Honestly....For people my age this was the greatest turn ever until Hollywood Hogan. It wasn't even a big shock to me at this age, it was simply the brutality of the turn. This helped Shawn tremendously and I'm sad Marty was not able to reach a similar level.
Its such a weird, subtle little thing, but Shawn really did a great job of foreshadowing his heel turn by gradually growing out his chest hair.

I know, it seems like a big old nothing, but going from clean shaven Ken Doll to somebody who looked a little more rough and tumble was a good way to very broadly hint that his character was starting to change.

Also marks the day tickets to the hall of fame had to be refunded because the venue sold the section that was for the super stars.

Benoit defeats Sid with the Crippler Crossface to win the WCW Title. Benoit is stripped of the title the next night as he has already decided to leave the company and head to WWF where he would debut two weeks later.

Today marks the day that Ludvig Borga wrestled his final match. It was against Rick Steiner and it was an unfortunate ankle injury that ended his career

Tatanka never got his revenge at Royal Rumble 94.

Speaking of Rumbles, Rumble 1998 was today. Shawn's back injury and Austin's 2nd Rumble victory.

Luna really looks to ram her face on that Vader Bomb. I thought that was a pretty decent match for what it was.

You know what's funny is I felt physically this was probably Dustin and Vader's lowest period of their careers but it was drawing a lot of eyeballs.

Hogan wins his first Rumble and HBK his second even though Vader through him out, and Austin his third.

1963 - Lou Thesz defeats Buddy Rogers in Toronto, Ontario to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title for the third time. However, Northeast promoters refuse to recognize the title change since it was a one-fall match (title matches back then were two out of three falls), and break away from the National Wrestling Alliance to form a new organization, the World Wide Wrestling Federation (later WWF, now known as WWE).

1988 - In direct competition to the NWA Bunkhouse Stampede pay-per-view, the WWF presented the first ever Royal Rumble, aired live on USA Network, from Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The show featured the contract signing for WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant's title match to take place at February 5's Main Event, as well as Dino Bravo attempting to break the world benchpress record of 712 pounds, which he did, with help from Jesse Ventura. The results were:
    - Ricky Steamboat defeated Rick Rude by disqualification, after Rude pulled the referee in the way while Steamboat jumped off the top rope.
    - The Jumping Bomb Angels (Noriyo Tateno and Itsuki Yamazaki) defeated WWF Women's Tag Team Champions The Glamour Girls (Leilani Kai and Judy Martin (with Jimmy Hart)) in a two out of three falls match, to win the title. In the first fall, Martin pinned Yamazaki after a reverse powerbomb. Yamazaki pinned Kai with a sunset flip to win fall #2, and Tateno pinned Martin after a double missile dropkick for the third fall.
    - Jim Duggan, entering from the #13 spot, last eliminating the One Man Gang (#19) to win the Royal Rumble match. This Rumble match, unlike all the others, had only 20 entrants. Bret Hart (#1) lasted 25 minutes and 42 seconds in the ring, the longest to be in the ring.
    - The Islanders (Haku & Tama) defeated The Young Stallions (Jim Powers & Paul Roma) in two straight falls of a three fall match.

    1993
the debut of Giant Gonzalez in WWF

1999 The Rock defeated WWF Champion Mankind in an I Quit match to win the title, beginning his second reign. Rock won after placing the microphone by Mankind's mouth and letting the words "I quit" (taken from a previous Mankind promo) play out on the speakers. This match was featured in the documentary "Beyond the Mat".
    - #2 entrant Vince McMahon won the Royal Rumble match, last eliminating #1 entrant Steve Austin. Vince snuck out of the ring under the bottom rope during the match, with Austin chasing him afterward, through the crowd and out of the arena. The two brawled into a bathroom but The Corporation was waiting inside and attacked Austin. Austin was then taken away in an ambulance. McMahon came back into the arena and actually joined Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler on commentary during the match. Austin returned to the arena, driving the ambulance he was taken away in. McMahon won when The Rock interfered and distracted Austin, letting McMahon eliminate him from behind. Austin and McMahon, as the first two entrants and the last two in the match, were in the longest, for 56 minutes and 38 seconds. Austin had the most eliminations, with eight.

Didn't know that about Lou These and the formation WWWF, pretty huge development in wrestling history as well.

He could have just said he opposed ending the streak, but I guess fabricating a narrative was a good way to go too.

I don't think it's that serious. You call it "fabricating a narrative" I call it saving people from asking him why he felt that way.

A few things on the list for today:

1991- Slaughter pins the Ultimate Warrior to become WWF World Champion
1992- Ric Flair wins the Royal Rumble becoming the WWF World Champion
1997- Steve Austin wins his first Royal Rumble
2003- Brock Lesnar wins the Royal Rumble
2007- Bam Bam Bigelow is found dead in his Florida home
2015- Sting shows up on RAW for the first time
How are the both 1991 and 1992 Royal Rumbles on the same date if both were on a Sunday?

I don't specifically recall, but I watched both and thought they were on Sundays which would mean there should be a one day difference.

If theyre listed for the same day, however, the 1991 Rumble must've been on a Saturday.

    does anybody know or remember?

1991 was on a Saturday. I think only 1 or 2 more ppvs were not on Sunday that year and then they transition completely in 1992.

Today marks the debut of the Radicalz.
Harvey Whippleman becomes the first man to win the Women's title
And I should have figured this but Edge wins both Rumbles on the exact same day of the year. Jan 31st. (2010 and 2021)

    2/1

The last airing of NBC's WWF Saturday Night Main Event
Brutus Beefcake also made his in ring return on Monday night Raw vs Ted Debiase
Unless I am incorrect, Undertaker and Kane also faced Rikishi and Haku in what I believe is the first ever tag team first blood match.
