Come on Rune. We jumped the gun and it's coincided with a bad run.

Pogba is once again not looking interested. Herrera is leaving. I don't blame Ole for it all. But there wasn't much need to make him a permanent manager. Whether anyone else would have wanted to manage United in the state we are is a fair question. But don't say it's anything to do with money. We're fucking United after all we can just get an official carpet sponsor to pay for any manager.

I ain't denying that giving him the job early was a bad move. But IMO it was a bad move purely because it didnt need to be done. I don't see any actual evidence to suggest its had any impact on the results or how we're playing.

Pogba definitely looks like he's lost interest again. But would that be any different if Ole was still the interim manager? Probably not. The two most common reasons being suggested for Pogba's attitude have been either the fact that Sanchez gets paid so much and how he wants a equal raise, or the thought that we don't actually look like we're getting any closer to City and Liverpool and leaving United might be his best shot at winning silverware.

    EDIT
And I think money is a major issue for us right now. Its not that we dont have any. The Glazer's just don't want to spend any. We dragged out Mourinho's tenure because we didn't want to pay him for giving him the sack. We also refused to buy him some defenders that he kept asking for.
There's a part of me that feels one of the main reasons for appointing Ole was because he was cheaper than the alternatives. And the cynic in me thinks that his job was made permanent right around the tough games, so that if shit hit the fan, the supporters couldn't push the board to back out of the deal.

Why don't we just give the guy a chance to prove he deserves it instead of jumping to conclusions after a 1-0 loss to Barcelona. Give him a chance to get some players in and see what he can do. I think he did a good job not to get slaughtered by 10 after the look of the first 10 minutes, and that's with the likes of Ashley Young as your go to.

I'm definitely giving him a chance. I'm just against the idea that making him the permanent manager has had any effect on the team itself. And its funny to suggest that when you know it was the players who pushed for Ole to be made the permanent manager.
I've seen enough from Ole to be satisfied with the appointment. It's got nothing to do with results he's had, or where he'll finish, as those could be taken out of context. What I like is that he's more of a risk taker compared to the previous two managers. He doesn't go 1-0 and bring on a holding midfielder with 30 mins to go and try to shut the game down. He makes positive changes. He's also not stubborn in the way he plays. He's tried things that hasnt worked, and then swiftly changed it for the next game.
When you bring in a experienced manager like Van Gaal or Mourinho, they tend to have ideas that they firmly believe in (and rightfully so if its brought them success in the past). But my issue is that when it doesnt work, they blame the players for not matching their philosophy rather than questioning the philosophy. Ole on the other hand is young, inexperienced, and doesn't have a way of playing that he's trying to force onto this United team. He's going to learn from his mistakes and evolve over time. And I'm OK with that.

Young might be the most useless player in the UCL this season.

DDG has had a subpar season for him. Still some games where he was the difference don’t get me wrong. But there have been games where he’s had some absolute howlers this season.

I had a bit of a break while working. Was upset I was missing the game. Saw the goal highlights online. Didn’t feel bad to be missing it anymore.

Looks like he's trying to get sent off and book an early flight to where ever it is he wants to play next season.

Anyone catch the Ajax game last night? I gave up on the United game at half time and switched over - they are unreal. Believe the hype around these kids because De Jong, De Ligt and Van Der Beek are sensational. Ziyech as well. They played Juve off the pitch, as by all accounts they did in the first leg. And both games against Madrid. And both games against Bayern. I'm fully geared up for us to pull off a miraculous win over City only to get absolutely murdered by Ajax in the semis.

Fucking hell. Was out for dinner early last night and figured missing the first 10 minutes would be ok. Thankfully, I made it back just in time.

    Christ.

I refuse to watch the game on Saturday now. Fuck that, I fear a backlash.

