The Two Face sequence of TDK really had me squirming in my seat in the cinema and on repeat viewings, it's just such a hodge podge set up for the last film and requires so much more suspension of disbelief than the rest of the franchise until that point, it was a complete step change and soured things for me. But I've said this, and been heavily criticised on here as a result, before. Maggie Gyllenhal really plodded through the film looking like she'd just woken up from a heroin binge as well.

I agree with the Two-Face point pretty much 100%.

I too found the Harvey Dent storyline developed way too suddenly and way too vehemently to hold much water and yeah I sat there in the cinema thinking "huh...that was quick, brutal and the explanation for this behaviour bothers me".
Maggie was ok I thought. I used to not rate her but I thought she salvaged the mess that Holmes departure caused pretty well.
I also have a bit of an odd crush on her these days so maybe I overlook some stuff.

Should change gears and talk about the good actors/actresses who never get legitimate work these days, for whatever reason. You may say cuz suck, but who knows really.

Joe Pesci - Is old, but his intensity, his eyes, etc reminds me a lot of Frank Vincent. It also doesn't help that him and Scorsese had it out after Casino. That's a death sentence in Hollywood
Christopher Lloyd - Is old, but the guy has so much energy, he can play anybody. However, he was also never mistaken to have the 'look' needed
Arnold - We all know his story. From his bodybuilding days, to his iconic action hero bits of the 80s/early 90s, to his soundboard being used to terrorize people. Unfortunately they replaced him with Vin and Dwayne. Neither as believable as Arnold was in his heyday
Chris Farley - We all know his story. Unfortunately he never got a real chance to be a big deal
John Candy - Even though Jimmy Gandolfini made a great Tony Soprano. Just imagine a seasoned John Candy in that role? Another guy gone too soon
Marisa Tomei - By the time people considered her a star. She had gotten too old for the 'look'. But she's still better than a lot of stars today
Tom Berenger - This guy could play anybody. Unfortunately somewhere along the line, he decided to settle for garbage roles
Linda Hamilton - A pioneer in the business. Proof of that is the first two Terminator films. In one, she's a weakling fighting for her life. In the other, she's a trained, obsessed killer biting her time. Unfortunately she wasn't really that pretty and I fear that's half the battle for women in that business, so it kept her from getting even better roles
Daniel Stern - Great actor, but he never really got his fair share either
Whoopi Goldberg - All she needs is Ghost
Jennifer Carpenter - Another actress with great energy, but she won't ever amount to much in the mainstream outlets. Dexter is as far as it goes
Michael C. Hall - Like Jennifer, it may take him a long time to shake the Dexter role in order to get even better work
Lance Henriksen -Another guy who can do anything but is now old and has to rely on past work to get work

why should we change the gears of this thread to talk about the exact opposite of what the thread's subject is?

Having checked his filmography it seems he has done about 4 real acting parts over the last 4 years.
Those acting parts are in films with extremely limited exposure and are definitely niche market brands.
All that said The Miz doesn't really count.
    t
Personally I always had a problem with Elijah Wood but he seems to have disappeared from the spotlight lately.
I liked him in The Faculty and a couple other things but he got waaaay too big. I never understood it. Maybe he'll do a Ron Howard and get cool later on.

Diaz is such a mixed bag. When I first saw her in the mask I was honestly in love with her. So charming, so charismatic and beautiful. After Something About Mary I though she was shit. Watched Sex Tape with her and Jason Siegal (love him) and it made her tolerable again to me. no complaints with her performance and she looked tremendous in it.

Jim Carrey unfortunately. I feel he has lost his comic touch. A bit sad that he has apparently refused to do anything but comedy anymore.

Vince Vaughn is definitely one who has "fallen from grace" so to speak. Years of playing the exact same character with the exact same mannerisms in each of his films has caught up to him I suppose. Although that never seemed to affect Denzel negatively.

Also Beer-Belly, I'm with Fanny. The ending to TDK was terrible and forced. It didn't get any better imo as TDKR almost had me napping by the end. Just a shit movie the third was.

