They are saying uncut and uncensored matches, I am going to be really sad when they inevitably edit out old theme music. I know they would have to pay the rights holders for the themes, but the weird versions, like the WWE version of Goldberg@!@! It is so bad, you can't chant goldberg to it!

I wish they would be willing to shell out the money to get the rights, but I highly doubt they would have any interest.

    So from what im picking up on Wrestling Observers coverage, the main footnotes are;

    - All PPVS from the big three.
    - No blurring, Jesse Commentary and Benoit with a warning
    - 10 bucks a month, 6 month contract but still paid monthly.
    - Will include all PPV's but PPVs will all still be available by usual methods.
    - Raw and SD will be available to stream immediately following airing. ME and NXT will debut there.
    - Price will probably jump a bit after a while
    - Not available outside of the US, but all us tech savvy sons of guns will no doubt find a workaround.

If you cant justify shelling out 6 quid a month for this and you like wrestling in any way shape or form then you are a fucking spastic. Yes you can probably torrent it all and all that but why when it will be so easy so for little money??

This is an absolute steal at $10 a month - they likely could have charged more, and probably will once it's been going about a year. The monthly PPVs alone make it worthwhile but the extra content is a wrestling fan's dream come true.

I've read some grumbling that there's no Mid South, AWA etc - but WWE has tens of thousands of hours of footage that isn't all ready for the Network. Given time, more of this stuff will appear.

The downside is what Lance Storm mentioned about PPV bonuses. I asked PWTorch.com and PWInsider.com about that a month or so ago and as far as they are/were aware, it's barely been given any thought by WWE management.

I'm keeping an eye on this. I've been off wrestling for a good couple of years now but if I can watch a Raw the following day without 1,000 hours of commercials on demand, and I get the PPV, and I get the awesome back catalogue, all for $10/month or roughly what I spend on lunch out per week.... I have to consider this. I would need a Canadian work around but if it's anywhere near as easy as the Netflix work around then it's really a non issue.

Would they edit out the commercials for Raw or keep them in I wonder?

I think they will, albeit and understandably an edited version.

In WWE Championship history this was an important show don't forget, The Undertaker won one of his titles on this show.

They never released an edited video/dvd. Don't see why they'd change tack now.

RAW available immediately after it airs on USA is pretty sweet. I'll just watch everything the next day. This may just get me back into wrestling. Can't wait to see the super posedown between Warrior and Rude again.

At a push, they could show one or two matches from the show such as that title match - but I really, really doubt they will show the whole PPV.

I haven't watched RAW in years or any of the pay per views but this will get me back into it for the price.

I'm glad WWE didn't make a deal with a cable provider. That is a dying breed.

I'd imagine we'll be able to access it day one the same way we can access the US Netflix. If you need a US card then there's plenty of only credit cards out there. If there's a PS3 app you will be able to get it from the US store.

I already had a US PS3 account set up, easy as pie, you just need a second email address. Annoying that it'll be delayed, although I wonder if I'll have to mess about with DNS and all that, which didn't always work out with me for netflix.

Botchamania already has massive issues with Copyright, WWE have already clamped down on it on YouTube and now they're pushing on DailyMotion too. Its sad because there's no reason the two can't exist.. it's not like someone will say "I'm not watching WM this year, I've seen The Miz slip on his ass on Botchamania and now I don't feel like it..". Aside from making people look a bit silly, and making fun of the terrible acting/stories from the past, I dont see what the problem is with it.... but hey ho.. copyright balls.

Gotcha On the Copyright issue. So most of the shit from botchamania is pulled from current youtube videos? What would prevent him from subscribing to WWE Network and recording footage directly from there to create his videos. More dangerous copyright issues? Sorry if I'm coming of a bit dense here just want a better understanding.

If WWE has a network with all of this footage on it they will more agressively pursue people using thier copyrighted footage than if not.

Someone on the wrestling observer board tried to upload a random old Mid-South clip with no mention of wrestling in the title and it flagged up for copyright, so it looks like they're building more and more methods of detection across thier whole library in lieu of the launch.

