    Thor: Love & Thunder

Might as well have a separate thread for this.

I'm seeing this at the weekend. Really enjoyed the first film's fish-out-of-water concept, so I'm looking forward to seeing the larger scale of the sequel. More Loki brilliance is always welcome. There are two post-credit scenes as well.

    Anyone seen it yet?

I saw this last night. Really enjoyed it, surprised at how many laughs were in it. A genius cameo that no one expected and post credit scenes were good. Although someone might have to give me some more info about the first one as the wiki page is massive.

Saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. Some of the humour was very ambitious in parts - I'm struggling to think of another film which takes so many risks with what should be a very serious or dramatic moment by throwing in a sight gag or two. Not only did they expand the scale of the film, but they also really embraced the sci-fi aspect. That bodes well for Guardians of the Galaxy. The finale was the perfect antidote to Man of Steel's CGI-fest. The pace and running time was nice as well, though I've read that some stuff had been left on the cutting room floor and perhaps mistakenly so. There were some things which were under-developed, but overall the film is a great example of how much fun Marvel are having with these characters. Between this and Iron Man 3, Phase 2 really feels different to Phase 1 and that can only be a good thing. Roll on Captain America.

Some more thoughts with major plot spoilers included:

Portman is entertaining because of how she continues to just get more and more attractive. However clearly she didnt even want to be in this film.

I saw it last night, quite enjoyed it.

It was a nice way to kill a couple of hours.

Lady Sif is so delicious. And so is Portman. Portman with blue eyes was pure erection.

Saw it this afternoon. Really enjoyed the film, more than I expected, but my only gripe is that the villain seemed so weak. Brute looked stronger and he was just the muscle. Overall though, really good movie

Saw the film today. It was a lot more humorous than I thought it'd be. Very, very good. Am I the only one who was slightly disappointed by the post credit scenes?

I agree TS. It did feel like they had to fit it in somewhere, wasnt very organic at all. Atty, Sif is fantastic. She's definitely up there on my list too

Really enjoyed it. Agree with you on Sif. Also kind of enjoyed Frigga being a bad ass. Hiddleston's Loki is just great and I don't want to stop seeing him on screen. The random "cameo" was rather fun.

There was a part of me that kept wanting Malekith to go "Fantastic!" after belting Thor about.

The Wiki article has this quote from Eccleston:

"There is a kind of tragic quality to his quest. Because he's lost his wife, he's lost his children. He's lost everything. And he returns for revenge."

Maybe I zoned out during that scene, but I don't remember anything about his wife or children, and I didn't see anything slightly tragic about his quest. I mean, you can assume his family is gone, but I don't think it was ever brought up. Makes me wonder if some stuff got left out of the final edit. Probably to make room for that scene at the beginning with Loki.

Finally, a very good comic book movie for the year if not the best sci-fi movie of the year. Yeah, there was nothing about Matlif's family being killed in the film. I did hear that Joss came into make some changes, so I would expect the Blu Ray to be filled up.

Its somewhat implied because he basically turned his people into kamikaze pilots in their ships, but still. They could've been in his ship for all we know

Agreed. Maliketh didn't seem a particularly interesting villain, he just sort of wanted to destroy the universe because reasons. Kefka without the charm, really. They really didn't get his side of things across and it made him pretty flat.

I enjoyed the film overall though, but I was a bit surprised that Sif and Jane never really interacted. I thought for sure there'd be scope for some quasi-amusing friction between them, but Jane seemed to spend pretty much the entire film lying down or getting lost. Who casts an actor like Natalie Portman for a role like that? I could probably nitpick a few other things but as a whole piece it was a really enjoyable entry into the Marvel series. Loki's brilliant, Thor's fun, Odin was great, there were lovely set pieces and interesting bits for various characters, it just all holds together really well despite the odd weak spot.

Yes, but it'd be fake. Someone could easily notice. I can't recall, could Heimdall see through Loki's illusions?

