Wow, Cool world, though? Makes me think of all of the animated films that would randomly come on a movie channel at all times of night. Heavy Metal, Fritz the Cat, shit like that...

Have you heard Casket Factory by chance? Pretty damn good. The only negative is that at times it feels like the beats have no bass, no thump, and if you're supposed to be a dead gangsta rapper, you better have some shit that blows out your windows.

1 Less G In Da Hood is my favorite, but I love all of the stuff he released on Psychopathic. His MNE stuff just ain't the same. I own everything that he has released sealed. Same with ICP, Twiztid, and all of the side groups. I'm still mad at Twiztid, but I've got too much invested to quit collecting now. I'll take a pic of everything I got and post it someday.

Don't judge me but I have recently made a terrifying discovery - I like cheesy, objectively terrible country-pop music. There is a band called Florida Georgia Line, and I can't stop listening to them.

Presumably this song will not be new to you lot in America but I'd never heard it until a few days ago...it's brilliant

Surprised you didn't go for the remix with Nelly.

You don't remember them being on Raw or performing for Tribute to the Troops? This was all within the last year I believe.

I'll say this...I'm not a fan, but the long haired guy has that thick southern accent that sounds awesome. I don't know why but I dig those straight up super country sounding singers voices. Not so much the lyrics and music but that old school stereotypical vocal is pretty fresh.

I had literally never heard of them and they look like stupid arseholes but I am lapping that shit up at the moment. I'm so far out of the loop nowadays, I thought I had uncovered an unknown band called Lady Antebellum last year only to find all their videos have like 600m views on YouTube.

It's mad how all these country stars have zero crossover to other countries. Luke Bryan is another who is stupid famous over there but I have never heard a song of his played over here.

I'll be 100% honest....I don't really think country music is really big anywhere but here in the US. I don't really hear about country stars doing European or international tours in general but that could also be that I don't really follow the genre. But it is massive. There is no genre more popular in the Untied States than country music. Especially over the last 20 years thanks to artists like Shania Twain and Faith Hill, more recently the obvious giant star Taylor Swift.

But like Swift learned, if you want to be a GLOBAL star, country will l limit you because as you said Simon, almost zero crossover to other countries.

I definitely feel that country has never been bigger than it has been the last decade or so. When rock bands are getting to a certain point now where they're going country or adding a heavy country influence to their music after X amount of years. So I bet sooner than later we're going to start seeing a shit ton of country artists turning into international stars without having to go pop like Taylor Swift. God damn she is so popular, I love her.

It's crazy when you realize just how popular country music still is even in this day and age where hip hop and EDM permeates so much of mainstream music, especially when you think about what you guys just pointed out - rap and electronic music is big all over the world, while country isnt, yet if you measure overall popularity, they're probably about even...

I can't deal with much country stuff other than Kenny Rogers and Hank Jr. I love me some bluegrass though. The music and the culture. The Gospel is a big part of it, so I doubt Simon would like it much at all. The merch table at the Dr. Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys show I went to in 2015 also had stacks of King James Bibles that they were giving out for free. There is also a good chance of hearing some preaching between songs at concerts. Especially with Ricky Skaggs. It's crazy how fast a lot of these dudes can (or could) pick too.

A guy I work with said it best, country is the new rock in the US. It's always been popular (country). I used to joke that once you turned 30 you had to ditch rock and rap and start listening to country. But now country has a lot of different elements that on one hand I'm not into but it definitely has helped.

Country artists are now using drum machines, synth sounds, shit the other day I was setting up a radio for my 7 year old and one of the 40 country stations here in Des Moines had some shit on that sounded like Metallica but it was like Jason Aldean or some shit like that who fuckin knows lol. But I mean shit, Nirvana and Alice In Chains are 2 of my favorite bands and they have a very strong folk-country influence that people don't catch that aren't big fans of theirs.

I'm honestly shocked that country isn't as big globally to a degree but I can definitely see why it isn't. It's VERY VERY VERY pro-American. Almost every artist has enough material to do 2-3 albums called "Songs about being in America". So I'm sure there are genres of music like skat that is huge in Romania but not even a blip on the radar on the rest of the planet.

Listening to Sister Hazel right now. Champagne High to be more specific. Next will be Nightswimming by REM. Nothing gets me more productive while working late at night quite like light 90s rock.

John Mayer is such an amazing musician. He fits in great with Bobby and the other guys. I have a hard time listening to this without crying. It's like Jerry is still here with us.

I took my wife to a country concert last year and the guy was great. I ended up putting all his albums on my ipod but they didn't sound nearly as good as he did live. And shockingly none of his songs are of the "America rah rah" variety.

I posted this in the metal thread, but I honestly haven't been listening to much else:

After you posted that in the metal thread I downloaded it and played it on a long car trip. My wife’s reaction was something like “oh I like this. This is good...kind of reminds of that other band you like, In This Mome...WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?”

I'm kinda late on X's music, dude showed a lot of promise. Shame he had to go before he could fully realize his potential...

Lots of synth-wave stuff. Pretty stoked for The Midnight's new album next month.

What'd you think of Twiztid and Blaze doing a Dark Lotus set at Attack of the Ninjas this weekend?

