I liked Ozark. Wasn't amazing but solid, watchable TV. Strong performances from the leads. Jason Bateman is talented. We knew he was funny, but between this and "The Gift" it turns out he does serious well too.

I watched the first episode of Mind Hunter and it was okay. I'll probably try a few more episodes at some point.

Mindhunter definitely improves. I liked it a lot. Lots of quality originals coming from Netflix

Midway through Season 3 of Bojack Horseman. That episode with Bojack and the baby seahorse was very touching, kinda wanted Bojack to adopt him.

Anyone made the jump to 4K yet? How does Netflix/Amazon in Ultra HD look? My new TV is getting delivered on Friday and I can't wait to watch Godless in 4K.

Been enjoying Punisher. Usually watch stuff with the other half but had some free time to myself this weekend and blasted through 7 eps of it. Not what I expected, a lot grittier and reality based than the Marvel stuff I've seen.

Are Nick Gage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist worth a watch afterwards?

There's been way too much of that Marvel stuff and I sort of feel like I've missed the boat at this point.

How does it work? Do I need to watch some of the films before jumping into the Netflix stuff? And do I need to watch the Netflix stuff in a particular order? Seems like its all part of one big connected universe and having not seen any of it, I'm not really sure where to jump in.

No need to worry about movies.

The Netflix stuff does an order which I am pretty sure you can get from wiki. If I knew it off hand I would tell you.

I think it is as follows

    Daredevil 1
    Jessica. Jones 1
    Dardevil 2
    Luke cage
    Iron fist
    The defenders
    The punisher

I'm watching Godless just now. It's pretty decent. It's no Deadwood, but I recently got a 4K tv and the Ultra HD looks amazing on it.

Godless has to be one of my top shows in the past few years. I loved Deadwood and would rate this on its level (still angry they cancelled after season 3). Maybe I'm just a Jack O'Connell mark.

Jeff Daniels is so incredibly sinister in this he can really play anything.

I'm currently watching The Crown and Alex Jennings as Edward VIII has me all emotionally discombobulated. Am I supposed to hate the man or pity him.

Looking forward to The Crown Season Two out today. I'm no fan of the Queen of the Royal family, but this show is so well made it deserves to be watched.

Banging through Arrow Season 1 right now. I'm contemplating watching that AND Black Mirror. Started watching the 1st episode and it was pretty solid. I also like that there aren't many episodes to begin with so I could probably watch a lot of them before the 4th season drops this month.

I watched the first episode of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Wasn't bad by any means and it is very entertaining visually. Of course I can never get enough NPH so that helps.

I have two episodes left of This Is Us from season one. We began Chewing Gum, quirky, but I am not sure I want to keep watching. I am interested in Dark and second season of The Glitch and MindHunter.

Mindhunter and dark are on my list for viewing.

Watch gotg 2 on Netflix last night. Still easily the best superhero franchise of this current run.

I watched Dark. I thought it was very good. You have to pay extremely close attention though. Don't watch it while playing around on the phone or whatever.

I really enjoyed This is Us season 1. Richly crafted and great performances from all leads. I don't usually get emotional with t.v. but this show really gets me.

The Ozark is also really good. Jason Bateman. Enough said.

Mindhunter didn't grip me after about 4 or 5 episodes. Am I wrong to have given it up? I normally love this genre but it didn't grip me.

Anyone here watched the TV show of The Exorcist?
Didn't even know it was a thing until about a week ago. Watched the first 5 episodes and thought it's been good so far. The show is 2 seasons in at the moment, with 10 episodes each. Will be binge watching the rest over the Christmas break.

I started the first episode but fell asleep and haven't attempted since. I think I had found it on Hulu. Surprised I haven't watched it all to be honest, considering the Exorcist is in my top ten favorite films list.

Well I enjoyed it a lot but if you didn't like the first 4 or 5 episodes it's probably fine to give up. It's not like it gets a whole lot better in the second half of the season, it stays pretty consistent and there isn't some massive payoff.