Copyright on Youtube is a whole other story. There are third party firms devoted to flagging stuff as copyright violations on behalf of other people. It ends up with people having their own music pulled off.

I'm very excited for this. I caught a tad bit of the press conference so to speak last night before my phone died, I saw Trips and HBk with Stephanie, it was pretty hilarious, definitely not stuff you see on their programming lol. Great deal, $10 right out the gate. All the older content plus the ppvs and other shows, even if you're a casual fan this is something that you should check out even if it's just for the first 6 months.

I would imagine no commercials but you will probably get all the WWE app stuff they show in breaks. Sometimes bits of matches, entrances, kiss cam, etc.

I like what Slare was saying its still just 10 per month but you are contracted for 6.

Botchamania is gold. The only reason I can truly see WWE giving a shit about that stuff is they don't want fans to avoid the matches. Idk, does the NFL and other organizations give a shit this much about blooper reels on the net? Pretty soon we're going to go back to the days of tape-swapping.

WWE gives a shit about anyone using their content in any way without their permission. They especially will now that a primary source of income will come from online content. The NFL polices this stuff as well, but a) it's more complicated as numerous networks and online vendors have rights to NFL's content in a way that is not true of WWE and b) there are WAY more people doing it with NFL stuff and it would be nearly impossible to lock it all down.

I've used random clips pulled from shows in Cewsh Reviews. WWE is actually much more lax about this stuff than TNA is, but they do catch on eventually unless the show is older.

Yeah but the point im making is that they are closing down on it now. This guy used to upload all sorts of shit and is now getting pulled for uploading a random old territory show. Shows they're cracking down big style now.

UFC is the same way. I just wish the WWE were more relaxed about certain things. It's not like Botchamania gives matches away for free or anything, but 100% understand why it's an issue for the WWE. It can potentially take money out of their pocket even if it's just an excerpt from a match. The good thing is, for Botchamania, there's enough non-WWE library for them to use such as CZW.

I am sick to death of copyright being assumed to only ever go in one direction. Copyright laws in various countries, and the DMCA in particular, does allow for uses like Botchamania, but they get caught up in broad sweeps and IP owners and their lickspittles seem to just make copyright law up as they go along.

Having said that, $10 a month, including PPVs, seems like an absolutely fantastic deal. I might get back into wrestling after all, or at least give the product a whirl. Any word on if there'll be a trial period like with Netflix? Just a week or two would be enough to know if it's going to be worth it, I think.

There's a one week free trial from the 24th Feb to the 1st March apparently.

Also, ND, how would you feel as a company if someone (Maffew from botchamania) was gaining money/advertising etc by basically editing your product. It's not just a wee bit of fun, Botchamania is a pretty big deal right now. Simple business.

Doesn't matter, the law says he can do it for the purposes of criticism or comment. Comedy Central can make money laughing at CNN all night long and CNN can't do a thing about it.

Yeah I definitely tune in to Botchamania for a load of Indy wrestlers I've never heard of.

They're a good supplement, but the WWE footage is responsible for most of their hits, I'd wager.

doesnt matter how he'd feel, fair use for purpose of parody exists in us copyright law.

They may have to put effort into their videos, so it's not just a string of wrestling clips. Maybe have talking heads commenting on the botch etc, but what botchamania does almost certainly falls under fair use

WWE has filed documents with the SEC regarding possible financial effects of the Network. They expect to have between 1-2 million subscribers by the end of this year and maybe even ending up with 3 million.

I'm obviously paraphrasing here but the concern is that for PPVs still available in the usual way, the providers may get huffy with them and not carry the shows. That, coinciding with the launch of the Network, could mean a drop in revenues. This is another reason why they need to get the big money, multi-year TV deals sorted for Raw and SmackDown.

