My son is currently at the University of Tennessee for a scout conference. During the first night there during the opening ceremony or whatever it was called during one of the many videos Glenn Jacobs was on there welcoming them or something.

Later that night my son texts the family group chat and goes I just realized Kane is the mayor around here. I saw him in a promotional video and thought he looked familiar.

Glory Pro is running another big show at the Pageant in September. Tickets go on sale tomorrow and they are announcing talent coming in. Danhausen coming back. Impact World Champion Josh Alexander is coming in. Matt Sydal, Delirious, Effy, and Allie Katch along with the local talent like Dan the Dad, Mike Outlaw, Tootie Lynn, Warhorse, etc. I am sure Davey Richards will work the show. Rohit Raju and Jake Something usually doing Glory Pro shows even though the both missed this weekends show. Jake was working with New Japan and was double booked.

Random Youtube watching while I'm absorbing as much air conditioning as I can in this 98.8 degree humidity. Its like walking through a bowl of soup outside where I live.

But I'll be damned, this is one Hell of a little TV match. I never realized it, but Marcus Bagwell and 2 Cold Scorpio were a seriously underrated little team. 2 Cold was a super young dude in 1993 (even though he doesn't look like he's aged a day in 2022 - Seriously, black don't crack) but he was called on to be the veteran for his team. Bagwell was good enough to pull off his end, but he was so green he'd glow in the dark if you turned the lights off in the arena.

But Austin and Pillman were the real highlights. I know I'm not saying anything revolutionary, but The Hollywood Blondes should have been a million dollar team. They could have been a modern day ("modern" as of 1993) combination of The Brainbusters and The Midnight Express. Instead, they were cut off at the knees because of The Hulkster, brother!

But yeah, this one is fantastic. It really comes together as a solid, old-school Southern wrestling tag-team match. The Blondes get some fantastic heat on 2 Cold Scorpio. Bagwell really gets a solid hot-tag and the heels cheat to win. Its simple shit, but its done really well.

    A couple little highlights.

Austin proving he has no moves, trying to dance the cabbage patch to mock Scorpio. Ha.

Bagwell pops a nice, simple comeback and Austin and Pillman go all the way in the bump and feed. Pillman literally and very plainly jumps into Bagwell's arms for a scoop slam.

The finish gets a little ugly. Scorpio throws a dropkick on Austin but lands on Pillman's knee as Pillman is setting something up with Bagwell. Austin and Scorpio fight out, Bagwell scores a Northern-Lights suplex into a pin on Pillman, but Austin rakes the eyes of Scorpio, pops back in, and hits an elbow to the exposed ribs of Bagwell, for the win. Simple move, but it works.

This one's well worth checking out.

Holy Jesus Christ Magilla Gorilla Sampson!

Damn. Just damn. When people talk about how Vince and the WWF guys "buried" the WCW/ECW guys during the Invasion, its shit like this that they're thinking of. The APA beat Kanyon and Bill Demott like they owe them money. They beat Kanyon and Demott like whores in church. They beat Kanyon and Demott like a horny teenager discovering Pornhub for the first time beats his... well... yeah.

I've seen more even matches between chipmunks trying to cross the road and tractor trailer trucks.

Its like the APA fell into a time warp and somebody told them Kanyon and Demott were actually The Public Enemy.

    Just... damn.

Explain this comment. I've never heard of the story about Hogan wanting to split up the Hollywood Blondes. What for? He didn't feud with either of them. There's the story of Austin supposedly pitching an angle similar to Evad the super Hogan fan to Dusty and they were naw baby we got something else for you. Pillman and Hogan never worked together directly.

I'm glad they were split up though. Butterfly Effect is a motherfucker. Do we get 3:16? Does Pillman die? One of my best friends loved the Blondes especially Stunning Steve. And he became a big Pillman fan too out of it. He probably would've loved a multi-year run out of these guys. How different would wrestling be if those 2 stayed a tag-team until like 1998 and then broke up??

Pillman was a Ric Flair project. Austin was a favorite of Flair to wrestle. When Flair had the book and some degree of power, he booked The Blondes/Horsemen and himself vs. Pillman. They were featured well under him and even wrestled Flair and Arn Anderson on Clash of The Champions.

Hogan comes in and all of a sudden, Flair flips heel to be his first opponent, The Blondes split up, and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan (a friend of Hogan) beats Steve Austin in a matter of seconds for the TV title.

