I guess we'll see. We don't count the hour network specials so that wouldn't be so bad. I just know they'll announce a bunch of matches over the weekend if it's a standard PPV and that's hard for everybody to stay updated.

I still think The Simpsons are funny. They're just not cutting edge anymore. They can be broadly humorous at times, but they're too "big" to make fun of "the big guys".

And they'll probably be neutered even further, because they're owned by Disney.

They hit their big peak in the 90s and a lot of the newer stuff is as you say neutered. Also a lot of the newer stuff I’ve seen is recycled and also Simpson’s with mobile phones and internet now to keep an eye on Bart just isn’t the same. They’re still a monster franchise though and as much as I’d wish they’d stop, they probably won’t any time soon barring a catastrophe.

I'm just looking forward to the eventual point where Homer Simpson shows up in the MCU.

Forgive me if I’m wrong on this but Simpsons and Raw may be the two of the most long-running episodic series on US network television. It’d be interesting to see who folds first.

Actually there’s talk shows and other stuff that have them beat.

    Its something like

    1. RAW
    2. The Simpsons
    3. American Bandstand
    4. Gunsmoke

As the 4 longest running programs on TV.

I don't think RAW's ever going away. Disney would buy WWE and keep it going before that happened.

Googled and the Tonight Show came up and been going since 1954 technically despite change in hosts. Maybe not as consistent though.

If Disney bought WWE, I would officially stop watching and they’d have to water it down even more. Fuck it they ruined Doug lol.

I found these a few weeks back. I have a fair few recorded now. Only seen the Bret one, so far. Decent, but we've heard it all before.

Oh, and I saw the first part of the Benoit one.

That case is almost 40 years old and that cop was probably what, 30 when it happened? So we're talking about an old ass cop who's probably forgotten more than his share of crime he's had to try and solve over the years.

A Snuka episode was about 20 years too late. It would've been much better in the 90's when people's memories weren't shit and the story wasn't such an afterthought.

It would've been better if Snuka was alive.

When you've got a profile on a murder case where both the principles are dead, its not exactly exciting.

"Yeah, he did it. We all know he did it. And, uhh, if he wasn't already dead, we'd do something about it. Yeah!"

Snuka had been losing it the better part of the last decade, too. I doubt his memory was reliable, either.

If the rumour of Summerslam being on a boat comes to fruition, this should be the theme song if it’s allowed:

Found this and laughed pretty good. Especially at Mean Gene trying to cover his laughter at Ken.

Mean Gene was notorious for trying to hold in his laughter keep character, but also what else I loved him for? He had balls to stand up to the wrestlers. Announcers these days and most past tbhcower if wrestlers came at them but he was up in Hogan’s face threatening to sue when Hogan grabbed him during his NWO heel turn at ‘96 Bash at the Beach.

Announcers fighting back, Gene was great and less if not any announcers don’t do that.

Exactly. WWE are so fucking tone deaf it's absurd. They only care about trying to get heat on people. It doesn't matter who it is. Top babyface? Better get a 50/50 response or you're getting buried.

Is Retribution going to debut on the Payback PPV? Its one week after Summerslam apparently.

The name Retribution and Payback are pretty much the same thing.

They could do a Named Wrestler Vs ??? Card where someone like Kevin Owens is annoyed so he challenges one of them but he doesn't know who it is until they come out and unmask.

Most likely its a cinematic PPV where they follow Retribution smashing plates and taking a bat to the ferns in the performance centre.

Summerslam is tentatively slated to be held at the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida, per multiple reports. The reports indicate, as of now, there will be no actual fans in attendance and will still their regular extras for the crowd. Don't see a lot of negatives to the idea.

They must be planning to hold it at the Amway arena because the Retribution gang is causing too many problems at the Performance Center.

WWE needs to take a page out of the UFC's book and make Wrestling Island.

Also, it will be the best Reality Series on the Network.

Finally got a streaming stick (fire) anyhow looking at apps and Njpw world is there, great. So I'm looking through it with a view to signing up, but it seems a bit of a mess menu wise tbh. Go to the event tab and it's all the latest first, naturally but when you click view all it lists literally everything from now backwards with no filter or search options I can see so let's say I want to watch WK 2017 ill be scrolling for half an hour.