But yes Mik, I generally seem to be a contrarian. Don't really care for Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, popular things etc. I guess I would say I enjoy them viewing, but no desire to rewatch or have a boner waiting for the next one to be made.

If that makes me a bad person, I'm sorry. Taste is subjective. If I think Freddy Got Fingered is one of the funniest films ever made, I shouldn't be hated on for that view.

I might switch to Hulu, at least for a while, mainly for The Shield which I've been wanting to re-watch. And I don't think there are any soon-to-be-released seasons of Netflix originals that I want to watch.

I worry about Netflix making the push on original content instead of keeping up with classic series. They've lost Scrubs, Always Sunny, 30 Rock, etc. If they lose The Office and Parks and Rec... if they really go hard towards the original content model, I'll still probably subscribe but maybe only when a new season of something drops. I want those favorite shows to stay.

It's not their choice. It's Fox taking their shows to Hulu which they are co-owners of.

I started watching earlier, I’m sensing some very subtle metaphors about racism so far.

Loved Bright. I'm not generally a fan of action movies but the meshing of the fantasy and reality was pretty cool. I like the way the fantasy aspect does give them a way to toy with the racism stuff.

Built a cool world with a deep history we know very little about. Excited to see a sequel should be on the way

Got a ton of enjoyment of the famous podcaster cameo in the beginning as I'm a pretty big fan.

I love my boyfriend to bits, but when he’s a bit down he has this need to try and come across as intelligent as often as he can. This manifests itself regularly during watching films, as it infuriates him how I can generally read where the story is going and how with only my age to guide me while he has a first in visual media.

This leads to situations like last night, when after about 30 minutes of the film, he loudly, proudly, like he’s revealing some sort of well kept secret, lets me know the film may on the surface be fantastical, but it’s actually a conduit to make points about the real world’s racism problems.

Not joke, no irony, straight faced.

Do you know how hard it is not to absolutely rip the shit of of someone after witnessing something like that? I think I deserve a medal for my restraint.

That’s better than my Gran’s reaction to District 9 at least, where she was all for the flame throwering of the Aliens.

You know people who are incredibly intelligent in academia and perhaps not so much elsewhere? That's him. Ask him to conduct research into the prevalence of drug use in young gay men who use Grindr and he'll produce something incredible. Ask him to name 5 football teams and he'll stare blankly into space.

    And yes, hot like fire.

Does Mad Men pick up at all? I've watched a few episodes, and while well written, there's not much excitement in the stories. I fear I'll get bored quickly if it doesn't change.

I liked it to. Would have liked to seen this as a series rather than movies so they could flesh out characters and mythology a bit more.

Didn't even know it was a thing until about a week ago. Watched the first 5 episodes and thought it's been good so far. The show is 2 seasons in at the moment, with 10 episodes each. Will be binge watching the rest over the Christmas break.
Got done watching both seasons, and really liked it. Not sure how to rate it out of 10 since I dont watch many TV shows (more of a movie guy), so I dont know what the standard is. The only two shows (besides sitcoms) I've ever watched are Breaking Bad and Stranger Things. Its not as good as Stranger Things, but still decent in its own right (make of that what you want).

As for the show itself and comparisons to the original (spoiler talk):

Man, there's so much stuff that I know I should have watched but haven't. I've always been more of a "movie guy" but I've started to work on changing that. The only thing is that rather than watching the popular ones (something like Game of Thrones), I've gone for ones that I thought would interest me personally. I did Stranger Things first not too long ago. I just did The Exorcist. I'm now doing Dark, which I'll have finished by the end of tomorrow. I don't really have a list of what I need to get through (like I do with movies) but I might start working on that soon.

The Exorcist TV show is amazingly good. It gets wonderful reviews so it's not as if the critics don't know it but that hasn't helped it's viewership. People have a very preconceived idea about what the show is and it just seems impossible trying to get anyone to try it out.

