I HATE that line of thinking. It implies that Galvao gained his advantages based on the weight cut, and not his actual skill level. He almost finished the fight at the very beginning, so Warren hadn't had a chance to get tired yet.

Those big knees are KILLER to somebodys cardio.

I'm not taking anything away from Galvao, but Warren hasn't fought below 145 in 2 years .. why else do you think it was a catchweight? Cuz he's not totally comfortable at the weight yet. There's pretty much no other reason. No doubt that Galvao was taking it to him and that added to it for sure, but it just remined me of Kampmann/Shields when yeah, Kampmann was definitely taking it to him and giving him a reason to be tired, but you could just tell how tired the guy was anyway .. thats how it came across to me.

Bjorn Rebney has announced that Marcus Galvao has indeed been granted a slot in next season's bantamweight tournament. I still hope they match him up with Warren in the first round.

Undoubtedly. They should have saved this one for the card going against 129.

Well, in fairness .. the original headliner was pulled TODAY... not that Konrad/Buentello would've made it that much better, but there'd be some name-value anyway.

Ratings are in .. 199,000 tuned in for Bellator 42. That's up like 51% so thats good. I think MTV should promote them a little more than they are, to be honest. They've really been putting on some good shows this season.

Jay Hieron vs. Rick Hawn should be a great fight and I can't wait to see it.
Baker/Riggs is an interesting fight. I like Baker.
Always good to see THE VIKING.
Beebe/Vega could be a pretty good fight for real.

Lyman Good is injured and out of the Hornbuckle fight. Bellator is looking for a replacement fighter (Ben Saunders?).

Saunders makes a good replacement for a fight, but they want it to be a tourney-qaulifier and I think Saunders already qualified. .. maybe Waachim Spiritwolf??

    MTV2.

The Saunders/Lee fight was not a WW tourney-qualifier, just a one-off super fight.

Ahh I see .. I thought it was a qualifier. Even so, I think Saunders is a lock for the tourney and I bet they find someone else to fight with Horny.

Yeah, I definitely thought Hawn won the fight 29-28.

I gotta say that Jay Hieron has really (by no fault of his own) made himself look seriously mediocre in this tournament. He got a ridiculous NON-submission in the first round .. he just tells the ref that the guy is out and the ref belives him like WTF .. the guy was obviously NOT asleep. Horrible .. NOW this .. really not as impressed as I'd hoped to be. Huge props to Rick Hawn. He, on the other hand.. has emerged as a serious WW prospect in this tournament.

    How bout freakin' Chase Beebe???

Bellator is in some dangerous waters right now. EARNING a title shot is a huge thing for them. Expanding on what dubya said, let's look at some of these welterweight tournament fighters who have advanced.

    • Jay Hieron misinforms referee Josh Rosenthall about his opponents state of consciousness Semi-finalist
    • Brent Weedman def. Dan Hornbuckle via split decision that sent the crowd into a boo-fest. Semi-finalist
    • Jay Hieron def. Brent Weedman via unanimous decision that is considered controversial. Finalist
    • Rick Hawn def. Lyman Good via split decision that is also considered controversial. Finalist
    • Jay Hieron def Rick Hawn via split decision that is considered controversial. TOURNAMENT CHAMPION

In a tournament that consists of 7 fights, there were 4 controversial decisions rendered and 1 bad call.

So essentially, both finalists made it there via bad decision and then the champion was crowned with a bad decision. I hope Hieron gets rinsed in his title shot or else things might not be so good for Bellator.

Yeah, but in reality .. the 3 fights in the middle weren't really controversial at all. I think people just wanted the other guy to win or something because I thought Weedman beat Hornbuckle .. I thought Hieron beat Weedman .. Good/Hawn was a really, really close fight .. could've gone either way on that one, to be fair .. However, the first fight .. that guy was definitely not asleep .. and Hieron/Hawn was a bit close, but I think Hawn won pretty soundly.

Good night of fights tonight. Main event was solid and the middleweight fight had a nice knockout.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Sam Alvey does next Saturday. His gym is in the same city I live in.

Bellator got their season-high for ratings with Bellator 44 .. 325,000 viewers. This is where they need to really start promoting. Promote the shit out of all the events that don't have to compete with UFC/Strikeforce.

It's rare that you see a guy really pick great shots like that, he leathered him with 3 or 4 absolute belters amongst those standard gnp shots.

Plus he looks like a G.I Joe action figure.

Bellator will only be doing one even per month over the summer and each show will be each round of a new featherweight tournament.

