Yep. Maynard is going to be a berzerker now I think, he was the best he has ever been against Edgar, he just fought a very special athlete.

I hope this is true and not the inevitable downslide I see coming for his next two fights.
Maynard has to have that thing in his head now where he was SMASHING a guy for multiple rounds each time he fought him since his intial win and each time he has fought him since that win he has come back stronger than Maynard could ever have dreamed.

Maynard/Edgar as a trilogy is one of the greatest of all time.

I just hope it didn't mentally drain Maynard too much.

He has to know he'll never be the champ now.

...all of this being said, I still think he will be the undoubted stronger starter in this fight with Guida.
Guida can take a beating though. Maynard can give one.

Maynard can do everything Guida can do and better. This fight doesn't look good for Clay I don't think.

That's exactly what people said about Frankie Edgar for the entire trilogy against Maynard mate.

People always write Frankie off though. I'm sure he'll be DA UNDADOOG against Bendo too.

Maynard can still fight Frankie again down the road, their series is still a tie. Obviously the knockout was a definitive conclusion, but there's been several rematches after a guy has been destroyed. It shouldn't happen anytime soon obviously, but if both men win 3 more, that theoretically takes out 6 contenders leaving basically themselves at the top.

A fourth fight is definitely possible but honestly I think one of them is going to change weight classes before that happens. Pure speculation on my end obviously but I'd imagine the brass isn't too interested in another fight based on the way that trilogy was delayed and finished.

So how should Johny Hendricks be rewarded for smashing the consensus #2 WW in the world in 12 seconds? Interrim title shot against Diaz/Condit winner or maybe #1 contenders fight vs Ellenberger should he beat Sanchez? I guess it all depends on GSP's recovery time.

Alexander Gustafsson will most likely headline the April 14 card here in Stockholm for his next fight. Who should he face?

Looking at the rankings the most suitable fights would be Diet Nog, Bader and Thiago Silva. Bader is already booked to fight Rampage in February so we can probably scratch him. Although, fighting again in April isn't impossible it's highly unlikely.

Alex/Diet Nog here in Sweden would be pretty huge.

He should definitely be a fight away from a title shot. He impressed the hell out of me last night but I think Ellenberger should get the next shot assuming he beats Diego (which he should).

Hendricks obviously needs a top 5 WW next though. Maybe Kos should he beat Pierce?

    Rich Franklin.

Just read the ''Matches to make after UFC 141'' article and they suggest Gustafsson/Lil Nog as well.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Tito Ortiz/Rich Franklin.

Reem/JDS will be awesome. No chance of going to the third round.

With Jon Fitch getting knocked out of contention (pun intended), the winner of Sanchez/Ellenberger has got to be a shoe-in for the 1st crack at the interim title.

Hendricks/MacDonald sounds great to me. Hendricks certainly arrived into the top 10, but he didn't leapfrog everybody above him quite yet.

Diaz/Maynard III sounds like a great fight to make, but I might do Diaz/J. Miller (assuming Jim beats Melvin) and Cerrone/Maynard.

    Hettes vs Korean Zombie please!

Gustaffson vs a returning Thiago Silva or maybe Brandon Vera. I think he's definitely earned a name, but I don't want him thrust into the deep end of 205 quite yet.

I don't even care for Gustaffson but Brandon Vera doesn't deserve to be anywhere near him. Elliot Marshall beat him in my eyes, he's bottom-tier.

Either Gustaffson vs Lil Nog or Gustaffson vs a bench press.

PS- I love Hendricks vs Rory Mac, assuming Mac gets past Che Mills (he should).

So then Mark, what's the beef with Gustafsson? Still that old Alex/Rich debate? Just curious.

Gustafsson/Vera is very unlikely for a number of reasons. They are training partners at Alliance MMA (along with Phil Davis) for starters. Brandon Vera/Igor Pokrajac or something similar sounds more likely. Gustafsson must be careful with putting on muscle, he already walks somewhere around 230 pounds. He doesn't look it but he is a pretty huge guy, I know since I have stood right next to him.

