    The Impact Wrestling Thread

Since there is never enough interest in Impact to warrant devoted threads, I figured I'd do what we used to do years ago... have one single thread for discussion of IMPACT Wrestling.

Tonight (7/5/2012) is the go-home edition of Impact for Destination X. Destination X's card is awesome, and pretty much every show since Slammiversary has been great.

Confirmed for Tonight are Gail Kim & Madison Rayne vs. Brooke Tessmacher & Tara, as well as James Storm vs. Jeff Hardy in the Bound For Glory Series.

    I'm looking forward to it.

I'd like to believe that Storm/Hardy was originally set for the PPV, but the fact that The X Division Championship Tournament takes up 5 match slots (not complaining, I love one-night Tournaments) is probably why this is on Impact. Should be a good match.

    1) This is a good idea.

    2) I swear.. every photo they take of Jeff Hardy is somehow dumber than the one before it. Jesus. Just look at him.

Hopefully Jeff Hardy/James Storm is given enough time since its the Main Event and they don't rush right through it. How many Matches are on the PPV this weekend?

X Division Tournament = 4 One on One Matches & 1 Four Way Ultimate X Match

    Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels in a Last Man Standing Match

    and

World Champion Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries

That's 8, the usual for a TNA PPV.

They've managed to quickly kill Crimson.

Loved his cocky undefeated gimmick. Now he's jobbing to Devon. No offense to Devon, but put the belt on someone that can put on watchable TV matches.

Pretty obvious Claire Lynch is aligned with Daniels/Kaz, but I can't wait for the Claire's a whore chants.

Darsow is fucking brutal. Cassanova's nothing but a reckless spot monkey, but looked great compared to Darsow.

Match sucked, but IMO any match involving Darsow would.

Cassanova wasn't even a good spot monkey. He was botching everything. Absolutely terrible.

These 2 X matches tonight have been completely filled with botches (probably not best time to be live). King pretty impressive at the finish.

Isn't King currently contracted to ROH, and one of the Tag Champs?

I thought the company was moving towards talent contracts that limit them from working other TV Shows..

He is done with ROH after appearing live on last nights show.

    ROH-Kenny King Update

The appearance of ROH wrestler Kenny King on another television wrestling program tonight has raised speculation on his future as well as how this appearance could occur.

The contract Kenny King signed in June 2011 expired 11 days ago. Before that expiration, an agreement was reached between Kenny and ROH management for an extension of that contract, with a provision to allow him to negotiate with any other promotions so that he could evaluate his options and any potential interest in him elsewhere. When that short extension concluded he would then be free to accept an offer elsewhere, or sign another long term contract with ROH. Under this agreement, Kenny was free to negotiate but not to wrestle for another organization without ROH's permission.

When Kenny was presented with the written extension reflecting this verbal and handshake agreement, he informed ROH he was unsure if other promotions would accept the negotiation clause. He was told he could take the document to be examined by his attorney or other interested parties before executing it to be reassured any other offers would not be viewed as contract tampering. He also informed ROH that he would keep us apprised of any developments.

He contacted ROH on Tuesday July 3 to inform us that he had a meeting in Orlando on Thursday, July 5, which was within the scope of the agreement he had made. Then, early morning on July 5, he contacted an ROH official to say he would be wrestling on the Orlando event that night. He was told he did not have permission to appear live on television as it violated the agreement that had been made. His response was that the deal he had shaken hands on and agreed to in principle "seemed fair at the time", but "others" had told him it was not, so he did not intend to honor it.

Ring of Honor is disappointed that Kenny has chosen to make this decision, after the company had agreed to and followed through on everything he had asked for at the time of our negotiation. However, we consider this breach of his verbal agreement unacceptable, and regardless of his future employment status with any other wrestling company, ROH will not be doing business with Kenny King going forward.

A statement from ROH will be forthcoming regarding the future of the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Co-holder Rhett Titus remains on the active ROH roster.

I actually agree. It's been a long time since I've been able to say it, but it is now fucking official. It's funny how that coincides with the Bischoffs being taken off TV and Hogan cutting back a little bit on TV time.

