    The Lego Movie

Just got back from this now. Surprisingly good film, incredibly visually inventive. Decent laugh too.

I thought that really improved it, personally. Gave it an extra dimension.

Same here Mik. By the end too, looking back, it actually fit perfectly well and was kind of a "Duh, makes sense" kind of moment for me.

Absolutely loved it. I dare say it felt like it was made specifically for 30-40 year olds as it was for kids.

I also demand more lego movies that are nothing but gratitutious leveraging of the fact they can have a movie with Ninja Turtles, the Justice League, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars all at the same time.

I wish they'd gotten more of the actual actors portraying some of those characters...with the exception of Batman of course.

Saw this today because nothing else interesting was on and it's too cold to do anything else. It turned out to be a lot of fun, with a great tone. I'm pretty sure TV really is at the Where's My Pants stage now.

Disagree we're in a golden age of tv right now.

Movie is a lot of fun. Similar thoughts to Bert on the end. Didn't think it addded anything

Yeah I could have done without the end to be honest. I get what they were saying but I think I'd have preferred had they continued the straight-forward narrative.

I've had 'Everything is Awesome' in my head since I left the cinema.

I think that the 'end' is more for kids than for the adults.

I've not seen this film yet, but has there ever been a movie where the difference between expectation and outcome has been so marked? I mean this way around, obviously there have been loads of films you expected to be good that were crap...but I think everyone assumed this would be absolute bollocks, nothing more than a cynical brand extension that didn't really make any sense, and yet seemingly it's a lovingly crafted movie that is great fun.

Seen it now and thought it was great. One of my favourites of the year so far.

I'm a bit of a mark for Lego, especially the games, so I expected to enjoy it but didn't think it would be quite as multi-dimensional as it was. Thought the ending was brilliant, personally. No quibbles about the father stuff.

I didn't assume it was going to be shit because I knew who it was made by. Phil Lord and Chris Miller have a great track record. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was a good animated film and 21 Jump Street was a smash success.

Before those previous 2 films came out though there was probably the idea that they wouldn't be great being based off of a children's book and a silly TV show from the 80's.

Went to see this earlier today.

Not as laugh out loud funny as I thought it was going to be, but consistently entertaining and incredibly charming.

Oh, and I agree with Mik, I thought the 'real people' parts actually added to the movie. Gave it an emotional punch it might have otherwise lacked.

LOVED IT. Visually just fantastic, so much to look at and take in, and I loved the stop-motion look as I assumed it would just be smooth CGI animation like in the games. Laughed my ass off. Quite liked the messages and I'm in favor of the reality aspect, I thought that added a nice layer to it. If I had any complaint it was the cliched romance between Emmett and Lucy but I suppose you could chalk that up to the idea that a kid was really running the show (although, if he's creative enough to come up with the rest of the plot, he could seemingly do better with that angle). Overall though, it was absolutely wonderful.
Had the fortunate of the fire alarm going off during the credits so I'm hoping I didn't miss any post-credit scene(s).

Finally watched this out of the Redbox a few days back. Absolutely wonderful. I'm so glad to hear there's a sequel and a Batman spin-off in the works. I love the idea of a stop-motion style film being created digitally, something about it just tickles my fancy. I got a good laugh out of the different LEGO pieces used to create the different environments and items that were used.

To sum it up this movie was just awesome. Everything is awesome.

Should we be concerned that Batman has a "Prom Date Bat" Suit?
It's hung up along with a "Clown Bat", a "Disco Bat", a "Buccaneer Bat", El Murcielago, which is a Mariachi themed batsuit, Batman Beyond, and one simply labelled "Com-Bat"...

It looks like it's going to end up with the Batman, Robin, Batgirl and the Justice League fighting tons of Batman villains...

And by Justice League, I also mean Super Friends...

And by Batman Villains, I also mean really obscure and stupid ones like Condiment King, Orca, Calendar Man, Zebra Man, Kite Man, Mr. Polka Dot, King Tut, The Eraser, Zodiac Master, Crazy Quilt, March Harriet, and Egghead...

Thoroughly enjoyed the Lego Batman movie. I feel it didn't utilize the Lego world as well as TLM did, which was disappointing. Still, the overall story was fun, Robin and Joker were great, and the Scuttler was cool as hell. Some solid jokes in there too. Would highly recommend.

Was it funnier than Batman v. Superman?

I thought it was good. Not close to The Lego Movie but certainly entertaining if you like the style. As far as movies I have to take my seven-year-old to, this is right at the top of the list.

Jokers crew were pretty awesome. They could have used them a little more effectively I thought. Particularly

Is this where I was supposed to post my thoughts on Lego Batman? Or in The Batman Thread? Or in the 2017 movies thread? 'Cuz that's where I put them (the last one). Quick recap: fun stuff, entertaining, deep, gay. Quite liked it.

Should we turn into a catch all thread for the Lego Cinematic Universe? The Lego Ninjago movie is out later this year too and looks pretty awesome going off eh trailer.

LEGO movie 2 only at 97mill worldwide after two weeks. Damn, this sucks. Promotion was pretty terrible for this, so I’m hoping it does well in rentals or streams or something.