Anyone here have the app? Am I being thick here?

Wade Barrett should be the one pulling the strings for Retribution. That would be a nice suprise.

I'm paraphrasing here but 'when the match was over did anyone actually believe she was gone, they never adhere to their stips'

Now usually he may have a point but in this instant?

Anyway Mr Alvarez have a nice day

He hasnt been in the wwe before and with his old school style approach to wrestling I'd say he is most definitely on Triple H's radar. With that said, the way WWE treats Mickie I'd say he'd get some potiential rub off of shit booking just cause.

I'm missing the connection but I'll try:

Wade was a commentator for NWA POWERRRRRRRRRRR. Mickie is Nick's wife. So that means he might be joining WWE? Odd.

If he was on the radar he would've been signed by now. Remember, this guy said that supposedly all these legends and current talent think he could be a top guy. That's not exactly saying much in this day and age but hey, if a guy who wrestles in front of 35 people is going to be the fucking man, awesome.

"The connection" is NWA is on life support because of Covid shutting down their production and Dave Lagana getting busted trying to sexually assault someone. So now their big stars are leaving for greener pastures.

Nick Aldis has an "in" with his wife already working for the big 'E. If they put him in NXT, he'd be a great fit there.

How funny would a run in be if the heel is distracting the ref while another heel comes out and choke slams the babyface through the mat and leaves through the crowd only for the heel to now have to convince the ref he did it to himself.

Anyone else yawn at all the Randy Orton "ONE OF THE BEST EVER WHEN HE'S MOTIVATED" comments by talent.

I get that he's decent and has a good timing in-ring and charisma. But to me there's just nothing interesting about his matches.

His slow precise deliberate style pretty much fits his character but yeah I get that not everyone is into those types of matches. It’s all subjective but also agree somewhat they could cut down on the hype. There’s no denying how much he’s accomplished though and still at 40.

Orton's matches are what drying paint watches to relax.

But that's what makes his matches compelling to some of the so-called "real" wrestling fans of the world. He's not out there working a million miles an hour, doing ultra-athletic stuff, and flips and dives. People forget, a "high spot" is the exception to the regular action of a match. Not the entire match. Orton still works that style. That's what makes him compelling to the right audience. He works a hold, builds slowly, and smoothly (so very smoothly) works into his trademark spots, that by the time a Randy Orton match is in the home stretch or kicking into gear, you almost don't realize how boring the earliest parts of it were.

The only issue is, Orton learned from Triple H during the worst and most over indulgent part of Triple H's career. When every Triple H "main event style match" had to be "epic" and overly-long, but Hunter wasn't there physically to pull it off. So instead of being a main event war, H's matches were a main event bore. Orton, even 17 years or so later, is still trying to shake the 2003 "Reign Of Terror" Triple H off of his game. Sometime's Randy has those matches, even now, where "chinlock Randy" or "slow and deliberate" Randy take too much of the match, and things never get going.

Randy Orton is boring. But he's usually the good kind of boring.

he's doing the exact same shit he did in the build to Mania 25, which produced the most boring Mania main event ever.

I bloody loved his series of matches with Christian in 2011.

But apart from the odd match here and there, I've never really been an Orton fan.

I don't get the Randy hate, and never really have.

He's a tremendous talent. His promo work is outstanding, and his ring-work is better than almost everyone else on the roster. You may not like his storyline progression, but when he's on screen, he demands attention more than anyone else. The comparison with HHH back then, is I think fair, in that HHH also was given 7-8 minutes of promo time when other wrestlers would only get 4-5 or so, and they are doing that with Orton now. But it makes him stand out, and he deserves it. And he has easily been the best opponent in Drew's title reign.

When you've been doing it in the WWE for as long as Randy has, you're going to have moments where it wasn't the greatest shit ever. Orton has had both good and bad moments in his career. The worst obviously being the booking from Summerslam to Mania 30. That's not even on him obviously but WWE's blindeye routine with Daniel Bryan and force feeding us shit like Orton v. Big Show.....

