Isn't this only going to hurt Netflix? Why would they do this to themselves?

They've already got around it. I couldn't access anything other than Australia for a bit but now back on everything again.

Season Two of Young Justice is finally on netflix.

The Last Five Years was also added. If you like musicals, this is one to watch.

Into Season 5 of TNG. Just finished the 2 parter with Spock.

It's weird watching it now and understanding the humor more and some of the character nuances and actually laughing at stuff that I didn't understand was supposed to be funny all those years ago when I would just catch an episode here and there.

Took a break from Star Trek for a minute. Watched Lizzie Borden Took An Axe movie and the whole series (Season 1?) of The Chronicles of Lizzie Borden. Kinda hope they make another season and follow her exploits in Paris. Christina Ricci is still creepy sexy!

Also watched the first 3 episodes of Season 2 of From Dusk till Dawn. Enjoying that too.

Sign up for a free trial with one of the others while you wait for them to sort it out. Gives you a week or two.

It worked again the next day. I think it'll be a bit of cat & mouse for a while until either the VPN firms or Netflix get bored. Which you imagine will be Netflix.

When I was a kid I fucking hated holodeck episodes that were nothing more than an excuse for Brent Spiner to showcase his abilities at doing voices and accents. They just felt so damn forced and unnatural. The last few seasons you could see those episodes coming and it would just fill one up with a sense of dread.

Watched this movie called Wrecker a couple of nights ago, and didn't find it to be that bad. According to imdb.com, it's almost a shot for shot remake of Spielberg's Duel. However, reviews on imdb.com for this film give it 1 out of 10. Didn't think it was that bad to be honest. Not a 5 star movie by any means, but ok for 80 minutes to kill.

Apparently people are getting caught when they keep bouncing between regions. I'm keeping mine on the US for now in fear of what happens if I change it. It's like that episode of Friends when they get the free porn.

Now that the VPNs are fucked, is it worth making region specific Netflix threads?

    FYI, these are some of the better titles added to Netflix UK in March;

    45 Years
    I Love You Phillip Morris
    Ides of March
    Turbo Kid
    Grand Budapest Hotel
    Flubber
    Captain America - Winter Soldier
    Cinema Paradiso
    Indias Daughter
    The Lives of Others
    The New Girlfriend
    Waynes World 1 & 2

There's still decent stuff on there, but for me it's the lack of world cinema distribution that is frustrating. The US gets a lot of the Asian titles and the UK doesn't even get them released legally by any distribution means.

With the VPN removal I wouldn't be surprised if they see a reduction in subscriptions, but at the same time they're probably able to survive even with that slight dip.

I think it's going to be more than a slight dip. Netflix's demographics are skewed towards people who are savvy enough to use VPNs. They'll feel the pain of the cancellations no doubt.

To be honest I use their service for TV shows more than anything else and the UK catalogue doesn't stack up well. Even older shows like the new HD versions of the X-Files, Friends, the Star Treks... I don't see other companies holding exclusive rights for these but they're not available on the store.

I was midway through Everything's Sunny in Philadelphia. That's gone. Latter seasons of Parks & Rec, 30 for 30.... does anyone own the rights to these in the UK? I can't think of a single legal way to watch the back catalogue of these.

I think the fact that we've both identified two different ends of the spectrum is highlighting a problem that Netflix have - any single country's catalogue is unlikely to be all things to all people.

Netflix needs to add CJ7. Fantastic movie.

Definitely needs more world cinema. TV series are all well and good but I think movies in general are lacking on the UK version.

For films, Sky have exclusive rights on any new releases worth watching. So they're probably going to need to look at what they can offer outside of the mass-market that Sky has got covered.

I can't remember the last time I watched a US TV show via a legal means. Everything is online on so many different formats. My 9 year old cousin jokingly said "Putlocker and chill" to me the other day when I said had he seen "The Good Dinosaur".

It's so frustrating, the UK Netflix hardly has anything on it that's any good especially TV series. I was going to The 100 via US Netflix, which isn't on C4s online service at all. Such a shame regional restrictions are still a thing, all it does is encourage piracy.

Just watched the first season of How to Get Away With Murder.

Loved it, fully reccomend, just a good smart murder mystery with loads of twists. Total popcorn viewing but really good fun.

Animaniacs full series added to Netflix. Crazy to watch as an adult. So many jokes that I would never have picked up on as a kid.