Are they gaining money? I don't know enough about the people who put those together. But again, I already said 2-3 times I understand WWE's stance, but to me it just seems a little over the top. If I were the WWE, I wouldn't care because there's probably no way to tell if Botchamania and tribute videos with just clips are affecting my business. Full matches, shows, etc. I understand that completely.

I don't think we'll see a huge shift in difference with ppvs just yet. Think of how many people who don't have Netflix still go out and rent movies, use OnDemand services through their provider. Even people WITH Netflix do these things. The households that don't have a gaming system to use or want to sit and watch ppv with their friends/family on a 17 inch monitor are still going to purchase ppvs.

I'm excited for this, but there was a noticeable shift in quality between the streaming offered by Netflix and that offered by Hulu. I really wish there was a way to test the waters without committing to six months of what may end up to be streams that buffer themselves ad nauseum.

On the subject of Botchamania, "fair use" is an affirmative defense to a lawsuit. Meaning that if WWE were to sue the guy for using their content without their permission, he could defend himself by arguing it's fair use. Youtube, as a private entity, has the absolute right to determine what they will and won't post. Thus, they can pull his videos if they want to. Because WWE is an important source of hits and revenue for Youtube, they are favorably inclined to do what WWE wants them to.

But wouldn't WWE moving their items away from Youtube and onto their own network change the nature of that relationship?

WWE timed this very well, since they should be able to lock down some good TV deals, that come in to play just in time to help absorb the early losses associated with setting up the network. People might mock Vince and the rest of management at times, but things like this prove that he's still a fucking genius.

The way I read that is... if you get the six month subscription, you're getting the 9.99 a month as your fulltime rate. If you go on a pay as you go by month, then it'll be a higher price.

I mean hell, one PPV on cable is 60 dollars... so if you go as high as even 20 a month... 6 months worth of PPV's. $120 (network) or $360 (PPV's only). This is a home run swing for the WWE, providing their equipment is up to the task.

They're going to need a bigger boat if they plan on handling all the incoming traffic. I imagine launch day being very... very bumpy.

If enough people subscribe, they could end up making more on this...
According to Dave Meltzer, in 2012 WWE had a grand total of 3,926,000 buys over twelve PPVs...

PPVs are sixty bucks a pop, WWE gets roughly half of that...
$30 vs. $120 means you'd only need 981,500 subscriptions to equal the total PPV revenue of 2012...

Obviously, there's extra costs in setting this all up, keeping it running, DVD sales to consider, etc...
If they get a few million subscribers, though, it could be a successful venture...

WWE wins, fans win, cable providers lose...

I don't. That would be an insane thing for WWE to do. WWE want to keep as many people using the network as possible. The long term subscriptions are where the money is. Increasing the sub fees soon after launch would cause them to lose subscribers. This is a long term investment and to treat it as anything but that would be shooting themselves in the foot. There's a reason Vince McMahon is the most successful wrestling promoter in the history of the business. There's also a reason that Netflix and World of Warcraft haven't massively hiked up their fees.

A price increase is something that could be likely further down the road when things continue to flourish. I can't believe how excited I am over this, it's amazing.

There's an articles at Forbes.com that notes if all (approx) 4 million people who watched Raw on Monday order the network, that would match their TV rights fees. So they've shown that they can keep all that important demographic in-house, which is a big help in the rights fees negotiations.

I'd pay $20 a month. Still cheaper than a PPV. And considering I'd watch it everyday I'd get my money's worth.

I wouldn't pay much more than $10 and I think I'm a key demographic here. Used to be a wrestling fan, subscribes to Netflix (similar product), enjoys on-demand products, moving away from traditional cable, price sensitive. They're looking to draw in people who are on the fence and as such, price is key. The hardcore fans are going to jump aboard. It's the fece sitters they need to hook. I could see a price hike down the road, like a few years even, but not 6 months from now. It would kill it before it even got going.

This is a gutsy move by WWE and the kind of forward thinking that I've criticized them for lacking in the last few years. I give them a lot of credit for trying this idea.

Why are people worried about the price increasing?

