Really? I always pegged him for lawful neutral.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Tanahashi vs. Nakamura, as not only do they bring out the best in each other, but this could possibly be their first meeting where I DON'T think Nakamura is a technically sound yet completely boring shithead.

He isn't nearly enough of a rebel. But I think we can both agree he isn't, ahem, true neutral.

Neutral Good Rogue for the win.

EDIT: In a thread about New Japan, we've spent more time talking about tabletop RPGs. WIN.

Speaking of I am still pissed all that surfaced of that Aichi show last December was the really great Tanahashi vs Naito match. I really want to see that Apollo 55 vs Motor City Machine Guns match.

I just rewatched when Sabu and Kanemoto traded the IWGP Jr Title back and forth. Sabu semi main eventing Budokan Hall and working a stadium show is really weird.

I just watched New Japan's Sendai show. Here are some thoughts

Goto vs Naito was great. And really the way Goto was working was foreshadowing his heel turn. There was an ultra aggressiveness there. And Naito is just amazing as long as the guy he's working with isn't an addict who doesn't give a shit.

IWGP Tag Titles was really really good. Strongman and Nakanishi going 20 scared me, but they pulled it off. Hell Strongman got hurt and kept going. Plus Karl Anderson trying to beat up the guy from Tokyo Sports was great.

IWGP Title this was what you'd expect a great match. Kojima looks revitalized by coming back to New Japan and Tanahashi is great.

IWGP Jr Title I was really disappointed by this one. Seemed like it never got out of first gear.

I have watched the Elimination Match twice. Still don't know how Tenzan got eliminated.

    Ah, gotcha. Fair enough then.

I haven't heard anyone talking about how KUSHIDA has been so far. Did I just miss his debut or was it bad or what?

    4. Giant Bernard, Karl Anderson & Tomoaki Honma beat Toru Yano, Takashi Iizuka & Tomohiro Ishii (9:49) when Bernard pinned Ishii after the Magic Killer.
    5. Super Jr. Special 6 Man Tag Match: Kota Ibushi Dramatic Dream Team, Kenny Omega Dramatic Dream Team & Daisuke Sasaki beat Prince Devitt, Ryusuke Taguchi & KUSHIDA (14:55) when Ibushi used a Phoenix splash on KUSHIDA.

    8. Special Singles Match: Togi Makabe beat Satoshi Kojima (17:17) with a King Kong kneedrop.

    * Makabe won what appears to have been the decisive match of his Korakuen-based feud with Kojima in the main event, pinning Kojima after his King Kong kneedrop to go 2-1 over the veteran this year.
    * Tanaka brought Nagata’s momentum to a halt after Mr. Saikyo won the Champion Carnival, pinning him in a tag match that built up both Tanahashi vs. Nakamura and Nagata vs. Tanaka for 5/3 Fukuoka.
    * NO LIMIT have chance to end Bad Intention’s nearly year long reign as IWGP Tag Team Champions in Fukuoka after winning a contendership match over Tenzan & Inoue today.

Let's see... I just happened to look up Taka, and watched:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU60q-y4CuQ"]YouTube - IWGP Jr. Title: Prince Devitt vs TAKA Michinoku (Part 1)[/ame]

But the first match I watched was:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN-qNl47OE0"]YouTube - 01. Minoru vs Shuji Kondo vs Kaz Hayashi - (AJPW 02/06/11)[/ame]

    Unbelievable stuff.

Ah, okay. So yeah, both from this year and both Jr. Heavyweight matches but the second is from AJPW. Still, if you enjoyed those matches then here are some other notable JHW matches from 2011 so far:

    2011
    All Japan:
Kaz Hayashi vs. Minoru, AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title - 1/2/11 (Minoru ends Hayashi's unbelievable 695 day reign as Champion)
Kaz Hayashi vs. Shuji Kondo, 2/11/11 (Number One Contenders match)
Minoru vs. Shuji Kondo, AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title - 3/21/11

    New Japan:
Prince Devitt vs. Kota Ibushi, IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title - 1/4/11 (This is from New Japan's biggest show of the year, WrestleKingdom V)

    NOAH:
Kotaro Suzuki vs. Eddie Edwards, GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title - 1/29/11
Kotaro Suzuki vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima, GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title - 3/5/11

Matches that I think you might particularly enjoy in red.

