The wife and I actually stopped it midway and I pitched what I thought might be the "twist"

I can't stand the episodes with Quark's mother and the Nagus. Quark on his own was great comic relief. Rom had his moments, but could be painfully annoying at other times.

I really enjoyed the early Mirror episodes with Sisko, but the later installments felt unnecessary once the Dominion War took off. I'm surprised Voyager didn't do its own take on the Mirror Universe, with some wacky version of the Borg.

Just saw the trailer for this. Premiers on the 15th. Looks good. Like Orphan Black meets Steven Spielberg.

Hope you don't mind the tags but I think it's best we keep that under wraps for others benefit. We just got done watching this. Soooo good. Slow builds like a mofo, really good tension and intrigue, some thought provoking stuff going on (the wife and I had to pause a few times just to discuss what was happening), felt like I could really relate to the main dude, too, and then...well, the stuff under the tag. Fantastic thriller. Highly recommend it. 10/10

I go to the cinema quite a bit so most of the films I've watched already and the same goes for TV shows which is really the only reason I've kept it going. Maybe I need to go a bit deeper to find smaller, Indy types of films though. I love their own TV series, can't fault them on those.

I'm constantly in the cinema and don't ever have a problem finding TV or films to watch on Netflix. My list is endless and I am constantly missing things. However, if its film streaming you are after I couldn't recommend amazon prime more at the moment. great selection.

Amazon is becoming a bit strange. They're adding tons of Kung Fu flicks recently, but also a lot of short films and randomness. I clicked on what was labelled as a documentary movie about Scientology, only for it to be an episode of "60 Minutes Australia", or similar. It wasn't a technical hitch, they had misadvertised the item. The Silverlight plug-in they use really eats up the battery on my laptop too, I find.

I did see three decent French films on Amazon last week, however. Recommend all of them.

"La Haine" is a pretty gritty mid-nineties drama that follows three youths from an impoverished suburban Paris estate. Deals with themes of race, rioting and police violence so it kind of resonates with current issues, and with the three main characters learning about trust and friendship along the way. It's actually very prettily shot. It has a 100% Rotten Tomato thing allegedly.

Also, "Delicatessen" I had wanted to see for ages. It's a comedy set within a strange post-apocalyptic apartment building, also in Paris (I think) where the tenants rely on the questionable supplies of the butcher operating the deli below and where food has become a currency. A new tenant moves in to replace the previous butchered maintenance man and has to avoid becoming dinner. It's from the same director who made "Amelie" so it's visually captivating with the setting and the characters are all really vivid and cartoonish. Really funny good crazy fun times. Loved it.

Last one was "Dans La Cour" which is a comedy/drama about a musician who quits his band after becoming overwhelmed with ambivalence, and decides to take what he hopes would be a repetitive menial job as a maintenance man in an old Paris apartment complex. Although it's a comedy, it deals with issues of mental health with the various residents displaying different signs, and how they interact. The main character's a real lovable, funny chap and the film follows whether the situation he puts himself in either helps or hinders his depression. It offers all of the feels.

Amazon Prime is horrible to navigate on the PS4, is there a better way to flip through the catalogue?

Netflix isn't much better but I'm use to Netflix.

    Nope not really.

What I do is every 6 weeks or so I check their latest releases and add them to my watch list.

I found this guy's site handy to see new releases, and particularly for being able to browse the Netflix catalogue before subscribing. It also reveals how much crap they're adding, as well as what gets removed:

    New on Netflix UK

    New on Amazon Prime UK

Fargo Season Two in now on UK Netflix. I'm so happy cause I heard such good things about this last year, and I never bothered watching it cause I think I missed the first two weeks when it aired and couldn't catch up. The first series was great. Gonna binge the shit out of it.

Not quite as good as season one but still amazing. Kirsten Dunst actually knocks it out of the park.

    'Stranger Things' goes up tomorrow.

I will watch it, but the trailer has got me questioning, how far can this go before we stop taking it as an 'homage' to Spielberg and start calling it just a rip off of Spielberg? This feels like ET/Close Encounters/Jaws all rolled into one.

