For anyone who enjoys documentaries about musicians, this one is pretty decent.

I've been wanting to see the documentary about the brothers that recreate films on a homemade basis. Looked fun and I can't remember the name.

This aired on BBC4 last night. Incredibly detailed but fascinating viewing for anyone with an interest in US Civil Rights.

Brutal, great storyline and utterly fascinating. Same producers as Senna & Amy, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.

Just watched An Open Secret. No wonder that movie never got distribution; it's incredibly damning. I predict that we'll have be having more than a few Jimmy Saville-like scandals in the near future. Hollywood is a cesspool.

Bryan Singer is a vile piece of shit. He's a cretin among cretins.

Care to elaborate? I remember when 'X-Men Days of Future Past' came out there were some claims, but that seemed to oddly coincide with the release of his movie and I felt like it was there to damage his reputation rather than be an actual lawsuit. What happened to that case? Wikipedia says that Singer proved he wasn't in Hawaii (where the alleged rape took place) and the court case was withdrawn.

It also felt to me that because he was a gay man it was much easier to make him out to be a monster. Where as if it had been a straight man fooling around with younger, but of age females, no-one would have batted an eyelid.

Singer runs with known pedos. He also has a ton of power and money and he can easily make problems go away. Even these cretins get caught, they serve drastically reduced sentences. Don't kid yourself - Singer's a piece of shit.

Do some legwork and find the documentary.

    Tickled (2016)

I've been following the Tickled documentary for about a month now and things really got heated during a screening in LA. So the film follows some reporters' decent into a nationwide porn business that involves... tickling. Post screening, the individual running the whole thing had heated words for the filmmakers and it was all caught on video. Telling them to learn from their experiences and lawyer up. Like holy shit.

This went from intriguing to fucking captivating. I can't wait to watch this movie.

Watch the entire exchange here::: http://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/tickled-...hes-screening/

Both of them are repugnant pieces of low-life shit. Hollywood is indeed the epicenter for child fucking... it makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like a theme park ride at Disneyland.

another disgusting monster is Victor Salva-- director of The Jeepers Creepers franchise... he raped one of the child actors on-set of one of his earlier films-- 'Clownhouse'... he even filmed it... he only served fifteen months in prison for it. The fact that he went on to make the pedophilia-tinged movie- "Powder"-- and the subsequent "Jeepers Creepers" films(with a third installment on it's way soon) just goes to show what a morally corrupt place Hollywood really is.

I loved the movie "Clownhouse" when I was younger... It was freaky as hell... but after knowing that that poor child actor was raped during filming completely turned me off from it.

People still defend Roman Polanski because "the judge went back on his word" or some shit. Okay... and? Polanski is still a vile piece of shit that drugged and raped a 13 year-old.

Yet people still suck his cock.

drugging and raping kids in a jacuzzi is the "IN" thing to do within the Hollywood circle.

hopefully that entire area engulfs in flames soon. I used to live there and see some off-the-wall shit go down on the street... Which obviously paled in comparison to what the wealthy celebrities were doing behind closed doors.

to think that a lot of people look-up to and worship these motherfuckers is startling.

as for Roman, supposedly there might be an arrangement made between The US and Poland to extradite him so he can face charges. but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Besides, it's already been damn near 40- years since the incident took place.

California is beautiful for the most part, though.

Elijah Wood recently said that he would have been preyed upon if his mother hadn't kept a strong eye on him while he was a child actor. It's good to hear that there are some parents who aren't willing to whore out their kids.

It is... Especially the Pacific Northwest-- that's where I live now.

too bad scientists just discovered how truly fucked the San Andreas fault line is... what a way to go.

Not to mention the fault lines that run through Northern California that will dwarf the San Andreas earthquake by more than 2-points on the Richter scale.

Poor Corey haim... Corey Feldman claims that he was passed back and forth between the pedophiles of Hollywood like a bag of Oreos.

certainly explains his drug addiction that ultimately took his life.

He apparently has a fetish for children's feet... Yummy.
He always films creepy scenes where the focus is on their bare feet being tickled, etc... very odd behavior.

He will always be Ricky from "Better Off Dead" to me.

"Gee, sorry your mom blew-up, Ricky."

Anyone watched 'Kung Fu Elliot' on UK Netflix?

It's listed as a Documentary, but there is a lot of discussion online about whether or not it's fake. I bought into in the whole way through until the final sequence.

