The Shield is amazing, is it streaming anywhere in America or just like UK Netflix? I need to do a rewatch of it soon. One of the best dramas ever.

I don't use a VPN but I do use a DNS service called Unblock-US which is excellent. Using http://www.moreflicks.com/ you can find movies or TV shows playing across different Netflix regions and best of all it all plays in English no matter which service you're using.

I always thought Unblock-US was a VPN service

I was thinking we should try again with the Rajah film club if there's a bunch of us with access to all of the stores.

If I have Netflix UK, could I just use Hola and log in the same way and get access to more US stuff or do I need a US account?

I use Zenmate on Google Chrome and it's a dream.

On Apple TV I just change the DNS and it thinks I'm in America.

The U.S. one is a bit shit. It is a different catalogue than ours but no better IMO. Canada, Sweden and Netherlands is where it is at.

just watched Son of a Gun with Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwates. Pretty gritty movie with some great acting and a haunting score. Loved the ending. Probably a solid 8/10 for me.

    Recently on Netflix I have watched;

Starlet, which was this dream film about a sexy blonde girl who befriends an older lady out of guilt.

Mardaani, basically an Indian version of 'Taken' with a woman as the lead.

Dealin' With Idiots, a dry comedy about weird parents and their fascination with kids sports.

Miss Violence, a tweaky Greek drama about a girl who commits suicide.

    Hot Rod
, a quality cult comedy starring Andy Samberg with many quotable lines.

The Manchurian Candidate, a remake of a 1960's classic starring Denzel Washington. Very weird, solid film.

And then a fuck load of Documentaries; full list here and here

Making of a Murderer, is a new 10 part documentary.I seriously don't want to spoil it for anyone so all I'll say is that it is in a similar vein as 'The Jinx' and 'The Staircase'.

I watched the first 4 episodes yesterday and I'm hooked. Each episode ends with a really great cliffhanger that makes you want to start the next one straight away. I'm purposefully not looking up the story online so I do not spoil the remainder of the episodes for myself.

If you dont have Netflix the first episode is available on YouTube:

Just wrapped up Jessica Jones (killer show btw) and I need to know, outside of this Making A Murderer-which I've heard great things about, what other new exclusive to Netflix shows should I start next?

Yeah Im onto episode five and its really good. I already knew the story though so it was a bit spoiled - think it was on something like FBI files before (unless a really similar case). Anyway its getting stick online for bending the truth for drama but I can let it slide as most documentaries do anyway.

I can only hope you've watched and love BoJack Horseman.

Like I said, I don't think it's terrible but it just doesn't hit the mark for me. Willing to watch all the episodes and see if I'll reevaluate it by the end of things. There are bits that I dig.

I was genuinely a little shocked by far they took that scene. Kudos to ol' Billy Burr.

OK, we watched the rest of the episodes tonight. That bedroom scene you're talking about was fantastic, definitely the apex of the show. I still stand by it being fairly mediocre overall, though. Just felt like it only got halfway there. Pales in comparison to stuff like BoJack.

Agree with most of war's been said. F is for Family is pretty likeable, if not just the same vibe every episode.

Making a Murderer is fucking class though. Toughest thing is not looking up what on earth happens.

I watched White God yesterday on Netflix, easily a top 10 film of the year for me. Just unbelievable.

I wish modern 2D animation just didn't look so shit. Cartoons have looked crap since Ren and Stimpy. Give me Turtles and Thundercats style of animation any day.
Basically I wish it was the 80's. Wouldn't that be good.

Totally agree. I love watching the 80's stuff like GI Joe, Transformers, but also the 90's had some really good stuff like X-Men, Batman. Now that I think of it I need to get season 3 of the original X Men cartoon, I think they have up to 5 or 6.

Turns out you have to assemble them yourself by following the instructions from Netflix and it's a total pain in the ass and they don't work.

    Bummer.

Took me 3 weekends and a few weeknights, but I watched the entire series of The Wonder Years. I enjoyed it when it was first airing, but only caught a few episodes here and there. Same when it went into syndication. It was nice to watch it from beginning to end and watch these kids grow up all over again.

