Yeah, saw it last year. I loved it. It's a bit muddled in the middle, but otherwise it's so stylish and fun I couldn't care less.

Aw I watched this too, but really enjoyed it. It's getting shocking reviews though - one called it "a tragedy". Some parts were fairly corny, but there's something about the improv aspect that draws my focus to the dialogue and performance, it captivates me and makes it funnier somehow. Thinking about watching it again already. I might have terrible taste in films.

Charlie is also great, but I just crack up at Dennis's seduction techniques and the fact he is so depraved. He's like Partridge with the narcissm turned up.

Well yeah obviously Dennis is more psyvhotic and extreme, but they share similar personality traits like their ego and narcissism. Although Mac shares the same tranny curiosity as Partridge.

Your first post was a disagreement which is why it wasn't deleted and kept in. Then you went into your act again.

Can you process any of your own thoughts?

there was no act, you have an obsession with partridge and comparing and quoting it. You are also a big baby.

It's no secret I really like Partridgr, but this isn't a situation where I jump in and post "cashback or "Jurassic park" for no reason, I was making a small comparison in behaviour plus I haven't quoted Partridge in months so yeah you're still off base.

Aww come on Badger, you're doing it again buddy. It's almost like MikeHunt's(and others)opinons of you are so important that they effortlessly unbalance your constitution and you find it necessary to respond in order to secure an inner victory of some value.

It seems like the improv trend is causing people making stuff (shows, youtube videos, whatever) to think that improv in an of itself is funny and that as long as we're doing improv, it'll be funny by default, regardless of the content. So you get all these things where it's just people having an awkward meandering conversation with no punchline. It kind of reminds me of how the handheld footage style movie became a thing and then got overdone because 'my movie will automatically be cool if I shoot it haldheld style!'. Mascots definitely had some parts that felt like they suffered from the trend.

Black Mirror, get them watched if you get the chance. Loved the original series and now they've moved to Netflix and upped the budget.

Great watch. Only 6 episodes, you can pick up at any episode!

    It's on my watchlist.

Has anyone been watching 'The Crown'? I'm not the biggest fan of the Royal Family, but I have to say this show is great. I only finished episode 3 last night, but it's been some of the best TV I've watched this year. Seriously the fact it's based on the Queen really put me off this, but I am enjoying this so far.

Some great stuff added to UK Netflix in the past couple of weeks.

    My film highlights would be:

    Green Room
    Eddie the Eagle
    Sing Street
    Whiplash
    Foxcatcher
    Let the Right One In

    Still to see:
    Son of Saul
    The Guv'nor
    The Gamble
And Mark Kermode's favourite film of last year, Under the Shadow will be up on Saturday.

As for TV I have enjoyed Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and the Sense8 Christmas Special.

Good to see Let The Right One In back. The western version keeps showing up and I don't want it in my life. Will add Green Room to the list.

Can anyone recommend any of the million or so Korean films they've been adding? Most of them seem to be romance/teen films, but there are hundreds of them so surely there's one or more decent films which led to the others maybe? So many.

I'm about 3/4 through watching Star Trek: The Next Generation in it's entirety. No idea why I dismissed this growing up, it's fucking ace.

    Anyone watched DESIGNATED SURVIVOR?

Kiefer Sutherland becomes president when everyone else in the senate is killed by a bomb. He's some lowly environmental senator or something. He's trying to piece together the government and uncover the conspiracy surrounding what happened.

Its fucking shit, so shit, so laden with cliches and bad acting - but just total trashy fun. It's like 24 without any self-awareness.

It has those really 90's action film bits of dialogue - for example

    President; "Where is the suspect"

    Woman: "We've lost him"

P: "What do you mean you've lost him"

    W: "He's on foreign soil"

P: "But how, we took his passport, how could he get out the country"

W: "He didn't, hes right down the street"

P: "What are you trying to say?"

W: "Hes in the ecuadorian embassy"

Instead of "alright btw you know that guy hes in the ecuadorian embassy just down the road"

After waiting for feels like an eternity for my partner to want to watch the Marvel offerings I finally gave up before Christmas and started to go through them in order.

    Fuck me they're good.

What I'm really appreciating is the quality of the antagonists. On the big screen only Loki has been a truly effective villain, but every main one in the Netflix series' has been outstanding.

I'd heard not too great things about Luke Cage, but I'm finding it to be a very enjoyable change of pace.

Finished House of Cards this week. I'd say the first 8-9 episodes are just as good as the rest of the show. But Jesus does the last few episodes drop off in quality. Really didn't like the ending to Season 5.