Everything's just clicking. The BFG Series FEELS important this year. The World Title FEELS important (for the first time since they dropped the NWA belt). Everything's just running on all cylinders. Hell, they're even making the Impact Zone be a loud/entertaining crowd for the first time in 5 years.

My feeling has always been have one angle that REALLY grabs me and the rest of the show at least be solid and I'll be very much entertained and Impact has done a good job of that lately.

I'm also into the whole Joey Ryan angle as well.

Should be a great main event!

I honestly cannot wait for Impact tonight.

My credential from The Destination X VIP Experience would actually get me in to Impact 1st tonight as well as a post show meet'n'greet... but I don't have the $65 for gas and parking. Dammit.

I was hoping they'd go this route. Joseph IS Abyss, suffering from multiple personality disorder. This could be fun.

Can't wait to see where Aries/Roode goes.

    RVD/Joe was good, but short.

Good GOD this AJ storyline is unwatchable.

As much as I dislike the AJ/Daniels/Crack Whore. I really dislike making the injury a large part of getting someone some heel heat. Then again, Owen/Austin. Good X-Division match though.

Actually bothered to put this on as I wrap up some work and it ain't half bad.

I really like how the backstage segments are shot. Makes it feel more real than every wrestler getting special background lighting.

    EDIT: Fuck, Sting. Great.

amazing impact. i thought it was flawless beginning to end. damn i'm suprised... i actually enjoyed the knockout title match too and i've HATED women wrestling for a while now. Tna is awesome now. The aces and 8 part could of been better but it wasn't that bad.

    Solid Impact.

Looks like we're getting Sting/Hogan together at BFG. Smart move to do this going to unknown territory (PHX) for 1st time. Probably doubtful, but I'd like to see these masked guys go over (vs. being the end of them after losing to Sting/Hogan). Looks like it'll be Aces/8s vs. Sting/Hogan/Devon/Garrett. Garrett beat down backstage early during event....comes out end of match and turns on Sting/Hogan/Devon & it's revealed he's the mastermind behind this group. If Garrett's in the company, he needs to be a heel. (whether it be as wrestler or manager)

Still not into the whole Claire thing. Pretty obvious she was with Daniels/Kaz to begin with the bizarre storytelling.

Bully/Park has been amazing work by both. Never thought I'd enjoy anything involving Abyss. Bad part is it looks like he'll morph into Abyss....and hard to say what exactly he'll do after this whole Bully Ray thing ends. Bully's been awesome in his singles heel role.

I haven't paid any attention to TNA and have often derided them but I did dig what I initially saw as background noise tonight, going so far as to stop working, stand up and look at the television.

The whole Maury Show, "You ARE the child's father!" is just stupid and screams Russo, but he's not there anymore, right?

Fill me in, who are the masked dudes? I like them. Have they been around a while? I thought the whole Hogan entrance theme for 30 minutes was stupid (also I don't need to see Sting these days), but when it turned out he got jumped and then when they attacked Sting, I was like, "Man, I'm actually going to watch next week now."

I do hate Tenay, though. I hate him. The sound of his voice makes me not want to watch. And I hate the Impact Zone and how most of the people are tourists who were late for some ride, but the chants during Austin Aries promo were pretty great.

Apparently they're going to be by me soon in Brooklyn? I may see if I can hit that up.

Nope, Russo no longer works there.

We don't know who the masked guys are yet, aside from Hulk Hogan getting mysterious notes about "Aces and 8s" which is known in cards as the Dead Man's Hand. Aside from them fucking with Hogan, we don't know much as of yet.

I haven't watched Impact in over a year, and after reading the results to Destination X, which seemed to be a pretty solid show, I decided to tune in, and I must admit, I'll tune in again next week as well. Truth be told the only part of the show I didn't like was the "Baby Daddy" storyline. It needs to go away.

I think Jarrett is one of them. There's a big guy in the group that has a very similar build to Luke Gallows. Not sure of the rest.

Someone mentioned Chris Masters recently. Going on build is always tricky though when they're masked because it's rarely the actual guys they have in mind until they do the reveal.

