    Oh yeah that's right.

The more I think about this plot the more I can't wait.

Can't wait. It looks the least like Fargo of any seasons yet but it looks really good regardless.

I thought it was still a way off. Excited to hear that it's not. Chris Rock, Jason Schwartzmann, Ben Whishaw, Timothy Olyphant, Jack Huston. Also 2000s indie folk singer Andrew Bird and Gomorrah star Salvatore Esposito, more interestingly.

I thought season 3 was a big bag of shit so hopefully this gets things back on track.

First episode of the new season is out. I haven't watched it yet, but I just re-watched season 1 and it's so damn good. I'm sure I gushed about it in this thread back when it was airing but it still holds up as one of the best seasons of television ever made, in my book. I like it more than the movie.

Looking forward to watching the new season with Chris Rock.

I've only watched the first season and I loved it too. I tried to watch the 2nd and couldn't really get into it. I didn't know there was a 3rd until I heard Chris Rock was going to be in the 4th. If it's on Hulu the day after like most FX shows I'll give it a shot.

I've heard this is not a great season. But I'll give it a watch all the same.

Season 1 and 2 were very good. 3 was ok.

I'm 2 episodes into season 4, and yea it's pretty dull. There's a lot going on but none of it is all that interesting, and above all it feels the least like Fargo of any season so far. Stylistically, it feels nothing like the movie. It's more like a mafia story.

It's not awful though. Chris Rock is really good in his role so far. Can't say the same for Jason Schwartzman. I mean I like Schwartzman and he's fine in this but seems an odd fit for the role. Unless I missed something he's supposed to be a true Italian mobster but it's hard for me to not see him as Jewish (it's a bit confusing because there's also a Jewish mafia in the story so idk maybe there's a twist coming where his character is of Jewish origin).

    The nurse character is disturbing.

I'm one episode behind (I just finished episode 7) but I wanted to say the show has picked up. I thought the last 3 (episodes 5 through 7) started to get really intriguing as the war between families has escalated, after a fairly dull first 4 episodes. Chris Rock is still doing great - in fact I think he should get a nod for best actor in a drama. He probably shouldn't win but it's a nomination worthy performance. I'm not sure how it compares to season 3 - it's such a different tone that it's hard to compare - but I'd say it's of similar quality with a chance to be better if the final 4 episodes keep on this trajectory. Although it's still very un-Fargo, I now see the appeal in switching it up after a fairly uninspired season 3. For better or worse this is more fresh and Noah Hawley is still a great writer.

Anyway I will maybe post some more thoughts on the actual plot if/when I catch up to the present.

I caught up. This show is great and I can't wait for the final 3 episodes.

Spoilers of season 4 episode 8:

With 3 episodes still to go, I'm feeling that I like season 4 more than season 3.

Season 3 held onto the Fargo style but was just okay, like you said. Season 4 is very different. It is more like a new show. And while it started out slow (I was not feeling it all that much through 4 episodes), it started to get good around episode 5 and I'm now very into it.

the finale was not one of the stronger episodes of the season, in my view, which was disappointing. I didn't love the ending for various characters. still, a pretty good season. episodes 5 through 10 made it worth the watch. at its best it was a great and epic mafia tale. at its worst it was dull and a little meandering.

    • chris rock GREAT (though some fans may disagree)
    • Jessie Buckley as Oraetta Mayflower GREAT
    • Jason Schwartzman as Josto Fadda, grew on me with time once I got over the fact that this short jewish guy is playing the lead Italian gangster. pretty good role for him tbh regardless of my casual racism.
    • no one else really jumped off the screen. Tim Olyphant was his normal cool self but it wasn't that noteworthy. the little black girl was good but I was a little disappointed she didn't get more shine in the finale.

I would need to re-watch season 3 to tell you which I prefer but my broad strokes scores would be:

    season 1: 10/10
    season 2: 10/10
    season 3: 7/10
    season 4: 7/10

Jon Hamm, Juno Temple, Jennifer Jason Leigh to lead ‘Fargo’ Season 5. Cool... good cast. This show doesn't have a ton of juice anymore but I'm sure I'll still watch.
