Well part of the purpose of the tour is to convince the people that (let's face it) an upper mid-card heavyweight who's a week's diet from going junior heavyweight can beat the biggest draw in Japan...

    1. Captain New Japan, Tama Tonga, BUSHI & Maximo beat YOSHI-HASHI, Jado, Gedo & Tomohiro Ishii (7:48) when Captain used the Caribbean Death Grip on Gedo.
    2. KUSHIDA beat Low Ki (7:10) with a modified Japanese leg roll clutch hold.
    3. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov beat Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask (c) (13:44) when Romero used the Contract Killer on Tiger to become the 33rd champions.
    4. Special Elimination Match: Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer, TAKA Michinoku Kaientai Dojo & Taichi beat Togi Makabe, Yuji Nagata, Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi (16:46). Makabe threw Taichi over the top rope (9:23). Makabe used a King Kong kneedrop on TAKA (9:39). Archer threw Makabe over the top rope (10:41). Suzuki threw Nagata over the top rope (14:15). Archer threw Devitt over the top rope (15:41). Archer used the Blackout on Taguchi (16:46).
    5. IWGP Tag Team Title: Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima beat Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka (13:43) when Kojima used a lariat on Iizuka to become the 60th champions (decision match).
    6. Special Tag Match: Tetsuya Naito & Karl Anderson beat Kazuchika Okada & Yujiro Takahashi (15:30) when Naito used a Stardust press on Takahashi.
    7. IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Hirooki Goto (c) (16:50) with the Boma Ye to become the 4th champion.
    8. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) beat Masato Tanaka ZERO1 (26:15) with the High Fly Flow (2nd defense).

    * In front of a yet another sold out crowd for New Japan, Hiroshi Tanahashi overcame the fierce challenge of CHAOS’ Masato Tanaka in an exciting match to complete his V2 defense, ensuring that he goes into this year’s G1 Climax as champion just like last year. It took close to half an hour for Tanaka’s bold challenge to be put to an end but once again the New Japan ace proved his ability when he hit the High Fly Flow for the win. Tanahashi has now won fifteen IWGP Heavyweight Title matches over two reigns in the last one and a half years.

    * The IWGP Intercontinental Title scene was shaken up as in the biggest match in the title’s short history, Shinsuke Nakamura dethroned generation rival Hirooki Goto to become the 4th champion. Although considered a secondary title, this belt now certainly holds more prestige and worth than it did before and Nakamura adds another trophy to his well decorated cabinet.

    * The seemingly endless TenKoji vs. Yano & Iizuka feud seemed to find some sort of resolution today as with four referees to avoid yet another non-finish, Tenzan & Kojima defeated the dastardly CHAOS duo in a decision match for the vacant IWGP Tag Team Title. The title was held up last month after a no contest while Yano & Iizuka were champions and New Japan officials deemed them unfit to reign as champions after that, demanding they earn the belts again in a fresh collision with TenKoji. But with four referees ensuring Yano & Iizuka could only bend the rules so much, the now 4-time IWGP Tag Team Champions came out victorious as Kojima sunk Iizuka with a lariat. It’s 13 1/2 years since the popular TenKoji duo first won these belts when they defeated Genichiro Tenryu & Shiro Koshinaka on 1/4/99 at the Tokyo Dome but they are stronger than ever in their latest reunion.

    * The IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title is back in CHAOS custody for the first time since Davey Richards & Rocky Romero were forced to vacate the belts in May after Richards couldn’t make a title match and his New Japan stay subsequently ended. Romero has since found a new tag partner in the impressive Alex Koslov and today they scored a huge win over Liger & Tiger Mask, who only won the belts themselves last month. Tiger Mask fell to the Contract Killer, meaning the last three champions have failed to even register one successful defense… a trend the new champions will be hoping to put an end to.

    * In a huge upset on the undercard, KUSHIDA surprised the dominant Low Ki with a cradle to defeat the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion in a non-title match. This isn’t what Ki wanted ahead of his upcoming title defense against Kota Ibushi and for KUSHIDA, he will be watching that and could be the first to challenge the winner after today’s result.