I really tried to watch and get into ST: DS9, but after 5 episodes, my interest didn't rise. I'm halfway through season 2 of Voyager and I'm enjoying the shit out of it.

I have a quick question regarding continuity of Enterprise though. I've seen every episode during it's run and I enjoyed it as well. Here's my question. Some people believe that with the 2009 reboot, Enterprise is the only show that still has true continuity. I kind of disagree with that though. Because of the last episodes cop out. I guess it still happened, but we only know that due to Riker & Troi watching the entire series as hollodeck images of the missions. It's kind of like if a tree falls in a forest and no one's around, did it make a noise? So what are my fellow Trekkies thoughts on this?

I thought the finale hook with "cook" being Riker was goofy. But it didn't ruin it for me.

DS9 takes a while to get going. Give it another shot.

Voyager is a lot easier to get into than DS9 because Voyager has a semi-decent first season. It never grows from there though whereas DS9 gets sensational. To be fair, there were some bad episodes in the first couple of years of DS9.

If you don't want to watch all of DS9 then jump in at the 20th episode of Season Two (a two parter called 'The Marquis') and watch from there. From that point onwards it's really good (other than the odd trip to the Mirror Universe).

DS9 actually starts to get good once the Jem H'dar come in. I think the end of season 3?
You should start there and just watch the 'war' episodes.

Captains Sisko season 4-7 is such a boss compared to 1-3.
I think the highlights are season 5-6, when the storyline is all about the war.

AND... DS9 is one of the few series that actually has and ending, at pretty good one at that.
If DS9 was just 4 seasons, no filler and slightly better acting, this would be the bomb.
But I'm glad we have this.

Voyager is one of the biggest missed opportunities on TV, and definitely the biggest one in the ST universe. It could've been such a different, darker show touching on so many different and hard hitting issues. But no all we had was Janeway screwing her own crew over because she wanted to check out some stupid anomaly 2 years out of their way and her incessant abiding of the prime directive at the cost of all her crew too. If only....

Chakotay should've over-thrown her long before they got anywhere near Earth.

Don't even get me start on Neelix.

The Dominion stuff starts at the end of the season two hence why I suggested starting there. Those last few episodes of that year are great.

Anyone know of a VPN/DNS/Proxy that isn't being blocked by Netflix? I was using Unblock-US which is now blocked as well as Unlocator. The UK Netflix is pretty terrible compared to other regions so I'm not sure if it's even worth the £7.50 now.

I think they are pretty much all blocked now? You are right the UK version is lacking in content.

I think season 2 is one of DS9's best seasons, but people are right that things really start to kick off with the larger arcs from the end of that season. Here's some must-see episodes from the first two seasons; you could easily skip the rest and not miss out on anything:

    - Duet (Season 1): A brilliant Kira episode, showing just how good of an actress Nana Visitor was, and it delves into the emotions surrounding the Cardassian Occupation quite nicely.
    - In The Hands of the Prophets (Season 1): This is the finale, featuring a murder case and a look at the politics between the Federation and Bajor.
    - The Homecoming/The Circle/The Siege: Perhaps an uneven three-parter as it goes on, but it was the start of DS9 getting a bit more action-centric and it continues to establish the Kai Winn character who becomes a big player later in the series.
    - Cardassians: A perfect example of DS9's strengths in looking at big issues and political intrigue. It really brings the mysterious character of Garak into his own, plus another appearance from Gul Dukat which is always welcome.
    - Necessary Evil: One of DS9's best episodes, with Odo revisiting an unsolved case from his days as an investigator during the Cardassian Occupation of the station. An important milestone in the relationship between Odo and Kira.
    - Whispers: A classic O'Brien episode, where he discovers a growing conspiracy and doesn't know who to trust.

Then just watch from Blood Oath and The Maquis two-parter onwards to finish season 2. It's a great run of episodes. The earlier Rivals and Armageddon Game episodes establish the long-running O'Brien/Bashir dynamic, but they're not essential viewing.

Thank you everyone. I'm gonna finish Voyager since I'm almost done with season 2, then I'll just start DS9 again. If it gets better, then I don't want to miss anything from the beginning. I'll just plow through the first couple seasons. I also want to be pretty close to finished if I can before the new series starts.

What you will probably find is that Voyager gets harder to watch as the seasons go by and DS9 gets easier to watch.

