    Streaming Recommendation/Currently Watching Thread

Well, this might be a bad idea because I'm aware of how many non-Americans/Canadians are on this board but it seems like there might be enough people that use Netflix that it maybe warrants it's own thread.

Plus, I get tired of spamming the VIP thread talking about every new release.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the American/Canadian librarys that Netflix has so if I post something and you Canadians don't have it, sorry.

Maybe one of you could work on an Canadian list.

If you have any TV Shows/Movies to add to the list please go ahead. I welcome the help.

    http://blog.netflix.com/2011/09/expl...flections.html

So I just found out that Netflix is branching into two companies and the DVD by mail company is being renamed to Qwikster. At least they will finally have Video Games.

    Website: http://www.qwikster.com/

    Quote from Netflix blog:
Many members love our DVD service, as I do, because nearly every movie ever made is published on DVD, plus lots of TV series. We want to advertise the breadth of our incredible DVD offering so that as many people as possible know it still exists, and it is a great option for those who want the huge and comprehensive selection on DVD. DVD by mail may not last forever, but we want it to last as long as possible.

I also love our streaming service because it is integrated into my TV, and I can watch anytime I want. The benefits of our streaming service are really quite different from the benefits of DVD by mail. We feel we need to focus on rapid improvement as streaming technology and the market evolve, without having to maintain compatibility with our DVD by mail service.

So we realized that streaming and DVD by mail are becoming two quite different businesses, with very different cost structures, different benefits that need to be marketed differently, and we need to let each grow and operate independently. It’s hard for me to write this after over 10 years of mailing DVDs with pride, but we think it is necessary and best: In a few weeks, we will rename our DVD by mail service to “Qwikster”.

We chose the name Qwikster because it refers to quick delivery. We will keep the name “Netflix” for streaming.

Qwikster will be the same website and DVD service that everyone is used to. It is just a new name, and DVD members will go to qwikster.com to access their DVD queues and choose movies. One improvement we will make at launch is to add a video games upgrade option, similar to our upgrade option for Blu-ray, for those who want to rent Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Members have been asking for video games for many years, and now that DVD by mail has its own team, we are finally getting it done. Other improvements will follow. Another advantage of separate websites is simplicity for our members. Each website will be focused on just one thing (DVDs or streaming) and will be even easier to use. A negative of the renaming and separation is that the Qwikster.com and Netflix.com websites will not be integrated. So if you subscribe to both services, and if you need to change your credit card or email address, you would need to do it in two places. Similarly, if you rate or review a movie on Qwikster, it doesn’t show up on Netflix, and vice-versa.

There are no pricing changes (we’re done with that!). Members who subscribe to both services will have two entries on their credit card statements, one for Qwikster and one for Netflix. The total will be the same as the current charges.

We will let you know in a few weeks when the Qwikster.com website is up and ready. It is merely a renamed version of the Netflix DVD website, but with the addition of video games. You won’t have to do anything special if you subscribe to our DVD by mail service.

For me the Netflix red envelope has always been a source of joy. The new envelope is still that distinctive red, but now it will have a Qwikster logo. I know that logo will grow on me over time, but still, it is hard. I imagine it will be the same for many of you. We’ll also return to marketing our DVD by mail service, with its amazing selection, now with the Qwikster brand.

Some members will likely feel that we shouldn’t split the businesses, and that we shouldn’t rename our DVD by mail service. Our view is with this split of the businesses, we will be better at streaming, and we will be better at DVD by mail. It is possible we are moving too fast – it is hard to say. But going forward, Qwikster will continue to run the best DVD by mail service ever, throughout the United States. Netflix will offer the best streaming service for TV shows and movies, hopefully on a global basis. The additional streaming content we have coming in the next few months is substantial, and we are always working to improve our service further.

I want to acknowledge and thank our many members that stuck with us, and to apologize again to those members, both current and former, who felt we treated them thoughtlessly.

Both the Qwikster and Netflix teams will work hard to regain your trust. We know it will not be overnight. Actions speak louder than words. But words help people to understand actions.

    Yep.

Its actually terrific news, since the DVD business is going to plummet for various reasons and now they'll devote more resources to the streaming, which is all i'd ever use anyway.

I think this is actually a great idea. I really only use the Netflix streaming service, and it was always frustrating to be looking for a certain show, movie, or wrestling event,a nd finding out they had it, but only as a DVD rental.

Since it seems the companies are still affiliated ownership-wise, part of me thinks that actually won't be occurring, as to keep business stronger for the DVD by Mail service, but eventually that will probably fade out and the focus will begin shifting even more to the stream service.