The other reason that makes me think it's fake, is that there is no evidence of the guy's previous films online. I really want to watch 'They Killed my Cat'.

Way to taint the last page with paedo talk lads.

Just watched I Am Chris Farley, a very gentle film about such a nice guy. You can really tell that David Spade took years to get over that dude. Give it a shot if you're into nice documentaries.

They still have to take that first drink or first drag. They are making the choice.

And they know their inherent susceptibility? They're taking a drink/drag not unlike any other person on the planet. It's not choosing addiction.

Genetically yes but then it's my fault if I choose to go out and drink to excess isn't it? To begin with my body doesn't tell me I have to go out and get wasted, my mind either. The only thing that has an impact on that is desire. if I wanted a beer I'd go have one but I'd also know that it would be fully my own issue if I followed that beer up with twelve more.

There's a difference between having a genetic inclination and having a physical addiction. If you are born without addiction but have it in your family history it still takes you going out and boozing to kindle your own actual addiction. That makes the end result your own fault because you should have known better. Even if you have no idea what your family history is it would still be your own fault because you went out of your way to imbibe a known intoxicant to excess. That's a conscious decision that your body cannot make for you and so there really is only one person to blame.

I've said this to other idiots that preach on and on about alcoholism being a disease because it's not and they are obviously morons.

Where does desire come from? Is that a conscious choice? Of course not.

Gobs of people drink to excess and go on about their following days just fine. Those that don't don't go into it thinking that they'll just cross that addictive bridge when they get to it. They say it won't happen to them. If you want to point a finger at them for that then ok. Like I said though, that goes in the face of the many who pull it off just fine.

What makes one's will stronger than someone else's? I know looking back on my problems with addiction I didn't blame anyone else. I also know I couldn't really slow the train down. It was one that at the time I just knew I could steer. My judgement was clouded and the thinking wasn't clear. Surely that was part substance, but what other part was it. Again, it wasn't simply choosing freely and consciously to continue spiraling.

I agree that the only person that can do anything about an addiction is the addict themselves. I've said that repeatedly. But whether or not one is more prone than someone else to it isn't chosen. No one says, 'boy addiction sure looks a peach, let me take that for a spin'. It chooses them. And I wouldn't call it a disease either. I've never made that distinction. I don't know what to call it categorically. Not any more than just the human condition. I'm certainly not oblivious enough to call it a conscious choice.

desire comes from experience, you cannot desire alcohol unless you have tried it and yes it absolutely is brought about by a conscious choice.

That's fair. And it's still not labeling addiction in and of itself as a choice.

this Open Secret documentary is garbage, no wonder people ignored it, it's just a bunch of chopped up interviews that flit from one accusation to the next. Why would you try and mix a factual documentary about child sex abuse for entertainment purposes?

Jesus Christ what a load of shite.

I watched 'The Fall: Decker v Budd' last night. It reminded me of a good '30 for 30' documentary. It was directed by the same guy that directed the recent 'Hillsborough' Documentary.

About two women that ran the 3,000m event in the 1984 Olympics.

It's currently available on Sky On Demand in the UK.

What is it with people in here exaggerating what they do?

Good luck Brotown but the thread title is very misleading.

I had to Wiki that for details and I'm now reading a theory about an owl that seems to hold water in the experts eyes.

I really need to see more documentaries. I'm needing to see Wolfpack and that one about tickling.

It wasn't ignored. It only had a handful of screenings, but even then it was praised by the majority of critics that saw it. The accusations made in the film were substantiated. Do you really not think there's a problem with children being sexually abused in Hollywood? Is the Catholic church on the up and up as well? I have no clue how you're getting that the film was made for entertainment purposes.

What I'm saying is that it is obviously true but that it is produced as if the facts are a cliffhanger. The best documentaries are editted better than that, often sparingly on the key parts whereas this was hard to follow and a bit tawdry.

Well, to each their own. I feel like we watched two different films. I don't think it presented the facts as a cliffhanger, it's just that this is a problem with no end in sight.

'I Am Big Bird' on Netflix. Biography on Caroll Spinney aka Big Bird from Sesame Street. Dial it up and prepare to be inspired and maybe do some crying. Legend.

I watched half of it last night, gonna watch the other half tonight. It was interesting. I said on Twitter, it's like a modern history lesson that covers a range of subjects but somehow manages to tie them all together. Really well made. The only other stuff I've seen of Adam Curtis' was his stuff with Charlie Brooker. Are there any other previous documentaries that you'd recommend from him?