Suddenly, both guys are depushed and deemphasized and Austin quits and heads for ECW.

Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Eddie Guerrero? Does this match get a pay-per-view slot? No. A major Monday Nitro featured spot? Nope. A Mexico House Show Main Event? Yeah right.

In the most "WCW move" possible, WCW brings in Jushin Liger and books him on the D-show.

This wasn't the only time this happened: WCW would book Liger in 2000. When they were asked who he'd be booked with, they responded, "Oh, he's going to be wrestling The Frog on Worldwide".

    Jesus Christ.

Kind of a "nothing" match, but I've always been an Ice Train mark. Dude was the 90's version of Powerhouse Hobbs or Big E, but without 1/100th of their charisma. Scott Norton was a shoot arm wrestling champion who could probably rip your arm off and beat you to death with it, but he had as much personal charisma as a big chunk of wood.

Bill Watts was in and out of WCW in prominent booking positions, and somehow it seems like he either never saw Ice Train, or just didn't see anything in him. Because a Bill Watts looking for his "new Junkyard Dog" would have pushed Ice Train through the ceiling.

How about when they flew in Hayabusa for Worldwide and didn't end up using him? Lol. I mean I get why they do some of these matches as they sometimes have these international deals for some of their shows and maybe WCW didn't have a deal for Nitro or Thunder in a particular country. So you definitely don't want that market to think WCW is nothing but Hugh Morrus and Glacier.

JYD had charisma though and like you said, Ice Train had none. Hobbs really is Ice Train 2.0 and I liked this short feud with Norton and Train. Total 90's tag-team from the name to the gear. WCW, imo, dominated the tag scene in North America in the 90's. I would say until 1999 they had the best tag division in comparison to WWF. Maybe in 1990 when WWF still had the Hart Foundation and Demolition together but after that naw. You can't fuck with WCW.

Late 80s/early 90s WWE tag team wrestling was the best. Kinda faded out by the time RAW debuted, but I loved Hart Foundation, Demolition, Rockers, Bushwhackers, Legion of Doom, Money Inc., Power and Glory, Orient Express, Beverly Brothers, Brain Busters, Quebecers, Steiners, Natural Disasters etc.

I think the reason I am such a big fan of tag team wrestling is because of this right here.

WCW had their own version of The Smackdown! Six in 1999. Benoit and Dean Malenko, Raven and Saturn, and Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman. Its just a shame that those six didn't last as long as the Smackdown! Six did, because their matches were always good.

Hell, I was a mark for The Jersey Triad and Curt Hennig and Barry Whendam.

If anybody isn't, you should totally check out Booker T's Reality Of Wrestling promotion. Roxanne Perez (known as Roc-C in ROW) got her start in ROW before she wound up in NXT. AQA (another female standout from ROW) has made a few shots for AEW. They're a fun promotion, doing old-school local-style wrestling TV.

Obviously, this is a one-night women's tournament to honor Sheri Martell; Some of the talent in the early-round matches is... questionable... but you'll get that from a wrestling school show. But Hyan, Raychel Rose, Promise Braxton, and a few others are legitimate standouts. Braxton and Hyan's match is legit very good. On par with the best of AEW, at least. Probably a good step down from WWE. But again, they're wrestling school students. Experienced students, mind. But still students. If you want a couple hours of solid indie women's wrestling, you should give this one a shot. And give ROW's weekly show a shot, too.

Oh, and this show sets up a Booker T heel turn and a feud, seemingly, with his own wife, a returning Sharmell. There's a lot to like here.

The Ninja Rap performed live with the TMNT. Just don't know if Super Shredder will be there.

It's a better song than Ninja Rap but for obvious reasons more people know Ninja Rap. Ninja has the better hook though.

I recall when Tony Khan purchased ROH, that Samoa Joe and Triple H pushed Vince to buy ROH.

With Triple H, Stephanie, and Nick Khan in charge, will we see them purchasing anything?

Probably not. They probably wanted Vince to buy the tape library for ROH which is all Tony did. The ROH titles are meaningless it's like watching late 90's WWF when they tried to pretend the NWA still mattered.

If they purchase anything it will be for the library and that is what they would have done for ROH. They would not have tried to keep it going.