(Can find you some links too if you don't have any luck, but most of them should be on youtube)

Also, did anyone grab your attention the most? If so, I can recommend some of the best of that wrestler if you'd like. 2010 was a pretty great year for Jr. wrestling in my opinion and the likes of Devitt, Marufuji, Ibushi, KENTA and so forth had lots of really good matches.

Personally, I am a fan of the NJPW stuff from the early 90's. There was some good stuff back then. I haven't kept up very well recently, but if you are just interested in puroresu in general, the Super J Cups and G1 Climax 1995 are well worth the look.

New Japan's Junior Heavyweight division in the early/mid-90's is one of the greatest eras in wrestling ever. There is an obscene amount of quality from that period. If Delta Devil is enjoying the juniors matches of 2011, he should absolutely watch as much as possible from 89-96 New Japan

    Oh absolutely.

Though I think NOAH's Jr. division from the early 00s is often overlooked in comparison. it isn't nearly as good as that was, but it was some really inventive shit with two rising superstars.

Let's not forget Michinoku Pro in the 90's and Toryumon/Dragon Gate/El Dorado/Lucharesuniverse when they were still the FUTURE of wrestling!

Super J Cup 1994 is by far my favorite tournament I have ever seen. Even if it was won by he who must not be named. It was the first show that was reccommended to me when I wanted to start watching puro.

We've had the discussion many times. You like to pretend Chris Benoit doesn't exist. I think that is silly.

Watching the 39th Anniversary show now. MVP/Anderson is well worth your time. Crowd enjoyed it and oooooooohed when Anderson kicks out of the Playmaker. Good match. Cewsh should also watch the 6-man tag for KUSHIDA picking up the fall and the awesome Gedo/Jado shenanigans at the beginning.

Also Taichi & TAKA are amazing.

Still got Nak/Goto, Mak/Koji and the SPECIAL 6 MAN to go!

This is the stuff I cut my teeth on back during the end of the tape-trading days. It, along with WCW, is why the Jrs will always matter to me more than the heavyweights. Ah, the time before the internet and the smell of the flea market which would waft from every box I opened.

Nakamura is Grrrrrrrrreat in the Goto match. The part where he kicks Goto and turns to smile at the camera is priceless. What a fucking man.

Thanks a lot, Ringo. Watched the whole thing... I'm hooked on this stuff now.

Only thing I didn't like was MVP unfortunately. He sticks out so much in the worst way. He just sucks.

Watched most of the show with Vice last night. KUSHIDA/Devitt was awesome, even though KUSHIDA was the teensiest bit botchy, and Nakamura is so fucking great right now. Everything else was pretty dull though.

Yeah, not a particularly good show. The New Beginning was much better, as was 3/6. Definitely watch the former if you haven't already. Can't wait until the finals and New Dimension surface.

Going to have a CHAMPION'S CARNIVAL MARATHON tonight I reckon

    4. Toru Yano, Takashi Iizuka & Masato Tanaka ZERO1 beat Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue (13:26) when Tanaka used the Sliding D on Inoue.
    5. CMLL World Welterweight Title: Ryusuke Taguchi (c) beat Taichi (18:08) with a La Mistica-style Dodon (2nd defense).
    6. Satoshi Kojima beat Tomoaki Honma (9:06) with a lariat.
    7. Togi Makabe beat TAKA Michinoku Kaientai Dojo (6:32) with a King Kong kneedrop.
    8. Shinsuke Nakamura & Mascara Dorada beat Hiroshi Tanahashi & Jushin Thunder Liger (14:41) when Nakamura used the Boma Ye on Tanahashi.

    * Nakamura took a major step forward before he faces Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title on 5/3, pinning him in today’s tag main event that built up two title matches on the Fukuoka show.
    * Taichi failed in an attempt to win his first title in New Japan, falling to Taguchi’s new La Mistica-style Dodon, which as the name suggests is a mix of his Dodon and Mistico’s (now WWE’s Sin Cara) La Mistica finisher.

From everything I've heard recently about New Japan, as well as their brief stint with TNA; I've always wanted to investigate, but it's a bit daunting. Where's a good place to start? I don't want to place the pressure on one match that doesn't deliver, then go into a tantrum and stick the '92 Rumble on to calm my nerves.