I'm curious to see how far they can take a show about exorcisms before it gets old. That's why I think its make or break when the next season hits. I really enjoyed the show and would love to see them keep my interest. I guess I'm just being too pessimistic.

Yeah, this new season was alright but didn't blow my mind nearly as much as the previous ones. 'Hang the DJ' and the 'USS Callister' were probably the best episodes.

    Love me some Bosch.

Titus Welliver is outstanding, I'm hoping Jamie Hector gets more of a chance to show his chops in season 4...

The twelfth and final season of "Trailer Park Boys" drops March 30th.

Apparently they succeeded in filming the entire season before John "Jim Lahey" Dunsworth passed away; as somebody who's been a huge fan of the series since day one, this will be a very tough season emotionally.

Never watched the original, just looked far too dated and fluffy. This though looks rather promising.

There’s a real Mass Effect vibe with the robot. Interesting that it’s not part of the crew. Was it built by Dr Smith or is it a life form unto itself? I expected this to feature them zipping around, but it appears to be set on the same planet over the course of the series. The visuals looks nice and it looks to be worth checking out.

I like the new series of Reboot...but only because I'm a fan of Power Rangers.

Don't bother with episode ten...tries to be lipservice to fans and just winds up irritating 'em

I saw it in the theater and I thought it was fun. Though the group of friends I was with fucking hated it.

Maybe I just like anything with Gary Oldman.

Could be UK only, but watched the first two ep's of James Acaster's stand up collection over the last couple of days.

Very smart and silly at the same time and of course, very funny.

If Stewart Lee was Superstar Billy Graham, then James is Hogan. Not in terms of energy mind.

Just finished first episode of Lost In Space. It was dam good. No long drawn out back story just jumps right into the action with brief snipets of what led them where they are. Any show/movie that can keep my 11 and 9 year olds attention for a hour or 2 has to have some merrit.

I've enjoyed the first 2 seasons of a series of unfortunate events. Of course I'm a sucker for anything nph nit the entire cast has been good. Definitely love the look and feel of it as well. I have never read the books but overall it is entertaining TV.

What fun. This wouldve been my favorite movie in 1992 when I was 12.
Yeah, watched it a while back. Nothing special but buckets of fun.

I finished this today. Great production values and an interesting thread with the robot. Lovely score too. But overall, I found it to be disappointing. The character and plot beats were very predictable and felt like things we had seen a million times before. Toby Stephens is every cliché of a gruff military man and doesn't have much resembling a character until the final few episodes.

The kids aren't anything special. People inevitably do things in secret and then spend the next episode deliberating on whether they should reveal the secret. The constant and brand new peril in each episode got a bit tiresome and while the science may be sound in some cases, I didn't feel like the characters made smart decisions. They also came across as very naďve and gullible when being taken advantage of. There's potential in the concept of the show, but it didn't have enough depth for me. Overall, it's watchable but very safe and somewhat bland.

Binged The Santa Clarita Diet. So funny! I love it.

Netflixing Gotham for the past week. Done Season 1 and almost halfway through Season 2 where it has gone up exponentially in my view from brutal mob gang warfare to a whole new level with the villainy. Penguin and the future Riddler have just met.

Bizarre. I don't want to give anything away. It's kind of repetitive, but at only 4 episodes of 45 minutes, it's a manageable documentary series.

Azrael's death by bazooka in Gotham, one of the funniest things I've ever seen! The music too!

Saw "Bright" a couple days ago, it was pretty good. Will Smith dropping f-bombs, orcs/elves/humans all mixed together in a cop movie...

I'd watch the sequel, for sure.

Watched a coupe of Kev Hart stand ups over the weekend having never seen any of his shows before and have to say I love it, Selling out that football stadium is insane even if he is a bonafide movie star these days.