I think if you broke down his career you'd find more often than not the guy delivered and the feud was very good. I think there's a little bit of male jealousy when it comes to Orton. The guy hasn't aged, he still looks great, definitely one of the best workers in the company. Maybe some are still stuck on his bullshit during his 20's. Maybe people still hate the chinlock bullshit lol.

I’m not sure if it’s “male jealousy” per se more than his general style doesn’t fit with some folks because it’s not the fastest.

He’s a youngish guy playing an old school game which I respect.

Oh yeah I don't think it's a major factor, that's why I said I think a little bit of it is male jealousy. Goes back to the whole "Women cheer Cena, Men boo Cena" mentality. It's not that Cena or Orton are geared toward the ladies, they just look better than most lol. I don't see too many women out there swooning for Otis despite what a storyline would have you believe lol.

With Orton it's simple. The respect for his matches and promos are dictated by how interesting the angle is that he's in. I think a lot of fans who have been watching the last 15+ get a little drained with Orton because he's been in the mix for so fucking long. The same shit happened to Triple H, the same shit happened to Cena. These guys who are a main focus for longer than 2-3 years, they're fucking lucky to maintain a positive response from the crowd.

Going back to what I said about the shit booking of Summerslam 2013 into WM 30. Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, even prior to Summerslam, were tearing down the house. Their 2 ppv matches after Summerslam were awesome. But the story fucking sucked because it pivoted to Big Show v Orton and even worse they unified the titles with Orton and Cena, lining up Batista for Mania, instead of Bryan and Punk. And the WWE IMHO paid the price for wanting to say in the 2005 era instead of moving forward.

Randy deserves all the respect in the world for everything he's done, learned, and expressed in his career. He speaks, I listen.

He has a very dense exterior that lets only a sliver of light shine out, but when it does... boy it's badass. That said, 9 out of 10 times when the limelight is on him and he's front and center, he tends to get boring very quickly. Randy is awesome, but in small/quick doses IMO.

Some of the Orton hate is likely residual from some of his face runs (not always so good). He's better as a heel. And even then, he hasn't always been the "cool heel" that people end up cheering. To me that's a bit of a plus. Legend Killer/Punting Orton can get sometimes uncomfortable to watch. Does the job well, as you actually like to see him get beat. I think its very effective (I like this about Shayna as well, but that's another post), but doesn't always get you the love.

Not trying to say face Orton never got pops. He did and has had some decently big moments. But as long as Randy's been around, I'm not sure he's as often gotten the same level of apex "over the top, crowd goes crazy" for him moments that some of his contemporaries have had. And when I'm talking about contemporaries here, I'm referring to upper tier HOFers.

Without the RKO the guy is dead in the water within a year after returning with Evolution. That's his "over the top, crowd goes crazy" moment that he has had many, many times over the last almost 20 years. He hasn't worked as much as a babyface compared to being a heel so that's probably why his OMG moments from a babyface standpoint aren't as prevalent as say Cena, Austin, Foley.

Orton's biggest issue has and always will be pressure. He needs everything to go exactly right or he starts to crack a little, sometimes it work sometimes it doesn't. And you can tell he hates the scripted environment. Or the scripts he's given. We have to remember, it's not the same guy writing the promos for everyone every day for the last 20 years. I'm sure these positions are frequently revolving and you might have 15 different people over the span of 4 years giving you a script that they and others wrote for you. That can't be easy if it's not always good shit.

I had no idea returning other figures in packages was a thing until recently.

@Hero! has this always been a thing? Is it also something that happens with non-wrestling action figures?

It happens all the time. People buy rarer action figures, take them out of the package, sell them on E-Bay or whatever, put a super common figure back in, and then try to return it as a "mispackaged" product for their money back.

I saw somebody do it with a banana once. Banana in the action figure packaging.

You’d think a rarer action figure would be worth more in the package than out of it.

He'd have to ditch the tiny speedo shorts, as they wouldn't look so great if he added a vest and about 100lbs of beer belly.

As for the scripted environment, I think he has finally gotten comfortable pushing back with whoever is writing for him, because he knows his character better than anyone else, and he's managed to make everything work - even stuff like his attack on Ric Flair, he managed to make it believable.