You may have noticed that the main event of today’s New Japan event ended in a ref stoppage, and now thanks to Daily Sports I now know why-the reason was an injury suffered by Manabu Nakanishi. Neck. According to my translation, it’s a serious injury. Here’s what happened: About 10 minutes into the match Nakanishi was apparently attempting a German suplex hold, presumably on Wataru Inoue, but something went wrong during the move and Nakanishi fell and suffered a serious neck injury. He suffered some cervical vertebra damage and also reportedly had numbness in one hand, but that may be gone now and fortunately it doesn’t appear to be as serious as it could have been. But either way it sounds like he could be out a while-neck injuries can take a while to come back from, the last big man like Nakanishi to suffer a neck injury that I know of, NOAH star Takeshi Rikioh, is still out after about 1 year (he’s making event appearances and looks well but hasn’t returned to the ring). We’ll see what happens here, hopefully it’s not worst-case.

    * Yujiro drew first blood in what is likely to be a lengthy grudge feud with former NO LIMIT partner Naito, and Naito was gang attacked after the match before Honma made the save.
    * Best of the Super Jr. winner, Kota Ibushi, ended Prince Devitt’s one year reign as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion in an emotional match.
    * Bad Intentions make history twice over with one three count, smashing Chono & Tenzan’s IWGP Tag Team Title defense record while at the same time taking the GHC Tag Team Title from NOAH to become double champions. Bernard & Anderson cement themselves as one of the most dominant teams in Japanese tag wrestling history.
    * Tanahashi retained the IWGP Heavyweight Title over Goto in what is being called an epic match. Goto came closer than ever to winning the title that has eluded him so far but disappointingly still wasn’t able to surpass Tanahashi and the wait continues. After making history in the match beforehand, Giant Bernard appeared after the match and challenged Tanahashi! If this is realized, Bernard has the chance to become a 3-crown champion.
    Woah.

    7. J SPORTS CROWN 6 Man Openweight Tag Team Tournament – Final: Hirooki Goto, Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi beat Giant Bernard, Karl Anderson & Jushin Thunder Liger (13:50) when Goto used the Shouten Kai on Anderson.

    * “Apollo 555″ Hirooki Goto, Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi make it two out of two, following up on last year’s J SPORTS CROWN 6 Man Openweight Tag Team Tournament win with another! Last year they bested Tanahashi, TAJIRI & KUSHIDA in the final while this year they defeated Bad Intentions & Liger to add another trophy to their collection, much needed after all three of them lost singles title matches at the recent Osaka PPV. Goto won the fall in both matches, showing that he is a force to be reckoned with despite his latest failure to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

Nothing really -- and I seriously doubt DDT or Ringo got fucked -- just wondering what the rules on that would be. I know it's a spoiler in the WWE Wrestling forum but not sure about here.

Man, Mr Saito. How old is he now +100?

Chono, Otani, Tenzan and Kanemoto are some of my old Japanese favorites from back in the day. Brings back memories of me playing Toukon Retsuden on the PS1.

Haha, not MASA Saito. He's long retired (unfortunately... )

Hiro Saito is pretty much only famous for being in Team Wolf with ChoTen and later nWo Japan.

Ah ok, silly me. I remember watching Mr Saito in WCW, probably at Starrcade 1995 against Johnny B. Badd and he was like 85 back then. I should have realized that anyone being tag-team champion with Mr Fuji can't still be an active wrestler.

    * An emotional 20th anniversary for Tenzan which saw several returns to New Japan, including his sworn friends from the Ookami Gundan era, Masahiro Chono and Hiro Saito. This was Chono’s first in-ring appearance for the company where he became a legend since his harmonious departure at the beginning of 2010. On the other side, Nishimura returned to his old haunt after leaving the company at the beginning of 2006, while Otani also made a return although this was one of many for him since he left New Japan to help found ZERO-ONE at the beginning of 2001. Tenzan scored the win by unleashing his moonsault press on former tag partner Nishimura to seal a 20th anniversary victory.

New Japan held its annual “CAMP ZAMA CAMPFEST” yesterday at the U.S. military base Camp Zama. Akebono made a special appearance in the main event while four joshi puroresu legends kicked off the show in an OZ Academy Offer Match.