I feel like he wants to do more but it is starting to turn more into when Vince bought WCW and didn't have any kind of tv deal in place to keep it going as it own thing. Khan needs to get a tv deal or streaming in place otherwise and not just a couple random PPVs otherwise he needs to scrap ROH. I don't want to see that happen but ROH needs to be its own thing and not have titles defended on AEW shows. Cross promotion stuff is fine here and there but yeah if you don't have anything in place move on and take advantage of having the library to go with your other content once you get a streaming deal in place.

It's too bad Vince didn't have the Network or streaming platforms in 2001 like today because I feel like that would've been an easier way to keep WCW around as another brand for the company. They had plans to keep WCW, even did a press release and everyone has confirmed it but something happened where all of that went out the window.

I remember when TK bought ROH there were all these rumors that AEW was going to be on HBO Max and they needed content. But nothing has came of that. So it makes you wonder what's been doing on? The guy has a shit load of money and has 2 shows on Youtube. Why not make 1 of those the ROH show? It would probably get as many views as they did on Fox 17 at 5pm on Saturday.

    Sigh.....

If one of those shows switched to ROH, how would we keep inflating AEW specific win-loss records? Do you wanna live in a world where Frankie Kazarian has a win/loss record below 90%, and his record reflects the matches the majority of fans have seen.

Come on man. That would be anarchy.

Good point. Easy enough to switch one of the youtube shows to an ROH show. Especially since you are doing tapings down in Florida still for one of the shows. Fly the talent down there and knock out a few weeks.

I'm curious who is even considered an ROH exclusive talent.

Yeah I am not sure. Seems like Colt is. Lethal had become AEW before the sale but he has mostly been involved with ROH stuff. Castle and the Boys are probably ROH exclusive. I think there are some that will be mostly ROH but not exclusive but hard to say since he doesn't have anything in place for ROH yet.

There was a lot of scuttlebutt and rumor that WWE. at one point anyway, were making overtures toward either buying or financially backing ICW and/or EVOLVE and/or Progress Wrestling over in the UK. That was before the "Great Outing" from a few years ago where every major (or not so major, in some cases) UK indie talent was outed as some kind of sex pest/abuser/rapist/some kind of horrible sex monster. Then WWE just made NXT UK a thing. And wouldn't you know it; Some of their guys were named in that, too.

Just saw on the front page a few days ago, Dalton Castle is calling himself a "Free Agent" now. Seems like he's not a Ring of Honor talent anymore.

Dalton Castle is someone who should've been in the WWE 5-6 years ago. I know why he didn't, he's talked about it, the fear of his gimmick being watered down or portraying someone completely different. I just feel like he needed a platform like WWE, TNA, or maybe even Mexico to do that gimmick to the best of his ability.

I haven't seen much of Dalton. Interesting that he is a free agent. He is currently part of the 6 man champs for ROH but then again he doesn't have to be signed to ROH or AEW really. Probably a pay per apperance deal.

Coming soon to an extremely under-hyped Rampage Main Event Near You! -- Ring of Honor Six-Man Tag-Team Champions Dalton Castle And The Boys vs. Kenny Omega And The Young Bucks -- AEW Trios Champions -- In A Winning Team Takes All Six-Man Championship Unification Match.

That, of course, Kenny McFingerBang and The Young Cucks win over the unknown dude who looks like a weird combination of Liberace and Charles Manson and his two indentured sex slaves/tag-team partners.

Are we really shocked here let’s be honest.

Spudz at times basically is still in the mindset that this is the wrestling forum version of 4chan and not always self-aware of what is/isn’t acceptable these days. He still lives in the old school mindset I think.

But I know from previous experience that he can debate! *hint hint*

But whether you debate or not, you need to tone it down man. Don’t forget I stopped you from making a further arse of your self when you had that debate with mth which I won’t go into specifics but could’ve landed you in worse trouble. Chill man.

Isn't it a little bit interesting that Haku and Barbarian started teaming up in the WWF, just because they were under the same manager. Then they'd come to WCW and eventually team up, with an actual name, because they were both under the same manager?

Barb's gear looks ridiculous here. He's like a big Tongan Wendigo. Hey Barb, be a dear and... well... be a deer.

The legendary story about Barb, who wasn't a drinker, tying one or two or 15 on at a bar and then refusing to leave when they tried to close, is fucking incredible. Barb beat up 7 cops and it took Barb's wife, who everybody was scared of, to get him to leave.

