UFC Pick'em RELOADED

That's right jabronis, I'm bringing this back.

A few changes from the previous installments:

Only the main card fights will be scored. Too many preliminary fights amongst scrubs, many of whom don't even have Wikipedia pages making fight picks totally random and up for luck at times. At least with known fighters educated guesses can be made.

You will earn 10 points for correctly guessing the winner, 5 points for guessing the method, and 5 points for guessing the round. While you have to guess the winner correctly to be eligible for the round and method points, you do not have to be correct about method to get round credit and vice-versa. For example, had we run this for UFC 166:

-Cain, R2, KO would net you 15 points, 10 for guessing the winner and 5 for guessing the method. Cain, R5, Submission would also net you 15 points, as you would still be given credit for guessing the round despite not guessing the method. Of course Cain, R5, KO would get you all of the available 20 points.

If a fight goes to decision and you guess that accurately, you will be given 7 points. For example:

-Melendez, Decision would have earned 17 points. Likewise guessing Melendez KO R3 would have only netted you 10. I feel this offers an element of strategy, as you have to be careful calling a fight by decision and also careful about deciding if it will be finished.

A 10-point bonus will be available for accurately calling a fighter who wins a bonus, BUT YOU HAVE TO ACCURATELY CALL THE BONUS. For example:

-Dodson, KOTN would earn you 10 bonus points. But Dodson, SOTN would earn you zero. And you only get to pick one fighter per card to try your luck at extra credit.

Anybody and everybody can participate and is urged to. I don't care if you never even post in this forum, don't let that keep you from participating. Feel free to post your picks (in spoiler tags) in this thread but for them to be official you must PM them to me. I only ask that you title your message something like "UFC Pick'em Picks" followed by the event number, to help me keep everything organized.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have. The first event will be UFC 167: St-Pierre vs Hendricks, on November 16. I'll post the main card for that shortly.

Yeah, I was planning on doing this for FOX cards and numbered events. A few Fight Nights have been good but most are fairly meh (in terms of star power I mean) so I don't believe I'll be doing this for any of those unless they give us a stacked one.

Sorry Pablo, just try to look at it as you being a recently-signed Strikeforce champion entering the UFC. Mik charges in early and gets caught on the button by a perfectly timed short elbow. His legs give out and Pablo pounces with brutal GnP, bouncing Mik's head off the mat like a basketball forcing the ref to charge in and save his life.

Mark Hammer (50) def Seanny One Ball (40) by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) to become next in line to challenge for Pablo's title. Seanny has his moments and brief shifts in momentum but ultimately The Hammer is able to shut him down en route to a clear UD.

Lagom (55) def "Dr." Fanny Batter (30) via TKO at 3:23 of the second round. Lagom is able to land takedowns at will throughout the fight and implements a heavy grind game until securing a mounted crucifix and landing several unchecked elbows, forcing the ref to stop the fight.

Pick 'Em Heavyweight Championship Bout
Mark Hammer (70) def Pablo Diablo(c) (45) via Technical Knockout at 2 minutes and 14 seconds of the second round to become your new Pick 'Em Heavyweight Champion. After scoring an arguable 10-8 first round and nearly finishing the champ, Mark Hammer finishes the job in the second. He drops Pablo with a brutal knee, then again as Pablo returns to his feet forcing him to turtle up. The ref steps in to prevent any further damage and awards Hammer the fight.

Mik (60) def Lagom (35) by Knockout at 1 minute 2 seconds of the very first round and is the new number one contender. From the opening bell Mik lights Lagom up with his far superior striking. Lagom fails a desperation takedown attempt but is able to push Mik to the cage for some wall-n-stall. Mik is able to regain control though and upon breaking from the clinch he catches Lagom with a beautiful right hook on the button. Lagom drops like a sack of potatoes prompting the ref to dive in and stop the fight.

Fanny "Mr." Batter (50) def Bert (25) via Submission at 4 minutes 52 seconds of the very first round. After a relatively boring round consisting mainly of Batter maintaining dominant ground position he is able to sneak in a slick arm triangle, forcing the tap at the end of the round.

The only one I've settled on so far is Aldo by TKO. The rest I'm struggling to pick between. Barao should be favourite against Faber, but it's a difficult one given the circumstances. If Overeem comes in focused, I fancy him to knee Mir's head off, but that can never be guaranteed with Reem. Lineker and Bagautinov should be a hell of a fight, and I'm leaning towards Bagautinov, but still not certain.

Pick 'Em Heavyweight Championship Bout
Mik (54) def Mark Hammer(c) (30) via Tapout to a Rear Naked Choke at 3:26 of Round 3 to become the new, 2-time PERL Heavyweight Champion. Mik takes control of the cage early but Hammer is able to neutralize his aggressive opponent by securing a takedown and possibly stealing the first round. Round 2 is more of the same but Mik is able to tag and rock Hammer a couple of times. Continuing to gain momentum going into the third round Mik counters a sloppy overhand with a hook of his own and drops the champion. Mik dives onto his back and without too much struggle is able to lock in a RNC, forcing the tap.

Seanny One Ball (47) def Pablo Diable (40) via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). After a wild back-and-forth brawl in the first round that leaned slightly towards Pablo, Seanny One Ball is able to turn the tides in his favor and takes the 2nd and 3rd rounds. An entertaining crowd-friendly scrap, both competitors come out of this fight looking good.

Torn (47) def Lagom (20) via Knockout at 4 minutes 13 seconds of the very first round. Lagom gets tagged early and often, but is seemingly able to save himself when he counters a kick with a perfectly timed takedown. Lagom attempts to LnP his dangerous opponent while he regains composure but it is a futile effort. Torn sweeps Lagom from the bottom then forces a standup, and it is only a matter of time until his vastly superior striking game takes it's toll. Torn lands a Marquardt-style Mortal Kombat combo and brutally drops his unconscious opponent against the cage, stiffening Lagom up in a truly vicious display of violence.
