Those saves from Valdes were unreal a few minutes ago.

I don't think anyone predicted Pep would fit all the midfielders in like this but fair play it's working.

The day he fields an entire team of 5'7" attacking midfielders draws closer. Lovely goals.

Barca only playing one recognised defender is superb. It somehow still works brilliantly.

Great saves from Valdes there too.

Just too good. Fabregas has gone into the team like he never left. World class player. Happy for him.

It's very depressing how the top sides in England and Spain have stroked aside their nearest league challengers at the start of this season. Maybe it'll change as the season progresses but it doesn't look very nice.

I like Guardiola's idea, however, of seeing a team playing one up front as a chance to take a player out of defence and in to midfield.

Real Madrid were very, very good last night too, but this Barca team is just something else.

Villareal are probably the 3rd or 4th best team in Spain. It's absurd how easily Barca brushed them aside. There's basically 2 big league games a season now in Spain, and even then one of those was a whitewash last year. It's hard to criticise those teams for being so good but it's becoming the SPL.

Sevilla's chairman has been having a whinge about this and he's right. "Our league is not the biggest crap in Europe, but the world' and he complained about Barca and Madrid's TV domination.

I didn't see it, only saw the result. What happened? Barca's defence looks potentially very fragile, were there calamities?

Yeah horrendous backpass by Villa then Busquets tried to slap the ball off the line but only managed to palm it onto the bar and out to their player who scored, thus avoiding a red card. I don't think the defence looked particularly bad, just lacked a bit of organisation maybe. They'll look as good as ever with Puyol or Pique back.

I didn't realise how much of a tank Alexis Sanchez is. Massive.

Injuries are racking up for Barca. Sanchez out for two months, Iniesta a month, Pique and Puyol still unfit... Real must be licking their lips because I suspect this is the only way they'll have any chance to break the dominance.

    8-0

Messi hat trick, Villa twice, Cesc, Xavi and an OG.

From what I watched, it could have been about 14 or 15 if it wasn't for their keeper, who actually didn't have a bad game.

He's a crazy man. Not sure what to make of the new formation either. Watched their game with Palermo last week and the back three were rubbish. Zanetti, Lucio and Samuel with a combined age of about 310 and they looked it. Haven't been impressed with Nagatomo, Obi or Jonathan in the all important wing back positions either.

With everyone fit though they will probably go:

    Cesar

    Ranocchia - Lucio - Chivu

    Maicon - Cambiasso - Zanetti/Stankovic - Nagatomo

    Forlan - Sneijder

    Milito/Pazzini

Watching Napoli/Milan now. Bloody good game. Napoli have just gone up 2-1, excellent counter attacking football. Two class finishes from Cavani.

EDIT: And Levante are beating Real now for fuck sake

Inter/Novara on in the background. Novara's first Serie A home game in 55 years and they're winning 2-0 now. Inter are utter utter shit. Looks like Gasperini is going to be sacked already. Doomed from the start. Mad man.

Aye, great moment. I've been to Novara a few times. Odd little place, they were in Serie C only 2 years ago.

    Finished 3-1.

    Goodbye Gasperini.

Interesting. All over Twitter now of course. The new system hasn't worked at all, but almost all of their veteran defensive players have suddenly looked dodgy as fuck. Napoli's constant movement and counter attacks were too much for Milan's old men on Sunday, and I think they'll probably do the same to Inter.

Real Madrid have just drawn 0-0 away to Racing Santander. Bit of a crap, niggly game from what I've seen of the second half. That kid Raphael Varane who United were going to sign in the summer played. Didn't have much to do but he looks a big horse of a man at 18 years old.

    Valencia vs. Barcelona coming up.

Yeah that was shite, two very poor results for Real Madrid. Interesting to hear Xabi Alonso say Mourinho knows he was wrong to do what he did at the Charity Shield thing, or words to those effect.

1-1 already, maybe not. Lovely goal.

Bloody hell, 2-1 Valencia. Barca's defence is shite and both goals have come down the right side of their defence. Dani Alves' unfettered attacking play does give teams an option to get down there, they just tend not to be able to get the ball enough to do it, but it would be interesting if more teams managed to work out how to do that this season.

Valencia were relentless down that left hand side in the first half, great decision from Emery to play Mathieu AND Alba - would seem it worked very well. Could have gone up 3-1 at that point.