Kind of surprising that they would hotshot the belt back onto Ibushi.

Well I don't think they ever wanted it to come off of him. I imagine they have designs on making him a junior Tanahashi.

    NJPW, 9/7/12 (J SPORTS)
    Tokyo Korakuen Hall
1,950 Fans – Super No Vacancy

    1. Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka beat Wataru Inoue & Hiromu Takahashi (6:42) when Yano used the Oni Koroshi on Takahashi.
    2. Low Ki, Rocky Romero, Alex Koslov & Averno beat Ryusuke Taguchi, Alex Shelley, BUSHI & Mascara Dorada (12:32) when Averno used an avalanche-style Devil’s Wings on Dorada.
    3. Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI beat Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask & Captain New Japan (9:05) when Takahashi used the Tokyo Pimps on Captain.
    4. Togi Makabe, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata beat Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer, Harry Smith & TAKA Michinoku Kaientai Dojo (11:39) when TAKA was DQ’d.
    5. Special Tag Match: Naomichi Marufuji Pro Wrestling NOAH & Mohammed Yone Pro Wrestling NOAH beat Tetsuya Naito & Tama Tonga (17:21) when Marufuji used the Tiger Frosion on Tonga.
    6. Special Tag Match: Hirooki Goto & Karl Anderson beat Shinsuke Nakamura & Kazuchika Okada (17:00) when Anderson used the Gun Stun on Nakamura.
    7. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kota Ibushi Dramatic Dream Team (c) beat KUSHIDA (25:10) with a sit-down Last Ride (1st defense).

    * Kota Ibushi overcame a ferocious and a spirited challenge from KUSHIDA in what proved to be a difficult V1 defense of his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title. After finishing off KUSHIDA with a sit-down Last Ride the champion barely had time to breathe before both Low Ki and Taguchi entered the ring issuing challenges to Ibushi.

    * G1 finalist Karl Anderson scored a big win in the semi final tag match as he (teaming with Goto) pinned Nakamura (teaming with Okada), and this looks like it could be leading to a G1 final rematch between Okada and Anderson at Kobe World Hall.

    * Despite his apparent knee injury, Tetsuya Naito was OK to wrestle today as he and Tama Tonga faced the NOAH tandem of Marufuji & Yone, with Marufuji pinning Tonga ahead of his title match with Tanahashi later this month.

    * K-DOJO star Kengo Mashimo interfered in the fourth match, helping Suzuki Gun which of course K-DOJO founder TAKA Michinoku is part of and now Mashimo looks to have joined. This should lead to participation in New Japan by Mashimo who challenged for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in the same building seven years ago.

    * Wataru Inoue issued a challenge to former tag partner and friend Katsuyori Shibata, along with Kazushi Sakuraba, which would see Wataru and Shibata in the same ring again after a long time.

Kengo Mashimo being in New Japan is excellent news. Wataru Inoue being in a feud is amusing for all the wrong reasons.

According to the announcers on the 6/16 show, Okada has never seen an Inoki or Fujinami match.

I can't imagine how that is physically possible; those were literally two of the biggest stars in the history of the company, one of whom was both the founder and one of the biggest wrestling stars EVER.

    3. Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask & Captain New Japan beat YOSHI-HASHI, Jado & Gedo (11:52) when Captain used the Caribbean Death Grip on Gedo.
    4. Hirooki Goto, Tetsuya Naito & Karl Anderson beat Toru Yano, Takashi Iizuka & Tomohiro Ishii (12:52) when Anderson used the Gun Stun on Ishii.

    6. Yuji Nagata 20th Anniversary Match: Yuji Nagata, Jun Akiyama Pro Wrestling NOAH & Masaaki Mochizuki Dragon Gate beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuchika Okada & Yujiro Takahashi (18:56) when Nagata used a backdrop hold on Takahashi.

    * Yuji Nagata celebrated his 20th anniversary as a pro wrestler with a successful show in his home region of Togane. Nagata worked hard on promoting this event and the result was a packed house of 2,250 fans.

