So to detract from the Griffin bashing for a second can I ask how the progress show was? I've seen a few tweets from people regarding the greatest scottish professional wrestler having a classic comedy match and jimmy havoc is the champ?! Love me a bit of jimmy havoc.

The Progress show was, as always, fucking incredible.

Honestly couldn't fault it. Anyone who has an ounce of interest in wrestling in the UK should try for a ticket tomorrow (on sale from 10pm and last time sold out in 31 minutes).

I do fancy a show at some point in the near future with Xmas and mania though I cannot justify it this year.

    Life goes on.

Grado was fucking hilarious. Slow motion wrestling and doing a conga with 70 people in the middle of a wrestling match... Glorious. The storylines are genuinely brilliant too. Gllllleeeennnn?

Seems so. I'm loving this British wrestling resurgence of late and delighted that a bit of rajah is part of this growing trend. Well don't glen! Missed icw last night but was reading on twitter that Micky whiplash had a horrific injury against grado.

Glen I want you to book an invasion of icw and run shows in glasgow please. Thanks

Aye he was doing a dive through the ropes on Grado, and a metal rod from the metal barrier went deep into his thigh, horrific stuff.

On a more positive note, they're doing a James Scott vs Joe Coffey Iron Man next month, that should be a cracker.

So I was speaking to Grado tonight, and apparently he is a member of these forums, his name is something shit like stonecoldfan. I've told him to pop on for a post. Got his number so I'll drop him a text tomorrow but yeah. He teamed with Vader tonight and it was fun

Sounds like we may well need to have a UK Rajah meet up at one of these events. Having seen some videos of Grado on youtube, I'm really intrigued and would love to go see a show

Yeah, I follow the guy on twitter, looked brutal from the photos that he RT'd. Hope he'll be able to come back. Is Mikey Whiplash (or any other top British wrestlers) much good? The only stuff of his I've seen are his matches against Justin Gabriel in South Africa, which I really like. It's hard to get a good read on whether the guy's actually good from them though because at that time Gabriel just didn't have bad matches. Spotty, with some insane booking but fun as hell. Since I know nothing abotu the British wrestling scene I haven't looked out for any more matches of his, as I don't know who's actually worth watching other than possibly Whiplash. There's one of their matches, for reference.

If you are asking if any British wrestlers are good, there are a ton. Martin Kirby,Kris Travis,Robbie X,The Hunters,El Ligero,Mark Haskins,Zack Sabre and Stixx are all guys I rate highly.Jimmy Havoc too but hes a hardcore wrestler. I only follow Southside so there are a lot of talents I havent got the chance to see in action.

Sort of. Like I say, the only matches of a notable wrestler on the British scene I've seen are against a wrestler I mark for and rate very highly. It's like if your only exposure to Tyson Kidd was matches with Finlay you'd have a tough time working out if he was good or being carried. Since I don't know anyone else on the scene and would rather stay away from matches that I'm unlikely to find appealing (basically, I don't want to watch a match where I don't know that one of the guys is good) I'm in a tough spot. I don't know those names from Frank Hale. I shall youtube them tomorrow, if I have some spare time.

If I ever made it to the UK I would try to make it to one of the ICW shows. Just be amongst this kind of atmosphere for the entrances...

They put together a pretty damn good show. You can feel the passion from these guys from the commentators to the performers.

Well I haven't been going to shows that long so its always good to see new talent, and people seem happy with the announcement, just have to see who they face.

Stevie boy (on the left) is quite the talent. He's got a great look and has a normal gimmick out with the Bucky boys.

That's Davie Boy is it no? Stevie is the wee runt boy. Both were in EK last week with thier normal gimmicks. Davie has a great build and could do some damage in America.

Also i dont know if ive mentioned this but Grado is my best mate in the world (I spoke to him twice)

We've got a few mutual pals. Went up and spoke to him during the last EK show for a bit, spoke to him on FB once or twice, so just went up and said hello after the show on sat. I had spanked a bottle of MD at the show so was a bit tipsy but we had a good chat about Rajah for some reason along with various other things.

So, it's all been a bit mental at PROGRESS:

We sold out chapter 10 (our January show) in 31 minutes, and had a hell of a show. Really unbelievable. (More on that in a second) Off the back of that we then sold out Chapter 11 (our upcoming January show) in 24 minutes. My brain fucking spinning...

So, obviously, with a waiting list nearly as long as our mailing list, it's time to move on from the Garage, so we're having our 2nd Anniversary show at The Electric Ballroom in Camden, a pretty famous Rock venue in Central London, with almost double the capacity of The Garage. It's stupid leaving money on the table if more people want to see the show, and also, we don't ant to build resentment to the product if people constantly can;t get tickets, so, on we got to The Ballroom... and yes. It does have a balcony...

So basically, show on show, we're trying to build production values and make the product more slick, more intelligent and put on the best matches. Booking so far in advance in order to stay storyline based is hard, but it's worth when you see the reaction at the end of Chapter 10. To have workers come up to you and say that was the biggest reaction they've ever heard from a live crowd, or have them say that "in my 12 years in wrestling that is the absolute best ending to a show that I've seen." is fucking mindblowing, but that's probably why my blood pressure is so high!

