the script editor edits so it's digestible and gets the point across better. I sort of want to do a few short films, a possible television series then go into the video game industry and do stories for them as I believe that the video game industry will soon eclipse Hollywood films as they are interactive. Soon, they will be handing out awards for best story much alike they do for films so I want to get aboard that train hopefully by the time I'm 40 (I'm 30 now).

Nah, I didn't pay for anything. I don't know if you know how it actually works, a Producer has to produce it then once he/or the production company have a production crew at hand then it gets listed. We have a facebook page set-up with some graphic design stuff, promotional. Even my profile wasn't created by myself. So, I'm going to get an agent soon to deal with all of that after this.