On to watching Glow now with the Mrs., It's pretty good and because the episodes are only 30 minutes each its quite easy to binge.

I didn't like the first couple of episodes of House of Cards, then really got into it before it tailed away at the end. It all being
just wasn't something I was buying.

Glow aside, are there any other recent Netflix shows worth watching? They seem to put out so much content now that I'm sure a lot has passed me by.

That would be nice if that happens, though does Disney have the rights to distribute the older films or does that still belong to Fox?

Thats the one. Yea agreed, i think it took a while to get going and then petered out but there were a couple of episodes (3 and 4 maybe?) which were genuinely gripping and chilling.

Took a couple of weekends, I binged on the 3 seasons of The Ranch. Totally not what I expected. Was pleasantly suprised on how much I liked it. Why are what's his names fingers always disgusting though. I noticed it in the first episode and it and watched for it evrrytime.

Started Glow last night, finished it tonight. Loved it. There doesn't seem to be any info on whether or not there's going to be a second season. Was it one and done?

Definitely a big thumbs up for Glow (no thread? Weird), the third episode is the most I've laughed in ages.

I thought I'd never get into any of the many superhero tv series that are on right now. Decided to give Supergirl a shot. Enjoyed it. Even though I had to switch to the other DC shows to watch all the crossover episodes, I'm done with the superhero shows till something else catches my eye, I just can't get into the other DC shows,

Started watching the US version of Shameless. Halfway through season 1. Fucking love this show!

if you want to be depressed watch Newtown. Documentary about Sandy Hook school massacre with emphasis on impact to victim families/friends etc. Really good, but hard to watch.

Justin Timberlake & The Tennessee Kids - Last concert of his 2yr tour, in Vegas. Little behind the scenes stuff, but mostly concert. Really good, if you're a JT fan like me.

Burning Sands - Netflix original about frat hazing, also pretty solid.

My gf just finished the first season. I watched a couple of the first season when it originally aired on Showtime simply because I think Emmy Rossum is one of the most beautiful women I've seen. The show is good. Titties are much better. If you're into that sort of thing.

Not watched it yet but there is a documentary called Long Shot that sounds mad - a guy accused of murder who realises the path to proving his innocence might be hidden in the background of TV show.

Just so you know I think the documentary works better if you don't know the story and what show it was that saved him.

Ah ok, I've edited now (could you edit your quote of me so it doesn't mention it? Although it does become fairly obvious when you watch the trailer

It's quite a well known story anyway - it made the news on both sides of the ocean at the time. I'll definitely give it a watch.

I knew the story beforehand too, but my dad and my brother both didn't know it, and they watched the documentary before me.

'Big Mouth' is fucking terrific. Crude and hilarious with a lot of heart. Highly recommend.

Also just burned through 'American Vandal' over the past couple days and I see its' got a thread so I'll just go there.

Oh, and we plowed through 'Planet Earth II' recently, as well, which was terrific. I think my favorite part was that dude who fed the hyenas.

Two episodes into Mindhunter and I'm really enjoying it.

EDIT: Helps if I get the name of the show correct.

Finished Season 11 of Trailer Park Boys. It kinda dipped in form after Season 7 but this was more of a return to form. Also watched the Out of the Park Europe special which had a few good scenes like Ricky not knowing what an ice bar is, but it's not as fun as them being in the park.

Halfway through American Vandal now, really enjoying it. Cracked up at the "Case Against Peter"

    Don't hang up

Walks a fine line of being too much of a copycat of other films, but does just enough to steer clear of any obvious comparison to one film. While slightly predictable, the ending managed to please me as well. One of the better horror/thrillers I have seen in a number of years.

I tried it but, as with Archer, I couldn't get through more than half an episode of tired tropes and lazy sex/toilet humour.

I started watching Atypical recently - Netflix produced comedy drama about an 18 year old guy with autism traversing the changing dynamics of his family, support network and, ultimately, wanting to see boobs. Pretty good if a little derivative and, as far as I'm concerned, reductive in terms of the overall depiction of someone on the spectrum.

For the most part though Keir Gilchrist provides a very constant, measured and sensitive performance of someone on the autism/aspergers spectrum without going over the top into character acting. The girl who plays his sister has probably the toughest job of the cast and, really, the coming of age story focussed on Gilchrist's Sam becomes more of a focus on Bridget Lundy-Paine's Casey's challenges pertaining to being the 'other' child in a two kid family where, rather than being afflicted by any neuro-atypical condition herself, her life revolves around her brother, her obligations to supporting him, how that stands in the way of her own development (social, emotional...)...Jennifer Jason Leigh is great as always although the sympathy attempted to be evoked in her particular arc as a mother on the verge of losing all f the dependencies upon her could be more senitively and less stereotypically handled, imo.

