I wonder how many people here have the Network.

    Let's do a poll.

18 years since I’ve seen it, but fuck me, just as good now. The main event of the 7th February 2000 Raw. The 10 man tag. Rock/Foley/Too Cool/Rikishi Vs HHH and The Radicalz. No add breaks, just 10 or so minutes of pure mayhem. And the crowd pops for fucking everything.

Slight botched ending where Foley clearly gets a bit lost, but otherwise awesome. Super hot return of Kane at the end of the show too, to another great crowd reaction. Awesome.

Is that 10-man tag the only time Chris Benoit ever worked with Foley? Because that’s a match I’ve always wanted to see.

Similar match from April 2004: Evolution vs. Chris Benoit, Mick Foley, Shelton Benjamin, and Shawn Michaels. They did these kinds of six and eight man tag matches practically every week in 2004 and they were all awesome.

That was one of the rare upsides of Triple H working hurt around that time. They put together a lot of fun multi-man matches to take the load off of him and we got to see some fun teams and some cool combinations and opponents.

I remember lurking the boards during this time and everybody saying they should've done this match before Wrestlemania 20, where they could've substituted The Rock instead of Shelton Benjamin.

Is WCW Slamboree '99 the worst PPV in company history?

Opens well with the three team tag title match, but fuck me it then dies. Even for WCW, this is bad. Worst part was Piper Vs. Flair for control of the company. Flair wins the match, but then Bischoff comes out. Bischoff hasn't been around for months, has no power, but declares Piper the winner and then fires Flair. For some reason, this isn't questioned by anyone and Piper and Bischoff hug.

Also, the commentators literally laugh their way through the Bigelow/Knobs match. It did suck, but Christ.

Also, the bad language on the show. Scott Steiner kept yelling 'shit' at folk in the crowd and Piper yelled 'fuck' when he was hit with a low blow. There was also Konnan talking about 'tossing salad'.

Wow, this was just bad. And for some reason Kevin Nash won the world title again at the end of the show. Why was Page awarded the title in the first place?

And the hugely hyped battle of the 'franchises' between Sting and Goldberg ended in a dq when Bret wandered in and waffled them both with a chair.

One feature I'd like them to add is when you click on a PPV, it should bring up a list of the matches and you can click which match you want to view on the PPV.

I spent minutes trying to find the heavy breathing Snitsky/Heidenreich promo, and it would have been easier to find with this feature.

Billy Button bought a buttered biscuit. Did Billy Button buy a buttered biscuit? If Billy Button bought a buttered biscuit, Where’s the buttered biscuit Billy Button bought?

Is that the promo where Snitsky complimented Heidenreich's poetry? In turn Heidenreich compliments what Snitsky does to babies? Then they say they'll see each other at Wrestlemania (starting to build to a tag match vs Taker & Kane that never happens)? Literally made me roll with laughter back when it happened.

Betty botter bought some butter but the butter was bitter, so Betty bought better butter to make the bitter butter better.

I thought they had potential as a team if they could keep being as entertaining as that. Too bad we got a foot licker with bad teeth and a LOD reboot instead.

Yes sir. Watching Invasion of The Bodyslammers now. My daughter loves Kamala and she picked that one to see him learn how to bowl with Rev. Slick.

Freddie Blassie on Bloopers, Bleeps and Bodyslams is great. I enjoyed Steve Green losing his hair piece vs Mike Sharp as well.

They use his original one. The 87 theme which you can barely hear if that makes sense? They do not use his most famous WWF one.

Ive just watched WWF Fully Loaded 2000 on the network and ive a random question about the image they use...

Its a picture of Steve Austin who wasn't on the show and underneath the title, the crap shoot?? What's that all about. I assumed that Beniot was on the original image seeing as he was in the main event but he wasn't. It was HHH, The Rock and Undertaker. Any ideas?

Fully Loaded refers to dice that are being used in a high stakes game. Everybody antes up, puts their money in. The "crap shoot" refers to using those dice in a game of chance.