I guess the same could be said about JJ's Super 8, and I did enjoy that film.

I'm looking forward to it. The reviews are all good, and they seem to indicate that the show is compelling even while it's clear that it's an homage to Spielberg and John Carpenter.

I also really enjoyed Super 8 despite it being a pastiche.

Anyone watched 'The Get Down' yet?

I watched the first feature length episode last night, I was sceptical in the first 10-15 minutes but it won me round and I actually enjoyed it.

Considering watching 'Power' now, anyone seen it, any good?

Or ditch that and do Fargo/Stranger things?

I would say no you don't need to but it's preferable. Season 1 of Fargo has 1 scene that's a plot connection to the movie that would be of use to know about, but not knowing it wouldn't be a big deal. I could even tell you what it is without really spoiling either entity. In terms of themes and whatnot, yea the show follows the theme and style of the movie so you appreciate the show a little more if you're a fan of the movie.

The movie is a classic anyway so I recommend it.

Mad Men. But not everyone will be interested in a show about a 60s advertising agency. Some might find it boring, but it's top notch drama.

Don't know if it's been discussed, but has anyone seen the series Slasher? I'd recommend it if you're looking for a new show to binge. Has one season with the new season coming out early next year. It will be an anthology so you won't need to worry about anything carrying over.

I enjoyed the first several episodes and then it kind of petered out for me... especially the finale.

glad to hear that it will be an all-new premise next season; much akin to American Horror Story.

    i'll definitely give a view.

the killer's outfit was creepy as fuck.

People on here must be watching Power? It's on season 3 now, quality show. Last night I watched episode 5 & 6 and episode 5 was brilliant, one of them were you're going over what happened 10 minutes later still in shock.

Good choice. I watch too much stuff to have been able to finish the series yet, but well into season 4.

Is 3 & 4 any good. It seems like after the story of season 1 & 2 they could've ended it there and it would've been perfect.

It's kept my attention and interest, when I can sit long enough to stick with one show. I'm about 3 or 4 episodes into the final season. I agree though, I think after season 2 it could've ended but no complaints about it continuing on.

I've got one episode of 'The Get Down' left.

It's a strange show. It's not serious and a lot of the characters are like caricatures, but I am still really enjoying it. To me it feels a bit like a guilty pleasure. The scenes with Grandmaster Flash teaching the young crew how to mix records is just so well shot, edited and creative that it silences out some of the poorer aspects of the show. All the young cast are really good, apart from maybe the girl that plays Mylene, but I think she might have been cast for her voice over her acting abilities. Shameik Moore is excellent in it, I would really like to see him in more shows and films. I thought he was great in 'Dope'.

This show is always going to get comparisons to 'Vinyl', and I would probably say this is a little bit better than Vinyl even though it takes itself a little bit less serious and a few critics have pointed out that the show "butchers the history of hip-hop" which I can understand. I also hope they get rid of the Flash Forward scenes in Part Two, but keep the rap songs by Nas.

Has anyone else given this a shot? I can see it not being everybody's bag.

It feels good to overcome my hatred of certain actors and give shows a try. I doubt I'll ever try Brooklyn Nine-Nine though because fuck Andy Samberg.

I watched the first 3 and think it is fantastic. I am not typically into the overstylized theater acting but this show presents very well. I would agree on Mylene, however she is very nice to look at and Jimmy Smits is freaking fantastic. All the kids are pretty ace.

Just finished it last night. The last episode is the best of this first half of Season One.

Supposedly they struggled in post-production to get the full series out in time, so they decided to release it in 2 parts.

I watched this on Saturday. I really enjoyed it, but it was really strange. You could tell it was a French film. I wonder what my 6 year old nephew would make of this film. For a kids film it was really deep and not as straightforward as I was expecting.

The nature of art, life, death, worth, lonliness, pressure and expectation bundled in a wonderful mix of animation styles.

I can't believe it didn't get a cinematic release in the US and UK, madness.

