Saw this last night and it was rather goooooooooood. A proper summer blockbuster.

I think Beast was a bit underutilised and I still think his make-up is shit.

    Quicksilver - amazing.

Make sure you stick around after the credits.

I couldnt. Saw it in a double bill with Godzilla with the students today for the end of term. Definitely liked XMen more.

I liked First Class and would say that they were both of comparable quality.

Very enjoyable movie. Just don't go in looking for continuity issues because A) it's comics and B) it's time travel and those always fuck with continuity.

Very much enjoyed it. Glad it essentially retconned last stand and origins. Had a few annoyances (magneto with the sentinels) but for the most part was fun. Quicksilver was excellent. My one issue though that drove me crazy and only because I'm a DC metro area resident....

There was no actively maintained baseball diamonds within a huge stadium inside DC in 73. The senators left town in 71

I really liked it. Would probably put it above First Class. The post credits scene made me giddy. Its gonna be a long 2 year wait.

Just saw it today and I absolutely loved it. I think I might actually like it better than X-Men 2, but that's still debatable at this point. I'll have to watch it again to see if it's just as good the second time around.

Like most, I've hated just about everything since X2, exception being First Class, but even that I didn't like as much as most seemed to. But this was really good, maybe better than X2.

To me, get Andy Serkis to play him and just motion capture him like they did with The Hulk.

Days Of Future Past might be the best one in the Series. First Class is up there too I would say.

Already can't wait for the next one and who plays Apocalypse.

I like this idea. But have we ever had a full CG of a big (as in physically big) character that involved dialogue? I mean Hulk is big, but the dialogue hasn't had to be much. Gollum was great, I just wonder how it will transition for an imposing type character like Apocalypse would be.

Absolutely fantastic. Maybe my favorite in the series. If not, it's equal to X2/First Class.

Christopher from District 9 springs to mind as another CGI character who had to deliver a lot of dialogue, albeit it was subtitled.

Just got back from this. I liked it, but not quite as much as some of you. I think it was better than First Class, but not quite as good as 1 or 2.

Out of the trailers before the film, the only one I care to go to the theatre to see is Guardians of the Galaxy

Speaking of the trailers, that Vaughn movie about the modern day Knights looks beyond garbage. Everybody in the theater was scoffing at it.

I'd reserve judgement on that. Matthew Vaughn hasn't made a bad film yet.

Really, the thing that pushed it for me was tone. Most would have made it exceedingly dark but there's a lot of fun here. It's kind of The Avengers effect for me where I just was able to have more fun with this than other films in the series. Yeah, it's got the apocalyptic future (no pun intended) but there are so many winks and things to make the audience smile and laugh that it raises the experience. Really, I think Singer's come a long way here. Able to have a lot of fun and not stretch things out to the point where they become boring and lose a lot of the fun they could have had (Superman Returns.)

I wasn't sold on Guardians in the least until the bit in the trailer where no one knew who Chris Pratt's character was. That sold me right there.

This isn't the film she won an Oscar for or generated rave reviews in, that might be why.

McAvoy is marvelous. He, Fassbender and Lawrence as the core of the reboot/present series is simply brilliant casting.

I was really thinking about this as one of the best franchise reboots the other day. It's not even a reboot, really, but they changed the time that the series is set in, introduced a new cast, characters and storylines and everything otherwise associated with reboots. It rebooted while leaving what worked from the past series intact.

I love this movie. Love, love, love it. Saw it again and left ranking it higher than the first time.

I agree, actually, it's just not the sort of thing Lawrence is getting all her plaudits for. I didn't really know her when I saw First Class and was impressed, though, she added a layer of vulnerability to Raven who had previously been just some 2D sexy badass.

    Scott Levy is better.

I usually hate comic book movies, but thought this was great. Something about the X-Men is just so awesome. X2 was the only one I didn't really like out of these films.

You didn't care for X2? In my mind, it's right up there as the best X-Men movie with DOFP.

I thought X2 the best one until First Class came out.

I still think X2 is better than most of the X-Men movies, although when I rewatch DOFP, it might take #2 spot.