There's so many aspects of it to enjoy, but the occasional intense bleakness and detestable nature of the characters make it uncomfortable viewing at times.

Billy Bob Thornton is absolutely fantastic though. He makes me laugh, but turns my stomach at the same time.

I need to finish this off tonight.

Pretty big news from a week or two back that Netflix struck a deal with Disney and apparently every single Disney movie will be available for streaming. This includes Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm in addition to the main Disney movies. I can't imagine they'll put them all on at once - surely it'll be some sort of rotation or else that would be hundreds and hundreds of flicks - but the news stories I'm reading keep saying they'll all be made available in September. So I dunno. Either way, cool news.

I'm onto Bloodline Season 2. It's great. Proper acting. I love the slow-burn story telling.

Also watched Bo Burnham's new special, 'Make Happy', over the weekend. Definitely worth a watch, but maybe not as good as 'what.'

Going to be taking a vacation in about a month and have decided it will be 7 days sitting at home and chilling I am needing some suggestions for good binge watching.

Been saving Daredevil season 2 for this and the 2nd season of Bloodline. Any other recommendations?

Shorter stuff than shows... do you watch any standup? Recommend Lavell Crawford, and also Chris D'Elia Incorrigible.
Working on finishing The Killing. Good series.

Hot (and ugly) lesbian prison sex probably wouldn't be a good option in a crowded airport terminal.

Opted for Rick and Morty instead because there's no sex or violence in that show.

Just finally got around to watching "Hush"-- at the recommendation of beer belly-- and it was fucking excellent.

very suspenseful without being overtly gory.

hard to believe that was a blumhouse vehicle.

the girl who plays the lead is gorgeous.

Yeah, I showed it to a friend and he also enjoyed it. It's suspenseful and the jump scares are kept to a minimum. I wonder if it would have gotten a bigger audience with a more traditional theatrical release, but I'm glad Netflix bought it and put it out as soon as they could.

That director is in the running to direct the new Halloween, so that could be cool. He also directed Oculus, but I never saw that.

That was the deciding factor in me seeing Hush in the first place; wanted to see if he was any good.

wasn't 'Oculus' a WWE- produced film? I could have sworn that was the reason I didn't watch it.

It looks like they co-produced it with Blumhouse and a few other production companies. Apparently WWE Studios got involved just to help with marketing in exchange for a cut of the profit or something.

The reviews are good for the most part, some I'll give it a chance at some point.

Oculus was...ok. I enjoyed the build up but the ending felt flat.

I just noticed that all the Star Trek TV series (Original, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Enterprise, Animated) are now on UK Netflix.

That's great news, I had ten episodes left of Voyager when the curtain came down on Unblock-US.

Next gen is the only one I appreciate really.

Might be partial due to a childhood bias, however.

DS9 is streets ahead of all the rest.

Voyager was crap but I committed to a watch-through and almost made it to the end so I can finish that off now.

Anyone watched the original series recently? Know if it holds up? I'm quite tempted to watch them all and start at the very beginning.

I just had this discussion with my wife. She was a big TNG fan, but had never seen DS9. I told her that TNG had some stellar episodes, but you had to get through some bad to just ok episodes to get to them. Where as DS9 had some stellar seasons, where one episode just built on the last.

blimey DS9 had its share of complete dross as well though. Mirror Universe, anyone? ANYTHING to do with Bashir?

The best episodes definitely hold up, either in making a point about a social issue or just for scenery-chewing swashbuckling fun. It takes a while for season 1 to settle into its groove and for the character traits to be firmly established, but it has a lot of classics as it goes on - Balance of Terror, The Galileo Seven, Arena, Space Seed, Tomorrow is Yesterday, The Devil in the Dark, Errand of Mercy, City on the Edge of Forever and The Menagerie Two-Parter would be my picks from that season if you didn't plan to watch it all. Not saying all of those are brilliant, but they are great examples of the general tone of the show.

I don't think I've seen more than a few minutes of the Animated Series, so I'll definitely be checking it out.

The Ferengi "comedy" episodes in DS9 are mostly dire. Up there with the worst of the franchise.

I quite liked some (not all) of the Ferengi ones. They needed comic relief from Rom & Quark to off-set some of the darker themes of the show in comparison to the other Star Trek series.

The Mirror Universe stuff was shit.