    * The 2,250 fans saw a special main event where Nagata teamed with NOAH star and generation rival Jun Akiyama along with DRAGON GATE’s Masaaki Mochizuki in an “anti-aging” trio. They defeated CHAOS’ Nakamura, Okada & Yujiro with Nagata fittingly ending the match with his backdrop hold on Yujiro. New Japan trueborn and Nagata’s former Team JAPAN faction member Kazuyuki Fujita made a surprise appearance after the match to congratulate Nagata on his 20th anniversary. Nakanishi also appeared so the only Team JAPAN member missing was the enigmatic Kendo Kashin who hasn’t been seen in New Japan for a long time now. 90s star Hiroshi Hase also made an appearance.

    * Special guest Akebono was forced to miss the show due to an injury that will keep him out for a while.

New Japan’s NEVER brand presents its NEVER Openweight Title Tournament on 11/15 and 11/19 as recently revealed, with a brand new openweight title up for grabs. Tetsuya Naito was at the recent press conference and was to be the poster boy of the brand but after Yujiro Takahashi sent him to hospital on 10/11 that isn’t happening. The tournament features 16 wrestlers of many varieties, from higher profile heavyweights like Karl Anderson and Masato Tanaka to well known juniors like Ryusuke Taguchi and KUSHIDA to a bunch of K-DOJO and independent wrestlers like Kengo Mashimo (who wrestled Makabe on 9/23 at Kobe World Hall) and Daisuke Sasaki.

Just as interesting as the tournament itself is the news that New Japan will debut its two latest rookies! Takaaki Watanabe, the most recent debutant (last year), faces newcomers Sho Tanaka and Yohei Komatsu over the two shows. Both of these are smaller sized wrestlers which is quite interesting as New Japan traditionally asks for taller guys but these two are definitely below the 180cm height requirement New Japan would ask for not so long ago. New Japan also has a very tall American called Gaylon Summers in the dojo who isn’t far away from debuting. Some info on both of the new kids:

    Sho Tanaka
    Age: 23 (August 27th, 1989)
    Height: 5’8″ (173cm)
    Weight: 205lbs (93kg)
Information: Extensive amateur wrestling background with achievements in All Japan University Greco Roman Championships and other events. Joined New Japan in February, 2012.

    Yohei Komatsu
    Age: 24 (June 25th, 1988)
    Height: 5’8″ (171.5cm)
    Weight: 187lbs (85kg)
Information: Graduated Toyo University Faculty of Law but is no David Otunga as he pursued amateur wrestling throughout high school and university for 7 years. Joined New Japan in February, 2012.

Definitely seems like New Japan is really taking strides to push aside the Jr. barrier. Makes sense, since smaller, high flying heavyweights like Tanahashi and Naito have gotten so over.

Agreed. Especially since the Intercontinental one doesn't really seem to have any particular purpose.

CHAOS top two Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada have decided not to team up in New Japan’s first ever World Tag League, the sequel to the long-standing G1 Tag League. The two came to the decision because they quite simply believe it’d make the tournament too one-sided as they’d win it easily, so will opt for different partners to make it more challenging. Nakamura and Okada have teamed three times so far, beating Tanahashi & Naito on 1/29 and Suwama & Shuji Kondo on 7/1, but recently losing in something of an upset to Goto & Anderson on 9/7.

NJPW “~SUPER JR. TAG TOURNAMENT SEMI FINAL & FINAL~”, 11/2/12 (Asahi Newstar)
    Tokyo Korakuen Hall
    1,800 Fans

    1. Super Jr. Tag Tournament – Semi Final: KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley beat TAKA Michinoku Kaientai Dojo & Taichi (8:13) when Shelley pinned TAKA after the Midnight Automatic.
    2. Super Jr. Tag Tournament – Semi Final: Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi beat Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov (9:19) when Taguchi used the Dodon on Koslov.
    3. Low Ki, Brian Kendrick, Jado & Gedo beat Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask, Negro Casas & BUSHI (11:26) when Ki used a diving footstomp on BUSHI.
    4. Togi Makabe & Wataru Inoue beat Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka (8:50) when Inoue used a German suplex hold on Iizuka.
    5. Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr. beat Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata (13:16) when Archer used the Killer bomb on Tenzan.
    6. Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuchika Okada, Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI beat Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto, Manabu Nakanishi, Karl Anderson & Captain New Japan (16:22) when Ishii used a brainbuster on Captain.
    7. Super Jr. Tag Tournament – Final: KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley beat Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi (16:42) when KUSHIDA pinned Taguchi after the I-94.