Yeah they destroyed Barca down that side repeatedly. On the other hand, Barca opened them up a few times as well. Messi set up both Barca's goals with brilliant passes and almost created a winner with an absurd reverse pass in a crowded penalty area that didn't even look on from far away. No idea how he spotted it. I can't remember who he put in one on one but the keeper saved it anyway, but it's a side of Messi's game you don't see too often as he usually plays off the midfield and they look for him running in behind. He is an unbelievable footballer, he has everything.

Messi is a bastard. He turned down a £2.5m move to my Southend side in Football Manager last night. He's 34 and not getting a game - might as well spend an Indian Summer on the Essex Riviera instead.

Successive hat tricks for Falcao at Atletico. Still can't believe nobody else went in for him at the same price as Andy Carroll. Wish we'd used the Cesc money to get him.

The only other clubs with €47m to spend have all stocked up on strikers though. Can't see where he'd fit in at Real, Barca, City, United or Chelsea.

Also his first goal last night was an own goal. Great start for him though, and another clean sheet for our lad THIBAUT.

" The Portuguese club said in a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange that the price tag could rise to €47m, depending on unspecified factors."

So yeah, assuming it does rise to that fee of course.

Well my point is we had the initial £35m or eventual £38m or whatever available to us. So did the likes of Malaga and PSG of course, just surprised nobody else was in for him.

Barca vs Atletico was meant to be a good game between two teams on form but Barca are just taking the piss again.

Just watching the highlights now. I was looking forward to it too, but it was surprisingly an absolute walkover for Barcelona. I thought it would be a close game, especially with Barca's recent defensive problems. Villa alone should have had a hat-trick, who looked far more at home in a central attacking role, I might add. Messi could have had another two or three goals as well. Ridiculous.

Julio Baptista scored an injury time bicycle kick to complete Malaga's comeback vs. Getafe and take them to the top of the table. Class.

Also enjoy Napoli pissing all over Inter in the San Siro.

Yeah would be great fun and make things a bit more interesting. Wonder if Tevez would go there. One of the few clubs which could afford him and I would have thought his stupid family might be able to manage the Andalusian sun for a while.

Hamstring tear surprise surprise. He only played something like 60% of the games for us in the last two seasons. Maybe that's why we only got 60% of his true value.

In fact he said they've spoken to Neymar and they're ready to pay his release clause. I guess Carlos will be a draw for him but he seems sensible and I'm not sure he'd go there.

Yes, in the sense that he could have moved by now for big money but has decided he is too young and is already earning a decent wage and would rather stay with his family and friends than move abroad too early.

But that could just as easily have as much to do with Santos and/or his crazy agent, no? Neymar is constantly blabbering about this club and that club. It's his dream to play for Real, no Barca, no he loves England, money doesn't matter, staying at Santos, etc. He can't seem to make his mind up, and I'm not sure that's helped him thus far, not to mention that some of his on pitch antics paint him as anything but sensible.

Not that it really matters. The guy knows he's destined for big things whatever silliness goes on.

He has a release clause that has been matched, no? If he wanted to go then he could have gone. He may have made these quotes but he's still at Santos which is obviously the important thing and he's never really looked like leaving to date. He's going to make such quotes to keep in the press and maintain a presence in the market but they are largely looking to the future.

I don't always buy into it that what he does on the pitch should reflect what his mindset is like off it. Competitiveness makes people strange. Anyway, my sensible comment was to do with where he may or may not move and he's proven me right by still being in Brazil where he's admitted he's happy.

Neymar doesn't sound too sensible. Vickery reckons he could be another Robinho: massively talented but with a problematic attitude. Last year he got Dorival sacked as Santos coach by throwing a massive hissy fit on the pitch when he was taken off penalty-duty (after missing a streak of penalties) and subsequently dropped for the ill-discipline. Neymar's strop worsened to the point that he got the coach fired because he couldn't accept being disciplined.

Sounds like a mental case. Obviously not very sensible but in fairness my comment was about the fact that he doesn't look like he'll move to the highest bidder.

    Big Higuain fan here.

And Levante ffs. Level with Barca on 17 points after beating Malaga 3-0 at home. Undefeated too. I seem to recall MichaelC really hoping they go down. Might have been Osasuna though.

So Barca draw at Bilbao (and only just!) which means Real move 3 points clear at the top. Barca still undefeated but they've drawn 4 games now.

Neymar signed a new contract with Santos and reckons he's staying in Brazil until the 2014 World Cup. So no moves to Real, Barca or Anzhi in January.
