He is indeed legendary. 11 catches in the Super Bowl, helped put that so called fearsome Seattle defense to shame. And now that he has his ring he can go to NYG and lose 10 games a year without feeling bad about it.

    No PPR though.

Whilst we're at it, no one gives a shit about return yardage. I'm sure Antonio Brown's (the 4th leading punt returner in the league) 12 points of punt return yardage over a season makes a whole bunch of difference. The top 25 in kick return yards contained nobody fantasy relevant (besides Devin Hester? I wouldn't own him but you can call him that if you want) and 3 defensive backs. And adding yardage doesn't make more than maybe a few players more relevant anyway, and these players are few and far between because most teams do not want a player who is already a big part of their offense risking injury on returning kicks in the first place. If you want to recognise return yardage it should be as part of special teams, you know the actual position we have in the game we draft that coves aspect. In all honesty I don't actually care that it's been added to the league because it's pretty irrelevant, but going on about it being stupid that it's not a part of the game already whilst not seeing the point in PPR is incredible.

The return yard thing is not me wanting to change how players are valued, I already said it's a very insignificant change. I just think, as a football observer, that if someone returns a punt 40 yards, or is the kickoff returner for his team and racks up 50 return yards throughout the game, that's a contribution to his team and it should be rewarded with fantasy relevance. Not a lot of fantasy relevance, as I think 1 point per 10 return yards would be too much since a return yard is not as well earned as a rush yard or receiving yard, but they are still moving the ball and helping the field position to their team and it should factor in. Also if a guy scored a 40 yard receiving TD they get 10 points (TD plus yardage). I feel if a guy returns a kick return 100 yards for a TD, that should be 10 points as well rather than just 6. It doesn't make a meaningful difference in who you should draft, I just like it from a logical perspective that being a returner is being valuable to your team even if you don't take it to the house. Maybe if you have 2 guys who are about equal you will start the guy who also returns kicks as the tiebreaker in your decision. I like that.

As for PPR, I hear you guys and I'll feel it out in the VIP league and maybe I'll come around next season or I'll put it to a vote. Again I look at these things from more of a football fan perspective rather than what would make fantasy football the coolest cuz you can draft Shane Vereen and Darren Sproles really high and de-prioritize the QB position. I'm good with QBs being the highest scorers because they are obviously the most important position in the game and involved in by far the most plays. I don't think catching a near sideways pass and getting tackled right away for no gain is as good as a rushing for 10 yards or throwing for 25 yards. I also don't think a 10 yard catch should be worth 2 points while 10 yard rush is worth 1 since the are accomplishing the same thing. That's my thinking right now but I'm open minded. I'd be interested in looking at a fantasy scoring list of the top 2014 fantasy scorers using ESPN standard rules plus PPR.

This is a good point. I don't want to open a can of worms but my take on this is that I don't like that ESPN uses "Defense/Special Teams" and I preferred the old days on Yahoo Fantasy where Defense was simply Defense: sacks, picks, fumble recoveries, defensive return TDs, blocked kicks and points allowed (and yards allowed if you want) and nothing else. It's simple and makes perfect sense to call it DEFENSE. I don't get the logic of awarding a kick return TD or punt return TD to a defense and turning it into D/ST. That's weird to me. If I had my ideal scoring, I would take kick return TDs away from Defense but again I don't want to open a can of worms and go crazy with tweaks and move away from the standard (unless you guys agree with me lol). Even with standard scoring it's already a potential double down - if you have Julian Edelman and the Patriots D/ST, and he returns a punt for a TD, you get awarded that twice and get 12 points. That's dumb to me. But given that D/ST is what we have, your point is a good one.

I'm not going mental btw, I actually enjoy discussing this stuff

Mmmm a bit dramatic I'd say. I'm not yet convinced PPR is a valid set up but I'll commission an investigation to determine its validity. Ted Wells is free for hire now right?

You're stupid and Fro is stupid but yeah let's have return yards.

Oh wow let me look at punt returners calling fair catches, wow so glad I put thought into that selection with my last pick instead of thinking about slot receivers and tight ends and third down backs who now are viable middle to early round picks.

I'm not even in the league right now though so what do I give a fuck.

I don't understand why you won't do ppr when the vast majority of the people doing the league want it.

Well I think I've already laid out my reasons but to reiterate and expand for you, a catch for no gain shouldn't be worth the same as a 10 yard rush or 25 passing yards, and a 10 yard reception shouldn't be worth double a 10 yard rush based on how these plays contribute to the game of football. I'm also not sure where you're getting "vast majority" from. I count 4 people who have come out in favor of it out of 13. Actually 3 because Torn said he's not advocating for it here since he likes variety in the Rajah league even though he likes PPR. We're already in an era where receivers are highly viable in fantasy, in fact using standard scoring there's currently very good balance between WR and RB. There were 8 RBs who scored 200 or more fantasy points last year, and 7 WRs who did the same. If you look at the highest scoring RB and 20th scoring RB, their fantasy points were 294 and 138, respectively. If you look at the same for WRs, they were 270 - 143. About the same right? This is good balance. PPR disrupts this balance and makes WRs far more valuable. Yes RBs catch the ball too but not nearly as many times. And in terms of depth at each position, WRs already win that battle using standard scoring. The 50th ranked WR scored 100 fantasy points last year while the 50th ranked RB scored only 71 points. PPR would make low end RBs un-ownable.

So yea, I prefer the current balance between RB and WR. As for QB, yes they score higher but you also only start 1 of them instead of 2 or 3, so that makes sense and is also perfectly reflective of the QB being the most important position on a football team.

