Currently listening to the first Brand New album released in eight years and it is beautiful and I hate that I love them so much because they're assholes and love them more because of that fact.

Man I have to be honest I haven't really enjoyed anyone on that label but ICP, Twiztid, and Esham. I listened to some Big Hoodoo for the first time the other day. It was alright. Blaze has some good shit here and there (or had). Tried to bump some Lyte, naw. This Quija Macc probably the worst shit since the girl they had. I just hate that style of rap this kid is doing, makes me fucking sad.

Stone temple pilots has a new singer and he is actually very good. Sounds a bit like Weiland but not enough to make him a pure copy. Sounded really good on thier live concert they have broadcasting right now.

I really do hate it when bands replace singers. The worst was replacing Layne Staley with William Duvall. Jerry Cantrell would have done fine doing lead vocals for AiC. Pink Floyd is the only band that did it right by adding David Gilmour before Syd's departure.

Jerry does about 95% of the vocals with Will basically doing back up. AIC is in my top 5 of any genre so I do miss Layne but Jerry did most of the writing and took on more of the vocals after Dirt. The last 2 albums they dropped post Layne were very good.

STP with Chester from LP was good.

The problem is when they simply grab someone to play karaoke

Don't really know much about this kid, "Congratulations" is pretty fuckin catchy but yeah not really into the current scene but this was something I stumbled across. I thought, good, at least this motherfucker knows some good shit. Read in the comments he was like in a heavy metal band at one point and recently did some Megadeth shit.

What makes me mad is he's been talkin about his PSY debut release for 12 years. He even told people on the 2005 Hallowicked tour that Platinum Underground was actually released on PSY.

Been on a big In Flames kick lately. Never really cared to follow their stuff after Come Clarity and A Sense of Purpose, but nothing will take away the greatness of their first four albums. Clayman was one of the first albums you could hear the style slowly changing to a more rhythmic affair, but songs like this one prove that it was still a strong outing. Fuck, man. So much nostalgia in this song.

^^^ Probably where I stop in terms of In Flames. Great song. The last time I saw them live was when they were touring off Siren Charms, and they were really great live, even the stuff I didn't recognize. Shame the latter stuff sounds like garbage on disc.

As far as what I've been jammin' lately . . .

Was listening to this album last year. Friend was listening to it just a few days ago, and now I'm back on a Dead South kick.

Don't you think AC/DC got it right with Brian Johnson? I mean losing Bon Scott was absolutely terrible as he is the better frontman, but Brian Johsnon was a very suitable replacement in my opinion.

Most def. I think I forgot about him since I don't listen to them much anymore. They didn't bring in a new vocalist, but The Doors should be mentioned. They were horrible after Jim Morrison died.

2 THINGS....First off, I didn't even know the Doors continued after Jim Morrison died other than the shit they did wayyyy later where they would have Eddie Veddar or Scott Stapp sing with them. That shit was pretty cool. I can dig that, paying homage to the legends type stuff.

Second....AC/DC are probably 1 of the only bands who were able to lose a singer while being a big band and actually getting BIGGER after getting the new guy. And Brian Johnson had a similar voice but it seemed like Bon Scott was way more punk rock with his vocal approach. Someone help me out, did the Young brothers write Bon Scott's stuff? I'm pretty positive I heard they wrote the lyrics on everything since Brian took over but I thought maybe Bon wrote his own stuff and that's why he sounded a lot different than Johnson.

Either way they are a boring band, how can you make billions off the same riff and drum beat?

Skynyrd didn't get bigger after Ronnie died, but they kept going. It wasn't terrible but obviously I don't know how good they were when Ronnie was singing.

I just don't like when it feels like a cash grab. Like Queen having Adam Lambert singing for them. Out of all the singers in the world this reality show kid is the best option? What happened to Paul Rodgers??

Oh I totally agree with you. Lambert's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Out of all the bands that head out on the road with a different lead singer, there's a very small percentage that I don't end up hating.