Hettes has quite a way to go before fighting Zombie me thinks. From what I have heard Jung is like one, or maybe two impressive wins away from fighting for the FW title. Hettes against someone like Diego Brandao maybe?

And yeah, Hendricks/R. McDonald sounds pretty cool.

Che Mills is no bum though, should be interesting.

/And not to be a wiseguy () or anything but it's Gustafsson, not Gustaffson. I see people all over the net writing it wrong. Not that it really matters, but yeah..

My top picks for Gustafssons next fight would be:

    > Diet Nog
    > Thiago Silva
    > Shogun Rua
    > Rich Franklin

Or if they feel he needs one more test before stepping in with the 'big boys':

    > Stephan Bonnar

    It's the love handles.

I dunno, the Franklin debate MAY have had something to do with it but I think the reason I'm not that quick to jump on his train yet is how I'm always seeing how he's the man to beat Jones. Can we say overhyped? Phil Davis handled him, an even more freakish wrestler with vast superior reach and standup to Davis would eat him for breakfast.

I know Gustafsson's good, don't get me wrong (you crazy Swedes and your spellings). But I don't think he's the world beater than so many people are carrying on about. Vlady was a good win but he did charge chin-up into a straight right. And he probably would beat Rich at this point in his career, but once he starts to tip the middle-upper top ten again he's going to get exposed.

Yeah, I would agree some people are getting a little carried away with him. I guess it's that he is the same age as Jones, similar in size (sans arms) and that they share some opponents (Hamill/Vladdy) which they both steamrolled. I think he's a great up-and comer but we will see when he get's in there with Bader/Nog/Shogun/Machida and company. Should be interesting.

Good thing is that Alex is not one of the people believing his own hype.

Who does Nate Diaz fight next to try to get to the title shot? Cerrone was a really big win for him, if you ask me it's the biggest win of his career AND the most impressive we've seen him. I would like to think that he will fight the winner of Maynard/Guida. Maybe Kenny Florian if he's moving back up to 155 or Sean Sherk if he ever comes back.

Sherk would be a bad stylistic matchup for Nate. I like the idea of Diaz/Florian though.

BJ's apparently talking mad shit on his twitter about Nick Diaz and Jon Fitch. What do you guys think on a scale of 1-10 the possibility of Fitch/Penn 2 happening in 2012 BEFORE the end of summer?

I think he'd walk through Kenflo and I actually like Kenny.

Sherk looked dodgy against Dunham's striking when it came into play.

Diaz is waaaaaaaaaaaay better a striker than Evan Dunham is. His takedown defence could use work but Sherk looks gassy after he gets hit for a round. Nick Diaz Vs Sean Sherk would be a fun fight easily.

I'm not sure how reliable of a source Big Nog is on this but he's apparantly saying Bigfoot Silva is making his UFC debut in April, against Cain Velasquez.

Tough test for Alex, will likely turn into a boxing match more or less. I like Gustafsson's chances here though.

I guess I didn't realize that the UFC offered Dan Henderson a rematch with either Lil Nog or Shogun for his next fight and he turned them down. I don't really blame him, he just beat Shogun-close fight but Dan won it for sure, and the Lil Nog fight was some time ago and Lil Nog really hasn't done enough to really warrant a shot with a guy who is possibly the next in line for a title shot against Jon Jones.

From what I've been reading there is a strong possibility we'll get Jones v. Hendo because he doesn't want to wait for the winner of Rashad/Phil Davis. Dude is a BEAST!!

    Akira Corassani/Jason Young

Are on for UFC: Sweden too.

I kind of like those fights. Pearson/Siver should be a nice scrap. Maybe Akira will get choked out and phantom tap again.

Pearson/Siver only happened recently, strange fight to make considering they fought at 155 already not so long ago in a fight that wasn't particularly close. Will be a good fight of course but I'm sure there's enough depth at 145 to make fresh fights.

