I don't think Manziel will end up like Aaron Hernandez, that seems like a stretch. I agree that I hope no one signs him but whatever, he's a bust, his NFL career is probably over, he's not really even an interesting point of discussion anymore. Just a Jamarcus Russell-esque burnout.

Sanchez to the Broncos but it seems like they want him as a backup and are still looking to bring in Kaepernick.

    Chris Hogan fantasy sleeper 2016.

Is Manziel the second biggest bust in history next to Ryan Leaf?

EDIT why did I not include Russell

I think there's probably other bigger QB busts as well since Manziel was only drafted 22nd, but off the top of my head I can't think of any. Surely there were some QBs who went top 15 and did nothing that we're forgetting.

Steaming hot take: Mark Sanchez isn't any worse than Manning was last year.

It's hard to be as bad as Manning was last year. He was the worst QB in the NFL in 2015, and arguably the worst QB to get significant playing time in the last several years.

The 2011 draft has 3 QBs alone that were just as bigger busts as Manziel, if not bigger relative to draft position. Second biggest bust in history not even narrowing it down to QBs is a laughable comment.

Given Justin Gilbert's career so far he's probably not even the biggest Browns bust of the 2014 draft let alone ALL TIME EVER.

Yea judas is a real ass hat.

I actually have to say I'm impressed with the Giants additions though, they might be good this year. And if not it'll be fun to see them underperform and be screwed with all those big contracts and realize they should have kept coughlin.

This. Jerry Jones is on record as saying Romo is his starter going forward, the Manziel interest has been there in the past, the Cowboys are not adverse to hiring dudes with questionable character.

Dallas gets the attention grab by signing the local boy, JM gets to learn and watch behind Romo for a couple years.

Johnny Football is the prime example of why only half-competent QBs are getting huge contracts nowadays. He flamed out in the most spectacular way possible and this scares NFL teams to even pin their hopes on unproven rookies. Many would rather spend their money on QBs that would have been backups 15-20 years ago. Granted, many of them are getting contracts with downsides to lessen the risks, but they are still banking on them to win games for them.

Will Cleveland try to draft a QB and risk the same situation, or do they trade for or sign a Kaepernick or RGIII?

Cleveland should draft a QB. They have two studs staring them in the face. But, it's Cleveland so they'll likely trade for Kaep and continue to Cleveland.

And I don't know where you get that teams aren't counting on unproven rookie QB's when they certainly are. Bortles, Bridgewater, Carr, Mariota, Winston. It's not like Manziel's problems are some kind of contagion. His is isolated dumbass, no need to worry about it rubbing off. And these youngsters aren't going to all work out either, but guys like EJ Manuel, Geno Smith, Blaine Gabbert, and Christian Ponder never should have been taken where they were to begin with. That only smacks of desperate team builders and not to whether or not young QB's are there to be had and can be depended on. It does take a bit of discernment though.

Turning the corner on the combine and free-agency, anyone have their draft wishlist narrowed down?

Picking late in the first stinks, but this draft isn't demonstrably top heavy and so a few names are keeping a very good profile. We have definitive soft spots at DT, C, and OT, with plenty of other areas of concern as well.

Duane Brown's health will be our key to what door to open as this plays out, so my first two options are assuming Brown isn't trusted to contribute readily, with the following a combination of need and opportunity ...

    Jack Conklin, OT, Mich St
    Jason Spriggs, OT, Indiana
    Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
    Josh Doctson, WR, TCU

So ya, anyone else have their best laid plans for late April yet?

Chicago will go best player available. I have seen a few mocks with Wentz dropping to them which I don't see happening, but I'd be so down for it.

Otherwise no real expectations, maybe Alexander from Clemson or Buckner from Oregon if he drops a bit

Couldn't imagine Wentz getting past San Fran.

Alexander is the best CB in this draft, imo.

Hargreaves and Ramsey will go top 8 I reckon.

Both are good, Ramsey is a crazy athlete. Neither will be available past the top ten, Wentz as well.

I don't see Ramsey as a corner. He can certainly do that, and that versatility is golden, but he's a space eater in the defensive backfield more so.

