I know the big theme games are the main mafia things happening, but would anyone have an opinion (either positive or negative) on having a small non-theme game (I'm thinking 7-9 players) running at the same sort of time - having been knocked out of the Batman one, it's gonna be a while before I could join in with the next one.
I'd be quite interested in running it, though only if we had some sort of interest.
The way we're going through lynches we should be done by Sunday.

The selling point in this game is that no one gets eliminated so everyone who signs up can actually take part until the end. Which will be nice for Cewsh
I was talking to GRIMARIO about this he suggested I run one and see how it goes. I'll need to get the game off my brother so I have all the cards and actually know how it plays, I guess if I do run it it'll be a smallish test one because the basic rules are designed for like 10 people max and without playing it before it'll be hard to adapt to a higher number straight away.
Go for it, there'll be no shortage of interest I'm sure. There is a fair amount of downtime in the big games, especially for us UKers, so having a smaller basic one running parallel should be no issue.
Running a smaller game might not be such a bad idea, specially for the newbies to the game. It'd be a great way for someone to learn the game, without feeling overwhelmed by the huge themed games.
If you're going to start smaller ones I think you need to start it almost as soon as the main game starts. Between people who didn't make it and people who get cut we should hit 7-9 almost immediately. If the Batman game is any example we'd be halfway there before the game even started.
I would almost say run 2 small ones at the same time. We easily get 20-25 people looking to sign up ASAP for these

I would worry a bit about burn out as well, especially since we are going at such a breakneck speed here. I mean depending on how seriously we're taking My Little Mafia we are scheduled 3 out right now officially with I believe two more waiting in the wings.
I was thinking of a single smaller game, starting around half-way through the main game. That way those who weren't able to get in the big game don't have the long wait between games, and those who were eliminated early can get involved if they want to.
I think I'll set one up a bit later today just to see the effect. A trial's (likely) going to be better than just talking about it.
Games running consecutively I don't think is a problem, keeps momentum going and allows people who may have been kille...I mean Cewsh, to have another game pretty quickly.
By having quite a few running at one time I think there's a danger of overload. I think we've got a decent run with this at the minute, people just need to be patient when they get whacked.
*I fully accept I am saying this while in my second mafia game without actually having been killed yet and so if killed on the first night of the next game I would most likely have a very, very, very different opinion*

in the top picture is the 1st edition. More mission cards were put in the 2nd edition game(which is what I have).
The game pits the Resistance(good guys) versus the Government Spies(Bad guys). Players are sent out on 5 missions handled one by one. If the mission is a success the Resistance wins that mission, if it fails the government takes it. No player knows what side ANY of the other players are on.
-You have to have a set order for characters, because of the "leadership token"
-The leadership token is passed from person to person in order.
-The leader selects who he thinks should go on the mission.
-All players then vote on whether or not the selected people should go on the mission.
-when the mission is approved by a majority vote, the players go on the mission.
-If the leadership token goes around to everyone, and the mission was never approved it fails.
-players turn in their mission cards to the leader(either mission passed or mission failed)
-the leader shuffles the cards and reads the results.
-the mission fails if there is a fail card amongst the cards turned in(there is a caveat to this however. if the mission has an asterisk on it, then it requires more fails)
-who ever takes the majority of the missions wins.
here is a 7 player game board of the dystopian version.
So only 2 people go on quest 1. (takes 1 to fail the mission)
3 people on quests 2 & 3 (takes 1 to fail the mission)
4 people on quest 4. (takes 2 to fail the mission
4 people on quest 5 (takes 1 to fail the mission)
The cards give investigative roles, and powers. I need to play a bit more with them to give an honest assessment. But the core game is really fun.

Resistance looks fun. Though I think you might have to keep that game a bit smaller for sanity's sake. Still I'm down and if there is a site to read up on it I'll go do some recon.
I'm curious does anybody know what the average size of Mafia is? I keep reading up on the rules and roles and there are lots of roles that are only recommended for "larger" games but (and maybe like the Jack of all Trades I'm just stupid and missing it) but they only seem to say that you need a minimum of 7 players and that there have been games with over 100 players. Is 20 small, large, average, slightly over/under average?
Anything strategy based, tactical based etc I'd be more than happy to give a go.

Sad but true. I was actually so horribly disappointed by this Batman one. I made up a spreadsheet, analyzed everyone's posts word for word, started stirring things up, and then died on night 1. I can't catch a break.
I died DAY 1. Sounds like Cewsh has more staying power than me.

Absolutely, just need to be quick... Although I think there should be like 1-5 slots saved for newbies (Well, some of us are newbies still, three games in!). Stops everyone lynching Cewsh D1 if we have others playing.

Feel free to ignore this idea, but...
New people, and people that didn't get to play the previous game get an automatic invite.
Then give everyone else 24hrs for sign up. You draw from those names as to whom will fill out the list. Names are drawn randomly by the moderator.
This makes sure new people, and ones that got snubbed get to play. And it takes the time zone problem out of the equation on sign ups.
I actually think that's a good idea. Allows for the people who didn't play the previous game to get in. Like if they're new or got left out of the last game or, I don't know, running the last game.
I had something similar in mind. There will be a mix of new and old involved for sure.
Just take all the names that sign up and draw however many of them you need at random. Have a big fun draft/reveal day. These Mafia games have gotten to be a big deal, so let's have some fun with it and give everyone a fair chance so that's nobody has any reason to be sore about it if they get left out.
But make sure Cewsh doesn't get in. It's mean to tease him with the game when he always dies on day 1.

Having new people is good but can you game moderators at least let them know that they're expected to participate and that if they don't feel they can do that then they should probably not play.
I'm cool with mth and hithit but neither of them did very much and the town would have been better off with someone else having those roles.
That might not be a bad idea all around. As people have already said it should take some of the luck out of getting in and is a little less punishing on people who dare do something other than sit at their computer pounding F5 as fast as they possibly can. It might be fun to see the countdown of who got in as well.
Also it's been like one hundred twenty minutes. I have no idea why all the roles aren't in for Batman and why they haven't gotten the perfect storm they are obviously aiming for. Sheesh.
If this question is too specific right now feel free to wait until later to answer it but how to multiple mafias work as far as win conditions? If by whatever crazy method the mafias eliminate the townies do both mafia win, do they fight it out? Does it become a draw game? I mean if you get two and two and nobody has any killer's left that ends the game.

We could have team leaders and hold a Mafia Games Draft ... but newbies would probably be kinda screwed there ..

You could a draft if you make a certain number of spots for rookies to be fair.. but it would definitely add a little bit of fun and anticipation to it.
Any way to gauge how many people actually wanna play and possibly just add more spots or is there a certain number of spots that it has to be ?

I know this was mentioned earlier but would some of the aspiring mods (myself included) be keen to run smaller non themed games concurrently with the big games? I'm actually disappointed that I didn't almost immediately start a 7-10 player game upon my demise. We'd likely be finished already.
How about people who are too late or unlucky enough not to be randomly picked for the larger themed games take it upon themselves to run such things? Including myself in this.
