This past week's episode was great. Instead of the Halloween Heist episode they made it a Cinco de Mayo Heist. Easily the best episode of the season so far.

QLook like next season will be the last. This is one of the best shows I’ve had the pleasure of watching. Sad to see it go but thankful it had a second chance after Fox canceled it.

I think they were worried about how the show would be perceived given what happened with George Floyd and the fact the Defund The Police movements are ongoing.

Somewhat true. You do have to remember they tossed thus season in the dumpster after the riots over the summer and started over. I eager to see the new direction of the show but I think they probably would have gone on longer had the political climate not changed so much.

Does seem a bit odd that you've got a popular police show full of likeable and diverse characters who, despite being comedic tropes are quite human and flawed and you chose to cancel it now. It seems like an opportunity missed.

This show is incredible. They said over the summer they were re-writing the entire season in light of the events over the summer. I'm glad they get to end on their own terms, instead of when Fox cancelled them at first. Love this show, and it will be a mainstay of my Office/Parks & Rec background show.
I’m very interested in what they’ll do with George Floyd and BLM because that episode with Terry being stopped while he’s looking for his daughter’s stuffed animal was incredible. They have the writing and the actors to be phenomenal.
The wife is currently watching it and I glance every few moments or so. Can't help but thinking the show would be a lot better if Andy Samberg and..I think it's Charles? weren't it. Rest of the cast is fine, don't like Gina too much but she's more tolerable than Samberg.
But I also thought Steve Carrell was just awful on the Office, but repeated viewings proved me wrong. I bet if I watched Park and Rec again maybe I'd grow to like Leslie.
This show is still great, so it's too bad it's ending, but I agree that it's good to go out on their terms and 160 episodes (or whatever the final count will be) is plenty.

I'm just gonna say, as someone who has barely watched the show and is not pro-cop, it's stupid the show was cancelled. Whether you like cops or not doesn't mean you can't make a funny show about them.
They decided to end it before it got canceled. It's ratings since moving to NBC were close to the same as it was on Fox but also 14th for NBC shows from what I read. It's also possible that ratings drop this season because some people can't separate real life from entertainment. I mean there's idiots that complain about a police dog being in Paw Patrol.

I think I was just mistaken based on comments last year since I don't really follow the show.
I’m pretty sure that there was a statement released at the cancellation time saying how tv stations don’t really want to fund cop based programmes considering the current political climate. It’s a shame though because a. It’s still very funny, the latest season was great and b. It’s perfectly set up to challenge some of the issues with policing in a sensitive way. There was an episode a couple of seasons back where Terry was racially profiled and it shook his faith in policing and it was very well done.

Haha, why would I? I don't really care if it was an official statement or not, I'm not really looking to debate the matter and therefore don't have enough skin in the game to motivate me to digging around trying to find one.
The point is that I can believe that was one of the reasons that led to it's cancellation (seems though I didn't read many other good reasons) and I felt that if so, it was a little short sighted and a shame considering how the show would've been well positioned to address some of those concerns.

The bottom line is that 99 got 8 seasons and that's pretty good for any show. Especially one that was cancelled once already.

First episode back was pretty damn good. Tugged on the heart strings a little bit especially with holt. Overall I think they did a great job conveying many different aspects of everything that happened last year.
I liked the second episode a lot more. The first just had a lot of forced dialogue and exposition. It was nice to see Dr. Cox.
It's interesting they're doing 2 episodes a week, it's going to be over quick.
It's weird that the finale isn't going to be on 9/9 and is on 9/16. Episodes 7 and 8 are on 9/2, I don't understand why they're skipping a week. Some concern about 9/11? I don't get it.
Seems the format of this season is going to be 1 episode grrrr cops bad we must fix it and then a normal episode.
I hope this isn't the case.
