Pretty slick move from Chip Kelly. Signing McCoy would have meant losing Jeremy Maclin, so this way he keeps Maclin and adds a talented LB to his D on the cheap. Plus I'm pretty sure Chip feels like RB is kind of plug-n-play in his offense. We shall see.

Fucking extra bummer though as I was hoping for an outside chance at making a run at Maclin to replace Andre. Ugh.

McCoy is already signed. He has cap hits of $10.2, 7.1 and 7.8 million in the next 3 years (the last 2 non guaranteed). Considering he's only 26 years old, anyone would sign him to that in a heartbeat.

Ya, I shouldn't have said signed, that was dumb, just that I had heard rumors of him possibly being cut or traded anyway.

Granted the $10 million next year is a lot, and it's more than Chip Kelly wanted to pay him, but it's not a bad contract at all considering age and track record. Of course it's yet to be seen if there are draft picks moving as well.

I've heard it's just straight up. But really I don't see this move for the Bills. They don't have a QB. They actually were upset to miss out on McCown. That says more about their current state on O.

I think they see there aren't going to be any decent QB's available to them in the draft, free agency or via trade and they are doing this to make up for their offensive deficiency. Rex Ryan has succeeded with running game, defense and a lackluster QB before. That EJ manuel draft pick looks like garbaj. That whole draft had nothing for QBs.

The Bills just found their cheaper option to DeMarco Murray. I was listening to ESPN, and heard that the Bills were seriously looking at him.

Odds are, Baltimore, Cinci, San Diego, and KC will be fighting over the final spots, along with Buffalo, just like this year.

I know but i can dream. Usually i root for the Browns to do well butni really think they flubbed the handeling of this situation with Hoyer and I wish him well.

He had the ACL. Not aware of other injuries. Regardless, with modern medicine, players have come back just fine after an ACL. He was injured in training camp which means he will have that full year recovery. Maclin had his best season after a year recovery from an ACL. I think the injury argument is bullshit if you ask me.

He's had two ACL tears, and surgery to repair his hip before he suffered his second tear.

Well it would seem that the trade was more about dumping McCoy's $10 million for 2015 than getting equal talent back in return, but Kiko seems legit and I agree that he should come back from the ACL tear and be fine. Sure you put injury risk on his valuation but he could be an elite LB making next to nothing. If I were an Eagles fan I'd be upset but I'd also be waiting for the other shoe to drop. If they sign a Suh or Revis or McCourty then you'll say yea it was a good move to free up space.

The Dolphins being the frontrunner for Suh is the new rumor.

How's the Bills o-line? McCoy likes to dance at the line, so it needs to be strong. If Kiko is healthy, it's a good move by Philly. Hopefully Polk gets more of a chance.

I don't think they'll do a division game. Otherwise they would have done Seattle vs SF.

I agree here. This frees up money to get both Maxwell and McCourty or two players at that level. They won't go after Suh due to character issues and Revis because of age. I think Maxwell and McCourty are their two biggest targets.

Also, if they don't sign Maclin for some reason they could go after a guy like Cobb or Crabtree.

Well no shit it turned out better. But going into the season, it was a rematch of the NFC Championship and was the reigning best rivalry in the NFL.

They did the Giants vs Cowboys in 2012 to open the season. Giants Redskins in 2008. Divisional games are on the table.

Also its not like New England has a great home schedule this year outside of the division.

One of the worst in the league, which obviously brings up the question if the cap space would have been better spent invested in the line as opposed to a running back they might not get the best out of. IMO they certainly didn't get the best out of Spiller but that also brings up issues with the play calling. They don't have a first round pick this year either.

Haha. Chip isn't handing out a large contract to any running back let alone after he just actively ditched one.

I really don't like this trade for either team. I'm never in favor of being the buyer on running backs, I just don't see them having a ton of value in the NFL at this point. But it's also tough for the Eagles to trade one of the best backs in the league for a young linebacker coming off an injury. Shedding McCoy's contract could prove to be a great move if he breaks down (as running backs tend to) so I think there's probably more upside for the Eagles on that front.

He is still young. People act like two years as a RB means the end, it really isn't. Same about AP and Revis too, they aren't old really.

Hey if he decides that geno is his bestest buddy he might go out and catch 26 tds this year. Or on the other hand geno might sit in his spot at the lunch table forcing Brandon to run backwards on every snap with his eyes closed and hands behind his back.

I'm really not sad to see him go. He was hurt and fairly ineffective last season, was a total pain in the ass according to reports, and threw Cutler under the bus after the season. He's also 31 and has bad hips. I wish him the best of luck, and I'm glad he's gone. It's definitely a hit to the receiving core, but the draft looks fairly deep with WR and they still have Alshon and Bennett.

The draft is loaded on receivers yes. The bears should be fine without him. And that locker room needs another distraction like I need to remove my face from between Lana's asscheeks.

That is really not true at all. They usually break down after 30-31. I can't think of many running backs that are of McCoys caliber that broke down at 27.

Clinton Portis might have made it to 28. Edgerrin James fell off a cliff at 28 (also coincided with him signing with Arizona). Shaun Alexander won the MVP at 28 and then stunk it up for a few years before retiring.

It's different for everybody, but I think they usually start declining around 27-28. There aren't a ton of guys who had a career year in those years or after. "Decline" doesn't mean they're finished, but for some guys the drop is that steep. Other guys can reinvent themselves or just miraculously keep going (Emmitt Smith continued to be productive into his 30s). Anybody could be the one to defy it, but more likely they're going to be another example of how cruel age is to running backs.