For example I didn't mind AIC bringing in Duvall. They've always had 2 singers and Jerry did 90% of the writing both lyrically and musically. And it didn't feel like a cash grab because how long has Layne been gone? 10-15 years? It's why I can appreciate the path of Dave Grohl post-Nirvana. They didn't try to make a Nirvana 2.0 and him and Krist even scrapped the idea of them continuing on (although some of their collaborations, in their final form, made it to the debut i.e. For All The Cows, Big Me, a few others that Krist played on some demos).

Taking it over to rap....Remember when they tried to do an NWA record with Snoop Dogg? I was like, if anyone could have been in that crew, sure, Snoop fits, but it wasn't the same when you finally heard it.

I'm trying to think of a band who were super established that lost their singer and were still truly successful after the fact with a new singer. Like, I'm curious what Linkin Park will do next. They're kind of in the same boat as an AIC where you had Chester not really doing a lot of writing and making the music but his voice with that group, how do you have LP without that voice from that man?

They didn't "lose" their lead singers, but Genesis and Van Halen are kind of in that gray area of changing lead singers and still continuing on. Genesis went from Phil Collins to Peter Gabriel and Van Halen went from David Lee Roth to Hagar.

And then you have the so called "super groups" from a few years ago. Like Audioslave and Velvet Revolver. Both were established bands that changed directions from their previous sound and went on to be popular. Again, obviously not the same thing but sort of.

As far as LP goes, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to find a new singer, put out one terrible album, and then dissolve. Shinoda can go back to producing or even blow the dust off his rap tracks.

And shit I'd even say that Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins are bigger than Genesis ever was.

Van Halen is like AC/DC in the sense that there is clearly a divide with their fans. You have the Bon Scott fans or the DLR fans who hate the guys who followed up.

I love supergroups. Temple of the Dog, Damn Yankees, Mad Season, Audio Slave, Velvet Revolver in terms of rock those bands are fucking sick. Hell Yeah is another.

Mad Season is great, but any band fronted by Staley will be awesome. Temple of the Dog is the only time I've ever liked Cornell. Ever.

I'm a massive AC/DC fan and find them anything but boring. Drums can be a bit repetitive, but all the songs in my opinion have unique riffs and solos. They just write their songs about the same stuff.

Yeah Layne Staley is my favorite vocalist of all time. I wish we could have been given more music from him.

I will say this about Chris Cornell. I consider his voice one of the best rock voices of all time but I can definitely see why some would disagree.

In terms of getting fired up for a football game or ECW walk out music, fuck yeah they are anything but boring. I just mean from the song writing perspective. Same riffs, same beats, same solos. I don't mean note for note I just mean the structure, the cadence, the approach in general. I'm not saying they suck or anything it's just not for me. There's no range, no diversity over 30-40 years.

I respect Cornell's voice and understand why people love it....I just don't care for it, if that makes sense.

Love this band. Listening more to their newest stuff than older; reminds me like Orgy and Mindless Self Induglence put together. There's a live version I saw of the song but the sound quality wasn't the greatest.

I like it. Just got the new CD last week. The concert DVD included makes it a really great deal that even if I had not liked the CD, a 2+ hour concert included for $12 was a fucking good deal.

Now that I can embed, expect lots of Hip Hop, both classic and current, and anything random I can think of.

One more 3rd Bass joint just because. I love the story of them allegedly originally writing this song for Rakim, at the request of Russell Simmons, and Eric B., after finding this out, going to the Def Jam office and blowing a fucking gasket.

One of my memories of 3rd Bass was seeing MC Serch dance like the whitest of white people on Arsenio when they performed. I have a lot of love and respect for 3rd Bass. Did you know Pete Nice was a shady baseball memorabilia collector now? Still, they had some good shit. Somewhat surprised they never really had much of a career but Serch was pretty weak on the mic.

The one draw back of my age (28) is that I missed out on seeing a lot of those small moments as they happened, as opposed to researching it later. As for 3rd Bass, Serch specifically, their legacy is ultimately the three big songs they had and Serch discovering Nas.