    * “Time Splitters” KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley wasted no time in earning a second shot at Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov’s IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title by winning the Super Jr. Tag Tournament in today’s finale at Korakuen. They overcame Suzuki-gun’s TAKA & Taichi in their semi final while Apollo 55 defeated the champions in the other to show they also meant business. And so it came down to two fan favourite teams as Devitt & Taguchi faces KUSHIDA & Shelley in an exciting final. But it was the newer team who triumphed as on a big day for him KUSHIDA pinned Taguchi following the I-94. The winners immediately challenged Forever Hooligans for a title shot on 11/11 in Osaka and that is certain to take place.

    * New Japan announced that it’s popular collaboration with Mexican giants CMLL will expand in 2013! “FANTASTICA MANIA 2013″ will run over three shows next January instead of two after the concept has been such a success so far.

    NEWS. Via keepthespiritalive.tumblr.com

[NJPW News] New Japan had quite a bit of news and information released today, so bear with me as I try to break it all down.

    1. Takaaki Kidani announced that he is resigning from his position as chairman of New Japan Pro Wrestling. Kidani wanted to announce this news ahead of time to the public, and nothing will happen until the Shareholders meeting this September.
This is not to be taken a negative things as Kidani seems to be wanting to spend more time working with Bushiroad.
Kidani stated that he has been met with both positive and negative feedback throughout the last year, and it seems the negative is why he has chosen to take a step back from the position. It seems to mainly come with the recent use of Sakuraba and Shibata. It seems Kidani will remain as the active sharehold owner of the promotion, but he wants to step down from the position of power. He will still aid New Japan in the future.

    2. New Japan also announced that they will be introducing their own English based website in the near future. Of course with this announcement, I will officially announce that I will more than likely cease to post New Japan related information as their website will be the place to go. There is no reason for me to just copy and paste any information that they have posted originally. I am not, and never will be a copy and paste site. If there is no reason for translations needed them I my work is done with NJPW. Granted, we will see what kind of information they plan on providing first before I ultimately make that decision.
No word as of yet to when they will introduce the official English based website, but they also announced that a Spanish version is also in the works.

    3. With the announcement of the new sites, New Japan also pointed out to some info to the global expansion. Many different places were mentioned from Europe, Mexico, Korea, Latin America, and Italy to name a few, but it seems they are really wanting to push towards a true global expansion. Nakamura was also on hand as the reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion and stated that is willing to defend the belt anywhere.

    4. There was an announcement that Bushiroad will be creating their own Tokusatsu (Superhero) show in the near future, along with a new card game called “Bound Monsters”. It seems that many New Japan wrestlers will be involved in this new venture that will see production beginning this spring. From what I gather Okada will be one of the early co-stars for the show. If someone has any more information on this please feel free to contact me. *information will be below.

    5. New Japan announced the main upcoming big events that will be taking place in the future.
Bushiroad will be releasing a new update to the KOPW card game with the title of “INVASION ATTACK” this Spring on April 14th. Along with this, they will also be hosting an event under the same name on April 7th called “INVASION ATTACK” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan. Minoru Suzuki, Yoshihiro Takayama, Masakatsu Funaki, Akebono, and Kazushi Sakuraba were names that have been mentioned to be apart of the new set, and it could be an early indication that they could be involved on the show as well.
Wrestling Dontaku will follow suit on May 3rd, and then DOMINION in June as the main PPV’s announced at this time. The G1 CLIMAX returns again this year with 2 announced dates, at this time, at the Ryogoku Kokugikan on August 10th and 11th.

Then they also announced that “WRESTLE KINGDOM VIII” will be held next year.

