My DVR screwed up and I missed the last episode, so I'll catch it next week. So far I really love the story and I think it's more engrossing than season one's. But I'm not hooked on the characters as much as I was last year. Not yet, anyway.

I'm sure it's On Demand on whatever your On Demand channel that has FX on it is.

Patrick Wilson is so delightful in this, a real scene stealer. I see an Emmy in his future.

And I liked the season 1 callback to him sitting outside the house with a shotgun.

Damn, the latest episode was the best one yet. Nick Offerman stole the show. I love him.

I'm loving this still. Kirsten Dunst's character drives me loopy though.

I could rant and rave about this show every week. I honestly think this has a strong case for being the finest season of television ever produced. Every episode is written and shot like an Oscar-worthy individual film and delivers that level of quality. The directing and editing are outstanding, even the way they drop in the FARGO is always awesomely cinematic. This is better all around than season 1 which is insane because season 1 was the shit. If the Coen Brothers wrote and directed this themselves I can't imagine it being any better than this.

    As for last night's episode...

Ha, that's awesome, forgot there was a thread for this. Fargo has been nothing short of spectacular this season.
They got renewed for a 3rd season too.

I'm not a thousand percent sure but I'm pretty comfortable assuming so given the way the scene went.

This show is easily the best thing on TV right now, the last two episodes were intense as hell and superbly written, directed, acted, the whole shebang. Really cn't wait for the next one and I probably haven't felt that way about a program since Breaking Bad.

Was really hoping to see Kirsten Dunst get her tiny brains blown out. Starting to fear she's going to wind up being some weird sort of hero.

I figure there's no way Dodd, Hanzee, Peggy, & Ed survive. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike, Hank, & Bear eat it too.

Really great episode, I like that its all now tying in with the first series and they are hinting at something catastrophic happening. Not that there hasn't already but something on another level.

The hangman in the phone booth was pretty much an order from the director to look further into it and in doing so it makes the season even better. I obviously knew the main character (sort of) in this was in season one but I didn't click the dopey cop was the lieutenant and the first season gives you a call back to this one in him.

The character work is brilliant in this and grows with each episode, Hanzee is such a great character who at this point I'm not sure what his true motive is - is he just a psychopath or is he just making his own play for power, is their more too him thats going to be revealed - the war vet line suggests so.

There hasn't been a bad episode thus far and I'm looking forward to seeing the final two play out - considering everyone is heading to the same place then I guess shit is gonna hit the fan but I've gotta feeling they will try and slow it down next week to lead to the finale.

This show, man. Unreal. The dark comedy of Dodd in the cabin with Peggy and Ed was brilliant. "Hun you gotta stop stabbin' him."

It said Sioux Falls - just type it with Fargo on the end into google and it'll catch you up - no spoilers btw it just fills you in on how that event is somehow gonna link season 1 & 2 and probably 3 together. I thought they were pretty much completely different stories but apparently all the seasons will link including the film.

Oh I know about the Sioux Falls connection but I'm not sure which character you're referring to when you said the dopey cop. Was the dopey cop from season 2 (the one Lou called out for being a bad cop, who knew the Gerhadts) in season 1 or something? If so I did not catch that.

Edit: or do you just mean the dopey cop in Season 2 is the same character-type as Bob Odenkirk in season 1? I would agree with that. I think the Coen brothers have a lot of these repeating character types (the mute or near-mute psychopath killer being the most obvious example) and the show follows suit.

The one he calls a bad cop is in season one. Hes the fat grey haired leuitenant whose on the bog when the cop tells him about Malvo.

Ah okay. I don't remember that scene from season 1. I'm definitely going to do a re-watch of season 1 after season 2 concludes.

I think hes the one who first brought up Sioux Falls - said something like 'this is just like Sioux Falls goddamnit'.

Maybes it mentioned in the film, I didnt do a rewatch before starting the season and I aint rewatched season 1 before this one. You know a series is doing a good job though when you feel you wanna rewatch through to start putting it all together.

I posted this in the youtube thread but I think you lads will truly appreciate Nick Offerman sitting quietly by a fire for 45 minutes while occasionally sipping whiskey.

Intense. That's how I'd describe this episode.

And when that "thing" showed up... I was perfectly fine with it. Was like... ok, fine.

I don't actually want any type of payoff on the UFO. It's better as an ass odd random element. It fits without fitting at all you know?

Yeah I don't know what the fuck the UFO is about. Took me out of everything.

Where else in the show did a UFO show up or get referenced?

Aliens/UFOs have also been subtly referenced in just about every episode in some small way. Judas, not sure how you forgot about the UFO appearance in episode 1. That basically set the entire course of events of the season in motion (at least for the Blumquists) and it was the #1 thing people talked about after the premiere.

I like it personally, I thought it was really cool in the latest episode and I expect there'll be a pay off of some extent in the finale. Theoretically, if the Blumquists and Hanzee die, Lou will be the only surviving witness of the UFO at the motel. The whole season could have been done without the alien aspect for sure but I think it's been cool and bold and fun. I'd love to see that first meeting where the show runner threw out the idea of including aliens in Fargo.