    Round 1 - June 25th - Bellator 46
    Round 2 - July 23rd - Bellator 47
    Round 3 - August 27th - Bellator 48

I imagine they pick back up in September because the next confirmed event is Bellator 52 in October.

The featherweight tournament bracket and match-ups for Bellator 46:

Genair da Silva vs. Marlon Sandro
    Ronnie Mann vs. Adam Schindler
    Pat Curran vs. Luis Palomino
    Jacob Devree vs. Nazareno Malegarie

I'm not sorry for Seth, Ricco actually has natural talent despite his "hard earned" athletic physique...
Losing all that weight gave him some mad McCorkle tits.

Ricco will decision him or sub him early.

Kinda hard to understand what Ricco went through but given recent interviews his status with the UFC sort of explains his immense weight gain and almost lacklustre attitude.

At least he's back in the mix now, winning ways always come back.

What a good show this was, four very good 145'ers going to the semis. I liked the Brazilian kid in the 'bonus' fight, can't remember his name, Bazeia something?

Yeah, they were all pretty damn good fights. All the winners looked impressive. I'm excited to see the Warren/Pitbull rematch next month.

Ben Askren has already taken to his twitter to trash-talk/challenge Nate Marquardt ..

@nathanmarquardt you are a cheater, not once but frequently. Stop cheating, come to bellator and I will crush you.

I have to say.. the kid's got balls. I could see that fight realistically happening. Theres not really anywhere else that Nate can go where he would get that kind of exposure.

Ben Askren looks like a schoolboy, I imagined a schoolboy saying that to Nate and it made me laugh.

Bellator 51 in Sept. will feature the first round of the Bantamweight tournament for a shot at Zack Makovsky's belt .. the matchups are ..

    Joe Warren vs. Alexis Vila
    Eduardo Dantas vs. Joe Soto
    Luiz Nogueira vs. Ed West
    Chase Beebe vs. Marcos Galvao

Hoping for the eventual Warren/Galvao rematch. Warren/Beebe would be interesting too.

Bellator Season 5 Welterweight Tournament is set to begin on Sept.10 in New Jersey.. Matchups are as follows:

Dan Hornbuckle (22-4) vs. Luis "sapo" Santos (49-6-1)
Ben Saunders (10-3-2) vs. Rick Hawn (11-1)
Brent Weedman (18-6-1) vs. Chris Lozano (8-1)
Douglas Lima (18-4) vs. Steve Carl (14-2)

Hornbuckle/Santos and Saunders/Hawn should both be killer fights.

I saw on Sherdog.com that Lombard was wanting a crack at Marquardt as well. I think that would be a good fight for Lombard to finally beat someone people have heard of, and that is an actual top 10 Middleweight. For too long Lombard has been touted as a top MW but with pretty much nobody on his resume to back it up. A fight with Nate Marquardt would not only be the biggest fight Bellator has ever put on, but the biggest fight Hector's ever had in his career.

Askren v. Marquardt would be boring as fuck, like Okami or Chael v. Marquardt. I don't want to see Nate get LNP'd for 3-5 rounds.

Agreed. He's fighting Jesse Taylor, which by most standards.. isn't that great.. but by his standards, is pretty good. Sucks that its in Australia though. I'd like to watch it. Jesse Taylor could pose some problems for him though. Hard worker.. relentless wrestling.. been in there with better competition than Lombard for the most part.. definitely the best opponent Lombard has had in a while.. and he's on a 5-fight win streak.

Horodecki should drop to FW, he's a chubby 155'er.

    Those semis will be great.

YES! what better way to cure your claustrophobia than locking yourself in a cage with THE VIKING.

I've been saying that since he debuted in the WEC. He really is a chubby 155'er and honestly, his striking style would be better suited at 145.. there's really a lot of wrestlers at 155.

He got absolutely molested by Ryan Schultz who probably was the first semi-decent wrestler he had ever fought. That stoppage was so hilariously bad you'd think it took place in 2011 or something...

    But yeah, 145 for Horodecki.

Yeah. I don't know how well Horodecki would really do at 145, but I think he'd have a much better chance (in general) there because there are probably more wrestlers in MMA than anything these days.

I bet he thumbed himself in the eye on his way to the cage and couldn't continue.

Zach Thumb cannot be a real name.

Bellator has signed Canadian welterweight prospect, Ryan Ford. I've seen him fight before. He's pretty good. Has a win over Karo and beat Pete Spratt twice, both times in the 2nd round, about a minute apart, both times by rear-naked choke. Lol. I love stuff like that.