TDK was massively over-rated and I'm not going to delve into why again. Batman Begins was my favorite of the trilogy.

I was on the edge of my seat from slipping off.

Not a bad film but Joker got lionised, the whole sonar thing was rubbish, the whole scene with the boat and the bombs was too much, the whole two-face turn shouldn't have happened.

The Joker didn't get lionised. He was a self-centered bully and he failed.

The sonar thing showed how big of an an asshole Batman had become.

The boat sequence was maybe one set piece too many. It still worked.

The Two Face turn was great because they pulled the trigger. Harvey Dent had the arc of the movie.

Disagree 100%, he most certainly was lionised. He was the main character in a Batman movie, over Batman.

Cant agree with that at all.

Do agree that Nolan lost it a bit with the Batman trilogy. Batman Begins was the best by a mile, Dark Knight was like a totally separate film and it WAS like the Joker show, Batman got completely marginalised in it and Dark Knight Rises was a bit of a mess. They were ALL enjoyable films though, despite the problems I might have had with them at the time.

I thought I was the only one who felt that way. But yeah, Batman Begins was the best and I was interested in the direction Nolan would take afterwards... unfortunately TDK lost all of that originality and was typical Batman fare that we had seen our whole lives. And it could have existed entirely on it's own without BB or TDKR, which isn't what I was hoping for the trilogy after being so impressed with the first film.

Hammer is right about the Joker in TDK. Still better than the Joker portrayal in Burton's Batman, though.

Also, the boat sequence didn't work. It was completely unnecessary and fairly boring, as well. I also disagree that Harvey Dent had the arc of the movie. The birth of Two Face was well done and fit nicely in the context of the overall story Nolan was trying to tell. All the stuff after the birth of Two Face felt rushed and generic.

TDK is still a very good movie, but it's easier to see its faults now, as opposed to when it came out and everyone was jerking off over it.

The Dark Knight is as much about the Joker as Silence of the Lambs is about Hannibal Lecter. They both play integral roles, but the films aren't "about" them.

Out of the major characters, Harvey Dent goes through the most change. I don't really think that's debatable.

So what? Just because Dent goes through the most change doesn't mean it was well executed.

I'm saying he had the arc of the movie. Whether it was well executed or not is debatable.

I loved the boat sequence in TDK. It's a comic book movie, of course there will be an overly dramatic moral choice thrown at us, and of course the result will be 'the city' rising up and collectively doing the right thing to undermine the villain's jaded philosophy.

The Dark Knight was always and still is an incredible action/crime movie. Perfect, no, but Ledger's performance as joker is one for the history books and I loved Dent's arc and the boat sequence was actually great. The sonar thing was unnecessary and convoluted but that's about my only criticism.

I don't see why it's bad that the film was more "about" the Joker. Batman Begins was about Batman and if all 3 of the films were about him they would probably be boring as fuck. This was the middle movie where Batman was not in his origin nor in his exit so he was just Batman in his prime and that's fine that he didn't have an arc of his own.

The Meg wasn't bad but I wouldn't say it was dope. Should have been a lot better but it's one of those 'the book is always better' cases for me.

But I do like Statham, terrible accent or not.

Whoever said Ashton Kutcher was on the money. Absolute smug prick of a human being with no talent to back it up.

Haha there's certainly enough source material for it. I think the last book was #5 and it featured a 100 ft long 200,000 pound monster that escaped from an ocean below the Pacific. Bonkers and crazy and lots of fun but probably wouldn't translate to the screen very well

He's good at playing Kelso. He does come off as a smug prick though so it was funny to watch him absolutely bomb when they started putting him in real movies.

That one with Costner, God he was so fucking bad in it. I don't remember it much but I know there were scenes where I was amazed that it was the best take he gave them. I think he even gave a few lines while looking dead into the camera.

Natalie Portman is a talentless hack whose best film was done when she was nine years old. Her Thor film is going to tank.

If I was Ashton Kutcher I'd be pumped to play the role of Mr. Mila Kunis the rest of my life.