Barbarian now sells used cars for a living. I hope he still wears that same outfit.

The Bushwhackers are terrible. The Daniel Stern movie "Bushwhacked" is terrible, too. These are two unrelated things.

Not that interesting. So basically WCW did what they usually did, take a WWF idea and go with it.

I loved the Barbarian's look in WWE. Same with Warlord. I suppose I only caught the tail end of the Powers of Pain, but I really enjoyed their singles runs.

I was never a big fan of Powers of Pain beyond the feud with Demolition. I liked them as singles wrestlers. Warlord had such a badass look.

Just reading up on Warlord's post WWF career wow that guy went through some shit I never knew about.

He's had some wild views. He's just as crazy as Ryback.

Did you know Val Venis' last WWE match was against Snitsky?

Snitsky's last WWE match was against CM Punk.

CM Punk's last WWE singles match was against Billy Gunn.

Billy Gunn's last WWE match was teaming with Road Dogg against the Ascension.

The Ascension's last WWE match was against Otis and Tucker.

    Announcer shake up news:

Raw is now Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves

Smackdown will be Michael Cole and Wade Barrett

NXT will be Vic Joseph and Black Snow aka GI Bro aka Booker T

So that leaves Byron and Jimmy Smith out in the cold. I'm sure if Pat returns he'll be back on Smackdown-maybe. I'm not negative if we don't see Byron at the booth he hasn't mattered since day one. Honestly has there ever been someone at the booth who literally offered zero to the table?? It'd be one thing if he was play by play or the heel color guy but he's neither.

Jimmy Smith....Good voice, he was growing on me for sure and he really excelled with calling some of the more realistic moves. But even in Bellator, UFC, there was something missing.

A "First Amendment Auditor" The 'frauditor' term is aimed at the ones who are obnoxious about it. Trying to bait cops, harassing post office employees, trying to record in areas that they're not allowed, etc. Basically a sovcit minus the "I don't need a driver's license I'm not driving I'm TRAVELING" lol.

There are good auditors out there but the "frauditor" usually looks like a homeless bum just trying to get clicks and views for their Youtube channel. And some of these cats make 6 figures doing this shit.

Check out 2 people. Frauditor Troll is who I shared above but even better than him is this dude who passed away named "SCHRODINGER'S CAT" That's how I found out about all this shit simply looking up people getting tasered lol.

PLE will be Graves and Cole, and Saxton will be doing backstage interviews for RAW.

Yeah I like him doing the pre-shows and all that but I think having him at a 2-man booth, even for NXT, that's going to be tough. Who knows though...We're thinking of him on commentary with all the restrictions Vince put on his people versus a relaxed NXT where I doubt Shawn is going to be yelling at Booker T unless he wants beat up in a broom closet.

Nigel is incredible. He was awesome in ROH, awesome in NXT, I even started watching more Level Up when I saw he was on there so I'm guess he's going to be doing that and maybe NXT Europe??

I like Saxton so I'll miss him. I feel like I should know who Kevin Patrick is? Booker in the booth is not my favorite option.

EDIT: Apparently Saxton is doing backstage interviews now and that's not a bad spot for him.

    Jimmy Smith gone from WWE

Whoever Byron has dirt on, hopefully they realize how lackluster he truly is. It's probably the same guy who liked Jonathan Coachman. If they have to keep Byron, backstage interviewer is ok. He can be the guy that does a sit down interview in a segment and field scripted questions and give scripted answers. He just sucks.

Kevin Patrick is the Irish lad that looks 15 they have do backstage interviews and pre-shows. Not sure if he's ever done commentary at the booth other than that 1 time he did Raw or Smackdown and he sucked.

Kevin Patrick has grown on me with his Raw Rewind and Smackdown LowDown or whatever they call the Network shows.

If Pat McAfee comes back, it won't be until college football ends, but even then, there's no way he'll be doing Raw on Monday nights. He won't be missing Monday Night Football

The official WWE announcement did say McAfee is coming back, just no specifics:

WWE announces updates to commentary teams

Today WWE announced that Raw, SmackDown, NXT and Premium Live Events will all have updated announce booths starting with this week’s season premieres. The news was first reported by Variety on Thursday afternoon.

