I still prefer Yahoo. I dunno, something about their general fantasy layout that just seems a lot simpler and more accessible. I have heard that ESPN is better with auto drafting, which is an area Yahoo is admittedly shite at (no matter how thoroughly you set your rankings Yahoo will give you multiple kickers, it seems).

Anyway that was just a matter of discussion, I'm fine with doing ESPN if it means more people will join.

Pretty much the same thinking here. I'm down to invest a bit in the league, but I'd greatly prefer ESPN to Yahoo as well.

K so we've got 5 people interested including myself. A couple more and we could be in business. 10 would be the ideal number.

I'm in as well but as Dave said this is one draft none of us would want to miss, we would really have to nail the date down.

Oh and I would definitely prefer ESPN.

Ok so we've got a good crew here. It'll be ESPN.

Let's start throwing out some ideas to get the ball rolling...

    1. How much do you want the buy in to be? Like I said I was thinking somehere between $20 and $40.
    2. When's a good draft time??
    3. In terms of positions/scoring, I'd say ESPN standard should be our starting point but off hand I'm not sure exactly what that is (is there a flex?). I like a flex if there isn't one. But throw out any ideas you want for settings.

ESPN standard has a flex. We should just stick with that, no point messing with it.

Plenty of time to organise a draft time yet but I'm pretty flexible as long as it's not in the middle of the night UK time.

$20 sounds fine for year 1.

You thought about using LeagueSafe (http://www.leaguesafe.com/) for the funds, Fro? People might be more comfortable with that, also lets them pay how they want I guess.

Do you mean August 1? That would be fine. The earlier the better but the deadline for payment would be the draft.

Not in if the draft is before preseason week 3 though because everyone I draft will probably break their legs that week.

I was setting up an account on leaguesafe and it appears that if you allow credit card payments then everyone gets hit with a 3% fee. If you do e-payments only (ie wire it from your bank account) then you get no fees. The 3% fee would only be 60 cents each on a $20 buy in so I assume we'd just do that.

I'll get the ESPN and leaguesafe invites out tonight.

$20 buy in means we'll have a $200 pool. I'm thinking $160 for the champion and $40 for the runner up, unless people prefer everything go to the champion..

Nice one. I don't mind the runner up getting some of the pool but I also like maybe the regular season winner getting a small slice? As the playoffs are a bit of a lottery as we know. Another idea to throw out there I guess.

    Enjoy.

In terms of draft time, since we have people from different continents I reckon it's going to have to be a weekend, sometime between 11am and 5pm US eastern time (4pm - 10pm London time). The weekend immediately before the season starts is Sept 1 which is a holiday weekend over here, so I'm thinking the weekend prior is what we should target (Aug 24-25).

Let me know if that works, and which day (Sat vs Sun) and times are preferable.

For the payout, I like the idea of awarding some amount to the regular season champ. Do we want to just do regular season champ and league champ, leaving out the runner up? I feel like if we pay to all 3 it would be split a little thin.

A COUPLE SPOTS ARE STILL OPEN. It's only a $20 buy in, post if you're interested.

    Thinking out loud here..

150 to league champ, 50 to regular season champ

    Or

140 to league champ, 40 to regular season champ, 20 to finals runner up

I definitely can't do that weekend - it's a holiday weekend over here and I'm at Reading Festival and in a field with no internet access the whole weekend.

Alright gentlemen. We've still got 8 people who expressed interest in playing for some cash:

    1. Fro
    2. Torn
    3. Matthew
    4. Dave
    5. dubya
    6. Christopherson
    7. Dr Isaac Yankem DDS
    8. Bert

If anyone else wants to play, speak up! We're only playing for $20.

To those on the above list: are you still down? Are you okay with an 8-player league if that's what we've got? Personally I'm fine with it, 8 is enough. If that's the case we'd have a pool of $160. I'm thinking $60 to the regular season champion and $100 to the playoff champion. That's some decent scratch. But we need to get this locked down soon-ish. Obviously everyone wants to make the draft if they're putting money down. I just found out I'm going to be gone the weekend of Aug 17-18. Dave is unavailable the weekend of Aug 24-25. So we're looking at the weekend immediately preceding the season, Aug 31-Sept 1, which is ideal except that it's a holiday weekend in the states. Personally I don't have plans to go away that weekend so I could do it. Thoughts????

I can't do the Saturday, but could do the Sunday. Probably. Annoyingly the weeks immediately before the start of the season are when I spend most time at festivals.

    Draft is currently set for:

    Date: Sun, Sep 1, 2013
Time: 12:00 PM ET (New York Time)

This is looking like the day it's gonna have to be.