New doc on Netflix. Interesting to watch - lacked a bite though, but probably given the nature of who was making it and how they were involved in it, it must be hard to fully interrogate what happened.

I watched this one last week. Solid doc on how easy it could be to join a cult. Like at the start when they're all young and attractive and just having a blast in the forest, I'd be well up for that.

Yeah, it was quite interesting. I think that explores another level of manipulation, although it was only descriptive of it and didn't attempt to explain it.

How much of Jonestown is drama Clive? It's on my list but I've avoided it so far for this reason, I'm worried it might be a bit too Channel 5?

    Not sure if it's the same one I watched. Didn't realise it was part drama. This was the one I've watched and can recommend;

Good doc on Netflix by Herzog, although it's pretty much a mish-mash of previous Volcano docs, it's still pretty spectacular to watch.

I don't know which of you have seen the short documentary "American Juggalo" but the director has made a second one. It's such an immensely captivating look into Juggalo life even though it's so brief. I've known Juggalos and they've all been the same. Unintelligent... dirty... loud... and overall unpleasant. Their mission statement when it comes to living as a Juggalo is so broad and generically directionless it's almost mind boggling at how stupid a human can get. They call themselves outcasts, the ones that society rejected, when in reality... they're just losers. I couldn't imagine a deeper pit of hell than being stuck next to one of these morons, rapping and yelling about fucking nothing. Their lifestyles preaches peace and love, but they leave the stench of smoke and garbage in their wake.

The Century of the Self was what first turned me on to him, really good stuff about the promotion of individualism.

Bitter Lake is similar to Hyper.

Jim: The James Foley Story -
Bleak viewing. It does a great job at building up a sense of who James Foley is/was before the awful murder at the hands of ISIS. Perhaps a bit more about his decision making process would have been interesting, but it's pretty harrowing stuff.

Sherpa - It's an interesting documentary, but there have been so many mountain documentaries recently, it's hard to maintain interest. Easy to watch though.

PRESCRIPTION THUGS is filmmaker Chris Bell's (Bigger Stronger Faster) hard-hitting and thought-provoking expose of Big Pharma, its marketing practices and their impact on the staggering level of addiction to prescription drugs in North America.

It's almost hard to imagine this kind of thing actually exists. Of course religion is a baseless and shit idea, and so then in the hands of cowardly and sociopathic dipshits like this I guess it becomes no fucking wonder.

Just scores of lives ruined, wasted. Ugh.

Witch Hunt - Worth a watch for anyone into the whole 'what the fuck'/'how the fuck' type of criminal justice and imprisonment documentaries out there.

OJ - Made in America - 5 episodes, each one 90+ minutes long, one of the best documentaries I've ever seen.

Forever Pure - Racism in football documentary, specifically focussing on Beitar Jerusalem FC. Very interesting.

Shadow of Truth is on UK Netflix. I'd highly recommend, it's 4 episodes and it's similar to The Jinx, Making a Murderer and The Staircase.

A four part documentary mini-series that examines the mysterious murder case of Tair Rada, an Israeli high-school girl who was found brutally murdered in her school's toilets during an ordinary day.

2 episodes in. It's pretty draining viewing, namely because of the content. I feel worn down much in the same they're wearing everyone else down.

Certainly see the comparisons between this and the others you mentioned, although this is less investigative, and more of a narrative. Doesn't detract from how interesting it is though - when a new twist or bit of info is revealed, it's quite tense.

Aye, I love how the first episode sets up a certain explanation and then the second episode completely untangles everything that the first episode set up. I've still to watch the last two episodes as well.

'Notes on Blindness' is on BBC FOUR tonight at 9PM.

In the summer of 1983, just days before the birth of his first son, writer and theologian John Hull went blind. In order to make sense of the upheaval in his life, he began keeping a diary on audiocassette. Upon their publication in 1990, Oliver Sacks described the work as 'the most extraordinary, precise, deep and beautiful account of blindness I have ever read. It is to my mind a masterpiece.' Oooh, that's out quick. I've been wanting to see that for a while.

