My apologizes if this is the incorrect place to ask this, but thought it would be a better place to ask, since there is a good amount of activity on this page in terms of fantasy baseball.

I'm in a 16 team league, so the waiver wire is pretty slim pickings and want to get an outside opinion before I pull the trigger.

I have Francisco Rodriguez, Hutson Street and Jason Grilli as my closers and need to get stronger in that category since Grilli is out of the role and going to be tough sailing for him to get it back from Melancon. The only closers on FA are the Rondon/Ramirez combo in Chicago, but there are a few options out there that I could parlay maybe into saves. Would love to get some opinions on my thought process:

-Tommy Hunter: Out of the role now, but could get easily get dealt at the deadline to a team like Cleveland or Oakland who are closing by committee.
-Joba Chamberlain: His stuff seems to be back with a good K per 9 ratio. Getting a bunch of holds and do not know if Nathan is going to be closing much longer, since he is still struggling to get guys out.
-Joaquin Benoit: Most likely to be dealt, but if the Padres end up trading Street near the deadline, probably the odds on favorite to win the role in San Diego.
-Brad Ziegler: Don't see Addison Reed losing that role and the D-Backs offense wouldn't give him a lot of saves opportunities anyways, but his stat line has been consistent with his career averages (sub 3.00 ERA, sub 1.20 WHIP and around a 7K per 9IP)

Personally, I am leaning towards Joba because even if Nathan turns it around, his K rate is solid and I can steal the holds category when going up against teams that are like mine with all closers and no RP.

In a 16 team league, I'm stunned that Ramirez and Joba are still out there.

Your best bet is Chamberlain for now. You can't take Benoit and park him on your bench, assuming that Street definitely will get dealt, and even if he did, you're still putting your faith in the Padres.

There have been rumblings about Chamberlain taking over all season, and if he doesn't, he's probably the one who helps you the most with stats if he doesn't get the promotion.

Thank you for the feedback, very much appreciated.

Joba got dropped last week for in part of a 2-1 trade (which never benefits the guy getting 2 players). Ramirez's stat line is solid, but the Cubs (no offense to any Cubs fan) aren't going to put up a lot of save opportunities this season.

With Nathan (and Verlander on the same team), I keep waiting to hear about arm injuries. Nathan has his age contributing to his decline but it's so steep that I'm expecting to hear of something else.

Errr, on that last point you could be surprised. Teams that score fewer runs often see ample save opportunities due to games being closer when they win.

Well they do have to get leads first. And it's the Cubs.

Rondon and Ramirez need to be owned and are easily your best bet. The thought process about the Cubs not putting up a lot of save opportunities because they aren't a good team isn't the right way of thinking. Kevin Gregg got 33 saves last year as a Cub. Kevin Gregg. Not to mention the Cubs have had 26 save opportunities per ESPN, 3 less than Detroit, the team of the set up man you are considering owning instead.

Doolittle is locked into the role and is a top five closer option for fantasy the rest of the year easily. Allen at Cleveland is also locked in at this point. And Tommy Hunter is horrific.

Cleveland has three much better options already than Hunter, even if he were traded to them.

Doolittle has a 53:1 strikeout to walk ratio on the SEASON.

i was gonna say maybe both sunday games started at the same time so the system couldn't rule one out, but they didn't. i know there was thing talked about earlier like a glitch regarding sunday pitchers or something.

It's not a huge deal, but it made the difference between 5-5 and 5-4-1, so it's pretty annoying.

How have you not noticed this happens yet!?

"NOTE: Game Limits apply to Pitchers only with the default for Game Starts set to 12 maximum. This means if you hit your limit of 12 game starts on Saturday, you would not receive pitching stats for the next day. If a team exceeds the pitching max in the middle of a day, the team will continue to accumulate pitching stats until the end of the day. "

No idea why I never noticed that. I've been benching guys on Sunday assuming only one could start.

Don't think Cewsh realised he had actually done the same thing with his relievers. Glad its gonna be tweaked next year coz it kinda blows.

I was actually totally confused by my situation. I thought I had 2 more starts, but it hadn't updated for the next day yet, so I actually lost two quality starts for being stupid. Then it had my relievers grayed out but counted two of them anyway. This is more on me being stupid and not looking into the new rules when we adopted them, but yeah, I was pretty baffled all the way around.

Do you mean that there's a limit on reliever plays as well, even if they aren't starts?

is the start limit doubled for this current head to head week since it's a longer match-up? i know the acquisition limit is increased, i'd like to be sure about the start limit, though, cause i haven't seen it anywhere on the site.