I liked X2 but I actually rate it at the bottom (not counting the Wolverine movies). The last half just felt a bit bogged down and kind of lost. It's been ages since I saw it, mind. Off the top of my head, my ratings would probably be this:

    1. FC
    2. X1
    3. DoFP
    4. X3
    5. X2

    1. X2
    2. DoFP
    3. X1
    4. FC
    5. X3

    Different strokes, different blokes.

I'm going to count the Wolverine ones in this, because they are just as much part of the franchise.

    1. X2
    2. DOFP
    3. FC
    4. X1
    5. The Wolverine
    6. Origins: Wolverine
    7. X3

I recall not enjoying Nightcrawler in X2. Also, wasn't a fan of Hugh Jackman until recently.

Not at all. I'd definitely like the notion of having him as War.

And yeah....for me it's X-2 and DOFP battling for the top two spots. Need to see DOFP to truly rate it. Then X1 and FC battling each other for the next spot. Been a while since I've seen X1 so would need to go back and see how it holds up.

Then WAY farther back is Origins and then Last Stand.

I haven't seen The Wolverine yet.

    I'd go:

    1. DOFP/X2
    3. First Class
    4. X-Men
    5. The Wolverine
    6. Origins
    7. X3

The Wolverine will be an interesting one in how it ages. I liked it, a lot actually, but it was essentially a set up for Days of Future Past. It's kind of non-entity after DOFP. It set up Logan's turmoil over Jean, him getting past it and then Xavier and Magneto recruiting Wolverine at the start of the war.

Origins is still my least favorite. Thankfully I never have to watch it again given the current timeline. I might force myself to watch Last Stand just to feel the pain and anger so that the relief of DOFP can wash over me properly. I would probably ignore the Wolverine in the future but as Atty said, it set up Wolverine's inability to get over Jean.

I may actually like DOFP more than X2 but I want to sit on it for a bit to make sure. I can't wait for Apocalypse.

    X2/DOFP
    FC
    X-Men

    The Wolverine

    X3

    Origins

    My thoughts exactly. Using spacing...

    First Class

    X-Men

    The Wolverine

    X3

Xavier came back in the post-credits scene of X3, presumably into the body of his brain-dead twin. Who was also partially paralysed, I guess.

That behaviour bothers me more than it probably should. I just do not understand how a human mind can manage it. "This is obviously one of the best, though I need to see it just to be sure". What the hell?

I did the exact same thing. Went to see it with some friends and when it first ended our three of us went "Best thing about the movie...X3 no longer happens".

Then it was walking out of the theater and realizing "wait a second....Origins didn't either, which means horrible Baraka Cyclops Stitched Mouth Deadpool didn't happen! WOOHOO"

Bingo, Thanks OD50 and no problem Mike. That was my fault. Completely left out typing "again" even though I was thinking it.

So here's a random bit of comic geekery thinking....

I loved the acknowledgement about Quicksilver. But speaking about parentage of comic characters, Azazel was shown as being killed and it didn't exactly look like Mystique had the figure of someone that was popping out kids in that past 10 years That can just be ignored though because seriously, I want Nightcrawler back in again.

I rewatched X2 last night and I'm positive it's my favorite of the franchise still. And as for Mystique... Rebecca's Mystique is so much better than Jennifer's IMO. Sure, she doesn't really have to "act", but she has a better overall presence playing the stoic/menacing force to be reckoned with. And her voice being distorted like that is just cooler.

Saw this on Saturday, great movie, my favorite of the X-Men series so far. About a month ago I ordered volume one of the 90's animated series and had to hold off on watching disc 2 because it had the Days of Future past episodes and I didn't want to go to the movie and wind up pissed off or have something ruined since it had been years since I had read or watched anything about this storyline. So I ended up watching disc 2 late last night and it was barely similar to the movie which was a good thing.

I'm jacked for the next one.

You must have missed the conversation that said explicitly, pretty much verbatim, "he's not teleporting, he's moving fast".

Just saw this. Thought it was a damn fine film. Very intrigued about where the next film will take things.

I finally watched Days of Future Past. I liked it, thought it was a good sequel but not quite as good as First Class. I was worried about the time travel stuff but they pulled it off well. Fassbender and McAvoy make this series so fucking good. Definitely my favorite comic book movie series going at the moment.