I don't like it. Dark Lotus is dead. ICP moved on. Twiztid and Blaze should too.

I thought it was strange and probably done in spite of ICP due to them saying Dark Lotus was dead and they wouldn't work with Twiztid ever again. But I mean, these are the same dudes who used to go around and tear down ICP flyers like a bunch of bitches. I love Twiztid's music but that's about it. I don't care how sweet their vintage collections are.

I still jam the PSY stuff, and I still buy the audio to add to my collection, but I don't think I'll ever go to another Twiztid concert.

I woke up around 4am one morning to find my TV still on and tuned to (I think) VH1, and this video came on. The song got stuck in my head to the point where I had to seek it out...

This might sound crazy, but when I listen to this, I picture some dude strutting in slow motion through a zombie apocalypse. Buildings are burning, zombies are feasting and all sorts of chaos are going on, but through it all, this guy is just walking down the street cool as can be, like everything's golden. Thats what this beat sounds like to me.

I’ve never particularly liked Disturbed, from the end section of ‘down with the sickness’ and putting lyrics to SCSA’s music but this tune passes the test:

True, but that shouldn't be the intended audience anyway. No matter what direction the mainstream and even parts of the underground go in, lyricism will always have a place in Hip Hop. Regardless of how many Lil' Schmoes and Yung Joe Blow's take over the airwaves, just know that somewhere, some kid is listening to something like this and writing some next level shit, and that somebody will be ready to listen.

People can talk shit about Indiana all they want, but we have always had fuckin raw underground talent. Gary was the murder capital back in the 90's and it's still grimy as fuck. I wish I could find stuff like this these day.

That per capita shit lol. 120,000 people in Gary IN in 1994 with 110 people killed. The fuck was going on there, population control? Did Michael Jackson take issue with too many people in his hometown?

With that said....You ever hear of the group Sycksyde? They were out of Anderson, IN. Bob E. Nite, Icepick Willie, Sinister X, Mr. Kiltcha, Franky Frank.

These dudes were super influential to me in terms of I felt they kept that Mike E. Clark/Riddlebox sound alive when ICP kind of went toward more rock guitars and mainstream-ish sound with the lyrics and beats. I think this song was from 2001? Most of these dudes are doing shit still but damn they're all like 45-50 by now.

I meant murder rate. I blame the NRA.

I don't listen to any of them dudes, but I've seen some of em live. I liked Chamber the most out of all of em, but he's an arrogant douche. I don't even know what label any of them are signed to now. 3SE was pretty popular back in the day though.

The worst I ever got my ass kicked at a show was in Anderson at some bar where Q-Strange & Majik Duce were playing. Just an all around violent show.

I would love to one day chop it up with you about a lot of these underground dudes I have stories for days.

3SE I believe is dead. I talk to Icepick Willie on the regular, he's been one of my closest friends for years. They are just too old and have too much going on.

Chamber lol. Yo I've known that kid for 17 years, he almost moved to Iowa to join the group I was in at the time, this was back in 2002-2003. I agree though about his attitude. The very first show he ever did he was the opener and then went on a rant to me about how he was going to never perform again because nobody in the crowd knew his shit.

Seriously though, try to find the track by Room 47 called "Prophets" (I think that was the name). Room 47 was Chamber and this dude named Reaktion aka Gravestoner.

Q-Strange. That dude had serious potential even if he tried to pretend he never heard of ICP or Twiztid until after he started releasing music even though he sounded just like Jamie Madrox lol. Rumor was that he was going to be the first artist on Twiztid's original Majik Records but Tom Dub stole all twiztid's money and Q-Strange hid Dub from everyone so there was some serious heat on Q. Now he lives in Vegas a DJ and looks like a fucking assclown from Jersey Shore.

Majik Duce I still chop it up with to this day.

Apparently Delores O'Riordan was supposed to put her vocals on this track the day she died. Would have loved to hear that as I think this is a great cover.

Jim Cornette told a story recently about this song being Flash Funk's entrance theme his first night.

So I looked it up and fell in love.

    Ahhh BANG BANG

Rocking out to some Black Label Society right now, and all is right in the world.

I'm not sure what to think of that.

I'm still trying to figure it out myself but I donated a $1 toward the potential movie they're trying to make.

I just can't listen to them anymore. I know that ND and me have discussed it before. I think it would have been better if Jerry Cantrell would have taken over all vocals. I dislike Sublime with the new dude just as much.

Alice In Chains is easily in my top 5 favorite musical acts period.

The problem is that Jerry can't do all the vocals. A lot of those songs were specifically written to accommodate Layne and Jerry essentially being a dual lead singer band. Some songs just wouldn't sound right and trust me I've seen Jerry live trying to do some of the AIC stuff and if someone isn't doing Layne's part it sucks.

I honestly never heard anything other than the remake of What I Got? with the new singer. The guy sounds EXACTLY like Brad but Sublime also didn't have the place in music history like AIC so it's not as difficult for me to accept whatever they were doing because it wasn't for the long term.

Yeah man I get that. I've also never seen them live. I just don't like replacing vocalists.

That song is actually about Layne.