I kept the receipt from the VHS for that PPV for years. It simply said "Fully Loaded Crap" and was too good to part with.

they used to do this a lot back in the day. think there was one with triple h where he wasnt on the show, as well. these images get made months in advance cause they need to be sent out for promotional purposes, and i doubt the creative team and marketing team are talking about future plans for storylines and angles that far out.

Most of them had time relevant posters/dvd/vhs covers when the events aired. The Network seems to go with the initial ones.

The one with Trips holding the sledgehammer was the PPV where Jericho beat Rock and Austin. When the PPV aired it was Angle, Austin, Rock and Jericho on the poster and later dvd/vhs.

The Fully Loaded one was Taker, Trips and Rock.

Amazing PPV, that. Great intergender 6 person opener, HHH/Jericho LMS, 'Taker/Kurt and Rock/Benoit. And if I remember correctly a fun cage match. Val and Rikishi?

Last night after work, i decided to watch Wrestlemania 4. Don't ask why. Its been a while. But has there ever been a worse refereeing decision in history than in this show?

The One Man Gang and Bam Bam Bigelow are fighting and spill to the outside. The continue to fight and the referee starts counting. The Gang slides back into the ring and Bam Bam climbs onto the apron. He's trying to get into the ring but the Gang just blocks him and the exchange punches. The referee is STILL counting. Bam Bam ends up being counted out.
I know he was standing on the apron so he is still outside but, shouldn't the referee just broke it up?? :/

Yeah, you'd think the WWF refs would know §9 page 67 of the WWF rulebook. I expect Jack Tunney to have a long serious talk with the referee in question.

Seriously though, they just needed OMG to advance without having Bigelow take a "real" loss. He was still in line for a major push at this time (that went south shortly after). Had Bigelow won he would have faced Randy Savage in the semi-finals and face/face matches was still pretty much a no-no at this point.

I Remember that. Triple H apparently couldn't heal up in time so things changed and they went with the title unification that Jericho won. I'm thinking there was a promo poster like that with Taker where he didnt make an appearance in the end, but not too sure about it.

Undisputed Jericho got off to such a good start, his feud with Rock was great. Then the NWO came in overshadowing him as did HHH's return and then he was reduced to Stephanie's dogwalker. Such a waste.

WWE will be adding 92 episodes of WWWF All-Star Wrestling to the WWE Network library during the first week of March. They will also be adding episodes of WCW Saturday Night in April, as well as the rest of the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling episodes in May.

Any word on Superstars of Wrestling and Wrestling Challenge? I heard neither are on the Network. Kind of strange since Superstars was the WWF's flagship until Raw came along. I know they don't own the "Superstars of Wrestling" trademark anymore, maybe that has something to do with it. The banner with the name is blurred in all clips these days, maybe they are waiting to add SoW until they can reclaim the trademark and won't have to blur all 116 episodes.

Here's the dude that has owned the Superstars of Wrestling trademark since 1993 and apparently refuse to sell it back:

Man, I'd rather watch current day WWE over Thunder. It was shockingly bad after the first couple of episodes when the stars decided they didn't really want to work twice a week. Thunder is the place to go for the Jerry Flynn vs. Hugh Morrus, Glacier vs. Sick Boy and Ernest Miller vs. Lodi type matches.

I'm sure there are some gems involving the likes of Kidman, Juventud, Finlay etc on there somewhere though.

Yes, I think Fully Loaded was one of the first shows I bought on DVD instead of VHS since I had just bought the PS2 to watch on. Great, great show.

Nope, I remembered wrong, I got the PS2 a little later. SummerSlam '01, Unforgiven '01 and No Mercy '01 was the first ones I got for DVD. Hell of a show though.

    Thunder is dropping tomorrow.

I think there's a trademark issue with "Superstars of Wrestling." Someone else owned it and won a lawsuit against Vince over it. So they changed the name of the show to just "Superstars." I think they have to blur out the banners that say "Superstars of Wrestling" in archival footage like they did with the scratch logo for awhile. And I don't know if they would have to censor the audio of them saying "Superstars of Wrestling" too. So I think that would explain the holdup on Superstars being added, they have a lot of cleanup to do on those shows.