I'm trying to watch more documentaries this year, I started with The Guv'nor, the film about East End Bareknuckle fighter Lenny McLean. I used to quite like reading about this type of stuff when I was a kid, so know quite a lot about the likes of McLean, Roy Shaw, The Krays, Charles Bronson, Mad Frankie Fraser, all that lot. Very little of that stuff has made it to the screen in a way that properly gets under the fingernails of the characters, if anything the 1990's film with the Kemp brothers did much more than the Tom Hardy film Legend from last year. The Guv'nor is another that fits into that mould. Completely glamourises that world, is very much a love note to the film's central character, does very little to dig into the depths of it, other than archive footage and a tiny insight right at the end into the reputation of the character it offers very little at all. Lenny McLean was a very interesting larger than life character who was deeply involved in an incredibly murky, but undoubtedly fascinating time of recent London history and this film did very little to explore any of that. Nor was it a particularly interesting character study, just a son (who frankly needs to grow out of his Dad's shadow a bit), waxing lyrical about what a great guy his Dad was and preteding that he's cut from the same cloth.

    Load of shit.

I watched the first half yesterday but didn't have time to finish it. It was all a bit odd but I get the feeling that watching the rest may help obviously. Does it have a 'conclusion'?

Finished it too last night. Good miniseries. I'd say probably 8/10.

I've been watching that OJ Documentary this weekend. I've watched 6 hours, got 90 mins left.

It is seriously one of the best things I've ever watched. So in-depth and detailed. Glad to hear it won the Academy Award last night.

I thought after watching American Crime Story last year, I'd have OD'd on OJ. But no, I'm just as interested as ever in that whole event.

Can't stress enough how good it is.

The entire 8 hours are on BBC iPlayer for the next 4 weeks I think.

I started rewatching OJ:MIA over the weekend, and it's definitely my favorite documentary. The whole thing is a masterpiece and there are a lot of parts that make me mad, but there is one part in particular that pisses me off something awful. It's at the beginning of the trial when they're going over OJ's abusive relationship w/ Nicole, and the one old lady juror says she loses respect for any woman that takes an ass whoopin' that didn't deserve it.

Like what the fuck is that supposed to mean? I swear I wanted to put her head through a wall when she said that. So what if her daughter or granddaughter was walking home and some jackhole beat the shit out of her? Would you lose respect for them as well? Just makes no sense. Old twat.

Finished it last night. One massive great American Tragedy.

Sounds like a few years after the trial he just stopped giving a fuck. Although he never went to jail for the murders, I think the toll of the crime definitely affected his mental state and you can see how much it had changed him in the later footage. He definitely developed ticks and strange personality traits.

I definitely think I will rewatch this documentary again in the near future.

Thanks for mentioning it being on BBC iPlayer Marlon. Watched the whole thing twice now. Super-fascinating and incredibly well presented. I was surprised at all the public support for O.J. at the time. Amazing how the defence team were allowed to completely reverse roles to become their own victim and put the LAPD on trial instead of O.J.. No doubt the LAPD absolutely needed to be taken to account, and that was never going to happen legitimately on it's own, but it's pretty disgusting how they hijacked a double-murder case for this purpose, and it's another worrying example of a public willing to overlook relevant logic and become susceptible to a charismatic demagogue.

    Bloody loved the music too.

Released on Netflix this week. Very good. About 50% Hulk Hogan case and 50% on the media in general. Worth a watch.

I thought it was a garbage puff piece designed to make Gawker look like they weren't an unethical shit rag. Peter Thiel is a nutcase, but Gawker got what they deserved.

Also, David Bixenspan might be the ugliest mother fucker on the planet.

The documentary really races by whether or not video of Hulk Hogan having consensual sex with his friend's wife is of public interest. Public interest in what way? Terry Bollea played something similar to a cartoon character in a wrestling promotion in the 80's. The interest is "point and laugh at this C or D list celebrity in a private moment". There's no vital information, and the video was released illegally. We aren't talking about Woodward and Bernstein here.

I thought it did make Gawker look like shit? Maybe I've misinterpreted it. They released a private video without his consent, and he took them to the cleaners. They can try and defend it, but all it did was highlight how awful they are.

The final piece around secret funding of news outlets was interesting too. As a mindless, easy watching documentary, I thought it served it's purpose.

I thought the intention was to make Gawker look noble in some way. Like, "these guys were the brash outlaws of journalism, MAAAAAAAN!" My eyes were constantly rolling. I value journalism and real investigative reporting, but to try and link that with Gawker is ridiculous.

I turned it off after 30 minutes. They seemed to be trying to make Gawker looks like serious investigative journalists just doing their job.

I am Heath Ledger. Gives some good insight into a man I really didn't know anything about, and probably assumed more than I should have based on the ending to his story. I'd probably have like a bit more detail on his life post TDK, but the ending is very well shot and makes up for it pretty easily.