Been binge watching Star Trek: TNG. Another show I enjoyed whenever it was on, but never made it a weekly thing. Kinda shocked at the death of
. Guess all the syndicated episodes I watched were the ones she was on only. Now I don't remember if she was in any of the movies.

It was also weird that Dr. Beverly Crusher went away for a season and then came back. It was great having her back, cuz that other chick just sucked.

Could it be that this is just lip service to show that they are doing something?

For the life of me, I can't understand why Netflix would really care. I mean, we are breaching their terms of service but to their benefit. If they actually do restrict geoblocking, people will just go back to torrenting.

I hope it's that and nothing more. And I hope that whatever they do is just as easy for someone to get around because the Oz version is just terrible in comparison.

Seriously... who owns the rights to stuff like The X-Files in Australia? Is it some FTA channel that shows it at 2am as a lead in to infomercials?

One of their main guys did an interview last year with the Irish Independent in which he basically said that they don't care that people go around the regional geoblocking. They know that they make a fortune from people who pay for their service so that they can access the entire catalogue. That memo there reads to me that they've been getting pressure from the rights holders and need to do something.

I think she'd tell you she's a cunt and proud of it. I don't know if I could have delt with her for multiple seasons but at least she had some personality.

There was nothing worse than a goddamn solo Dr. Crusher episode. Good God those were terrible. Except maybe for that one where everybody kept disappearing leaving only her. But that "ghost of my grandmother's lover" episode? Fuck me that was bad. Her character was just so boring and bland and one dimensional. She wasnt even a cunt. She didn't have enough personality traits to merit being a cunt.

Season 3 Episode 11 had me confused for a moment because of James Cromwell, because I could have sworn he was Zefram Cochrane in First Contact.

It's kinda funny that his character in "The Hunted" is trying to get his planet into the Federation and then in "First Contact" he is the man responsible for WARP DRIVE.

I have seen all the movies when they came out, and it was pretty easy to follow along even though I didn't watch the series regularly but this was like, wait, I know who he is, why is he an alien?

After my search on "The Hunted" Cromwell did play 2 other characters. Another alien in ST:TNG Birthright which took place on DS9 and he played a character on an episode of DS9.

I'm glad Netflix has all the Star Trek shows on. Enterprise is the only show I watched completely while it was airing, and all the other series I just caught here and there when nothing else was on. I tried watching a couple episodes of the animated series, but, I'll try again after I complete all the other regular series.

bout to watch the episode. Just finished 13 and 14, fucking Q, and I was wondering if anyone was gonna question Rikers somewhat advances at some point. He's just not as cool as Shatner's Kirk when advancing on the ladies.

Riker had the all time greatest sit down/lean forward I've ever seen. It's a power sit that inspires the men and women who are within watching distance.

And also prevents the gut from pouring out over his lap like 50 lbs of lard. He really was the Kirk of the D.

Thank you Netflix, I feel like I'm discovering Star Trek for the first time again! I just hope I feel this way when I marathon DS9 and Voyager after I'm done with TNG. I know I'm gonna love Voyager, but not too sure about DS9 yet.

DS9 is by far the best one. It isn't even close.

I've been going through Voyager very slowly over the last maybe three years. With it being possible that I won't have access to US Netflix soon if here serious on clamping down on VPN's I'm trying to blitz through the last season now. It's really bad.

I finished Jessica Jones at the weekend. It was good. I'd say it was on par with DareDevil. 8/10.

Looking at Netflix's upcoming shows, there's almost too much stuff to watch. Not that I'm complaining. Love, The Get Down and Black Mirror are some of the new shows I'm really looking forward too.

I do think that they're playing lip-service to a degree, and the BBC have been trying to stop people accessing the iPlayer through VPNs for years. But Netflix know the customers who use it - I looked at my settings last week on the PS4 app as I was having issues connecting and after my username it said 'IE - CN' (i.e. Irish account, viewing in Canada).

If they keep records of their users then they'll see that apparently I've been accessing Netflix from Ireland, Canada, US, Sweden and Netherlands this last ten days or so. Were they to be serious about clamping down it wouldn't be hard for them to know where to start.