I am on episode 10 of Season 1 and not regretting it. I can tell there will be a lot to come but I am already enjoying the show. It's definitely a slow build, but the character development, dialogue and attention to detail in this show are incredible.

Don is obviously a fascinating character, but I find myself most intrigued by Pete Campbell. He almost seems to possess some dark, sinister side and I hope they play that up later in the series.

After many of years of refusing to subscribe I have relented.

Looking for some suggestions. I've seen some online reviews for Hemlock Grove that aren't too negative.

Sense8/The Last Kingdom are two originals I've been recommended as well.

Any gems out there I'm not aware of?

Binged through the Bojacks/Mike Tyson Adventures/Stranger Things/Narcos, etc. Next big ones on my list are Suits/The Killing/Longmire. Need to catch up on Daredevil/Jessica Jones. Narcos S2 coming out soon is exciting.

I find lots of episodes of comedy shows to be fine, but dramas I enjoy when they are shorter and well thought out.

Haven't heard of 'Love' before ..

F is for had it's moments. Big fan of Bill Burr's work. House of Cards for whatever reason I need to spread out - the characters as good as they are wear on me. Superb television though.

Master of None I've been iffy on - I can only take so much Aziz.

Wet Hot American Summer was great fun. Obviously not taking itself seriously. The movie from a few years is the same.

The first few nights I've been knocking out animated Batmans/JLAs/Avengers movies. I'm in deep.

Don is obviously a fascinating character, but I find myself most intrigued by Pete Campbell. He almost seems to possess some dark, sinister side and I hope they play that up later in the series.
glad you're enjoying it. wonderful show. I too love Pete, and Alison Brie as his wife aint bad either. Don's the man but he's the prickish antihero and I found myself more rooting for Peggy and Pete.

Anything longer make me want it to fuck off close to the end of a run.

Amazing. Bloody love Christopher Guest films. Very excitement. It's just missing Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara but new additions are always interesting.

I watched the German thriller 'Victoria' last night and I was blown away by it. A 2 hour 20 min film that was filmed in one take. Everything about it had me engrossed. I can't even begin to think what the logistics for shooting a film like this must have been. 9/10.

Thought it safer to put this in here than in the actual thread in case I spoil myself.

Recently got into It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and I'm making my way through all 11 seasons. Currently midway through season 3 and absolutely loving it.

Yassss. Great call. That show is incredible. Personally I think seasons 3-4-5 are the best but it stays good all the way through (granted there are some dud episodes in the later seasons). It has incredible replayability and quotability. I recently burned myself out on it but that was only after I was watching about 10 episodes a week on average over the course of 9 months, just popping on old episodes before bed most nights.

Since it's a sitcom you don't have to worry about spoilers so don't be afraid to jump in the show thread. Although if you read through the thread you might have some classic jokes spoiled.

Yeah I'd rather avoid having them spoiled. I'll have a look at the show thread once I'm all caught up.

    Isn't that just a movie?

I watched Mascots and it was average. There were some funny bits but not enough to keep me interested. Netflix have a poor track record for their original movies. I think 'Beasts of No Nation' is the only one that bucks that trend. And I think that one was made independently and then bought by Netflix.

Don't get me wrong some of their original tv shows and documentaries are top notch. But from the films I've seen, I'm not impressed. Fair enough they are gonna have a bit of a 'Straight to DVD' vibe. But the amount of money they are spending on these films, I at least expect something for my money.

I hope they don't fuck up Duncan Jones' 'Mute'.

Anyone watch the movie High Rise with Tom Hiddleston? Reviews from critics were good, but reviews from general public were mixed. I saw it's pretty new to Netflix.

Currently watching the Office (US version) on Netflix. It's really a similar situation to Parks and Rec really, I cannot stand Amy Poehler on that show, and I cannot stand Steve Carrell on the Office, but as each episode comes and goes, they do get less irritating. Just started Season 3 yesterday and enjoying the characters a lot, especially Creed and Stanley.

We watched 'Mascots' last night. It was alright. Not really any big laughs, more just generally amusing, average but not terrible.
