"How does he/she keep getting work?!" - Actors/Actresses who should not have a career

I was watching TV just there and the intro mentioned a comedy classic with Bill Murray and the wretched Andi Macdowell...obviously Groundhog Day.
I absolutely hate Andi Macdowell to the point of seriously questioning how the hell she was given any sort of role beyond that of an extra.
It goes beyond the pale that she was allowed near Murray and Keaton...there are probably others.

There must be something specific (it's her teeth and her wooden acting) that people genuinely dislike about their contributions to this thread and a wee description as to why it affects you and then suggest the films this person has fucked up for you.

    I begin with Andi Macdowell.
Her sins? Wooden acting, a self satisfied look about her that is entirely unjustified and the appearance that she has too many teeth in her mouth, specifically the top row.
Films she has impacted upon negatively:

    Groundhog Day
    Multiplicity
    4 Weddings and a Funeral

I will return with more examples of bastards that don't deserve the crust they "earn".

Im shocked a thread like this was started and Kristen Stewart wasn't mentioned. Maybe Runaways was her only good acting role.

While Kristen Stewart isn't a good actress, she has a large fan base because of Twilight. Why does she get cast? She brings in more money than any other actress her age, aside from Jennifer Lawrence.

I've heard Stewart was good in "Still Alice." Haven't seen it so I can't speak for it.

Really...Andi Macdowell. That wouldn't even come close to my list. At this point, the dude playing Moriarty on Sherlock is high on my list. Last season was fantastic without him. The fact he could ruin a Bond film doesn't help either. Speaking of Bond, George Lazenby. Not much of a career, but man did he kill one of the best Bonds of all time.

Is Kristen Stewart that bad really? I've only seen her in a film alongside James Gandolfini and I thought she was ok in that. She is supposedly quiet good in "Still Alice" as well as The Law mentioned.

I don't mind Kristen Stewart, she was decent in Panic Room.

I'm really starting to hate Bitsie Tulloch from Grimm too, that woman is just absolutely shite.
That face that looks as if someone just slapped her and she doesn't know why but that immediately transforms into some sort of arrogance that I cannot fully pinpoint. People as shite as her and Andi Macdowall need run over with big heavy cars.

    Two things:

    1. You were the first to reply so you might want to wait until several have replied before you go taking surprise at unmentioned names.
    2. Andi Macdowell is easily the worst actress on the screen whenever she appears.

Kristen Stewart was excellent in Adventureland. Also I love her. I think I am actually in love with her, although I have never seen Twilight.

I really enjoyed it. It is one of those rare movies that has a MUCH higher critic score than audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Its too bad Jesse Eisenberg became a bit of a cunt. His first few films were great. Squid and the Whale was brilliant.

    Jai Courtney.

No charisma at all... wooden actor... presents nothing special to any role he's had. To me he's like a watered down Sam Worthington, who was a watered down version of somebody else before him. He's generic, boring, and ultimately replaceable. Why he's Kyle Reese I'll never know.

Is it really Andi? Always thought it was Andie. My whole life is now ruined.

I don't know about actors and actresses, but there are a couple of directors:

    M. Night Shamalayn
    Wachowski Brother/Sister

Actually I do have an actor:

    Shawn Wayans

I enjoyed him as Varro in Spartacus Blood and Sand but I completely agree with the watered down Sam Worthington comment, that is pretty spot on.

Julia Stiles is another one I pretty much have no time for. I really don't understand how anyone could consider her either talented or beautiful.
I would but only from behind because roasting a waif like that would see me sent to Hell for pleasure I would take in her tears.

Shia LaBeouf shouldn't have a career. Not just because he's not that talented, he says "nonononono" way too much, and he plagiarized that short film, but because he is an actual cannibal serial killer...

Shia Labeouf is a superb choice and belongs in here absolutely.

Multiple time plagiarist, supposed performance artist and all round complete and utter talentless cunt.
Women and very stupid men are to blame for his fame for only someone who finds him attractive could possibly forgive such monumental stupidity and arrogance.

    Vince Vaughn for mine.

Stewart is supposed to be lifeless and non-descript in the Twilight movies so girls can easily place themselves in her character's role when making a mess of themselves.

I will say I thought Shai and Megan Fox hold the first Transformers film together. After that...holy shit, both of them went to shit. All the Smith kids and maybe even their Dad. Which at one point in time was unimaginable. Jada is getting better in Gotham if you can believe that.

Jada sucks in Gotham, she's not even acting. She really thinks she's better than everyone but I'm not fooled I remember those Godawful black "culture" films she was in. Pffft Foxxy Brown was in one of them

I don't get it, David Spade is a successful comic actor who has had a long career. X Pac doesn't equate to that at all.

Great shout Rip, I was thinking that the other night at work. I think he is one purely for the ladies.