Lads we're in a bloody Champions League semi-final. Granted we're coming into it on the back of awful form and an injury crisis against a team who seem to have the horrible status of being better than us, but also seen as a team we shouldn't lose to...but still. A flipping Champions League semi-final for stupid, useless, Spursy, Gary Doherty, Anthony Gardner, Paolo Tramezzani, Timothee Atouba, Grzegzorzz Rzaziakz, Dean Marney, Lee-Barnard-on-his-own-up-front-against-the-champions Tottenham.

Would take a 0-0 tonight on the basis that we have no players available and stopping Ajax getting an away goal could be crucial. Will be a big ask given they've beaten both Juve and Madrid away. Very excited to see them play a full 90 minutes for the first time, there's something almost nostalgic about the idea of seeing a team of players who are apparently fantastic but that you've seen almost nothing of.

Yep, would take a 0-0 right now too. But bloody hell, eh. Will be quite nervous come game time. Nothing a little cider can't fix.

Ajax were so good that first half hour or so. Think we showed enough in the second half to think we are still in it though.

If the Vertonghen thing happened as it looked, I hope we get in serious trouble. Can't be letting him back on the pitch in that state. Luckily Vertonghen realised himself but he could so easily have gone up for another header or got clattered again and he'd have been in serious danger.

Yeah, as he went back on, I knew something wasn't right. We have previous too, with Lloris being allowed to carry on that time after being knocked out.

As to the game, that's 180 minutes now where we never looked like scoring. That said, after about 30 minutes, I'd have taken a 1-0 loss. Like you said, so good that first half hour were Ajax.

Next week, Son and a fitter Sissoko. We've got this.

I’ve only just about recovered from last night.

    Mental. Totally mental.

My internet connection was playing up a bit early on and I have no desire to watch the final in a pub. So I'll have to get BT Sport for a month.

    All good though.

Christ this Champions League has been utterly bonkers.

I'd have been totally behind Ajax in the Final against Liverpool. This has developed over the years. I was ecstatic when Utd beat Munich in '99. My Gran came to check on me, I was making so much noise.

And the Liverpool Final in '05 was the same. I even had the DVD of the campaign that they released because the run to the final was also pretty epic. 'YOU BEAUUUUTTTTTYYYYYY'.

I don't like that Spurs will have a chance to now hold that compared to United they have the more recent trophy (and likely will for some time) but of course I'm going to go for them over Liverpool.

Imagine Spurs win and being a Top 6 side without a Champions League.

Two English teams, always go with the underdog. Son with the winner in a 1-0 tight affair.

I'm already dreading the possibility of extra-time and penalties.

My internet kept cutting out during the 1st half last night. Planned on getting BT Sport for the month just for the final. £65. Fuck off.

    Ooh, interesting.

To be fair, my internet isn’t shit. It’s only the BT and Sky Sports apps that are a bit iffy sometimes. Netflix, WWE Network not a problem at all.

It most definitely is not working so fine this year. Every minute there are red and white streaks across the screen for the slightest movement. It’s like Predator vision.

Congrats Chris Scott, hope you enjoyed it

The right team won I think - we dominated the game to a point, but I think that was informed by the early goal. After that, Liverpool were happy to let us have the ball and really, bar a late flurry when the game was gone, we didn't really threaten them.

The penalty felt a little harsh but it was the correct call I think, according to the current rules. It's a shame that it happened to us, and in such a massive game, but if I hear one more person say that the context (first minute of the CL final) meant it shouldn't have been given I think I might deliberately shit myself in anger. The referee's job isn't to prevent the game from being 'spoiled', it's to ensure things are fair and just. I don't think that those ones *should* be considered penalties, but under the current ruling I think it's correct. Maybe a little bit of dispute over how relevant it was that it hit his rib first?

I dunno if it was the early goal or what, but I didn't feel particularly tense at any point. Probably because it was quite a bad game. A few of our best players couldn't get involved enough (basically all the attackers) and, as good as Winks was, we couldn't control the game in any meaningful way. We were undone by a bit of bad luck, and the one bit of real quality in the game. No complaints whatsoever, and so proud of my team for even getting there. We'll always have City and Ajax

Fully agree with this, and it's why I will hate Phil Dowd forever for 2010 for not sending off Vidic after 5 minutes in the League Cup Final when he brought down Gabby one on one with the keeper for a penalty.