Chris Masters has been hinting heavily on his Twitter that his fans shouldn't worry about badmouthing TNA for not signing him yet because "you never know."

I wonder if Aces & Eights will get a fake James Storm to join them and then when the real Storm gets to the battle between them & TNA, he walks out on everyone

Just caught the show, nice twist with Storm, its even got me wondering.

Whats the deal with Roode & King though, I don't get how Aries would really care

Well, they've touched on Aries and King's past (in ROH, FYI) by acknowledging the fact they were friends before King came into TNA. Naturally, Roode would go after Aries' friend to piss him off.

Just to throw logic in there

They need to reveal *something* about aces and eights soon. I loved their initial impact and beatdowns but if we get thee or more weeks of it, it'll lose it's steam.
Even capture and unmask one of them and try get him to talk.
Something to keep it moving in a positive direction.

I think that's part of it but I also think the reason why Roode attacked King was to cost him his "opportunity." I believe he said something to the camera about ruining opportunities (presumably out of hate on how Aries cashed in on his opportunity at Destination X).

What a weird ending. Storm calls out aces & eights, he and bully ray get into it, angle holds back rude only for AA to randomly come in and then...there's 2 brawls going on as the crowd is silent and Kurt Angle just stands around in the middle of it. Seemed to pointless.

Other than that, the women's match went on WAY too long and the baby shower was kind of boring. Meh, 5/10 show tonight.

Other than the Opening Tag this was really a blah Impact. Bully Ray/Zack Ryder Version 2.0 was pointless, why is Robbie E even in the Tournament? The 4-Way KO Match was just sloppy and a dumb ending. The Daniels/Kaz/Claire thing was HORRIBLE,I wish they would end that dumb Storyline. Angle/Storm is alright but odd ending with everyone standing around and 2 fights. I think TNA's little hotstreak has ended.

The opening tag was brilliant.. (especially how they started it off, even before Impact kicked off).

The A&8s bits were pretty good and served a purpose... especially with Brisco right there among Angle, Devon, and Bischoff... Anyone who can't see that foreshadowing, ain't been watching wrestling

I'm like everyone else...why is Robbie E even in the BfG series? I guess they had to have one jobber in there...

The KO match.. SLOPPY!! And i hate storylines that involve referees like this... (didn't they do this storyline previously with the Beautiful people and another official? And I thought Brooke was going to make sure the division was taken seriously?)

Chavo vs. Kash... Dunno, that match was just missing something for me.
ODB/EY - Please, can we just drop this stupid idea? I was willing to give it a chance (as i like EY in his comedy role.. but that was just... PAINFUL!
The Baby-shower.. what the hell was that point of that?
The Angle/storm match was very good (IMO), and I actually liked the fact that Bubba jumped in to try to further hurt his opponent for next week. (I mean there was honestly no reason for bubba to be out there originally, as he (to my recollection) wasn't ever jumped by A&8's). I'll be honest, when Brooke got the cards, I was kind of expecting the video cameras to show A&8's ambushing/kidnapping Brooke while the key players, especially Sting, were at ringside, especially when they pointed out that Hogan asked him to keep an eye on her... and I didn't even get that.

But I guess they have to keep the Storm is he/isn't he A&8's.... (which I like the fact that Sting is in this storyline, ala the old Sting - NWO is he/isn't he bit)

(Of course, one other flaw.. did Sting ever ask the guy who delivered the package what the guy looked like who dropped it off?)

Chavo is looking bad in the ring. He's slow, uncharasmatic, and wrestles like any other Eddie clone. Why was this guy talking so much trash when he got let go from wwe?

I enjoyed Impact again this week. It WAS weaker than it has been, but STILL miles better than just a few months ago.

The best thing about it is that I'm really curious as to where everything is going. I care. That's what matters.

Well, except for the AJ storyline, but I fast-forward that segment every week so it's like it doesn't exist.

    JAMES STORM vs. BULLY RAY

    AJ STYLES vs. KURT ANGLE

ROB VAN DAM vs. D'ANGELO DINERO

in the BFG SERIES next week on Impact. GREAT MATCHES, can't wait.