The woman that plays Skyler in Breaking Bad is just awful too. I hated every unbearable moment of her screentime. The same can be said for the actress that played Gretchen. Really piss poor casting.

Im starting to think David Duchovny would have struggled if he wasn't a good looking bloke. Not much range there.

Roger Moore is one I am amazed did as well as he did. I don't get the appeal really, not that I hate him by any means....

Ben Affleck I feel similarly about...I just don't get it.

Gosling and Gylenhaal get passss for recent work. I was under exposed by choice until recently.
Only God Forgives...I mean where the heck did that come from? Immense.

Jennifer Aniston. She can't act and every single thing I have seen her in she's taken away from it. I don't get the fascination with her on all levels: calling her fashionable, sexy, etc.

Cruise had a few great movies early in his career. Magnolia, The Last Samurai, Eyes Wide Shut and the first couple of Mission Impossible films all ranged from decent to great. Most of his recent work has been garbage but Edge of Tomorrow was decent enough.

I also agree with Skylar from Breaking Bad. Of course, you hate all women if say that out loud. Love Kim on Saul though. Roger Moore's Bond is the second worst Bond of all time.

If you dislike Gosling, wait until you see this shlock. He directed a movie and word going around is people were booing this at Sundance. SUNDANCE, the place where the people would applaud an empty can of soup. Hilariously bad stuff.

John and Joan Cusack...now there's a pair of awful shits. Joan I give a bit of leeway to for The Adams Family but John Cusack is far and away the worst memory I have of the High School years. So many bad films that would have lived well without him. The voice...like he always has dry spitbut at the same time a really wet nasal cold.
    God I hate that fellow.

Admittedly when I first heard of David Spade (which was about when Tommy Boy was released), I thought he was Dana Carvey's annoying cousin.

David Spade is almost as good at playing slimeball characters as Jon Lovitz, though nowhere near as talented.

Jon Lovitz has a tremendous voice. Loved The Critic back in the day, show was way ahead of its time.

Kevin Hart WAS funny in Scary Movie 3, but that's more due to the chemistry between him and Anthony Anderson. Anything else I've seen hasn't been good.

Rebel Wilson greatly annoys me. I have no idea how she gets roles, outside of maybe calling her up for roles that Melissa McCarthy turned down. (Not that I think Melissa McCarthy is any good either, but she's seemingly the more marketable of the two when it comes to hiring fat actresses.)

I find it hilarious that each time there's some sort of Full House reunion, the Olsen Twins act like they're too good to hang out with the rest of the cast. Hell, even the Golden Retriever on that show was more talented than the two of them put together.

Nickelodeon used to show that sitcom they were in "Two of a Kind" Can see why it only lasted one season. Its only redeeming factor was the actress playing the babysitter was kinda hot.

I like John Cusack. He does a lot of crapy, but every now and again, he does something pretty cool. Most of his crap has nothing to do with him though, but it's the movie itself.

Tom Cruise is nuts, and I really don't like him, but he's a pretty good actor. I really enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. I can't really say I've absolutely hated any of his performances, just the movie in general.

For me, it's Adam Sandler. At one time, he was one of my favorites, but in the last 5-6 years, he hasn't done one good movie. And his latest, The Cobbler, doesn't look any better either.

Not sure if this thread is supposed to be about Hollywood's flavor of the month types who have gotten a lot of work and shouldn't or the has beens of yesteryear that we're supposed to argue how they lasted as long as they did. I will just assume both.

    Katie Holmes
    Steven Seagal
    Al Pacino
    Robert Deniro
    David Spade
    Jon Voight

Erm it's neither really mate, it's a thread about actors or actresses you dislike so much that you refuse to watch them or if you are forced into watching they will spoil the film for you.

That is a ludicrously bad list by the way...almost as if you've purposefully chosen well respected and decorated actors just to get a reaction.

Emma Stone, Billy Crystal, Al Pacino, Rober De Niro, Samuel L and George Clooney are just troll bait surely.

I was immature and watched a lot of Nickelodeon shows back then, mostly Kenan and Kel and Are You Afraid of the Dark? Caught this and remembered the babysitter being hot.

Kenan and Kel was ace though, did the Orange Soda routine with Irn Bru all the time!

    You Wildman Badger

That is a ludicrously bad list by the way...almost as if you've purposefully chosen well respected and decorated actors just to get a reaction.

Emma Stone, Billy Crystal, Al Pacino, Rober De Niro, Samuel L and George Clooney are just troll bait surely.
I don't mind giving out reasons.