Not sure if this was reported in the other thread but Olivia Munn will be in Apocalypse as Betsy Braddock / Psylocke. I'm not familiar with the character but I think she'll be a good add to that universe.

Munn is a really good choice for Psylocke, purely from a looks stand point. She's also a solid actress, IMO, so if they actually give her something to do in the movie, she'll probably be good.

I too finally watched Days of Future Past. Honestly, I thought it was boring as fuck. The Quicksilver scene at the Pentagon was awesome, but the rest of the movie bored the shit out of me, and the dialog at the end was fucking terrible. I'm also tired of Jennifer Lawrence. I'm looking forward to the Apocalypse movie because I'm sick to death of Magneto in these movies, so it should be a nice change of pace. Also, having a villain that's actually a villain and not a morally ambiguous sort of non-villain villain is something I feel like the X-Men film series has sorely lacked.

The biggest gripe I have about Days of Future Past is the fact they cut the Rogue scenes. I read that they felt it hurt the flow of the movie, and you can see the cut scenes on the Blu Ray extras but still I think they could've made adjustments elsewhere or just kept the scenes which would've added like 10 minutes if that.

I wouldn't call it "boring", but so much wasted potential. They had one of the most iconic storylines to work with, a cast of amazing actors, the ability to right the wrongs of X3 and they gave us this. DOFP felt a lot like I was watching it and just hoping it got good, but it never did. I'd rank the X-man films:

    - First Class
    - X2
    - The Wolverine
    - X-men
    - Wolverine Origins
    - Days of Future Past
    - X3

It was definitely weird watching the movie but still remembering the 90's cartoon where it was Gambit who basically played the role Mystique did in the movie. I can't fucking wait till Gambit comes into play with my boy Channing Tatum in the role. I think that guy is massively underrated, he has put out some quality work and aside from Jean Claude Van Damme I don't think I'd want to see anyone else in that role.

Not a bad list, but I'd definitely rank DOFP ahead of Origins, and X1 ahead of The Wolverine. With the exception of his rampage against the mutant police when they break into the mansion in X2, I'm still not thrilled with the Wolverine they portray in the movies. I like my Wolverine to be a nearly unstoppable wise cracking agent of death. In the movies, he's a little too reminiscent of early 90's/softie hanging out with Jubilee Wolverine for my tastes.

DOFP just felt blah. The Magneto arc really felt forced and shoehorned in. Dinklage felt like a wasted resource. Jennifer Lawrence sucks and there was too much Mystique. Movie Wolvie is useless without the adamantium. Honestly, other than the Quicksilver scene, my favorite part of the movie was the post credits scene with Apocalypse.

How could you ever have Origins above any movie outside of X3? It's so bad.

Nah, Origins is full-on cheesy fun to me. Aside from the waste of Gambit, I really enjoyed that movie.

So X-Men: Apocalypse is taking place during the 80's right? What confuses me is that the end of DOFP had Logan at the present... so how is all this going to happen? More time travel?

Why would time travel be needed? They will show us what happens in the 80s (if you're right - I haven't heard anything about the setting myself) with the young X-Men crew. The old X-Men crew will not be in the movie, I assume. Wolverine existed in the 80s as well as the present.

I still want to see Mystique and Wolverine becoming two of Apocalypse's horsemen. Could possibly be part of Xavier's "We have a lot to catch you up on" bit at the end of DOFP.

I dunno, I always assume that these movies are progressing the story. But if this is something that happened in the 80's... in the past... then it feels like there won't be many repercussions as far as the present time when Wolverine "wakes up" after remembering the events of DOFP.

The post credits scene from DOFP confused me a little because we see Apocalypse building the pyramids, but we didn't get a little timecode at the bottom saying... Egypt, X years ago. It left me w/ "Was Apocalypse building THE pyramids or is this happening around the time Wolverine just woke up?"

    Dunno. Just over-thinking.

No. That's stupid. Really stupid like.

The entire ending of Days of Future Past is that EVERYTHING had changed. Dead people were alive and the world was no longer a post apocalyptic (no pun intended) hellscape. The original movies led to that now non-existent future.

So Apocalypse looks interesting... A bunch of negative stuff on social media over Storm and Apocalype's look so far.

    Storm's pretty much dead on.