It doesn't really make sense for them to clamp down on it anyway. If I couldn't access other countries Netflix I would cancel it because theres not really anything left on the UK version that interests me enough to keep paying and the new stuff isn't regular enough to justify it.

I know a fair few people who would do the same, so by clamping down they would likely lose a lot more money. I think the best option for them is to make it look as though they want to clamp down to appease those who contract the shows but really do fuck all.

They obviously know that which is why Netflix tolerate it and arguably encourage it. But rights holders and indeed studios and production companies will have a major issue with it when it impacts their ability to maximise their revenues through advertising and selling the content.

They've been happily taking the cash for years and everyone knows it.

Even if they did find a way to block users VPNs, people would find another way around it. As long as Netflix is available in other countries and the Internet exists, Netflix will never fix this issue. Unless they can get studios to sell global rights to Netflix rather than individual countries.

I want to finish Jessica Jones so bad. Made the fucking mistake of making it a show to watch with my girl though and she won't let us watch the finale! It's always some excuse. But she's full of it. She has this weird thing about finishing shows or video games that she really likes.

But season two has been confirmed so she's going to have to relent.

I didn't think Jessica Jones was that great. Wasn't bad, but it felt like there was about 5 or 6 episodes worth of content stretched way too thin over 12, or whatever, episodes.

    Hola is bad.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/29283...et-attack.html

Sometimes a free service isn’t really free and you can end up paying for it in unexpected ways. If you’re running the Chrome extension Hola Better Internet or the Firefox add-on Hola Unblocker, well, that’s exactly what’s happening. What’s more, your payment might be unwitting participation in a botnet, according to one site moderator.

Hola is a very popular virtual private network (VPN) service that routes your traffic through different countries to mask your true location. That way you can defeat regional restrictions to watch the American version of Netflix from Argentina or BBC’s iPlayer from the U.S.

Typically, a VPN service routes your traffic through dedicated servers, but Hola uses the idle resources of its users’ PCs to route traffic. This essentially turns a Hola user’s computer into a VPN server, or a small part of one. If you’re in Nebraska, for example, and Hola is running on your PC, you might help users outside the U.S. watch Hulu.

Under this set-up Hola doesn’t have to pay bandwidth costs for its free users. Instead it passes off the cost to other freeloaders. Paying for bandwidth is probably the largest overhead a VPN company has to deal with. Other companies keep their costs down through advertising or limiting how much bandwidth a customer can use for free every month.

Why this matters: If ever there was an example of why it’s important to read the fine print when you use a free service, Hola is it. To be fair, the company has always disclosed that it puts your idle PC cycles to use. But most users probably notice the service’s promise to unblock certain sites for free and look no further. That’s a problem when a company is using an innovative way to solve a problem. Bottom line: before you jump in, make sure you understand how a service is able to support a free offering.

Unless you have a limited bandwidth cap, Hola’s approach seems fair enough. You use the bandwidth and IP addresses of others to watch BBC shows, your connection helps people watch NBC. Hola says it only routes traffic through your PC when your machine is completely idle. Your device has to be connected to electricity, have no mouse or keyboard activity, and the PC’s connection must be using Wi-Fi or wired Internet—no cellular.

Hola also offers a premium service for $5 a month that lets you use the service without being a node in its P2P network.

As long as your IP is being used to check out CBS.com and not child porn or some other illicit activity, why not harness the power of the crowd as an efficient alternative?

But Hola also sells its free users’ bandwidth in another service called Luminati. Unlike Hola, Luminati is a VPN network offering bandwidth to anyone who needs to move large amounts of traffic across the Internet. It’s that service which was used to create a botnet to attack a site called 8chan, according to the site’s moderator Frederick Brennan.

Hola founder Ofer Vilenski later confirmed to TorrentFreak that a hacker did indeed use Luminati to attack 8chan. It’s not clear if Hola previously disclosed the Luminati usage to its users, but Hola’s FAQ does explain the Luminati service now.

Vilenski told TorrentFreak that it screens Luminati users before giving them access to the VPN network, but the hacker attacking 8chan was able to slip through. The company says it has taken corrective measures to prevent baddies from using Luminati again.