Definitely going to be checking some of those out. That early 90s period of WCW is one I find fascinating and Saturday Night was the A show until Nitro started. They were just stacked with talent: Flair, Steamboat, Austin, Rick Rude, Sting, Vader, Sid, Dustin Rhodes, Ron Simmons, Bobby Eaton...and yet their business was terrible.

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna check it out. The only Saturday Night stuff I've seen is on YouTube. I'm hoping for some solid Hollywood Blondes stuff. I'll revisit the Cactus Jack and Vader stuff as well.

Speaking of a revolving ring, Jeff Hardy said on Table for 3 that one of his dream matches is to wrestling in revolving ring match. I feel that that's a thing that could happen in the Woken universe.

I was so happy to hear Saturday Night was finally coming to the Network. I can't tell you how many Saturdays I spent as a youth watching this show at my Grandparents house. And yeah, before Nitro this was the go-to show so these 2 years should have some really amazing matches. I will be excited for when the later years appear as they had some great jobber matches.

I spent 0 Saturdays watching WCW Saturday Night. Even with the Network I've never bothered to check WCW out. Just looks so second rate compared to my beloved WWE.

Really? Their production was better than WWE’s for much of the 90s. More money to throw around. Not to mention better wrestling.

As a huge skeptic of WCW myself, let me go ahead and tell you, the Saturday night era shit they just released is some of the best WCW shit they ever did. Give it a shot man. You will like some of it a lot I guarantee you.

I've reached Halloween Havoc '99 with my WCW PPV watching. Christ things got really bad really quickly mid-way through 1999. This is the first show empty seats have been really visible. I will say though, the set is pretty cool at this PPV.

I'll be checking out some WCW Saturday Night.

    Yep.

For me, WCW was always the wrestling show. And that's why I felt the nail in the coffin for them in terms of a watchable product was losing Guerrero, Benoit, and Malenko. IMO their 3 top technical wrestlers. Once the WWE acquired them, the roster on WWE's side was devastating.

I don't think they ever had the spinning ring on Saturday Night, they had it on WCW Worldwide when they were taping at the Disney/MGM studios though. I used to hate it for whatever reason. I hated pretty much everything with the Disney tapings besides the actual matches. The non-wrestling fan crowd was irritating as hell with their Mickey Mouse ears and shit..

There's definitely a trove of gems to be found on Saturday Night from the early/mid 90's, Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat from 1994 comes to mind. It was right after Spring Stampede and they went for 45 minutes or something. Probably lots of great matches with the likes of Dustin Rhodes, Austin, Vader, Sting, Pillman, Regal, Cactus Jack etc, etc..

The spinning ring was on Saturday night I remember that would always open the show with the ring spinning and crowd shots. I can specifically hear Tony Schiavone and Lee Marshall lol.

I haven't bothered with an episode yet because I wasn't sure what the show was even about. Generally speaking, is it something I should be giving a look? What's the premise exactly?

They did? Are we talking Center Stage Theater era here or later? I only watched WCW Saturday Night until late 1995 or very early 1996 and that must have been before Lee Marshall. Think it was Schiavone and Ventura and later Schiavone/Heenan back when I watched.

/I found that Saturday Night was taped at Disney/MGM studios (same as Worldwide) during the summer of 1996 due to the summer Olympics in Atlanta. Maybe that's when SN used the spinning ring thingie.

In terms of the spinning ring I'm not sure the exact year but most of my memories of SN come from that similar era of 93-96ish. I'm not sure if it was the entire time or what, guess we'll find out haha!

I think Lee Marshall would just randomly sit in and this was probably 96-97 I imagine. I thought maybe I was confused and was thinking of Worldwide but the only time I ever watched Worldwide was when I had satellite tv and I think it was 1 time.

It probably was the summer of '96 like I mentioned in my edit. I think Disney/MGM was the only place to have the actual apparatus to make the ring spin.

Photo Shoot basically has a wrestler sit there while they give them a "surprise" slide show. It's pictures of their career, big moments, etc, and they get the reaction of the guest.

It almost feels like Prichard's podcast on an individual basis because they will see a picture that's 12 years old and then tell the story behind that moment.