    The Seattle GM is Atty

    "
A third executive said, "They (the Mariners) don't set out on a trade saying, 'Here's what we need. Let's do what we can to get him.' They think, 'Who can we give up that will never be any good?' They don't want to give up anyone who will haunt them. That's just flat-out fear.""

I deserve a fricking knighthood for this season, news is breaking about Pedroia probably bring finished for the season, as well as Gonzales already being done and David Wright out again the night with shoulder problems, (so he's not looking good either).

Three of my top 5 picks (including my first rounder) shitting the bed, thank you baseball gods much appreciated.

Except that he has an abdominal strain for which the team is considering shutting him down. Once they're mathematically out of the wild card, they probably will. He got a start in the second game of a double header and the following day as the DH (being unable to play the field on back to back days) but that doesn't make him magically not hurt. Same story with the Yankees and anything Tanaka does between now and the end—it's a feel good story for guys to go out there but that doesn't mean they aren't hurt or playing through injury.

This is all more than a bit retarded given the players you moaned about earlier who played hurt and didn't contribute as they should before getting shut down. It's like you want things to bitch about.

I can't remember but I assume we'll get rid of the dodgy start limit? Honestly I'd like to switch to roto but I don't think that's a very popular opinion with everyone else which is fine.

And we do daily lineups, historically.

As for roto, i'm not a big fan of it, because I think it kind of takes part of the community element out of the game. You just don't get the same level of shit talking generally.

Hhm... I am not confident that I could commit to daily lineup changes and I don't want to be the "flake" of the league. If it were weekly I would play in a heartbeat.

Ordinarily I'd be against keepers since it gets messy when people come in and out of leagues, but we've all been playing together forever, so I think it would work. We just need to fill that last fucking league spot for onc.

Yeah I'm a definite no no for a weekly league as well. Tried it one season in the SMUL league and it was beyond awful, so much so I binned it the following year. Happy for the start limit shite to go as well and I'm down with Auction but would be happy with snake draft as well.

Side question, who's up for doing a baseball cash league like our NFL one?

Looking forward to another season, especially in this league You're all legends.

yeah, i'm not exactly for or against keepers. if it comes down to a vote i'd abstain.

definitely had to scrap the start limit. or at the very least increase it. but then it comes down to trying to hit a sweet spot with the number allowed, so it's probably just best to get rid of it all together.

i'd be all for the roto set-up, too. nice change of pace and method, and really lets the league come down to your team and players over the course of a whole season making the difference instead of weekly luck, or bad luck as it is most of the time.

Well since there's no majority on keepers or roto those are probably shelved for another year. I'd prefer no roto and I'm pro keepers just to try it, but weekly is a gigantic no for sure.

if the majority is on board for roto, though, I'm fine with it. Weekly is the only big no.

ROTO is a meh for me, wouldn't be devastated if we brought it in but I think I prefer standard, think. Keepers has to have the utmost commitment from all of us, I think if we we're doing it I would prefer we set up a 2nd league for it, just a personal opinion.

And guys what about a baseball cash league???????

i'd probably be interested in getting into a second league, that way i can diversify the people i have, like i tend to do with football. how much would we be putting up?

I love roto, but for our purposes, head to head is quite a bit better. I'm in favor of trying keepers, even if it's just a few players per team. Much more than that and it would get messy with people leaving the league but three or so would exist on even the worst team. And it makes the Troutershaw's all the more valuable. And my dream from three years ago of having Justin every year all the more depressing.

Oh yeah, and as one of the biggest advocates of the start limit I must say get rid of it. It was a good idea to police streaming but ended up be more frustrating than it was worth to keep Defrost from killing his era and whip each week to get wins and ks.

Atty, you up for a cash league? We could trial the keepers in that league?

Hold on a sec. If we're doing another league with all the same people, shouldn't the one we aren't betting money on be the one we experiment with?

I'm down with either way to be honest.

We still need a few people's (Torn, Atty, Hit etc) opinion on this. Whether they're interested etc.

I would be interested in a money league but I wouldn't join one unless it's roto. The main reason I am asking for roto opinions on the VIP league is because after many years with H2H playoffs it's a bit frustrating coming down to a week in September when a week is such a short time in baseball. Most of the season essentially counts for nothing. I mean the year I won I just streamed a bunch of junk pitchers at Atty in the final two weeks and happened to come out on top. I don't really care who I'm facing in the regular season match ups and I barely even care if I lose a week as long as I pick up enough categories. Which is easy enough to do just by streaming whoever you like. You're still playing against each other it just means April and the entire season has as much meaning as September.

I don't really know about keepers. I'm not particularly fussed.

That's a good point. As someone who has never even made the playoffs in our league it doesn't affect me, but I can see how it would make for a fairer format.