Michael Rapaport is such a great actor. He's fairly typecast as an emotionally conflicted, stuttering foil to his fellow cast in a great many tv and movie vehicles, and broadly speaking the same might be said here. But for me he always manages to break with that trope and instil in the narrative and respective performance a really relate-able, everyman, touching set of nuances, affectations and characteristics. I think he's a very underrated performer and steadies the ship here from sinking into another run of the mill formulaic family drama at risk of fading into a background of so many other shows of its kind. There's a solid supporting cast with Graham Rogers measuring his performance of new boyfriend to Casey (and at times moral compass to the entire family, interestingly and in a well executed manner), Evan.

Nik Dodani provides some nice comic relief without chewing the scenery, Amy Okuda grounds the entire story and feel of the show very well by giving a very balanced, almost reality-show-like performance that prevents episodes from falling too far into a mire of either the comedy or the drama of this comedy drama.

There's also a great standout performance from an actress named Jenna Boyd who somehow makes spectral neuroses and general impacts seem so much more relate-able as a character who, while not being autistic herself, exhibits so much of the anxiety and depression and needs and desires that we all have but are often unable to properly articulate that it pulls you into the story as you identify with those character traits in her and, for me anyway, gain an appreciation of just how alike our difficulties in dealing with society/people are to people with autism.

Self-centred somewhat but Bojack seems a good guy deep down. I look forward to seeing him progress.

it's pretty good. It's not amazing and not always realised as sensitively or accurately as it perhaps could be, but as it is I think it's nice to have the spectrum exposed a little in this type of medium and I enjoy a lot of the performances. And Bridget Lundy-Paine is so dreamy

the best cartoon on Netflix and only one I've found that's worth watching and re-watching over and over again is Rick and Morty. I want a 4th series more than I want success health and happiness for my daughter in life.

Corrie is great just now when it actually does hit form - the minor characters are the best. Mary and Dev's relationship is actually very touching and Mary's current storyline is superb, she's a fantastic actress that woman. And Eva is just an angel from heaven.

I believe I read that Always Sunny is leaving Netflix (in America at least, not sure about U.K.). Fuck. First 30 Rock now this.

They better keep The Office and Parks & Rec on there.

    Fuck that's horrible news.

    Hopefully Kodi is not affected.

you need to get off Kodi fairly soon before they throw you in the jail Bodge. Would be an awful twist of fate to end up in Shotts for watching a Chinese bootleg of Cowboys vs. Aliens online after getting away with driving Seanny insane in real life to the point of throwing his laptop at an old lady in the Tesco car park (aiding and abetting)

You make a fair point though, I've got Sky Sports and BT sports back legally. The Exodus add-on was convenient though.

Exodus in particular was cracked down on fairly aggressively. I know the filth aren't really after a wee hairy guy on a couch getting South American Womens U21s football matches for free particulary so much as they are the distributors and DNS server hosts, but I've heard a few mental stories of fairly innocent folk getting their arses felt all the same

I got into the habit when I was off sick for ages and just stuck with it.

The ladies are superb in it.

Dev, Steve and Tim are some of the best worst actors ive ever seen.

I was considering atypical but fanny wrote too much. That means I’d need to pay attention.

What is a good comfort watch on Netflix? Something where I need neither brain nor soul?

I actually subscribed to Hulu for the sole purpose of showing 30 Rock to my lady. I've caught every other episode of Sunny for years but I'm trying to watch them in order.

So fucking of course Netflix is bailing.

Seems to happen with most shows I start watching. Find in the middle of the series that Netflix dropped them. Married with Children, Magnum PI, the X-Files, etc.

surely there's at least 7 episodes of Magnum PI on several channels of US television every afternoon?

Not the same as a Netflix binge watch but I noticed Logo shows MwC at night quite often. It's not all the time and most weeks it's not on the same nights as the one before.

I got Hulu as well, got an email for $5.99/mo for first year so I'll just watch a shitload of stuff.

I don't know if anyone has peeped Gerald's Game but it's fucking gooood. The ending sequence was as nightmarish and stomach turning as it was in the book. Great performance from Carla Gugino as well. Just dynamite.

A little weird seeing Henry "Elliot from E.T." Thomas being a cho mo though.

Sadly I don't have cable. Just Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