Surprised Young got another shot, though I guess it's the definition of a filler fight.

Makes more sense, I was wondering why they'd do a Pearson/Siver rematch out of the blue.

Now that's a fight. You would think they might give the winner a title shot or at the very least a title eliminator, since Henderson got a shot off just a 3 fight streak against strong competition.

Seems like a title eliminator to me. Give the loser Clay Guida (I don't think he has another fight yet), and there are great possibilities abound regardless of who wins or loses coming up.

Clay's fighting Gray, I say the winners of these 2 fights=#1 contender to winner of Edgar/Bendo, and then the losers face off down the road.

Kind of like the two first fights. Not really interested in either MacDonald or Lawlor. Could be a loser-leaves-town fight for both of them. With a loss Lawlor will have lost 4 of his last five and MacDonald would be 1-3 in his second UFC stint.

I have a feeling there will be some trash talk going on between Silva and Vera.

Vera was handling dude on the feet and I remember thinking "Wow Silva is really really strong I've never seen anyone hold Vera down like this." I just figured it was because he was all healed up from back surgery but who knows. We'll find out, this will be a good show. Barry v. Johnson? Wild.

I remember the hype video for that fight and how Thiago was talking about how ever since his back surgery he was able to train @ 100% blah blah blah, they really did a solid job at basically saying he's going to look better, be stronger, because of the surgery. Then we find out he was taking the roids, and at first I was like "well maybe it had something to do with his recovery", I hate to automatically judge because as I've gotten older I've found out that there are times fighters/athletes test positive and it's not always 100% due to them trying to enhance their performance but to recover.

This fight means a lot to both men. It'd be a huge win for Vera's embarrassing career and a redemption for Thiago's half and half career.

This is the first step for Vera in attaining his goal of being the champion at LHW and HW, so naturally I'd expect him to be quite motivated.

The first step? Dude he's been on that first step since day one then because that's what he said after he won his first UFC fight and people were all like "OHHH I can't believe he's calling out Chuck Liddell" even showing Liddell in the crowd shaking his head in disbelief lol. Poor Vera, used to LOVE this guy.

I wouldn't. He's a great fighter, but his performances against everyone but Tito were not impressive. Beating Tito is not that impressive as it would've been when they first fought and Tito "won". Jones will be too much for him. Rashad will probably wind up looking like he did against Machida or get put to sleep with a brutal looking choke.

Just seeing how he handled Shogun and everyone else in the division, it's hard for me to really think anyone in the division could beat Jones.

    Kind of interesting.

Doesn't really care about Tito/Forrest III but it's the next best thing for Tito to ride off into the sunset after I guess. Read somewhere that he wanted Chuck to be his final fight but Forrest being ok too if that couldn't be done.

Guessing Cain/Mir will be on the next Fox card in LA?

I think Ortiz said he was hoping his last fight would be the Independence Day weekend event, so that would make the top 2 fights trilogies. Throw Stout vs. Fisher on there somewhere, maybe Sanchez vs. Koscheck (unofficially 1-1 since TUF fights don't count) as well! Dunno if there's many more outstanding fights where guys are 1-1 against each other.

Mir vs. Velasquez to me would make sense as the co-main for Dos Santos vs. Overeem on Memorial Day weekend. Cain will smash him to bits by the way.

Yeah, I was thinking it would co-main Reem/JDS too, makes perfect sense with the winners probably facing each other next. But damn, that's a lot of PPV money they will throw away. Guess it could be worth it in the long run though.

I like Cain better of course, but part of me has evil fantasies of Overeem splitting Frank's face in two via ÜBER KNEE for all the shit talk he's been doing.

Ok my bad.. Memorial Day = UFC 146 not Fox 3.

    Damn, that's soon..

