    Here's the message I got:

    Dear QuickTopic users (free version):

I'm sorry to break the news to you that QuickTopic will be shutting down this year.

Here's the planned schedule, in reverse:
The final shutdown date will be December 11, 2021.
We'll disallow posting new messages starting on November 27.
Sometime before then, we'll post a message at the top of each QuickTopic page about the upcoming shutdown.

To save your message board contents, you have a few options:
    1. In the lower left corner of your message board, tap the Print link. That will take you to a page with some options.
    2. For saving the text and other info as a spreadsheet-compatible format, there's an option under the Tools menu to Download CSV (Excel) format.

It's been a wonderful experience building and running QuickTopic all this time. With 21 years since its inception, QuickTopic has been the world's longest continuously running web-based social media platform.

If you have questions or comments, feel free to reply. Best wishes to you!

    Regards,
    Steve Yost

I wonder if it's connected to the shut down that happened on QT the other day.

I saw someone today wearing a "Scum" jacket with a pair of Jordans, and I believe some Chicago merch.

I got a little worried that there's another mafia player out there gunning for Psych's title as Illinois's Greatest.

I don't consider myself that good anyway. I've just rolled cop so much and that's an easy role to play. I was just pointing out I'm in Illinois more than anything.

I'm washed up. A shadow of my former self. Bert's in his prime. He'll have to hold the title until virm returns.

What are you down to? 17 different active communities? Did you cut off the Civil War Reenactor mafia community?

My man Gillburg and Barry Hardy as the Toxic Turtles! I have this on weird DVD WWE released with no commentary because everything was from house shows. It had some fun stuff like this but it's still weird with no announcers.

Love the spot when the Turtle is on his back and his partner needs to roll him over.

After this game and sorry to bring another downer, but this will also be my last game and also scaling down my board activity in general (aside from the likes of PPV predictions). I’ve got a lot going on like selling my mother’s house so Brooklyn 99 Part II will have to wait. Also some gaming I’ve been putting off and want to resolve and trying to make some steps in my work which hopefully should be coming after my long work lay-off and getting back to where I was. I’ve been spending a lot of time on these boards and while I love y’all, for the time being need to get myself out there.

Not a goodbye but a “Smell ya later” as Nelson would say. Enjoy the next game or two without me. Will try and make it back for Videoland 3 x

Speaking from somone who is back from medical reasons I'm the last person who will fault you.

    Great runs.

Always miss having you on the boards more, but as someone who has taken time off before, sometimes its the best way to prioritize.

Except for when its time to defend the titles.

Bert, you're more than 10 years younger than me, which automatically commits you to tech support.

    Sorry. Dem's the breaks.

Psycho, have you ever made a server on discord before? I haven't, so I'd have to look into how you setup roles and stuff so that people can't see things they're not supposed to or know who is in what channel.

I can definitely help out with that. I haven't done much of making my own server for a dead chat, but the settings are definitely manageable to figure it out easily.

Honestly, I've never set anything up on it. Just hit a couple chats.

For those of you who know, unless anyone else has one they want to put out-it might be time to save the Canadian Goose.

I guess we can just switch the admin role back and forth between game runners. Because obviously if Psycho is playing you don't want him to know who's in the scum chat.

Does that work? You can remove complete visibility?

I know you can set channels so only certain roles see them and you can assign people those roles. Basically like how only mods see the mod forum here.

But, usually when you click on a name in the user list it will show all of the roles someone is assigned, Psycho has said people play mafia on discord before so there must be a way to hide the "Scum" role from being visible on a user's profile.

Step 1 is probably just getting the server set up and getting everyone that usually plays setup with discord and joined into the server.

I don't think so. JP or his friend set that one up. VHS also made one for a chat during wrestling shows.

    quick google search:

    https://www.mafiacafe.net/forum/stan...iscord-servers

only skimmed it, but this seems to be a pretty basic guide for setting things up. would probably be even simpler, since we will only have the necessary off-forum chats there and not the entire game taking place within discord

I reached out to Tyson since the next one might be Letterkenny (unless anyone else wants to jump in front).

I've got it set up as a decent game for folks to get their feet wet on.

I'm messing with this but it seems like whoever makes the server will always be the server admin who then adds other admins.

So whoever it is will probably need 2 discord accounts and just have to use the honor system that they won't cheat when playing, unless there's something I'm missing, which is possible since I'm trying everything on my phone.

Or maybe we just create a gamerunner gmail email and password to create the server and change the password every time for the new gamerunner. That might work better.

I'll mess with it on my laptop shortly and see if I learn anything new.

we could always set up a discord account of GAME MASTER and the runner of a game signs into it and changes the password to something of their choosing for that game, so no one else can access it. next game the new game master gets access to the account and changes the password for that game.

bit tedious and annoying, but seems perfectly doable.