Well, it's general admission... and I'll be on the "free" line outside of Universal... So I'll be waiting all day to get in.... and will be one of the last people in the door. 99.99% chance of not being visible on TV. Worst seats in the house, but it's a small building, so the worst seats in the house are still $70 tickets to a Smackdown taping or $100 tickets to a WWE PPV.

Last time I paid to get in first. $100 a pop.

Am I the only one thats over AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels Matches every week? It seems like they meet every week and the Feud is just stale as hell. Let AJ face Joe or Jeff Hardy but enough with Daniels.

I totally agree that TNA has inexplicably managed to make one of my favorite matches of all time (AJ vs. Daniels) into a stale/cheesy feud that has now officially been going on for 14 months.... but I'll be damned if they don't pull out a good match every time still.

Ray vs. Hardy should be good too, and I'm curious how Magnus/Joe will play out.

I would never let Brooke Hogan introduce me to her Dad let alone debut someone after that delivery

Man.......wish they hadn't done the attack on Storm so quick. Could have really played that one out for a while. Just pray that Hogan isn't behind it because there is no need for him to be in the spotlight right now.

As long as it isn't Hogan behind Aces & Eights, there shouldn't be too much of an issue with the group

Brooke Hogan falling down was funny as hell. What was the point of changing the KO Champion twice in the same week?

Amazing how much of a failure she is. At everything in life.

Oldest looking 24 year old I've ever seen. She looks like she's in her 50's/60's.

actually it made a lot of sense... you think all those bodies were the key players? Of course not.. they hired a bunch of "Goons" to narrow it down to who was left in the ring.. and then the key 5 (it's always been 5 or 6?) jump the guys left behind... it was a very well done storyline through the show, and the A&8's came out looking pretty smart... sending everyone after the "ghosts" leaving behind the victim, AA.

Not really seeing it that way...but I can see where you are coming from in a way they might be headed. One thing is for sure ole Luke Gallows is looking huge as the "leader" of the group at this point.

And with that this can be put to rest. Aces and 8s, it's now your ball to drop.

It would be nice if they had 7 members and they could do a best of 7 to put them over. If there's 1 thing learned from Nexus, TNA needs to continue to make them look bad ass to keep them over. And if I may ramble on, I'm glad there's no dominant Cena type here because everything comes off looking evenly matched.

This. Yes. God. I had a long post typed up in the Aces & 8s thread I never bothered submitting, but it basically echoed that.

Granted, without being able to recall specifics (and being too lazy to look it up) I don't know how long this has been going compared to Nexus and when it first started... and it could go south still. But like you said, they seem to have made them look credibly threatening so far, with the roster united against them and such.

It seems to me, as someone who doesn't REALLY follow TNA but reads the recaps and watches key segments when they post them to YouTube, that for all the shit they've gotten over storylines like the AJ and Claire thing, TNA does seem to know how to make most of their talent look good when compared to each other. There a divide between X-Division and everyone else in terms of style, sure, but there isn't that main-event and everyone else divide, at least from my perspective, that exists in WWE. Take a guy like Robbie E. Basically their Zack Ryder. Probably no better on the mic or in the ring, maybe not even as good... but there he is mixing it up with bonafide main eventers on a regular basis, even before the BFG series.

One thing TNA has is the ability to switch peoples place on the roster at almost no notice, yes they have their 'top guys' but they are willing to mix and match who goes where (and not just to feed the big names easy wins either) now you can spin this both ways since it's easy to say it's because they have no long term ideas, or that they have no depth of talent so everyone is closer together, but still for me it's one of the reasons I held faith in the damn place, you could always see someone like Bully Ray getting the chance to really get a shot.

It's easy when guys you've marketed well over the years (Styles, Daniels, Joe, Aries... Angle you can toss in) are versatile enough to have a decent match with anyone on the roster, while also being able to chase any title they wish.

    Well, Devon's gone.

Shame, he may not have had a terribly extensive move-set but he was charismatic as hell and was more than solid in the ring.

I do find it rather odd that management decided to let him go while being a current title holder..