I don't remember it in the first episode. I remember asking someone to explain what they were talking about in here but no one bothered.

After Rye did what he did in the waffle hut, he went outside and a UFO (you could only see the lights) appeared in the sky above him. As he looked up in wonder at what it was, he was struck by a car. The UFO then darted off into the sky quickly. I believe the credits rolled right after that iirc.

Ah yes. At the time I put it down to his imagination so didn't think much of it.

So, I was pretty happy with the ending, even if it was slow and rather uneventful.

I haven't seen the first season so the ending for Hanzie... did that mean anything?

Mike ended up in his own personal hell it would seem.

    Did any side really win?

Hanzie basically becomes the mob boss from season one - Moses Tripoli after reconstructive surgery. As he said he would start his own empire and as the other fellow said, it would drown on the sea.

Yeah and he uses the same "kill or be killed" line. From what I read, the two kids he saves end up being Numbers and Wrench in season 1.

I thought it was pretty obvious the kids doing sign language were the duo from season 1 but the Hanzee thing, I need to re-watch season 1 to get a feel for how much I like that twist. Seems a little forced.

The finale was good but felt a bit underwhelming and there weren't any WOW moments. Awesome season overall though.

I didn't pick that part up either until I read about it and then watched that part in season 1 again. Basically Lorne Malvo ends up killing Hanzee. I wouldn't say it's forced because Hanzee wanted to get a new identity and look different, he had the scar on his face from being burned(hence the surgery) and wanted to get back at Kansas City.

I don't really understand why he wants vengeance on Kansas City when he himself orchestrated the downfall of the Gerhardt family. Certainly KC did their part as well but it's not like Hanzee loved the Gerhardts. How did KC even wrong Hanzee?

This isn't me saying the ending sucked or anything, just talking through what happened and trying to figure it out.

I wonder if series 3 will show Hanzees transformation and rise to mob boss?.

Its hard to see what they are building to when effectively we know what has happened in series 1 as the ending unless they are going to go somewhere with the aliens.

Yeah Season 3 takes place after season 1. I wouldn't mind if Season 4 ends up taking place after season 2 and before 1 or before season 2.

Anybody else notice how the dialogue that Betsy was delivering when describing her dream was straight out of the Nick Cage narration from the end of Raising Arizona?

I didn't notice that (only seen Raising Arizone once and don't remember it that well) but they clearly paid homage to many a Coen Brothers film this season.

I re-watched season 1 right after season 2 ended. Wonderful re-watch and I'm really not sure which season I prefer. I probably would lean season 2 but the finale wasn't quite as good as the rest of the season, it was more like a long epilogue of sorts with episode 9 being the climax. Both are 10/10 seasons to me. The way they alluded to the Sioux Falls massacre in season 1 and played it out in season 2 was excellent. I didn't realize until my S1 re-watch that these two people are the same:

I think someone mentioned this connection in the thread but I didn't realize they were one and the same. That was well done. My one complaint is the Hanzee ending which doesn't sit that well with me. It was unnecessary to link him back to season 1 when we already had all the connection we needed via the Solversons and the above pictured guy, and him killing the Gerhardts just to start his own gang of white people who all then get killed by Malvo seemingly quite easily.... I mean c'mon, Hanzee vs Malvo should have been an epic fight not a massacre even if he Hanzee was in his 60s then. And his catch phrase -"Not apprehend. Dead. Head in a bag. That's the message" - was kinda a weird thing to repeat 30 years later. Also I still don't know why he even needed revenge on Kansas City so the line doesn't quite land for me in S2. ANYWAY that's my one gripe on an otherwise perfect 2 seasons, and it's not the worst twist ever I just didn't need it.

    Season 3 casting news:

Ewan McGregor is the latest feature actor to topline an installment of FX’s Emmy-winning anthology series Fargo. McGregor will play the two central characters — brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy — in the upcoming third season, which is supposed to be set closer to present day than the first two installments. Emmit Stussy is the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, Emmit sees himself as an American success story. His slightly younger brother, Ray Stussy, on the other hand is more of a cautionary tale. Balding, pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, Ray has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt, and he blames his brother, Emmit, for his misfortunes.

Interesting that McGregor is playing 2 brothers who aren't twins- that's unusual. I love him though and this seems like a great work of casting. Spring 2017 though

Big fan of the casting. I wish the next season was coming sooner but this show might be my favorite thing going, so they could wait til Fall 2018 for all I care if they need the time to make another fantastic season.

great bit of casting. so glad to see McGregor back on the scene after what seemed like forever out of the spotlight. He was great in Miles Ahead and Our Kind of Traitor. Looking forward to seeing him get his teeth into this.

I normally dislike most films McGregor is in but hes a good actor when cast right. I have faith he'll be cast well in this though.

Shit. I look forward to seeing what McGregor can do for this series... I'm surprised that they managed to land him.

really enjoyed the last two seasons.

though, the alien spacecraft was a little off-putting.