To everyone playing: GET REGISTERED! We've got plenty of time but I want to get this moving so people don't flake. Everyone should have gotten an invite to the ESPN league via email (except Matthew who I still need an email from), and here is the link to the payment site:

    https://www.leaguesafe.com/join/1518...ntasy-football

You don't need to pay yet as we're still getting things settled but please register

We have it set for noon eastern time right now... is that too early for you? I'm guessing people would be okay if we pushed it back an hour or two (2pm ET would be 7pm London)

Yeah, it's just a bit too early cuz I'm generally getting off work around 11:30 (CT) on Sundays.. if you could move it back just a bit to say.. 1:30 (ET), that would give me enough time to get home, etc.

    K. I'm good with whenever. 2pm eastern/7pm London will be the earliest we'll do, but we could push it back as much as 5pm eastern/10 PM London

I will get my fee paid up on the 23rd.

Is there any way to add to the pot throughout the season?
Maybe some $5 side-bets here and there, with the $ going into the winner pot and the loser just changes their avatar for the week or something?
    Just a thought ..

I have been in a pay league for a couple years now...I came 3rd the first year and 2nd last year... it is a ten team league. Standard espn scoring system... I have second overall pick, who would you take? Foster? Petersen? Doug Martin? Let me know boys

if ap is available at 2, you take him. that's about as big of a no brainer as you can get. if he isn't, go foster or martin. charles is to injury prone.

yeah, im assuming ap goes first. if he doesn't I take him no questions asked. But I'm thinking he goes first, then I guess I'll take foster? but he has injury problems as well. It is a snake draft, so my next pick won't be for ages, but I'll still probably go RB RB RB. This has been my strategy and it usually works. Although, first year I had 10th pick and Rogers was there so I grabbed him. Then I went RB RB RB. Last year was all RB.

We have 10 but my guess is at least one person will bail. I'm gonna give the current members another week to pay and then I'll open it up to alternates.

He's really no more injury-prone than AP .. he's just had the one major injury in his career.

I've seen AP and AF go first in pretty much every mock I've done .. every now and then you get the odd Rodgers or Marshawn pick, but it's almost always AP or AF and then a slew of RBs to follow.

Foster is making me nervous as hell this year. The man has had so much wear and tear, and his stats have been declining. Martin had one great year, which is propped up slightly by one amazing game, but he's unproven and who knows how Josh Freeman will be. Lynch is getting older and might be a great pick, but I think the Seahawks offense was a mirage last year and I don't think anybody keeps up those stats. Rice will be sharing time with Pierce. The only running back in the top 5 whose stats might reasonably be expected to IMPROVE is Charles, who is going to be getting a boatload of balls thrown his way and more carries overall. He might get injured and he might not, but he has more potential upside than anyone in this draft.

When do you get off work? It's a 5 hour time difference, so anytime before 8 is probably reasonable.

6 people are paid. I believe Dubya, Torn, Bert and Matthew are the ones who still need to pay (correct me if I'm wrong).

In terms of draft time, we can push it back to later in the day but can't make it too late for the UK folks. Bert, I forget where you are located but if you are working until 7:30pm eastern time then that is tough since an 8pm start would be 1am in London. If it is the case that you can't make the draft, would you be out or okay with an autodraft?

If no one opposes, we should push it back another few hours so that Myles doesn't have to get up at 4am.

    Something like:
    5pm New York/10pm London/7am Sydney
    or
    6pm New York/11pm London/8am Sydney

I'd have problems going later than 10pm. I get back from a festival that afternoon, and will likely be dead on my feet #draftexcusealreadyprepared

Not really okay with autodraft, if I'm paying I want to be there to get the best people I can.

I'll see if kangus wants my spot.

Gotcha. I just changed it to 4:30pm New York/9:30pm London/6:30am Sydney. I believe that would be Monday morning for Myles, so I'm not sure if he has work or anything.

Yeah, 11-730 on sunday and 130-10 on friday and saturday.

My work really doesn't want me doing fantasy drafts apparently.

I'm fine with anytime, I work afternoons, so anytime in the morning is fine for me. I don't mind getting up in the middle of the night either, I'll just go back to sleep after I draft my all star lineup.

Anyone want Bert's spot? $20 buy in, draft on sept 1.

7 people have paid btw. Missing Dubya (who is planning to pay tomorrow) and Matthew.

Sweet. 8 people are paid. Sinner, I'll get you the ESPN invite when I get home tonight.

We've got a week yet but now would be a good time to finalize the nitty gritty:

    1. Payout... Are we good with $150 to league champion and $50 to regular season champion? I'm definitely open to suggestion on this but that seems fair.
    2. Draft... Sept 1 is the date but we have some leeway on time. It's currently set for 4:30 PM New York/9:30 PM London /6:30 AM Sydney (actually I think it's Sept 2 for Sydney but I'll let you figure that out Myles). This is about the later limit so that our Brittish folk don't have to stay up but it could potentially be moved earlier. If no one objects it's going to stay where it's at, so speak now or forever hold your peace.
    3. Rules- everything is standard ESPN rules.
