Match was good but I was a bit disappointed to be honest, considering how much of a run ZSJ has been on lately. He was great in the NJC and has really felt like a major player and worthy contender lately. I didn't feel like this quite hit those heights. 2022 Okada is probably a big part of the reason why. I do like that it was under 30 minutes though.

I liked the Sanada/Ospreay/Tanahashi segment. Ospreay's such a prick. Never been a huge Sanada guy but it's a damn shame he has to relinquish the belt so soon after finally winning a championship.

Glad Cobb & Khan won the tag titles.

I wish they would have pulled the trigger on ZSJ. So talented. Twice now they he has a fantastic run to win the New Japan Cup to lose to Okada in the title match. Granted those matches are always great matches but man let him have it.

Currently trying to talk my wife into letting me go early and do a meet and greet with Suzuki and Davy Richards and get a signed pic and photo op.

So Ospreay is coming to St. Louis with Warrior Wrestling. Not sure I can convince my wife to let me go to yet another show after doing Glory Pro Wrestling in a couple weeks and then Dynamite in June.

What's interesting here it that NJPW has a show in DC in May that Okada is going to be at. You'd figure the winner of Ospreay vs Mox should be #1 Contender for the winner of Okada vs Naito at the Fukuoka Dome.

Do they do Okada vs Mox in DC or is that for the rumored AEW vs NJPW show? It's easy to do politically since Mox is both an AEW and NJPW wrestler.

I thought Ospreay was going after the US title though. I do like your thought process and would like to see Okada vs Mox.

I also want Danielson in the G1

He is but the logic behind that was he beat the champion in a singles match so a Mox loss wouldn't change that

I was reading the results. Sounds like a really good show. I am sure some of the matches will be on AXS at some point. I don't have my subscription right now to New Japan World. I pretty much just restart it for Wrestle Kingdom and then cancel again. I honestly don't have time to squeeze in the shows most of the time. I am glad AXS tv has New Japan again so I can see some matches even if it is down the road a bit. Currently they have been showing matches from the New Japan Cup.

Juice played the fans but saying he was done with New Japan and his contract was up and he was not going to wrestle anymore or at least not anytime soon.

Ishii/Tanahashi and the main were really good, although I wanted different winners. Good to see Bad Boy Juice return and Good Brothers being back in front of a Japanese crowd is cool, they still feel like a big deal there. KOPW title feels like it's taking off as something more than just Yano's comedy gimmick now - Shingo vs. Taichi is a fun feud.

There's a whole bunch of Ibushi tweets coming out that seems to be about NJPW exploiting him and pressuring him to return before he was fully healed from injuries. It's not exactly a secret how Japanese companies exploit their workers, but it's unusual for someone to be so bold about the accusations. He might be done with New Japan after this. Here's the mega thread:

Curious to get Morrison's take on this.

So I thought Ibushi talking about wrestling being fake might get him blackballed, but now he has just dropped the one word you cannot under any circumstances say in his line of work which is Yakuza.

I think we've seen the last of pro wrestler Kota Ibushi and hell he might take NJPW with him.

Yep, just saw the post about mentioning the Yakuza. What a perfect time for AEW and NJPW to start their partnership Maybe Ibushi should get out of the country for a while.

It seems like he feels like he's been jerked around by this Kikuchi guy since getting hurt during the G1, he feels there is a double standard between how true born NJPW guys are treated and the way guys like him are, and he seems to have a weird relationship with guys like Taichi.

Japanese company embraces an eccentric free spirit type just once and he tanks the whole industry. Lesson there?

Sounds like Kidani is siding with Ibushi so that's interesting, and seems like there might be some heads rolling in the New Japan office.

okada with the g1 win. thought it was gonna be ospreay and one of the briefcase defenses would be against kenny.

wrestle kingdom also going back to a single event on 1/4 with new years dash on 1/5. thank fuck. with the rumor that a bunch of AEW talent will be on WK, it'll hopefully be a stacked card.

Yeah I think Kenny and Will is a WK match

Also Okada won the G1 the same week his son was born.

Do Omega vs. Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom, because that's the bigger marquee match. Omega is, in all sincerity, the bigger name.

And then on New Year's Dash, run Bryan Danielson/Will Ospreay to make up for the match that didn't get to happen at Forbidden Door.