If the goal is to make fantasy scoring less reliant on touchdowns, there is a pretty simple way to do that: lower the points awarded for touchdowns. If the goal is to make QBs less high scoring, there are ways to do that too. PPR rewards a particular stat far more than it should be rewarded. But I'm very open to hearing rebuttal to these points.

I'm easy on this, the scoring issues aside (which doesn't really bother me), the only thing I dislike about PPR is it's really REALLY hard to get back into contention if you get off to a bad start.

What about .5PPR, give a boost to tight ends and third down backs but don't make WRs overpowered?

    No? FUCK.

    PAID.

From what I can see, draft time of 3.30pm EST on Sunday 16th August (so 8.30pm BST, 12.30pm PST, 5.30am AEST on the Monday) has been commented by

    1 - Torn - OK
2 - Matthew - is pushing the start time back by a couple of minutes each day
    3 - Christopherson - OK
    4 - Knee
    5 - Myles - would prefer later
    6 - Dave - OK
    7 - Fro - OK
    8 - Caito
    9 - Mikey_Jones
    10 - Beefy
    11 - hithit - Should be good
    12 - Judas

I could go to 10pm BST on that day, but can we get it locked down as soon as possible.

I pushed it to 4PM EST. If other international folks are okay with going an hour later to 5PM EST / 10PM BST then that might be cool for Myles but it seems at least we'll be drafting on August 16th in this 2 hour window unless someone speaks up soon (August 17 for Myles). This is a pretty early draft date (3.5 weeks before the opener) but it works well for me because the end of August into Labor day is super busy with moving and weddings and vacations.

This is gonna sound really dumb coming from me since I argued for it but I've kinda changed my mind on the KR/PR yards. While I still like it in theory, I've now realized the ESPN site doesn't work well with custom stat categories (as Yahoo does) and it's impossible to see KR yards when looking at your team page or the free agent players page so it's like a hidden stat category, and a number of players do get a significant amount of KR yards. Let's stick with ESPN standard. LOL. Sorry.

Still 4 paid. The quicker you guys pay the quicker I can set the draft order. Plus Chris Scott is waiting to take your spot. Once we get into August, within 2 weeks of the draft, your spot could be given away. So consider Aug 1 the deadline to ensure you get in the league.

I've since mended things with one of my IRL league owners, so if anyone wants a spot they can have mine, otherwise I'll stay, pay up and take your money.

Chris Scott... We have a live draft where you select your team. The draft order snakes meaning the last pick of the first round picks first in the second round, so it's fair no matter what spot you get. After the draft you can still pick up players who were undrafted and drop players, or make trades with other teams.

Once the season starts you set your starting lineup every week with the following positions:

    QB
    RB
    RB
    WR
    WR
    TE
Flex (can be a RB, WR or TE)
    Defense/Special Teams
    Kicker

Then based on who you start you are awarded points for whatever they do that day on the field. For instance running back and wide receivers get 6 points per touchdown and 1 point per 10 yards of receiving or rushing. So if your starter gets 100 yards rushing and a touchdown, that's 16 points. QBs get 4 points for a passing TD and 1 point for every 25 passing yards - see the league settings for complete scoring details - these can vary by league but we are using ESPN standard scoring. Then at the end of the week you add up all your points from your starters and if you got more points than your opponent for the week, you win. Then at the end of our 13-week fantasy season the top 6 teams by record make the playoffs and face off to see who is champion.

We haven't decided the payout system yet but the playoff champion will win most of the pot, but some money will also be awarded to the playoff runner up and regular season champion.

We can see (by checking with the Europeans) if we can push it back 1 hour to 5pm ET, 7am your time. Is that something you might be interested in?

Caito and Judas are the only 2 left to pay.

I am not interested in pushing it back. If it does I will not be there for the later half as I have a playoff baseball game.

Cool beans, the draft stays at 4PM ET (NYC), August 16th.

We should decide the payout system now. Last year we did:

    $280 to playoff champion
    $80 to regular season champion
    $40 to playoff runner up

This year we will have an extra $80 in the pot since we have 12 players. My suggestion is we keep it pretty similar:

    $330 to playoff champion
    $100 to regular season champion
    $50 to playoff runner up

But I'm also open to changing it around if people prefer something different.

Sorry might want to look for a replacement. Don't believe I have the mental capacity to keep up with four leagues. If you don't have anyone by Monday I'll still pay up but don't know how active I'll be during the season.

We should decide the payout system now. Last year we did:

    $280 to playoff champion
    $80 to regular season champion
    $40 to playoff runner up

This year we will have an extra $80 in the pot since we have 12 players. My suggestion is we keep it pretty similar:

    $330 to playoff champion
    $100 to regular season champion
    $50 to playoff runner up

But I'm also open to changing it around if people prefer something different.
    Sounds good that.

there are a lot of tips that websites have if you just search for them

espn even has 'mock drafts' you can do all the time, to test the system and see where players land. it isn't with the people here, obviously, and you will get some people making weird picks from time to time, but you can see where people put at importance on, draft wise.

i know a bunch of people mock draft a lot

Mock drafts are good, especially if you know what draft position you're in. As soon as Caito and Beefy pay *cough cough* I will set the draft order and enable draft pick trading.

None. Top 6 best records make the playoffs. Top 2 teams get first round byes.

I would think the final 2 teams would split more of the pie than the regular season champ? Give second place a higher total than the regular season winner?

I feel you. I like to give the regular season champ a solid portion because to me that's the a harder earned accomplishment than coming in 2nd in the playoffs, which can be flukey. But then again W-L records in the regular season are flukey too. We could split the difference:

    $320 to champion
    $80 to runner up
    $80 to regular season champion

    Or:

    $300 to champion
    $100 to runner up
    $80 to regular season champion