It's one of my favorite shows on the Network. Quick episodes (15 minutes or so). I would say give it a shot.

I wouldn't say no to that either. Not to go all AES in here, but Heat and Shotgun were the bollocks. The secondary shows actually had some meaning.

I remember one of the earlier episodes of Sunday Night Heat had a match that, at one point, would have been a legitimate dream match in wrestling history. Where Undertaker and Mankind teamed up to take on The Legion of Doom. Granted, this was broken down and drugged up LOD. But still, that match didn't happen a lot.

All-Star Wrestling circa 1975 (one episode) through 1980 has dropped recently.

It was the second tier show in those days, replaced by Wrestling Challenge in 1984

You've got young and no workout Vince doing the announcing with totally unintelligible Antoninio Rocco. Just great to listen to for a few laughs.

You'll probably wonder how we used to get through these horrible squash matches, but the system somehow worked as Jim Cornette likes to point out. It made us want to see how these giants built up as unbeatable on tv could ever possibly be beaten.

New Haven where I went constantly drew 3-4 thousand without Bruno. Double to sold out with him or Hogan or Andre on the card. They're lucky to average the lower number for shows this year when you take out Wretlemania.

I watched a couple of episodes of All Star Wrestling. Made for a fun watch. Kevin Sullivan wrestled on one as a mid card baby face which was strange to see. Vince is actually great on commentary. I saw one with Rocca one with Bruno. It was obvious how much Vince loved Freddie Blassie and Lou Albano. Seemed to get a real kick out of them on commentary.

Saturday Night episodes have dropped. Hope they stream them at 6:05 EST on Saturdays. If not I'll probably just start watching one at that time every week.

I doubt many feel the same way, but I would love to see old episodes of WWF Livewire. I remember when Doc Hendrix and Sunny would host it, and they would incorporate shoot-style telephone interviews.

Can't find the clip of Russo and Cornette getting into it on Livewire. Later on Byte This became their shoot show.

Confidential was a good show too, I would watch some of those.

WWE Confidential and WWE Excess were fun late-night shows too.

I just read about the fan Axxess stuff they're doing at Wrestlemania Weekend. 4 separate tournaments and matches from Evolve and Progress wrestling. And two inter-promotional matches during the weekend. Walter from Progress vs. Kashius Ohno from NXT and Keith Lee from Evolve vs. Ohno.

That's fucking cool. I'd love to see that shit filmed and put up on the Network too. Its almost too damn cool not to.

The Chronicle special on Nakamura was easily the best representation of who he is as a person and as a wrestler. Definitely an enjoyable watch.

Must watch that Nakamura special. I've heard good things about it.

I was sitting at the dining room table last night and Mrs M was watching TV. I had earphones in and the I-pad on. She came over and said I was frowning. I said that this is what I look like when I watch WCW. I was at the end of the Halloween Havoc '99 PPV. Not sure what the story or deal was, but Hogan came out and laid down for Sting. Sting came back later and said he'd fight anyone in the main event later etc. So, I'm watching the end of the Flair/Page match and Dallas nails referee Charles Robinson with the Diamond Cutter. Now it's time for the main event and out comes Sting. Challenger is...GOLDBERG! Schiavone and Heenan are doing a bit of whispering on commentary, suggesting they're being told something in their ear piece. They then announce that it's a non-title match. Everyone seems confused, as a cameraman follows Sting around the ringside area. 'We have no referee' Sting tells the viewers at home. As Heenan jokes that 'well, it certainly can't be Charles Robinson' Charles Robinson sprints to the ring.

The match is clearly being thrown together and Sting and Goldberg look lost out there. Goldberg then hits a spear and a jackhammer and is announced as the winner and the new World Heavyweight Champion, Charlie gives him the belt, the ring announcer announces it and the commentary goes dead.

I knew it got bad, but jesus.

A title change in a non-title match must be pretty rare...

All makes sense now. Halloween Havoc 1999 was the first PPV under Vince Russo.

I was there for that show, and it was just as much of a wreck in-person as it was on TV. I remember being so confused when Hogan laid down, and the rest of the show just had a weird vibe after. I also remember being pissed that Goldberg took the title from Sting so easily, lol.