    UFC 145 -> Evans/Bones
    UFC 146 -> Reem/JDS

He can do that after they both lose! I wonder who Werdum will get next, is Carwin still alive? There's a lot of jostling for position underneath the top 5 in that division, a 3 fight win streak and you're quids in for a decent fight! I would guess he'll face Kongo or Russow next, both are in good form.

So the title pictures are basically:

    JDS/Overeem vs. Cain/Mir
    Jones/Evans vs. Hendo
    Silva/Sonnen vs. Munoz or Belfort?
GSP/Condit with Ellenberger getting there next with another win
    Edgar/Henderson vs. Diaz/Miller
    Aldo vs. Zombie/Poirier?
Cruz/Faber vs. Barao with another win
    Benavidez/Urushitani vs. McCall/Johnson

So... 8 champs at the end of the year then?

I dunno. Smarter money would probably be on Cain but I've learned not to sleep on Frances. He's been on fire lately. And if he beats Cain surely he'll be next for JDS/Reem.

I'm pretty "meh" about Tito/Forrest III.

Yeah, but it's a pretty good fight for both of them at this point. Odds that either gets KTFO is probably around 0.1%, probably ends up in another SD after a fairly un-eventful fight. Most likely Tito's last, and by the sound of it Forrest is one or two away from hanging them up as well.

Ya I understand it and I agree with everything you said. Just don't really care about it.

    Me neither, for sure.

I guess some people do but it isn't exactly the most anticipated, exciting ending to a trilogy of all time. More AA/Tim than Chuck/Randy.

This is probably the most blah trilogy of all time.

Shammy/Ortiz III was kind of sad, since pretty much everyone knew Ken would get torn apart... Again. But, yeah I guess it did at least deliver some drama and violence. Their first fight in '02 was kind of exciting, for being a one-sided ass-whoppin' that is.

Sylvia/AA III was one of the worst fights I have ever seen but at least I and II had some very exciting finishes, with AA's heel hook and Timmah's come-from-behind KO.

So, yeah this could be one of the most overall boring trilogies ever.

I enjoyed the first Ortiz/Griffin fight. I don't know if it has any replay value, but at the time with Ortiz the top star in the industry then the reality TV guy puts up a hell of a fight, good drama. Don't remember much about part 2. Neither fight showed who was the better man though. I can see Forrest winning comfortably as we hear "he's back", then he can go and get eaten by Rampage.

Just thought, they should put friggin' Shogun vs. Machida III on that card too! Would love all main card bouts to be part 3, would be a laugh.

Also, looks like Torres vs. McDonald is on the prelims for UFC 145, even though the rest of the card bar Jones/Evans is horrible. They're really putting Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs above it.

ALSO Dustin Poirier vs. Korean Zombie on May 15th, main-event as well! Winner will surely get a title shot. Don't know if Aldo will sit out until September or so or if they give him the winner of Hioki/Bartimus before then. Either way, that fight is awesome.

Wouldn't mind if Rothwell/Schaub ended up on the prelims instead.

    Zombie/Poirier.

So for Condit's first title shot we could probably expect one of two people: The winner of Kos/Hendricks, or the winner of the upcoming Diego/Ellenberger fight. I personally would lean toward Diego/Ellenberger. History with Condit/Ellenberger, Diego's a beast who's barely lost would give Condit a great fight as well.

According to Helwani his manager says they've decided to wait for GSP. More power to Condit, he's earned that perogative.

Yeah but they said that just a week ago and then the next day were getting ready to finalize a rematch with Diaz.

I lik that one. Both guys have been dying for a top 10 opponent, so now they have each other.

Not a bad fight. Kinda expected them to give mayhem a tougher opponent as a lesson.. a maia or weidman or someone like that. Dolloway is probably the perfect choice. Tough, but not amazing.. known, but not famous.. middle of the pack

Huh? It's not like Barboza is some kind of mythical slaughterer of men, his 3 last opponents have had close fights with him and Dunham is significantly better than those guys I would have thought. A step up for both men really, should be interesting. If Dunham focuses on his wrestling he can win the fight.