Oh, and just for the Hell of it, book Omega/Okada Round 4? How many times have they wrestled? At New Year's Dash.

it was zsj that danielson was supposed to face at forbidden door. that would be a WK match itself.

next okada/omega match would be 5 and you don't do it at fucking new year's dash.

Didn't bother with any of the main G1 because the clap crowds and stale roster still aren't really doing it for me but I did sit down to watch the semis and Final. Okada/Tonga was solid, Ospreay/Naito really good but the final was incredible. Amazing match. Ospreay breaking out the High Fly Flow, Styles Clash, V-Trigger and attempting the One Winged Angel was class. Hell of a performance from Will. Presumably Ospreay will go one step further next year as that seems to be how they book.

If New Japan were more fun they'd be looking to shake things up a bit next year. Sounds like JONAH had a big G1 so I imagine we'll be seeing more from him. The return of Ibushi. A renewed push for Sanada, more from the STRONG roster, fresh AEW talent, pushes for the four heavyweight young lions currently on excursion (Umino, Uemura, Tsuji, Narita). See what happens.

I wouldn't be surprised to see ZSJ/Danielson and Omega/Ospreay at WK. Kind of torn on my thoughts about it going back to one night. I like 2 night events for big shows but I understand not everyone cares for that plus I know people didn't always like the title being up for grabs both nights.

the double gold dash concept was pretty good.

the fuckery with the g1 win and the way the matches were set up for wk15 were just dumb. ibushi losing the g1 shot, but still getting the title match against naito on night 1. winning the title on night 1 felt deflated given how thing were handled leading up to it, and didn't feel like a culmination cause we had a second day coming up with another title match.

the set up for last year, with will never losing the title and coming back as the 'real' champ and having g1 winner okada have to beat the 'fake' champ shingo and then the 'real' champ will, was great, in concept. it's just a shame that 2021 was such a weird, boring and down year for the company and especially the iwgp title. having okada bring back the v4 belt was fun, but it just undermined the current belt, which was already getting clowned on.

with the travel restrictions and the two night format the last two years, there was just a bunch of filler multi-man matches which i always ignore. these past two WK are the first two i didn't stay up to watch live cause each nights card just didn't feel particularly HUGE and i knew i'd be sitting through all these matches i didn't care about to finally get to a couple worth checking out.

watched the last couple minutes of the g1 final and it just did nothing to me. these clap crowds just kill any energy a match has for me. i'd rather have silence than polite clapping and a restrained 'ohhh' now and then honestly.

The main event of the anniversary show is Bishamon defending the tag titles against Okada and Tanahashi and then 5 days later Okada and Tanahashi face Narita and Shota.

So just like that NJPW's tag scene gets interesting for the first time in years.

    Dontaku was an interesting show.

Okada, Tanahashi, and Ishii won the Trios titles. Afterward Shota Umino came down to challenge and a Jon Moxley video played. Dominion looks like Okada, Tanahashi, and Ishii defending against Moxley, Shota, and a partner.

David Finlay won the NEVER title and was attack by ELP afterward. So that's his first challenger.

SANADA retained the World Title. Yota Tsuji made his return after the match and laid out Just 5 Guys and joined LIJ. Looks like his singles match back will be for the World Title at Dominion.

    Dominion so far looking like

World Title: SANADA vs Yota Tsuji
Trios Title: Okada, Tananashi, Ishii vs Moxley, Umino, X
Tag Ttiles: Aussie Open vs House of Torture vs Bishamon
NEVER Title: David Finlay vs El Phantasmo

Okada and Tanahashi along with Ishii being the 6 man is interesting.

Finlay is the leader of BC but yet went after the Never title. I guess in some ways makes sense since former BC Tonga was the champ and there was already a challenger for Sanada but yeah feels like Finlay should be doing more than just the Never openweight. Just not sold on him joining and being the leader. Guess we shall see how it goes.

I'm shocked Mercedes barely made it to what, 5 matches before she suffered an injury? I was thinking she'd at least make it until she came back to the WWE this summer before being on the shelf again. Brutal.

Gotta love the NJPW marks when they say Willow v. Mercedes was a GREAT match. The bar is so low these days.

The two Korakuen shows are worth watching. Everything else was very good, but nothing must see.