On Friday Night SmackDown, the commentary table will be headed by Michael Cole with Wade Barrett doing color commentary. Samantha Irvin will be the ring announcer, and interviews will be conducted by Kayla Braxton and Megan Morant.

On Monday Night Raw, Corey Graves will still be providing his colorful insights and will be joined by Kevin Patrick on play-by-play. Mike Rome will continue to announce from the ring, and Byron Saxton will transition from the commentary booth to backstage interviews. Also joining Saxton in backstage interviews is none other than Cathy Kelley in her return to WWE.

Over on NXT, Vic Joseph will be assisted by six-time World Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. Alicia Taylor will still provide her exceptional voice to ring announcing, and McKenzie Mitchell will once again be conducting interviews.

On the Premium Live Event side, Michael Cole and Corey Graves will come together again to announce from the booth.

Pat McAfee will return to the WWE announce booth following his commitments to ESPN’s College GameDay.

    I'm baffled anyone loves football.

The one with Debbie Reynolds? I only saw the first one, it was pretty good, your typical feel good Disney crap, but it's no Halloween.

You shouldn't be when you compare how few people watching wrestling in comparison to the masses that watch football.

Random fact I learned today on FB. Jinder’s one WWE title reign was longer than Edge’s 4 reigns combined.

Quite mad when you think about it.

You ready for this? Jinder's one reign is longer than all of Mick Foely's combined, longer than any single reign of The Rock, and longer than all but one Austin reign. If Jinder didn't drop the title prior to Survivor Series, he would've held the WWE title longer than ANY Stone Cold reign. Longest Stone Cold reign was 175 days (Jinder=170 days) when he was a heel in 2001. Crazy right??

When he had the title, he had the Bollywood Boys, who were much better workers than he is. And the story worked - for a while. But it got old, and at some point, the worker has to be able to back it up, bring something entertaining to a match. Once Jinder got overshadowed by Great Khali, it reminded the WWE universe that this was the same guy who was jobbing as part of 3MB just a short while before that.

More recently, he's had Shanky and Veer, who both only made Jinder look short, and less impressive by comparison. When the main attraction is overshadowed by a supporting character, it's never good.

Jinder's main asset is his physique. There's only so far that can take a guy without a decent storyline. He got as far as it would take him.

Recently, we've seen guys like Elias/Ezekiel, or MadCap Moss, who don't have a solid workrate, and similarly rely mostly on their look. They need someone else to carry the fued, because otherwise the audience just doesn't care.

Be careful about how you talk about Madcap Moss. He is the future of WWE and you'll have pie in your face when he's the face of the company in 5-6 years.

Jinder worked but not as a main event World champion. He wasn't a good worker, average on the mic, his look was suspect. Personally I don't think it matters if Jinder is bigger/smaller than who he's with. If Shanky is supposed to be watching Jinder's back why wouldn't he? Did Omos overshadow AJ Styles? Yes in terms of height but there's more to getting over than being tall. If being tall is all it took why is everyone so short these days? lol.

You'd have to put Jinder in the bottom ten of WWE champions, but was he the worst?

    Matrix 4 was incredible.

Quote Originally Posted by Donald View Post

No. Even by storyline the worst is without a question Vince McMahon. That was one of those times where people forget that yeah, the Attitude Era didn't always hit a homerun when it came to the top guys especially Vince. He has the distinct joy of being the worst WWE and ECW champion of all time. Arquette, no doubt the worst World champion of all time of any company.

Jinder is definitely in the bottom 10, maybe even bottom 5 for WWE.

IMO the bottom 5 WWE would be (from worst to least worst) Vince McMahon, Stan Stasiak, Jinder Mahal, The Great Khali, and Andre the Giant. OMG Andre on a worst of list??? When you factor in how he won it and then gifted it immediately after to Million $ Man, it was fuckin stupid and fuckin genius all in one lol. Kind of like the Fingerpoke of Doom. In a way it's genius, but in reality it's one of if not the worst booking decisions ever.

Stan was a transitional champion but was very middle of the card. They didn't do face v. face matches so you had Pedro drop it to avoid having to lose to Bruno as Pedro was probably The Rock to his Austin. Jinder going from jobber to World champion in a matter of a couple weeks just to try and dig a little more into the Indian market....despite Khali already being the guy over there. Khali was already turning into a major star over there and I'm not sure if that's why he was given the belt but he at least looked like the baddest motherfucker on the roster. Still a terrible champion.