On MU we just made a new server for each game. One for scum chat and one for deadchat(which would sometimes be split into roles of spoiled and non-spoiled). If that seems like too much work for peeps, the Game Master account could work. It would just involve a lot of shuffling of roles for efery game and honestly I feel making new servers per chat would ultimately be less tedious.

You might be right. I really don't know. Doesn't MU play the entire game in discord though? It'd be a little different for us when we're only using it for Dead/Scum/Mason chats.

This obv would depend on who has FB but would setting up FB private group chats for scum et al negate the need for setting up Discord servers, passwords et al?

    Just an alternative idea.

And if it’s a hassle setting up private Discord channels, people who don’t use FB could just set one up to use the Messenger option and we set up group chat from there. Using Rajah names if not wanting to use real names.

    Whatever’s the easiest.

Dust them mafia boots off then. Started a character list and will be working on this the next couple weeks.

Why? Because they were on the same network? They are to completely different shows. One is generic simple humor and the other is brilliance.

I'm not saying it in a bad way. Friends is like big bang theory. It's silly stupid humor that appeals to the masses. I won't lie on the number of times Joey cracked me up in the same way Sheldon cracked me up. Put it this way. Friends is like Aerosmith in the 90s. Putting out hit after hit that was just rewrites of previous hits with a different melody while Seinfeld was like Nirvana. An out of nowhere hit making machine that just sparked a whole new way of music.

I wasn’t making a direct comparison between the two shows, I was using a Friends reference over how Jarrod was being tempting with a Seinfeld game.

Bro! You're making it worse. Big Bang Theory is just cringy jokes that are "nerdy." Friends is actually funny. I've never been able to get into Seinfeld but Curb Your Enthusiasm is great.

I played a song by operation ivy in a punk band I was in. Weird story how that band came about but nonetheless.

Anywho @Fro is probably one of the good, definitely pretty good, pretty good, pretty good experts on the forum when it comes to TV and movies. #validated.

Why are you doing the thing where you say "it's a weird story" but don't tell the story.

Do you need to be enticed? Forget that.

    Get to the story.

Nah the Friends/BBT comparison is not quite accurate. For one, the male characters in Friends had different professions and BBT the male characters worked in one setting in the uni. BBT make guys were rough around the edges when it came to women and still getting there whereas the Friends guys had moved past that and been there (ie Ross) and they had a strong womaniser (ie Joey) and Chandler was moderately successful before he got with Monica whereas the BBT guys minus Leonard were basically completely shit with women. Ross/Sheldon you could make a slight comparison between but a faint one as Ross actually had a great deal of success over the course despite his awkwardness.

On the female side, though Monica was neurotic, again they generally had success whereas Penny was the strong confident female lead but Amy and Bernadette were less confident and looked up to Penny somewhat (especially Amy).

Vague comparison can be made between somewhat similar situations but it¬’s faint. BBT was more niche set in the geeky guys vs gals battle of the sexes whereas Friends they were all different personalities that came together.

Bottom line though here is Friends actually influenced pop culture humour amongst young adults (and subtle raunchy humour) whereas Big Bang was more niche in the geeks trying to make it in the real world.

For fuck sake Badger the comparison was about joke style not characters.

Also, big bang theory was the highest rated comedy show in forever. Even taking in fact during and streaming the show was getting over 20 million viewers per episode. Now if you are going apples to apples friends shames big bang as they had 20 to 50 million viewers per episode but if you factor in there were no dvr or streaming back then its really hard to tell. Big Bang was huge in pop culture. I don't even get why you think they weren't. They were the #1 TV show for years on end. Even my 65 year old mom loved big bang.

Flat out exhausted since working OT so I may have misread and thought you and guys were something more. Of course the general sitcom premise of laughs for the masses is similar.

The more people the better. I wasn't even trying and my character list has become pretty bloated.

Will see what actions work best where and will start making cuts.

If George or Susan vote for Bubble Boy, he instantly dies.

    MOORS!

    MOOPS!

    MOORS!

    MOOPS!

Death triangle though. Susan pops Bubble Boy (not counting the meta last episode). George pops Susan (indirectly) later.

Fun fact: Susan was killed off on the show because nobody liked working with her.

I'm watching the one where Susan and Elaine become friends and Independent George/Relationship George are having worlds collide.

Putting out hit after hit that was just rewrites of previous hits with a different melody while Seinfeld was like Nirvana. An out of nowhere hit making machine that just sparked a whole new way of music.

Yeah, Nirvana was SOOOOOO great that they inspired a whole genre of music (grunge) that was dead about 5 years later. Oh wow.

People let Boy bands and Disney star pop replace grunge bands as the biggest acts in music, and I've never forgiven society.

Grunge was a shotgun blast in the annuals of time but lives on forever in our heart shaped box.

I grew up on Grunge and learned to vibe with the more easy-going music of the mid-90s. Even though corporatism did win out by the late 90s, we still fought the good fight with angry rock, alternative rock, and Eminem. It was not a horrible time to be alive.