It's badass though that you're interested in the "golden era" so to speak of hip hop. I don't know too many people under the age of 30 who even give a shit about Wu Tang, Nas, Outkast, etc. so it's cool man real cool.

If you haven't, take a minute to look up 3rd Bass on Arsenio Hall and watch Serch dance. It's like watching a parody of white people in that era trying to be hip hop. And to his credit he WAS a true hip hop head but it was just funny years later going back.

My earliest memories of hip hop fall around the tail end of that era (96-97), so that stuff always holds a special place in my heart. For years, I had the "born in the wrong era" mentality but looking a bit deeper, I actually like that I'm young enough to understand and even like a lot of the new stuff, but old enough to appreciate the classics. The same holds true for pro wrestling as well.

I'm goin to see Shaggy 2 Dope tonight with Lyte and Ouija Macc. I wasn't much into Lyte when Psy first signed him, but I've got to where I like him more each time I listen to him or see him live. Same with Ouija Macc.

Quija Macc is too much of a "try hard" for me to ever get into. The only negative I have about Lyte is his name. I just constantly think it's someone shortening MC Lyte. He's dope.

    How was the show?

Bulletproof and the Fool opened the show. I don't like their music at all, and I don't much like them. A dude that runs with them is a neo-Nazi. They played the last show I was at and we seen him giving people salutes. One of the friends I was with called him out and he dipped so we couldn't find him. He was there yesterday dressed as a cop wearing one of them stupid plague masks. He got into the crowd at the end of their set and was doing some zombie slam dance type stuff. I don't know how else to describe it. He seen us though and went out of his way to not hit us t all. I wasn't gonna do anything stupid to get kicked out before Lyte and Shaggy got to put it down. It blows my mind though. He would have been stomped back in the day for that shit. The venue messed the sound up after that. They worked for at least an hour getting it fixed, then they had to go buy batteries for the wireless mics. Shaggy killed it though. It was small too. Maybe 150 there at most. You should check his last solo out. I really dig it.

I figured he probably wouldn't have that great of a turnout but he's also not booking shows at big ass venues but the smaller ones that generally hold MAYBE 3-500 people at most just in case.

I dig the smaller, more intimate shows. The tour hasn't been promoted that much either. The venue I was at has a max limit of 300 I think.

You see Mars got stabbed at an awards show in Cali a couple weeks back? I don't know the story but homeboy was in the hospital for a little while. Man I've known Mario for almost 20 years going back to him doing Mad Insanity and getting some play on Rydas.com He also dated one of my best friends for a little while back in like 2002-2003.

Funny story. A promoter here in Des Moines was tight with the DRP (Primer 55 who transitioned to rapping). So we put DRP on one of his very first rap shows and then he came back a few months later with Mars on a tour they were doing I THINK for that School House album. Well, it was a Sunday and the World Food Fair was going on a block away. So A-no parking whatsoever. B-Maybe 50 people showed up. He wasn't angry as much as he was frustrated, to the point where it was to my knowledge the first time in probably his entire time as Mars/Mad Insanity where he didn't even wear the Hannibal mask.

I felt bad because part of me was like shit I know this dude pretty well but he understood the situation, just a bad venue to book that day due to the food fair.

For some reason, "Stage" by Live popped into my head the other day and I've been listening to Throwing Copper for two days.

Haven't listened to that album in years. So fucking good.

Oh dude you need to pick it up asap. The beats, the guest spots, the ROC just murders every track.

I just picked up the MNE version of Green Book. Nothing really different, they added some background hokey silent film music to the first skit but that was about it. It's one of my favorite Twiztid albums.

I love Mostasteless and Freek Show, but I think The Green Book is their best album. Heartbroken & Homicidal is really the only album Twiztid released on Psy that I don't like.

This became more inspirational as I got older.

Since we're in the 'posting full albums' mood, figured I post one of my favorites. When it comes to classic hip hop albums, this tends to get overlooked for some weird reason. "Power" gets talked about more often because of it's classic cover (Darlene is still fine as hell), but to me this album is way better.

Something I'm jamming while formatting the WWE MOTY Master List. I haven't listened to this album in quite a few years.