I just cancelled my Netflix. I'm thinking of trying out Amazon Prime, since they have streaming as well. It's cheaper in the long run than Netflix.

I just finally got settled in and added a but load to my instant queue last night.

I am a bit excited about 24 being on there. I have the first 4 seasons on DVD but haven't watched any yet.

I have about 30 minutes left of Gone With the Wind. I'd never seen it before. The power is back on and now I shall resume the film.

Weeds died a hero at the end of season 3. It was beautiful and perfect. They've been Weekend at Bernie's-ing it ever since.

And really, anyone who has not seen Breaking Bad should at least give it a shot. Watch the first 3 episodes and if you're not hooked, I don't know what to say.

Everyone should watch The Universe. Marvelous show.

I also tend to watch a lot of documentaries on Netflix and have even been known to search "nova" and their shows. One of the best bits of Netflix is that it learns what you like and tries to make suggestions based on that. I've ended up with a lot of cool docs that way and other random things I never knew existed.

And Weeds did die at the end of season three. That little show, the show I loved, never came back at all.

Atty, there's an excellent documentary about the domesticated dog and the eugenics and selective breeding behind developing breeds. It's really interesting, especially if you're a dog person. I love the huge selection of old PBS and National Geographic shows.

I don't know what I'd do without Instant. My most recent views are Psych, Firefly, Lethal Weapon 2, and Hobo with a Shotgun. HWAS is fucking incredible.

me and a my roommate watched weeds like crazy when we got a wii for netflix, and funny enough we just stopped watching it after the end of season 3 and never had the inclination to watch it further. really did love those 3 seasons though, guess there's not much reason to watch further.

im unduly excited about advent of frasier. one of my favorite shows to mindlessly watch multiple episodes of in a row.

I feel like I'm the only person ever who really didn't like anything Weeds had to offer. Well, besides Mary Louise Parker being insanely hot. Kevin Nealon was good, I guess.

I decided to give Raising Hope a try last night having heard good things about it and I ended up watching 3 episodes.

It's a good show, I like it, it reminds me of My Name Is Earl probably because it's about a poor family but also because it has the same creator.

A few unexpected things that I didn't mention before were added today:

    Recently Added
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Season 12)
    My Boys (Seasons 1-4)
    Parks and Recreation (Season 3)
    The Wonder Years (Seasons 1-6)
    'Til Death (Seasons 1-4)
    Warehouse 13 (Seasons 1-2)

    also
    Tron: Legacy

Frasier (Seasons 1-11) was added but at least 2 episodes from every season are listed as Disc Only and this really disappoints me.

Good, I can finally finish the first season of Wolverine and the X-Men. It's too bad it got canceled, I liked it.

With Lie To Me Season 3 now added everyone should go watch it. It's a shame that it didn't get a Season 4.

Does Lie to Me pick up a bit in the first season? I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes and had a really hard time getting into it. If it gets better, though, I'd be willing to stick with it.

Kevin Smith's first try at a horror movie, Red State, was just added to Watch Instantly.

Three high school boys answer an online ad from a woman seeking wild sex and find themselves face-to-face with a supernatural force that threatens to destroy them. Will their unholy desires lead them to ruin? The cast includes Michael Parks, Michael Angarano, John Goodman, Kevin Pollak and Melissa Leo.

    Newsradio.

I had watched it a good bit before but watching it now it really clicks with me. Relating to it more now, Phil Hartman's an absolute genius and it has a young Joe Rogan on the cast. It also strikes me how much less annoying Andy Dick was at this point.

    I've just starting watching this.

This Beth chick reminds me of Meredith from The Office except Beth is more likable. Joe Rogan is great. Maura Tierney was very hot back then too. Also, I agree completely about Andy Dick.

That's a somewhat misleading description, supernatural force makes it sound like they're facing a demon or something like that, which they aren't.

It really is great. Dave Foley and the guy that plays the boss of the station were excellent together and had really good comic chemistry.

    Me too.

Didn't Jon Lovitz replace him on Newsradio? He honestly wasn't bad, but that show never recovered from Hartman's death.

Lovitz played a mental patient who thought he was Uylsses S. Grant in an episode while Hartman was there. After he died, he tried to fill his best friend's spot.

Stephen Root (the boss) is massively underrated. Always amazing. Shame they took his stapler.

Great little show that I knew nothing of before it popped up as a recommendation and my totally gay crush on Adam Scott encouraged me to give it a go.