I think that's been fairly well explained. PPVs are like $50/month. WWE is offering them, plus current TV, plus their old tape library for $10/month. It's a very good price point and any time people see a deal we're apt to ask what the catch is. It's a bit sad but a valid reaction in our society.

Yup, agree completely. I'm already seeing this story reported in a similar way, along the lines of "even if you're not much of a wrestling fan, this is an amazing deal".

Really, really interested to see how well this takes off. All public reaction has been extremely positive so far.

Any word on whether or not the territorial stuff will be on the network? I was excited about the possibility of being able to watch some Mid South and Memphis wrestling.

I'm sure they'll get round to adding ECW, AWA, World Class etc - give them time!

EDIT: WWE doesn't own any of the old Memphis stuff.

For those of us who pay for monthly PPVs, $10 or even $20 a month is totally worth it. Plus all the on demand shit...there's no way I won't be getting this.

You'd think there will be a fair bit of exclusive content as a sweetener as well.

So if you were planning on hosting a WrestleMania party, now your friends will essentially just be paying for you to have six months of WWE Network content.

I read a rumor that NXT will be getting a PPV-like special on the network. This is the kind of thing that's got me stoked.

I'd be stoked if this came to Australia. I'd stop hitting up all the streams instantly, even spoke to the wife about it... she too agreed it'd be pretty awesome.

It started with my wife but I swear I'm slowly transforming about 30 or 40 friends into borderline wrestling fans.

Another thing to consider is that this will appeal to the fans they've lost in the Cena/PG era and who long for the Attitude Era again. I've drifted in and out of wrestling a lot in the past ten years but even if I wasn't watching the current product at the moment I'd still be excited about this. Picking up original copies of Attitude Era PPVs costs around 15 for us on eBay these days (the same price as PPVs), so in that respect it's worth a six month subscription for a bit of nostalgic viewing alone.

As long as there's no bullshit constant buffering and ads every ten minutes it's going to be amazing.

That doesn't really surprise me since they said NXT and Main Event would be live after the network launches.

Got off the phone with my friend and that was the deal. He gets Mania and I will do SummerSlam.

    http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-t...wwe-ppv-events

In WWE's release sent out earlier today, it noted that they would continue to offer PPVs via traditional televised means, but said that it is possible companies may not continue to carry them.

The contracts that inDemand and DirecTV have with wrestling companies, boxing companies and UFC are that the PPVs can't be put on the Internet for a lower price than is being charged by the cable companies, so they aren't undercut.

Obviously, putting PPV's as part of the new WWE network package would significantly undercut the price, and if they allowed WWE, a third place competitor in the pay-per-view market to violate that longstanding agreement, they would be powerless against the big two, the major boxing events and UFC.

DirecTV released a statement today to the Los Angeles Times which stated:

"Clearly, we need to quickly re-evaluate the economics and viability of their business with us, as it now appaers the WWE feels they do not need their PPV distributors."

DirecTV claimed in the release that the WWE has been in a steady decline on PPV (actually the first half of this year was far stronger than in past years, but the last few months have been down).

They noted the network "will only accelerate this trend."

Vince McMahon claimed it would be foolish for cable companies to no longer carry WWE events, saying it is "found money for them."

Not sure if this has been covered, but if less people start to watch Raw/Smackdown with traditional methods will this affect viewership and subsequently their TV deals?

Well USA won't dump them unless their ratings all but disappear, which won't happen just because of this. And if Sci-Fi cares about ratings at all, Smackdown is still a hit for them even with the paltry ratings it's been getting compared to past years.

Besides, the shows have been available the day after on Hulu for months. It's not like this is a huge jump for that kind of watcher. Luckily, wrestling, like sports, continues to be a "must watch live" kind of show for many viewers.

Ah, so you can't watch shows live on this new network thingy? Assumed you could. As they mention scheduled programming.

They've said that NXT and Main Event will be aired live. They can't air Raw live due to their network deal with USA, and Sci-Fi doesn't air Smackdown live anyway.