Bit of fall out post-final if anyone cares: Trippier has all but confirmed he will be leaving, there are strong rumours that Eriksen will be going and there is interest in Pochettino from Germany (presumably Bayern).

Trippier's given everything but he just isn't that good unfortunately, so I'm happy enough for him to go. Eriksen isn't going to sign a new contract so I think it might be time for him to go as well, and I would hope we can replace him with someone who might not be as talented but is more consistent. Poch though...please no. Give him what he wants. Give the Eriksen money as a personal gift to Pochettino to build a mini-Munich in his garden. I'd honestly sell any player - Kane included - ahead of losing Poch.

I'm still not over Richard Beeby sending off our goalie within 2 minutes of kick off at Old Trafford for handling the ball about 3 feet outside the area. I mean, he was right but i fucking hate that guy.

100%. Our performances without Kane over extended periods over the past couple years have shown we could survive without him, same with all of our other big names. It cannot be said loudly enough just how much Pochettino has overachieved given what he had to work with. He has made finishing top four the norm and continually improved us in the CL without spending basically any money, while all our rivals have continued to spend a fortune. I have no trust that whoever we rreplaced him with could work similar miracles, in fact it would be unreasonable to even think he might.

Miracle is pushing it. Since he took over you've not had to sell anyone particularly great unlike the previous decade, at a glance Walker is the only one of note. While you might not have spent loads you hit on Kane and Alli for free as well as landing Son, Alderweireld, Sissoko and built a decent squad overall. 3 of his 5 years in the league have yielded a lower points total than Villas Boas peaked at. You were averaging just under 70 the previous 5 years before he took over and average just over it since then. You'd still be top 4 with a bunch of other managers because your squad is currently a top 4 squad.

I had a chuckle to myself the night Spurs got through to the final of this. My Arsenal supporting mate said Poch had achieved 'nothing' and he was being serious and wasn't trolling. At least, I don't think he was.

Then again, this is the same 'fan' who messaged a WhatsApp group the Wednesday before at the end of the Europa final to say 'Just seen the Arsenal score, oh dear'.

All I know is he's taken us from shoe-ins for fifth every year to consistent CL qualifers along with a title challenge and a CL final, without spending any money, and while dealing with playing without a home stadium for two of those years. This is all a moo point anyway (like a cow's opinion, worthless) because obviously I don't want to lose either of them, but I think if we were to sell Kane, we wouldn't be able to sign someone as good to replace him, but we'd probably be able to improve the squad elsewhere and potentially still be competitive. I can't see any way we lose Pochettino and go anywhere but down.

I can't see any way we lose Pochettino and go anywhere but down.
You're doing your players a big disservice. You were shoe-ins for 5th because for the most part you had the 5th best squad. Twice you finished 4th when someone else fucked up (2010 Liverpool had fallen and City were one year before taking off, and 2012 Liverpool were still shit and Chelsea had one of their implosion years). Now you have a top four squad and are finishing accordingly. Your argument only carries weight if Poch had taken basically the same players and starting piling up 10 points a season more but that hasn't happened, overall points-wise there's only a relatively small increase. To say he's spent nothing is misleading, you shipped out a wedge of squad players who weren't good enough to be top 4 for a bunch of cash and wisely reinvested it to build a better team, and have since overtaken United and Arsenal. That's the bottom line, you're top four because Arsenal are unwilling to shell out enough to catch up and United are shitting the bed. As soon as that changes (assuming Liverpool/Chelsea don't balls up too) you'll be back to 5th, Poch or no Poch. You'd have been in this spot before now but unlike the last 5 years, in the past your best players (Carrick, Keane, Berbatov, Modric, Bale..) tended to get vultured too quickly.

People (including me) said this same shit about Wenger for years and first year up, they're in more or less the same spot. Managers get way too much credit for stuff which is well outside their control.