We're now shooting the shows in 1080p HD, and although we're not sure if there's enough market for Blu Ray's, we're releasing every show on DVD for the people who prefer them and the collectors and are also producing HD downloads of each individual match, extras and of course the full show. If anyone, particularly internationally wants to check out the product and has a few bucks to spare, you can get every show on download now from http://store.payloadz.com/results/results.aspx?m=237649
I genuinely think that Chapter 10 had something for everyone: There's strong style with Mikey Whiplash vs Tommy End, the single funniest wrestling match I've ever seen with Grado teaming with Mad Man Manson vs Project Ego (including coked up spots and a conga round the building. Yes. A conga.) and the final of the Natural Progression series with Paul Robinson vs Mark Andrews and then (I won't spoil the ending of the show) the shenanigans that followed. If you only check out one of our shows, I suggest Chapter 10. Jimmy Havoc really is a complete cunt.

It was absolutely amazing. If anyone gives Glen shit for advertising I will kick their fuck in. I can only hope 11 is good too because Im bringing a few mates I think

Ah fuck, I'd never really thought about the advertising rules! My bad. I'll happily delete it if Mods want?

Anniversary show has got about 100 tickets out of 700 left in total I think. We did nearly 450 in the first 24 hours. We're trying to see if we can sell it out without any advertising, just word of mouth and social media. which for a British show, would be a huge achievement. Still got 3 and a bit months til the show too. Mental.

From what i've seen of Progress it looks great
I booked Jim Smallman down our comedy club a while back.
If he can translate his funny to booking that would be something special

I'll link it properly later (maybe) but the mere fact you get 20% off ICW DVDs until the 31st Dec 13 using the code 'DOTCOTTON' on their online shop sums them up in a nutshell.

That and the fact their Feb show is called

Well fuck me. In some rather exciting news, well, to anyone who cares at least, the viewers of WrestleTalk TV (the only British based wrestling show on telly) just voted us the third best promotion in THE WORLD after the two big yank companies. That's a bit mental. Particularly because WrestleTalk haven't actually shown any of our matches on telly.

I used to watch it but it basically is actual toss. Just one complete useless cunt as a host, two birds who are average at best talking guff and then some bloke who is blatantly on minimum wage who has made a living off reporting on wrestling for the Daily Star. They just talk shit. I never thought I'd take things off my Sky Plus "Record Series" but I did with that as it was literally a waste of half an hour.

    Good work though Glen.

I found some interesting tweets from British talent this week regarding Ciampa and the like coming over. My favourite one was "Brilliant. Another no-name yank who's never drawn a dollar coming over here to draw even less pounds." The British are revolting.

For the record, I think Ciampa is awesome.

Its all about a good mix of international/british talent putting on top quality shows to me. As a fan who had never been to a UK show till last year I went to my first due to the prospect of Sabu in a hardcore match but have kept going due to the high quality of matches from all talent involved. The core is still very much british though. Also I love Stixx.

I'm on the fence on this once. We're very much for investing angles involving British talent rather than bringing in guys who were once on WWE TV and fancy making a quick buck and a paid holiday to England. Stixx is one of the best big men in the UK. His match with Rampage at PROGRESS Chapter 10 was one of the best Heavyweight matches I've seen. Probably ever. He's a genuinely lovely bloke too.

I can see the merits of both sides of booking I mean as a outsider Southside seem to be coming on pretty well, and you certainly are doing well. If I had means of getting down to you guys, NGW etc I would love to check out other companies, simply cant afford it at the minute.
Yep, the three shows I went to he wrestled MK Mckinnan, Haskins and Kevin Steen, Loved all three.

    Hahah amazing.

To chime in on the overseas talent. A lot of casual fans with go because of that then stay because of the british talent. A few years ago I had no idea who Grado, Whiplash, Bucky Boys, Jester, Renfrew et al were, but by getting you in the door under the lure of Cabana/Rhyno/Sabu, they're exposing more people to thier product and opening up the door to more potential fans of the homegrown stars.

Also, anyone going to Square Go then Walkabout for the rumble?

    Ha, no joy Mike.

I'm never there after they stop being cheap at 10am to be honest. Usually I'm working the day after ICW, so a couple of times I've sacked off the main event to get a bus up the road. Shame really as I missed Jester winning the title.

By all accounts (not mine because my mate never bought the tickets early enough) ICW put on another brilliant show on Sunday night. That, coupled with the fact there's a docu getting shown on BBC1 soon about ICW means I can see them exploding over the next year or so. Really exciting times.

Also, went to thier afterparty to watch the rumble. Which they did on one 50 inch tv for about 100 people, using an internet stream that cut out non stop. It was also full of fucking wierdos. So that was shit.