I really am hugely excited about New Japan's continued growth all over the place, and I'm even more glad to hear that their money man is just giving up day to day control and not pulling out altogether.

Forgive my You know what would be awesome? Is if NJPW ran a show over here in the UK,in the states also,if they are going for global expansion that would be a natural step surely?

They ran a show in the States in Jersey a year or two ago in conjunction with Jersey All Pro. I don't know if they have any plans for the UK, but it wouldn't surprise me if they get a foothold in Europe.

So Tanahashi won Wrestler of the Year, Worker of the Year, Feud of the Year, and Match of the Year. Okada won Feud of the Year, Most Improved, and Move of the Year. Minoru Suzuki won Match of the Year. Jado and Gedo won Bookers of the Year. King of Pro Wrestling won Show of the Year. New Japan won Promotion of the Year. That is the New Japan Observer Award haul for 2012.

Wait; Bushiroad is getting a Tokatsu series that will involve New Japan wrestlers? Which probably means Tanahashi will be involved because he is a huge Tokatsu nerd?

    Thank you New Japan.

So I'm just guessing but does the fact that NJPW wants to use Sakuraba's name for their new card game does that mean they've decided not to release him?

That post made me finally get around to watching the match. Pretty goddamn amazing. Loved it.

Not sure how many STARS I'd give it, but it's probably the best match I've seen from 2012. Granted, I haven't seen many.

My favorite thing about the match was Tanahashi high fly flowing Suzuki's leg, because Suzuki was sitting upright. I love the psychology of doing your off the top rope finisher onto someone's limb for insane damage to it, but 99% of the time they could just.. you know.. hit the finisher normally. As a finisher. And like.. win the match. But Tanahashi didn't choose the leg over the body. He hit the leg because it was the only thing he could hit and it made sense.

Loved the insane amounts of slapping as well.

Prince Devitt has challenged Tanahashi to make their match on 3/3 for the IWGP Heavyweight Title. Jushin Liger and Tiger Mask challenged the Time Splitters and Kushida accepted.

Absolutely! That's New Japan's biggest show of the year, and is being lauded as one of the best wrestling shows of all time. It has familiar faces like MVP, Shelton Benjamin and Low Ki, and the main event is the biggest feud of the year. Go for it.

Awesome, well i wont get round to it till tomorrow but i will give it a watch, the only thing that worries me is that the commentary is Japanese so i wont really be able to follow storylines, whos who etc, though i guess the actual wrestling will speak for itself.

Well if you're willing to wait a few days, Frosty and my review of that very event will be up to help you follow the storylines.

Yeah, a lot of people have trouble with that. You'll find out pretty quickly if it bothers you too much to get into things. But the wrestling does speak for itself, and the promo videos are very good at giving you the general idea of things even if you don't know the words.

A few of New Japan's finest with MVP speaking English (or attempting to). Okada doesn't have anything to say to TNA. Shinskay sounds so strange.

Hey guys. Do you like New Japan but hate the language barrier and lack of subtitles? Well, New Japan just launched a magazine show to cover all the goings on around the promotion and it is subtitled right the hell up. This one features a great interview with Hiroshi Tanahashi going into the G1 Climax Series, so give it a watch!

That's months old and a fan was the one who translated it. Actually the same fan was translating the commentary during the show today.

Yeah, I meant to add that it was old. But it's still neat to be able to see insight into the shows and what people are saying. Does the guy have a Youtube?

I've been doing some catch-up on NJPW since I haven't watched much since the middle of last year. Saw Wrestle Kingdom, then I just finished watching Dominion a few days ago and am now going through Kizuna Road Day 2(watched the couple matches from Day 1 outside the main event that I really wanna see). Next, I'm going through the important shows of G1 Climax, hopefully in time to be on time with the final. I'd order the iPPV, but I won't have 30 bucks to spare on short notice.

Anyway, from there I plan on keeping up with everything, but are there any other shows between WK and Dominion that I should take my time out to watch? I know Dontaku was the start of the Goto/Shibata thing, but unless the match is the best of the three, I'm not bothered going back, but if there's anything definitely worth, then I'll gladly go back.