Goldberg and Sting must surely have been the plan for Starrcade, or at least it should have been. Instead, it's thrown together last minute with about 4 minutes remaining on the PPV.

Instead we get Bret and Goldberg and a rehash of the 1997 Survivor Series. Yawn. To be fair though, WWE rehashed this about a million more times themselves.

WCW Mayhem tonight. At least they had ditched World War 3 by this point.

I was watching WCW religiously at the time but I felt it was really starting to go downhill pretty much after SuperBrawl IX. I guess it really turned to dog poo the night after Havoc '99, which of course was the first Nitro for Russo and Ferrara. Thankfully that was the first Nitro I couldn't watch since 1996 because my cable company ditched TNT.

Was kind of pissed at the time, but in hindsight it was sort of a blessing in disguise.

Bret vs Goldberg at Starrcade is still a huge match. Yeah it wasn't executed the well but I don't blame them for going with that match.

Like everything surrounding WCW at the time, it was executed poorly, like you said. I mean, Bret tapped to Luger's Boston Crab at Havoc.

Now watching Mayhem. Bret Vs Sting. Luger comes out and waffles Sting with the baseball bat. Sting gets disqualified.

How entertaining are you finding the shows? Are there any hidden gems amongst all the shit? Why are you doing this? etc.

I’m not finding them very entertaining at all, to be honest. It’s been somewhat of a chore. As for hidden gems, not really. Some decent matches, sure. I mean, they had some very decent talent there. In fact, they were loaded with talent. Before the arse fell out around early to mid 1999, the undercards were very good at times. The likes of Rey, Jericho, Eddie, Raven, Malenko, Juvi, Psicosis, Benoit, Kanyon, Bigelow tearing it up.

But now I’ve reached the Russo era, the majority have left or are about to leave and the shows are a mess. Mayhem had 12 matches on the 3 hour PPV. Most had interference. Even the tournament final was Benoit Vs. Bret. In Canada. I mean, that writes itself. Instead, we have Malenko, Nash, Hall and Goldberg interfering. In the Luger/Meng match, Liz sprayed Luger in the face with mace. Just looked up and sprayed it directly into his face. The commentators acted like it was an accident and Meng had moved out of the way. Nope, she just sprayed Luger. It was probably meant to make no sense, it was Russo. I say that because Jimmy Hart waffled Brian Knobbs with a trashcan instead of Norman Smiley and the commentators did the same thing. Also, pretty sure Heenan was drunk on commentary, sadly. He thought the Luger/Meng match was for the heavyweight title.

As for why am I doing it? Well, it’s more a case of why am I still doing it. Back in the day, I was never a WCW fan. But when Bret went there, I was keen to check them out, but in the UK, we only got Nitro and the PPVs never aired over here. I picked up the odd VHS, but that was it. And I’d read in PowerSlam magazine how good the PPVs were around 1998. Really, I should have stopped in 1999.

I started with Nitro and PPVs from when Nitro started in September 1995. Gave up on Nitro when it went to 3 hours. Now, I have 14 PPVs to go. At the end of that, I will go back and watch the PPVs starting at the beginning and Starrcade ’83. That will take no time with there being so few shows and I expect to enjoy them so much more. I loved some of the WCW I saw of the early 90s. Southern Boys and Midnight Express from The Great American Bash 1990 I’m looking forward to seeing again.

I was flicking back and forth between the two back in the day but stopped watching WCW about summer 1999 and swirched to WWE/F full-time then. I've not seen one iota of the Russo era, good luck Murph getting through that if you choose to continue.

I remember thinking the first Nitro under Russo and Ferrara was decent. All champions were stripped of their titles and we had the Millionaires Club and younger guys feud. Not sure what the young guys were called. And most of them weren't young, but there you go. It had potential though. But Russo was making insider 'shoot' comments that went over 99% of the audiences heads. 'What's the matter Sid, haven't got your scissors?' *crickets*

And I recall a sit down interview with Tony Schiavone and Goldberg and Tony asked him if he was going to 'go against the script'.

    Fucking hell.

And then Russo makes himself the champ. Oh and Arquette.