Todd from Breaking Bad was amazing as usual.

    excellent character actor.

He tends to sound like Apu in that one Simpsons episode where Apu is afraid of being deported so he fakes the American accent.

Half the accents sound more Irish or Scot than Midwest. Hopefully this grows on me a little. Not a bad start.

I haven't noticed anything off about the accents. Ewan McGregor is great in both roles already, IMO. Between the brothers and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Nikki the main cast is really strong. The main cop was vanilla in the premiere and I'm not sure she'll live up to Marge Gunderson and Molly Solverson but she seems fine. The scene with Emmit and his right hand man Sy talking to the gangster was pretty great. It wasn't as explosive a premiere as either of the first two seasons but I don't think it needed to be. It was still great. Clicks and buzzers.

Edit: the gangster guy did sound Irish/Scottish but that was clearly intentional- he was supposed to sound foreign. Ewan as Emmit might not be the best upper midwest accent but I seriously love that character.

This season has been very bleak, even by Fargo standards. Very dark and almost depressing. It's still good but it's definitely the third best season so far. That said, last night's episode "Who Rules the Land of Denial?" was fucking INSANE. I loved all of it...

That was up there with the best episodes of the first two seasons.

Series creator on whether this is the final season:

“I wasn’t sure if there would be a second season. I wasn’t sure if there would be a third season. At end of season 1, [FX] said, ‘If you want to leave it there [that would be fine],’” said Hawley. “There’s only a certain amount of storytelling you can tell in that vein. And I love telling stories in this vein, but I don’t have another one yet. So watch the 10th hour [of season 3] because it might be the last.”

“If an idea comes, we will do another one,” he told Variety. “I am certainly aware of the danger of overstaying your welcome or repeating yourself.”

This season is solid but not close to the previous ones.

Last two episodes have been on a different level. Probably still prefer the first two seasons but it's a more than worthy follow up.

I was already enjoying this season, but the past 3 episodes have sky rocketed to awesome levels. That shot of Varga sitting eating his rocky road was... horrifying.

The darkness of most of the season - when the bad guys were dominating and the good guys were powerless - has made the recent Nikki/Mr. Wrench tag-team all the more satisfying as they've turned the tables.

Also, I now have a fear of Cossacks thanks to this season.

I think this should be the end. Was a decent season all in all, but I think it's reached its limit unless they have some amazing idea.

Interesting finale. A lot happened but I didn't find it super compelling. Episodes 8 and 9 were stronger episodes. Visually it was very stunning though, as this show usually is. I liked the final scene - good vs evil, not knowing who was right in the end. Open ended. The scene where Varga and his men were ambushed was pretty tense/cool. The final resolution for Nikki was unfortunately tragic. She never even got to deliver her biblical message in the way she should have. I mean she said it but then was interrupted. In fact, if not for saying that message (as instructed by the man in the bowling alley) she may have gotten out of there before the cop arrived and a couple lives would have been saved. Life is suffering, though. I wanted her to say those words to Varga (or at least Meemo/Yuri) so it was a little disappointing he escaped her wrath, but the final scene with Varga/Gloria was worth it. Emmit's story is probably the most tragic, along with Sy's. Poor Sy. He was mostly innocent in all of this, although he was a bit of an asshat for the way he treated Ray.

Episode 8 will remain my favorite episode of television this year until something tops it (i.e. game of thrones).

Like you said Pabs, I'm fine with them ending it here given that season 3 was a bit less stellar but if they have another good idea, I'll be watching.

    Season 1: 10/10
    Season 2: 10/10
    Season 3: 8/10

Season 3 was literally better than 99% of the stuff on tv this year and will probably rank in my top 5 television seasons this year.

Loved this season, but I'm with the majority consensus on seasons 1 & 2 being excellent and season 3 just being a measly really damn good, lol

Wow, Chris Rock to star in season 4 and it will take place in 1950 Kansas City.

Series EP Warren Littlefield told Deadline back in June that they have a city and year for season 4, and as unveiled today that’s 1950, Kansas City, Missouri. Littlefield also told us that season 4 would go into production during fall 2019. Essentially the locale will serve as the crossroads and collisions of two migrations, Italians coming from Italy and African Americans fleeing the south to escape Jim Crow, both fighting for a piece of the American dream as two controlling crime syndicates. They are at an uneasy peace controlling an alternate economy of exploitation, graft and drugs. To cement their peace, the heads of both families have traded their eldest sons.
    It won't premiere until 2020.

I still haven't seen season 3 yet, but season 4 sounds pretty sweet.

As soon as I heard Kansas City I thought of the mob. The east coast mafia could only go so far West back then before they felt uncomfortably far from their home base. I think that's actually touched on in the movie Casino.

Sounds interesting as fuck. Chris Rock can act fairly well when he isn't way out of his comfort zone. Just sucks we have to wait so long.

Also Kansas City mafia was already a fairly major part of Fargo season 2.