And Hargreaves is very good, but I'd rather have Mack every day.

Patriots trade Chandler Jones to Arizona for Jonathan Cooper (guard) & 2nd round pick (61st overall). I like the deal, but sad to see Chan Man go. He is very energetic and personable in his interviews and social media, and a damn good player. But this was in the cards.

My wish is Jalen Ramsey at 4 but I'm not sure he makes it past San Diego. Not sure Myles Jack or Joey Bosa are fits especially given McClain's resigning regarding Jack. If Goff/Wentz are still there I will probably prefer a trade down than to take one but I flip flop daily on whether picking Romo's replacement here is a good thing or not. Please no to Elliot at 4, he could be the second coming of Walter Peyton and I'd still not want to pick him so high.

As much as I love Ramsey, I honestly think you guys would be off your collective rocker to not take Goff or Wentz. Those two are legit, and how often does a team just fall into a situation to have a seamless franchise QB transition. Just look at every team scouring the QB bargain bin or at what marginal QB's are getting in free agency. Just look a couple hundred miles south for goodness sake.

So ya, hope you take DeForest Buckner.

Are Titans going to take Tunsil at #1? I keep reading that that would mean he plays RT or Lewan moves across the other side... is that a pretty simple thing to do like in Madden? I can't imagine being a blind side tackle for a RH QB is a pretty different prospect to open side. Having your dominant hand on the outside would be a big thing to lose as well.

Is someone going to trade up to guarantee they get Goff/Wentz? I assume that is all highly dependent on how the Kaepernick thing goes... if he ends up in Cleveland, they take Ramsey, if he stays or ends up in Denver, they take one of the two QB's and that means you have a heap of teams scrambling to get the other one. Can just see him going to Denver, Rams trading up to #1 and 49ers starting the season with Thad Lewis and Paxton Lynch/Connor Cook at QB

Be awfully surprised if Tenn doesn't take Tunsil, he's that good. Also figure they have Lewan move to the right. It's not advanced acrobatics to switch, but it's also not so simple. The footwork is the biggest adjustment, the kickstep, shifting weight, and hip adjustment. Depends on the player how well a guy can pull it off. Some guys make a living as a swing tackle, some guys get so entrenched in the muscle memory devoted to mastering one side or the other. I think Lewan is agile and has the footwork enough to move over and allow a talent like Tunsil to be a stud on the blind side though.

And you signed Chris Long to replace him.

You get a guard that you needed, probably freed up some cap space and get a second round pick... that sounds like a great bit of business.

Great trade for both teams. Patriots (who love 2nd round picks) get that and a guard with great promise, if he can stay healthy. He also makes under $700k this year, so it frees up a great deal of cap space. Chris Long is also a good signing. I may be annoyed that the patriots win a lot, but you got to respect how Bill works as a GM.

Patriots traded for Martellus Bennett. Looks like they gave up a 4th and will get a 6th back as well. I like it. Back to a double TE-set.

From what the local sources are saying, Lewan would definitely move to RT as the feeling is he would be better there anyway.

I don't care. Just protect Mariota. For the love of fucking God protect Mariota. The kid has all the skills but he just got jackhammered last season. Absolutely beat to shit. That simply cannot be allowed to continue.

How about Shea McClellin? Just signed with the Pats for 3 years. 81 tackles in 12 games last year. Any good?

Pats are raking up former 1st round picks. McClellin, Chris Long, Jonathan Cooper and Donald Brown.

    McClellin sucks.

IMO he's a back up/special teamer, at best. He's not good enough to be a starter.

Yeah, Shea is trash. He can rack up tackles, but is out of position way too often.

Jon Gruden says Carson Wentz is the most NFL-ready QB he's seen in years

Wentz’s experience in a pro-style scheme is what has Gruden fawning over him. The offense he was running at North Dakota State is one Gruden can instantly recognize.
Grain of salt with Gruden's infatuation with any young QB, but really this kid is a stud. He's been running things pro passing concepts and directing protection and route adjustments for a couple years already. Hope to fuck Cleveland doesn't get their stink all over him.