    Katie Holmes - Very boring
Steven Seagal - One of the worst action stars of any era
Al Pacino - He phoned it in post Heat
    Robert Deniro - See above
David Spade - Farley used to prop him up so much, I miss that guy
Jon Voight - Feels like he's only done slight variations of the same role
Daniel Craig - The worst Bond, while more gritty, he's too wooden
Courtney Cox - No idea how she still gets work, Scream hasn't been a real trendy thing since the late 90s
    Steve Martin - Boring
Billy Crystal - Absolutely loved him in City Slickers 1/2, but anything else I've seen him just bores me
Emma Stone -Probably the most talented person from Super Bad, but she's also boring, minus the spectacular Zombieland
    Seth Rogen - A prick
Jonah Hill - To be fair, this is more of a coin toss, I find him annoying in a good and bad way
Jason Biggs - The pie guy
Emilio Estevez - Should've just taken up the offer with Joshua Jackson to do D4 The Mighty Ducks as Bombay again, look at him now
Charlie Sheen - Imagine someone else in the role of Taylor in Platoon
Sigourney Weaver - Alien queen and really not much more than that
Keanu Reeves - Mr. Anderson and what else? Bill and Ted is bleh
Samuel L Jackson - Done about 5000 roles of the same kind of character
    Matt Damon - Wooden
George Clooney - A badass in From Dusk Till Dawn and serviceable in Three Kings, everything else is bleh

I think if I'm being specific the problem I have is that he took on minimalist scripts and overused his (innovative I'll give you that) special effects and visuals, he was obsessed with the look of the film but didn't give any real substance behind the appearance from what I can tell. Even in scripts that could have been great he manages to fuck them up with overuse of bizarre imagery and strange camera work.
On one hand you get all the beauty of 2001: A Space Odyssey with a complete absence of gripping dialogue or transpiring events (I could leave the room for 5 minutes at a time at crucial parts of that film, return and be no worse off than I had if I'd stayed...that's how slowly it moves) and on the other you have an utterly wonderful story in Clockwork Orange yet that has crappy camera work and awful direction, at times as if operated by a drunken man on a mechanical bull.

I honestly forgot he did Dr Strangelove so I'll give him that and Spartacus, also his Lolita wasn't half bad either but notice those are all in the first half of the 60's and they run consecutively in his filmography.

I wonder who got to him after that....I'm tempted to blame Arthur C Clarke.

We should really take Redpaths opinion with a grain of salt at this point.

Those aren't good reasons at all, they're incredibly lazy and "boring" seems to be a common theme.

Also I have imagined someone other than Charlie Sheen in Platoon...it wasn't good.
Imagine trying to take away Charlie Sheen's masterpiece, the one film he really pulled it out of his ass and acted his chops off.
    Poor form man.

Oh come the fuck on how did I forget Kubrick did Full Metal Jacket?!

Right I'm taking it back, I don't hate Kubrick apparently.
I just really really really fucking hate 2001, The Shining and am thoroughly annoyed about how badly Clockwork Orange turned out despite having the potential to be great.

And Monuments Men is alot better than I expected.

Honestly I find Clooney pretty watchable, he has a comfortable easy charm that harks back to the leading men of yesteryear.

I'll admit, I mostly enjoy A Clockwork Orange because of the soundtrack. Same with 2001. The Shining because it has some genuinely creepy moments.

Penelope Cruz and Ewan MacGregor are both shit too.

Both of them would be better off strung up by the arms and legs and operated ala oldschool marionette puppets.

I honestly fucking hate Clooney with a passion. He just uses the same facial expressions to convey every emotion and just constantly looks like a smug prick while on screen. I honestly don't get how anyone thinks he's a good actor.

I could honestly just replace Clooney with Cusack there and agree with you 100%.
Weird because women love them both but I've heard more women slag George off than John and I definitely like George Clooney as an actor. He was in Roseanne with a mullet for crying out loud...he earned his fame the hard way. Probably had to chuck it up Roseanne Barr at least once. Ugh.

Hurley are you sure about Nicolas Cage because I understand he has done some utterly unforgivable crap but for every bad film he does he tends to redeem himself with a rather tremendous performance almost immediately after.

There's a graph somewhere that explains it.

    edit:

Penelope Cruz keeps getting work because she is ridiculously good looking and will always get her jebs out.

Ewan MacGregor is pretty hamtastic and punchable. I don't understand why Hayden Christiansen gets a hard time for the Star Wars prequels when everyone completely stinks in them.

lol. The first movie I ever saw of his was From Dusk Till Dawn and I shit you not, including ER, he plays the same exact character in every movie. Not saying he's horrible, I like a few of his movies, but seriously he has the same delivery, same facial expressions. But really that's a lot of actors I guess when I think about it. They all have their own way of doing things, their trademark, and a lot of times they get shit on for stepping out of their comfort zone. I guess it just depends on the movie, but for George, every movie I see him in it's that Seth Gecko character screaming at me, whether it's a serious war movie, a romance, something meaningless.....

Some of the people in this thread don't make sense. Shelly Duvall didn't keep getting work. Courtney Cox didn't keep getting work.