Finally saw this. Was a lot, lot better than what I was expecting. I do have a question though... why is it that Thor could tell when Loki was Hologramming during the jail cell scene after the mom died, but couldn't recognze it when he posed as Odin?

Thor said to the other Asgardians from the beginning that he knew Loki would backstab him at some point. Plus he could previously tell he was hologrammed but was unable to tell while he was dying or when he was Odin? Unless Thor is retarded, I think he may have known who he was talking to.

    Possibly.

You're also trying to shoot holes in a comic book movie, so keep that in mind and consider sorting yourself out.

I watched it last night and thought it was alright. I forgot eccleston was the villain and you couldn't really tell. Seems like a waste of money to pay him honestly.

Thor couldn't tell Loki was using holograms earlier in the movie through magic or raw skill or something, he just smelled a rat and knew his brother well enough to see it coming. He had zero reason to see a fake death or a conversation with his dad really being Loki coming. Well, maybe he should have considered the death being faked but he had shit to do at that moment. No reason at all he would have thought Odin was Loki, though. He's not got magic eyes that see holograms.

Are we talking Thor or Loki? Because nobody was as good looking as Loki in that film. Not even Darth Vader's wife.

Didn't see a Thor ragnarok thread and I'm sure it's bunched in with avengers but hot damn...

Just watched for the 1st time since I seen it in the theater and I must say it was even Vetter on the 2nd viewing. The movie is just such good fun and it's going to be a sad day knowing Hemsworth is done as Thor.

Would love just a flat out gotg and Thor movie.

Doesn't look amazing or anything but I'm nevertheless excited for another Thor movie. I don't think it can live up to Ragnarok which I have as a top 2 MCU movie, but I hope it doesn't leave us saying "they should have ended it after 3 movies". Given that Taika Waititi is still at the helm, I'm sure it won't suck.

The final moment of this trailer is revealing. I mean it would be, if they didn't already announce it. It was an interesting choice not to keep that as a surprise. Maybe it happens early in the movie, or they just wanted it to be part of the marketing campaign, or they thought they couldn't keep it a secret.

They brought Natalie Portman to a Comic Con to announc she would be Lady Thor.

Pretty good trailer. Shows a post-Endgame journey for Thor. Cool to have the Greek Gods be aliens similar to Asgard.

    Moon Knight Spoiler:

I could re-title this thread "Thor: Love & Thunder" and then it would be the right thread...

I was going to say that was a pretty big spoiler at the end of the teaser and then i remembered that was pretty much literally how they announced the movie.

You saw Infinity War and End Game. Branching timelines and shit. Something like that.

Reminder that Christian Bale is the villain in this movie. There are some leaked photos of him in costume but we will probably get our first look at him when the full trailer drops. Should be interesting to see how he fits into the MCU. I'm a little surprised he returned to comic films after his Batman trilogy- hopefully that means it's a good character (because he wouldn't have signed on if it was shit).

He said in an interview a while back that his kids love the MCU movies and he did it for them and to work with Taika.

Gorr taking out the Egyptian Pantheon would be a wonderful lead in.

Loved the trailer. While I’m ehhh about the hero trying to find himself in his 4th movie, I’m still digging the direction. And Natalie looks jacked holy krull.

Fun fact - "love" and "thunder" are the names of Hulk Hogan's balls.

Pretty slick poster below. Christian Bale's character looks great IMO. This movie should be fun, though I'm not sold on Mighty Thor. I'm a little worried that element could be lame. I think if it happened in the back half of the movie as like a holy-shit type moment it could definitely be cool, but given how they're marketing it she's seemingly Mighty Thor for the whole movie. I love Portman but I'm skeptical about this plotline.

Loved the new trailer. Bale looks ehh ok, but I can’t wait to see this. It’s so crazy seeing the comparison between the first Thor movie and this. They really swiveled the character in the best way.

    Hope Valkyrie bites it.