    White Collar Season 1 - 15-Nov-2011

Jersey Shore Seasons 2-3 15-Nov-2011 if you care about that dumb show.

Movies Coming Soon to Streaming on American Netflix
    Aeon Flux - 01-Nov-2011
    Backdraft - 01-Nov-2011
    Final Destination 2 - 25-Nov-2011
    Jet Li's Fearless - 16-Nov-2011
    Limitless - 16-Nov-2011
    Scarface - 18-Nov-2011
    Seed of Chucky -10-Nov-2011
    The Game - 20-Nov-2011
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers -18-Nov-2011

I've never seen White Collar so I'll probably watch that when it's added.

Also, for anyone who's heard bad things about How I Met Your Mother's last couple of seasons, don't let that scare you away from watching it. The first 4 or so seasons were great.

I enjoy White Collar. First episode sets up the show really well, too, especially the opening 3 minutes. The quality dips here and there throughout the series, but overall it is good and definitely worth giving a try.

It's more pretentious than it should be, but it's different from a lot of Burton films, does not star Depp, and has great acting performances all around...Beetlejuice is good too...

I don't see Depp getting backlash for his bad films, except for here, where Damon does not get the overall critical acclaim that Bale and Depp get.

Meanwhile, Ledger was never rated that high on anyones best actor list until he played the Joker, and he was absolutely robbed of an Oscar for Brokeback Mountain.

From Hell was really great. Heather Graham is bad in it though...

The 9th Gate sucked, and the Libertine was about the worst POS I've ever seen in theaters.

Alice was bad on all accounts, but it has a lot of people who liked it a lot.

critically poor reception for all those films.
and each of them bar from hell, (only like this because of the book and a small obsesive issue with jack the ripper) are shite.

Also for coming soon I use

Instantwatcher is usually better for the recently added and Feedfliks is usually better for coming soon.

The live action Tick has been on Instant for ages. Still, what a great show. Too bad there's only like 9 episodes.

The first couple of seasons of Burn Notice are awesome, but it goes downhill awfully fast in the later seasons.

Looking forward to catching up on White Collar. That's a solid show.

White Collar season 2 was amazing. I watched it live last year but forgot details. I just rewatched the first episode of season 2 and re-realized why I love that show so much.

The Bluth family’s new comedy adventures will be available exclusively through the video service starting in the first half of 2013. Why, that’s like getting unlimited juice.
“After a long hiatus, I’m dying to finally get back to the narrator’s microphone,” said executive producer and series narrator Ron Howard. “Of all the projects we’ve been involved with over the years, we probably get more questions about Mitch Hurtwitz’s brilliant Arrested Development than any other — everyone, ourselves included, seems to feel like the Bluths left the party a bit too soon. Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, Arrested always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again.”

Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine Television will produce the new episodes of the show. How many episodes? That’s not been announced yet.
Will all the cast members return? That’s not been announced either — no contracts have been finalized, we’re told. But certainly previous statements by the producers and cast indicate that everybody is, in theory, on board.
Will there still be the long-rumored movie? Also unclear. But if you’re getting the show back, and on service like Netflix that won’t presumably have any content restrictions anyway (unlike during the show’s original three-season run on Fox) — do we even need a movie?

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night was added today.

It bombed at the box office making 1.1 million when it cost 20.

    Kurt Angle is in it.

Peep Show Series 1-7 and the lone season of Terriers are now available on Instant. HIGHLY recommend both of these shows. Amazing stuff.

You should get on the American Netflix, it's on there. Take it you know they're showing the third series at the moment on Discovery or whatever the fuck channel it's on. Thursdays at 10. I would love to rattle Brandi.

I've got the US one klebzzz but it's only the first 19 eps. Can't be doing watching shit on actual tv either, adverts are for losers. Brandi is just Pam from the US Office, cuddly face and clearly filth.

I need more Barry and his terrible auction skillz

The movie Super 8 and the tv show Wilfred (Season 1) were both just added.

You should go watch them, especially Wilfred.

Super 8 is on there now? I'm going to have to add that.

And Wilfred is great, but don't need to watch it on Netflix. I watched it when it first came on and is currently watching Season 2.

For an older show, and still one of my favorites, Sports Night is a great 30 minute sitcom written by Aaron Sorkin, pre-West Wing. To me, outside of West Wing, it's still the best thing he's ever done.

Fuck yeah, Super 8. I really wanted to see that.

Recently added (that I haven't seen mentioned) are a ton of the ESPN hour long documentaries. They are extremely well done. I watched the one about Chuck Wepner (the guy Stalllone based Rocky on) and it was fascinating.