Matt Forte turns 30 this year and had one of the most overall productive seasons last year despite their offense playing like dog shit.

it is possible to get past 27. I think Shady still has some good left, but Buffalo will have to hem that offensive line if they want him to be able to give those years to them.

That's cool to see. There are probably some better statistics than rushing yards to use but it is a good overview.

People get weirdly defensive about this for some reason. McCoy could be a guy who defies the trend, but more likely he's on the way down.

As much as anything I think it points towards cost effectiveness. With the draft pumping out 21-22 year old fresh legs annually that are available for six-figure salaries it's reasonable to see why a team would want to go in a different direction from a 26-27 year old oft-used back staring at an eight-figure cap hit. It's not a perfect science, but there are maths that point to logic and as a coach, especially in a salary cap league, you have to trust what you feel you can develop/scheme efficiently.

As someone who used a top three draft pick on him last year in fantasy I tend to agree with him trending down

As I said before, McCoy likes to dance at the line. Throughout the years, Philly has had one of the best lines in the game. As they fell off, so did Shady. If the Bills line steps up, he'll be fine.

Rumors around ESPN Insider indicate Brady being frustrated with what he deems the 'Florida Marlins' approach to the Patriots offseason thus far. Even with his restructuring of his contract to free up even more money. Franchising Ghost, letting Vince walk and potentially letting Revis/McCourty go to free agency where they will be grossly overpaid or given real market value by a team, where they won't with the Patriots.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/nfl/rumors/

He's frustrated to the point where talks have begun with the 49ers and Texans about 3 team trade of the following...leaving Jimmy G the starter for the Patriots next season and Gronk wanting out as well according to the rumors.

    49ers get

    - Brady
    - Gronk
    - 2017 3rd rounder from the Texans

    Texans get

    - Kaepernick
    - 2017 2nd rounder from the 49ers
    - 2017 4th rounder from the Pats

    Patriots get

    - 2017 1st Rounder and 3rd rounder from the 49ers
    - 2017 1st Rounder from the Texans

Boy I tell ya if that happens. The 49ers win big in the short and long term. They get a good QB for the next 1-3 years and the best TE in the game, if not Top 5 TE without debate. The Texans get a legitimate starting QB with Kaep and some good picks. The Pats get the best picks but clearly put all their eggs into Jimmy G. If he fails, they still have the picks to fall back on in rebuilding mode.

The Eagles are going crazy already. Gore, Maxwell, and Sanchez so far.

What will it take for them to move up and get Mariota? If the Redskins gave up 3 1st rounders to move up 4 spots...

i keep seeing people pushing a trade of foles along with picks to the jets for the #6 spot. it gets the jets a more proven QB plus picks to help keep the rebuild going. but ya gotta think the most glaring need for the jets is a QB, which they could get with mariota. basically comes down to if they think mariota could fit and work in their system.

You also can't count out the Titans taking him at 2. I know they have Mettenberger, but Mariota would be too enticing if I were them.

Maclin to the Chiefs. Eagles are in need of a receiver. I am thinking someone like Crabtree or torey smith would be a must signing at this point

and didn't truly fill those needs.

beyond that, resigning mark fucking sanchez is not a lead in to a DREAM TEAM. they traded away their biggest offensive star for a young defensive player with potential, they signed arguably the biggest corner on the market, which they desperately needed, and filled the hole at RB with a proven name who is going to come in at half of what mccoy was going to cost, which is smart spending, leading into a draft that is filled with RB's. this isn't the same as scooping up a bunch of big name free agents for the sake of it cause you got the money.

You make good points, but whenever the Eagles spend big money on free agents, that's what my first thought will be. Whether it is right or wrong. I'm sure I won't be the only one making those assumptions

Because it happened one time? There have been plenty of other teams that went big in free agency where it didn't work out. I didn't hear any bs about the Broncos making that free agency splash to only lose in their first playoff game.

Vince young makes a stupid comment and that's that I guess

of course you won't be. but it's still dumb. the dream team spending was a near last ditch effort from a head coach who had drifted apart from his team and was starting to feel the pressure. beyond that, fuck vince young.

if the eagles end up signing mccourty and woirlds, plus a name WR like crabtree, hartline or even welker, then things might look more like a 'dream team' load up. but as of now, this is hardly anything, especially when unloading and not resigning the stars they already have.

so how is this a thing that should follow around the eagles when not a single player from that spending spree is still on the team, namely the person who said it, and it's a whole new coaching staff and personnel team?

I'm sure if Vince Young had done anything since that declaration, it would have followed him. Things can haunt fan perception of franchises for years, regardless of coaching changes.

Why? My opinion is my own. Just because you don't agree doesn't make it asinine. Arguing opinions is pointless.

no it isn't. that's the only thing worth arguing, cause you can't argue facts...

your opinion can be your own, but it doesn't mean it can't be dumb or asinine or anything else. starting to think 'OH MAN DREAM TEAM LOL' over these moves shows a distinct lack of depth of thought and cries of 'oh i know how to make references!'

McCourty is apparently staying in New England. Just need to keep Revis now.

I read that too. I also read they need to pay up to 9-10 a year and if they don't then the Eagles or Giants will swoop in

McCourty got 5 years, 47.5 million, 28.5 million guaranteed. Keep Revis and we're probably back in the Super Bowl tbh

Tough to predict another Super Bowl this far out even if they get Revis, but they would definitely be the favorites in the AFC. Interested to see what they do at running back because it doesn't sound like Vereen is coming back, and I don't like the idea of Blount as a feature guy every week.

Texans are working on their own Dream Team and are expected to sign Brian Hoyer.