PROGRESS on Sunday was utterly ridiculous. It's easily the best value for money entertainment out there. Sublime wrestling, great storyline and the crowd absolutely love it. Anyone who hasn't got a ticket for the anniversary show in March needs to get one and come and meet us lot. Amazing amazing amazing.

The Progress show I went to on Sunday was without a doubt the best live Wrestling show I've ever been to and the tag match Alf is referring to was one of the best tag matches I've ever seen live or recorded. Great show, great atmosphere, loved the whole thing.

It's completely different. It's not as much of a strong style of wrestling from what I've seen of progress. Icw is much more hardcore in style.

I reckon the two are quite similar, but Progress is a bit more ROH to ICW's ECW. But yeah the London ICW show in may should be a big tester for them. Im assuming they'll get a bunch of local (possibly Progress glen?) guys in too for a bit of familiarity, but then again the likes of Grado and Jester etc wrestle across the country anyway. Think 2014 will be a really big year for british wrestling though.

    Yeah

    progress - strong style
    icw - hardcore

they already seem to share quite a lot of talent. Noam Dar, grado, jimmy havoc, tommy end, whiplash, off the top of my head have all appeared on both shows.

Glen are there any plans for progress to venture out of london?

  76. #276

Why would they. It sells out every show down here. People are travelling from all over to watch it. Only been 11 shows so it would be a tremendous risk to venture out that early.

Also as for hardcore, I much prefer actual wrestling.

The same can be said for icw up here. They are taking a risk and heading down to london for a show to promote their product in a different city.

Its not not trash hardcore btw. Their hardcore spots are always well done. From what I've seen of both promotions that is the only huge difference. Although I have not experienced progress in person yet.

Yeah it's absolutely not 'hardcore for the sake of hardcore' hardcore. It's more just like the difference between a fight scene in a 12 to an 18 film, or something like that. It's always well done and done in mind of the story of a match. I hate hardcore wrestling generally but the shows also have plenty of good technical stuff on it.

It seems like it would be when ECW with their reliance on violence invaded WWE. Everyone knew where it would end up (WWE dicking on them) so it all seemed a bit pointless, no? I haven't been to an ICW event so can only go off what you've told me (SLASH watched on the internet). I'm not saying it is not great mate, I just genuinely can't find fault in PROGRESS as the matches were all incredible and the storylines have been immense too. And the interaction with the crowd has been hilarious. Also hasn't ICW been around for like 8 years or something, and PROGRESS has been around for 11 shows and is already selling out 700+ attendance?

ICW has only really been hot for about 2 years and sold out a 2,000 seat venue in Glasgow over the summer with Frankie Boyle being involved in the main event. There's a BBC documentary about to air about it along with the very successful Vice doc coming out about it last year.

I'm not trying to have a dick measuring contest about the two companies here. It's fucking fantastic for british wrestling that they have two properly thriving companies right now. I've only seen bits and pieces of progress and it looks great, but obviously seeing more of ICW I bloody love it.

It sounds really good. PROGRESS has only had eleven shows lads so that's all I'm going off but hardcore isn't really my thing. I actually had a go at Glen for booking a hardcore match with Havoc a few shows ago (the only one they've booked over the whole time), but it turns out it was all part of the storyline which led to his betrayal of PROGRESS.

I just don't like hardcore stuff at all lads. I think it's unnecessary to add violence which could add further danger to an already dangerous profession.

Hardcore doesn't do much for me either. There are certain matches in ICW where they go down the death match route and it's fairly over the top, but for the most part they aren't over-reliant on it and I don't think they should get tarred with the brush of garbage wrestling.
Again, a lot like early ECW, they have a bit of horrible garbage stuff but the real talent is in the storytelling, the angles and the actual decent matches (and GRADO)

Fair enough as slare has said it's exciting to be in the uk and a wrestling fan right now. Progress and icw are getting ridiculously good press and I would hope that both companies who don't rely on foreign imports continue to grow.

Mark Dallas has always maintained that his number 1 goal with icw is to grow to a size where british wrestlers can be full time. That is an amazing thought I wouldn't of thought I'd of ever said and has a small possibility of becoming reality if things continue to grow the way they are.

I'm not a fan of hardcore bollocks either to be honest. I'm not even a fan at all of heavyweight wrestling (which is why I zone out whenever Rampage Brown hits the ring, despite him obviously being very very good). I'd much rather see some nippy little cunts flying all over the shop, and the technical reversal stuff Zack Sabre Junior and the like do is incredible. His match with Mark Andrews was breathtaking. Paul Robinson and Will Osprey are two of the best I've seen too. I love Paul Robinson so much.

Look what you've done Glen. Look what you've done. I know wrestlers names and everything.

ICW running in Islington raised a few eyebrows amongst our fans, but Dallas is a good guy and I think it has more to do with stuff over his head that they're having to run in London. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a fun show.

The tag match the guys were talking about was The Swords of Essex (Will Ospreay & Paul Robinson) vs Eddie Dennis & Mark Andrews. Genuinely mental match.

Would you say you get on with most companies in general? I know someone from southside was at a show of yours recently and had nothing but praise.