Chip Kelly made the Titans a ridiculous trade offer to get Marcus Mariota

"Last year the Eagles offered the Tennessee Titans -- and I know this -- a 2015 first-round pick, a 2015 second-round pick, a 2016 first-round pick, they said 'take any of our quarterbacks' -- that's Bradford, that's Sanchez, that's whoever -- [and] take anyone on our defense; we want that No. 2 pick,'" Schrager told Colin Cowherd on The Herd. "The Titans said no."
Grain of salt and all that, but I've also never heard of Peter Schrager to be of any disrepute. And this would be a doozy to up and claim just cuz.
If true, just wow. I mean, we knew Kelly had a Mariota-boner certainly, but that is ginormous.

Recap - Two firsts, a second, and effectively Sam Bradford and Fletcher Cox ... for Mariota.

Idk ... great fodder if nothing else.

I knew he wanted him but damn. Thank God the Titans didn't cave. They can't draft for shit, never have, so the picks would have all been a bust and we would've given up the best thing we've had at the QB position since McNair.

Rams agreed with NFL to not do ‘Hard Knocks’ in 2014 if they drafted Michael Sam: report

On Wednesday, the Rams were named the subject of this year's edition of "Hard Knocks," the HBO show that takes you inside training camp with an NFL team, but according to a tweet from veteran NFL journalist Howard Balzer, they could have been in the show two years earlier were it not for a behind-the-scenes deal with the NFL.

Balzer, citing "sources," tweeted Wednesday that the Rams avoided the 2014 edition of "Hard Knocks" because of their decision to select Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to declare for the NFL draft, in the seventh round that year.
Shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Still stinks though.

Hm I suppose that's one way to look at it. I haven't read more about it than that blurb but I look at it more like the team wanted to draft him but didn't want the spotlight of Hard Knocks to make the media madness of having a gay player even bigger than it already would be, so the NFL was like don't worry about that.

The NFL league office (and the owners who puppeteer it) is about as scummy as it comes. They deserve zero trust from the fans and even less from the players. This article published today by the NY Times basically equates them to the tobacco industry in terms of deceitfully manipulating science and using the same group of lobbyists and lawyers for the concussion issue that the tobacco industry used when fighting the link of tobacco to cancer.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/25/sp...=top-news&_r=0

But I will say, even though they are basically an evil corporation, they seem to be on the right side of the gay issue. Threatening not to give Atlanta a Super Bowl if Georgia's religious liberty bill passes is a good thing to do, and they've taken similar stances in the past. Maybe it would have been better for Michael Sam not to get drafted so he could have signed with a team who needed pass rushers and would have given him a better chance to make the roster, but I think having that moment where he got drafted and kissed his boyfriend and all that was probably a good step, albeit one that didn't really go anywhere in terms of his career. If this was a bribe situation, it's about 376th on the list of bad things the league has done in the last 3 years.

The Rams were looking to not be a part of Hard Knocks with or without Sam. The league was looking to avoid having Sam go undrafted. So they shook on it.

They didn't actually want Sam, they wanted to assuredly not be on the show.

The fact that the league had any part at all in the outcome of a draftpick stinks.

Tunsil has to go #1. 34 reps at the Ole Miss pro day, a number no one else beat at the scout combine... would have tied him with Westerman, best on the day.

Titans would be insane to pass him up, surely?

A Kaepernick trade to the Broncos is seeming likely although nothing official yet. I like this move from a Broncos perspective and still think Kaep can be solid. Seems that the deal is pending on Kaep agreeing to a restructure- if I were a Broncos fan I would definitely be hoping they can come to an agreement and push this through. His contract isn't THAT bad as is- 15 million cap hit in 2016 which is middle of the road for a QB then dead money of 5 mil and 2 mil the following 2 years if he doesn't work out and you have to cut him. I wouldn't get too stingy if I were them (a Super Bowl champion with its eyes on a repeat and no QB).

Do the Broncos have the cap space for him? I have no idea what their space is, but I read they didn't have much. I also heard they want Kaep to take a pay cut to come over, but would he do that or sit on his current contract?

