The World Cup Final 2014: Germany vs Argentina

So hard to call. Germany are favourites but I still fancy Messi to win it for the Argies.

    Argentina 3-2.

Germany. A great team and it seems a good bunch of lads who play for their team.

I wish Lawrenson would bugger off with the "funnies." Its the World Cup Final, show some decorum you biff.

Is anyone watching ITV? I reckon even the ITV pundits are watching BBC.

Saw on another forum that Sabella looks like the Dungeon Master from Dungeons and Dragons. He really does.

Lawrenson must think he is some kind of national institution with the confidence he has with the constant "witty"remarks. What a cunt.

You lot don't realise the comedy gold you have in Lawro.

I will never forget his "greasy Portuguese" insinuation in one of the last majors. Brilliant.

It had a little bit of everything. Good runs and showings by unfancied nations, some fantastic goals, great games, drama, controversy and big nations imploding. Plus the best team won but it wasnt obvious they would win it at any point. Im gutted its over.

    Wonderful World Cup. Absolutely amazing.

Was really pulling for some crazy shit by Colombia or Costa Rica once they got through to the Quarters and shocking the world with insane Cinderella runs to the end, but alas.

    Really?

The group stages yeah, but I thought the knock out stages were quite poor aside from the Brazil drubbing. Level of punditry as also been shite. Overpaid wasters like Lawro and Shearer need to go

If we could lose Alexi Lalas as a pundit, I wouldn't have a problem with that. And yet somehow he's better than Eric Wynalda.

We need to bring in Brian McBride as a pundit. What a man. What an American.

Tommy Smyth is very entertaining, though. The shit that comes out of his mouth is great.

I thought the knockout stages were excellent. I can't think of a game that I didn't enjoy... even the 1-0 or low scoring draws.

This has been the World Cup of the fantastic nil-nil...in the knockout stages there were four or five great games that had no goals in 90 minutes, including the final.

Think the right team won in the end - Germany weren't perfect, but they had the least weaknesses and had goals coming from all over the pitch.

Agreed that it was a great tournament. Absolutely breathless in the first couple of weeks, loads of fantastic games and incredible moments, a few players emerging as real superstars, Klose breaking the scoring record...brilliant.

My one issue with the final is that, in my head, Gotze hasn't earned the right to score the winner in a World Cup final. Other than shootouts, the goals that have won or effectively won the World Cup in my time watching football have been scored by Iniesta, Ronaldo and Zidane...Gotze is in esteemed company. Hopefully now he can kick on and live up to his potential, and ideally stop looking like a fat toddler while he's at it.

Jesus just rewatching the highlights as last night got a little hazy, Argentina really should have won it. Restricted Germany to a few half-chances and missed two unbelievable chances, plus one that Messi would expect to score 9 times out of 10.

He was just everywhere. Hummels got a lot of praise this tournament but Boateng should get his fair share too.

I thought Biglia was shite too.

That's the story of Germany's tournament for me in a nutshell, they have given chances to most teams they have played but no one was able to put them to bed. They aren't the dominant, suffocating force Spain were but just found a way to win games when their opponents couldn't.

Argentina will be kicking themselves, so many of their attacking players under-performed or looked short of fitness. Messi has looked shattered since the Swiss game, which is no surprise really. Di Maria was a huge miss for the final. In hindsight with the injuries it also seems like a mistake having no Tevez as an option, though he probably wouldn't have been a good sub to have around had Higuain and Aguero been fully fit.

So, not really WC related but Lahm has just announced his retirement from international football.

What a way to go out, eh?

Think they will miss him a great deal. Even at this tournament the lack of width at full back when he was playing in holding midfield made them look half as good as they were when he was at right back.