I still think its a shame that Edge got hurt so quickly after his return, but Randy's run has been among the best things on Raw this year. And he has made Drew look fantastic, while still coming out looking great himself. Compared to some of his other feuds - Lesnar, Wyatt, Jinder, Rusev, Kofi, etc , this is clearly the best Randy has looked in several years.

Yeah, fig-swapping has been an issue for a long time. It’s worst with marvel legends.

Some of the worst fig swapping I’ve seen involves swapping the wheels on Hot Wheels . The amount of work it takes to swap the wheels on a $1 car is just insane to me. Just buy both cars, they’re fucking cheap.

My wife wishes I had a body like Tony Nese. Instead I have a body that looks more like Otis. I often regret installing mirrors on the ceiling in the bedroom.

I don't know who I'd compare to, but I don't think I"m as big as Otis. Maybe Jim Neidhart.

I’d take a chubby Neidhart with chest hair with character over a chiselled but hairless oiled body with zero character any day.

As I recall, Jim Neidhart - may he forever rest in peace - was closer to Tony Nese than he was to Otis.

But let's look on the bright side. We don't look like Yokozuna, either.

Anvil and Owen wrecking DX in vengeance could have been one of the best storylines ever, but of course given circumstances they made him a buffoon instead. Owen was too before joining the Nation.

Despite their differences with Bret, could’ve made business with them to boost ratings but nope. Burial instead.

Shawn vs Owen was the PPV match that never was. I’d even venture to say better Royal Rumble 98 option than Taker though that did result in the Kane blow-off.

Anvil and Owen v. DX would have sucked and you know it lol. Anvil?? Now there is a real "He's the Marty" comparison. I always hate the Marty Jannetty bullshit when it was clear in that day ANVIL was the Marty.

Owen on the other hand....I think all of us could eventually agree that at the very least, In Your House DX should've been HBK v. Owen Hart for the WWF championship. Ken Shamrock had barely been in the company what was he doing getting a title shot? They could've easily pivoted to HHH v. Owen Hart because the plan was already HBK v. Austin 316 @ Mania 14. But at least Owen in a way could have done something with Shawn and kept the heat going instead of sticking Owen and HHH together so quickly. HHH could've cost Owen the match at IYH setting up their match at Mania.

They maybe could have done the Owen/Anvil vs HHH/Shawn as a Raw main-event at the least, but definitely Owen was a much better PPV title candidate than Shamrock. HHH costs him and they work from there.

I think Owen/Anvil vs. The New Age Outlaws could have been great, old-school, formula tag-team matches if Jimbo had stuck around that long.

Tell me again, why a white guy joined the Nation?

Owen wasted a lot of 1998 in a stable that he didn't need to be in. And then he wasted the last year of his wrestling life doing very little/teaming with Jeff Jarrett. So much wasted potential.

I’m going to leave the Nation comments, however a bit harsh on the rest as Owen/Jeff were a great tag team like being a foil to XPac/Kane and very close out of the ring too. Jeff’s comments while tearing up on the Owen tribute really got to me, can’t imagine what he was going through.

I know Jarrett is not everyone’s cup of tea but he could draw heat.

He had to be in the Nation to change it back to what it originated as. Fuck the man, not just fuck the WHITE man lol. Let's not forget how the NOD started. Farooq, Savio Vega, Crush, PG-13, a handful of nameless brothers sans D-Lo and Clarence Mason. It then changed into the Black Panthers 2.0 because of the 3-way split that created racist factions. The fuckin Aryans, the Cartel, and the "angry black men"

Once The Rock came in, that shit was over and he couldn't evolve if everyone hated whitey lol. Owen made that transition even easier.

Owen/Jarrett with Debra and the guitar were money. They were like that era's Money Inc. 2 great singles wrestlers, 1 main event quality the other a good hand in the midcard against anyone. Only instead of Jimmy Hart we got PUPPIES! Owen was a great tag-team wrestler with the right people. Let's not forget we already saw Anvil and Owen, the New Foundation lol. But Owen with Yoko, Davey Boy, and Jarrett=Awesome.

For some reason they wanted Owen in puffy Hammer pants. I think my best friend had the New Foundation Jim Neidhart Hasbro figure though. It sucked.