Yes, we decided to go all in and hit them with a RICO charge. The countless instances of corruption by the NFL as well as the league-wide, systematic targeting of the Patriots is akin to the actions of an organized crime syndicate, whether it is called Mafia or "Cosa Nostra" or whatever other name you wish to give it, and we believe this is grounds for a racketeering charge.

I can't speak further on the matter while litigation is pending. All I will add is that if these corruption charges are found true, I hope the NFL will have the decency to clear the Patriots' name with the same publicity with which they now have besmirched it.

Lions fans should sue them for years of emotional suffering and abandonment.

Lions fans have tried (unsuccessfully) to sue the NFL on several occasions. In each attempt, the suit was dropped on account of the filed claim consisting of several hundred pages of nothing but the lyrics to "Bawitdaba" repeated over and over in Comic Sans.

RIP Will Smith (the former Saints DE and pro bowler with 67 career sacks). Shot and killed in New Orleans after a dispute over a fender bender.

Very sad story, Pierre Thomas was one of the first on scene. The two were hanging out last night.

What looked liked a road rage incident seems to be a lot more involved now. I don't know why the guy didn't just go after the former police chief if he had a beef with him.

Update (12:54 p.m.): The New Orleans Advocate reports Will Smith ate dinner with former New Orleans police captain Billy Ceravolo shortly before being murdered. Ceravolo was a defendant in a high-profile lawsuit filed by Cardell Hayes over the shooting death of Hayes’s father in 2005. The Advocate reports Ceravolo, who was personal friends of both Smith and Pierre Thomas, was not at the scene of the shooting.

Rams just traded up for #1. Must be going for that franchise qb to start life in their new home. Gave up 1st, 2ndx2, 3rd and 1st/3rd next year.

Jesus. Are the QBs even that good? That's a monster trade which could set the Titans up.

Titans weren't taking a QB so they didn't even need to get up to #1 if that was the route they wanted to go.

I keep reading that next year's QB draft class shits all over this one. Both Goff and Wentz are clearly ahead of the other QBs this year but are only going as high because teams are desperate to get a franchise qb.

Also, it's not just about the titans. If they traded up to 2/3, that doesn't stop someone else trading to 1/2.

The Rams actually have a decent roster don't they? Just lacking a qb to throw it.

Dumb fucking trade. Four years ago it was the Rams fleecing the Redskins in the RG III trade, now they make the same mistake.

Yeah I feel like they gave up a ton when there is not a sure thing QB out there.

It certainly throws the previous mocks out, changes quite a lot of things. Wentz 1/Goff 2 means Chargers can get Tunsil and BPA for Cowboys would be Ramsey?

I think both Goff & Wentz have clear franchise talent.

On par with last year's two? I've not seen them but it's impossible to follow the draft without hearing lots about them.

Heckenberg is the QB I'm looking out for as he started and played well in the one College game I've been to.

If we assume the Rams go 8-8 next year (seems fair, basically what they've done for years now) then the Titans doubled their pick value. Plus there's a lot more upside, I think the odds of the Rams picking in the top 10 is a lot higher than the odds of them picking 20-32 next year.

Here's the Football Perspective Draft Value Chart, which I think is adapted from the old Jimmy Johnson chart: http://www.footballperspective.com/draft-value-chart/

I hate trading up. We can say it's worth it if you're getting a sure thing, but who is actually a sure thing? There have been plenty of guys who everyone thought were sure things that turned out to be busts. I'm not really convinced anyone is actually good at drafting. Belichick has blown tons and tons of picks over the years. I think the only winning strategy is to get more picks so you have more chances to be right, which is what the Patriots have been successfully doing for years now.

Edit: Forgot the Titans were trading their 4th and 6th. That does a little bit to even the value, but it's still something like 1.7:1.

There are trades where both teams win.

There are. And if Wentz turns out to be a franchise QB this is probably worth it. But most likely, it's really risky to gut your future trading that many picks to get one pick. In the more likely event he's a league average starter or worse, this will be looked back on as an awful trade. If I were them I would have stayed put and looked at drafting one of the QBs who fell to me.