Alexander Shlemenko defeated Marcos Antonio Santana by TKO in Sochi (Russia), improving his record to 40-7. His next fight will be against Zelg Galesic in the Bellator middleweight quarter-finals. Should be a good one. Most likely an all stand up affair.

Is that in Australia? CFC or whatever it's called.

I have come to the conclusion that Hector Lombard may just be a complete douche. Everytime I hear him talk he just proves me more and more right.

/Speaking of which, I just realized that with the rumored BAMMA/Bellator partnership there really shouldn't be any reason for Lombard/Marquardt not going down.

I heard that some form of business relationship between BAMMA, Bellator, Dream and Golden Glory are in the works. At first I thought M-1 was involved too, but it seems like they're not.

/It won't happen since these sort of things rarely work out, but it would be cool if those four organizations could somehow semi-merge under the same banner, promoting shows in their respective parts of the world while sharing their talent to create a really solid roster of fighters.

    Bellator (US)
    BAMMA (UK)
    Dream (Japan)
    Golden Glory/United Glory (Western Europe)

If M-1 weren't such troublesome fucks to deal with it would be great having them promoting cards in Eastern Europe since they are pretty much the only ones capable of navigating the mine-fields and promote cards there (same as with Dream in Japan). There will be tons of great fighters coming out of the former Soviet Union republics in the next couple of years, M-1 will probably be the first to sign them.

Throw in One FC while we're at it, they have deep pockets and could put on cards and develop talent in Asia, sans Japan.

    [/fantasy booking]

It won't happen since promotors are all greedy, bastard egomaniacs. They would eventually try to con each other, ending up in lawsuits and war between the Russian mob and the Yakuza.

I think I will continue my little fantasy scenario in the MMA thread though, fun stuff to throw around some ideas..

The rumor was of some sort of Co-Op between BAMMA/Dream/Bellator/GG. Probably just some fighter exchange deals, but still.

I will see if I can find it again.

Woooo. Bellator 48 is tomorrow night. I don't think most of you care, but I'm actually really excited to see Pat Curran vs. Marlon Sandro. Should be a great fight. I fully believe that both of these guys could hang with UFC's featherweights. Both are very well-rounded with endless gas tanks. Curran can become the first man to win 2 Bellator tournaments, let alone in 2 different weight classes.. although Joe Warren could also do that later this year.. Konrad/Buentello and Ricco/Seth should be interesting too.

Sandro and Curran are both really good.

    True that.

I'm a little upset with Bjorn Rebney. He's said he's happy where he's at on MTV2 .. wtf is your problem, sir? Spike TV is in about 16 million more homes than MTV2 (namely, my home) and is already known as an MMA-heavy channel. Its a match made in heaven. I hope MTV forces their hand and moves them to Spike anyway. I think it would be better for all involved.

For sure. Spike is the perfect network for Bellator if they want to make any headway. I saw that Spike has the rights to air any UFC event (previously aired on Spike) for up to one year from now. I think that could make for some nice lead-ins to live Bellator shows. Get people to tune in using the UFC name and then keep them with live, quality events.

But, even if Rebney is in talks with Spike he probably won't admit it before it's a done deal.

Yeah, I mean.. not to mention that Spike is 1000x better at advertising their MMA events than MTV2. Its amazing that Bellator pulls the ratings they do, considering you're never told (by MTV anyway) when the fights are actually going to be on..

So, is there anywhere for a Swede without any television options to watch a stream of this Bellator show tonight?

The only luck I ever have is p2p4u.net .. under the UFC/WWE/Boxing link .. they usually have a link, but it doesn't always work. It did last month though. Cross your fingers.

It won't. I use it for UFC and Strikeforce shows all the time. Bellator is just harder to get because a.) less people watch it and b.) less people have MTV2 so c.) less people stream it. Never have any problems with it for UFC or SF though. Its usually pretty quality and no more than 15 seconds behind the broadcast.

Shit, Petruzelli just dropped Ricco Rodriguez and landed 5+ shots afterwards with a somewhat late stoppage/pull off by Dan Miragliotta.

BAM Pat Curran with a highlight headkick KO on Marlo Sandro after losing most of the fight prior. Devastating.

Yeah, that was a freaking epic kick right there. He timed that PERFECTLY. Pat Curran, folks.. the first ever 2-time Bellator tournament champion and first ever to win a Bellator tournament in 2 different weight classes.

I hope they do an interim title fight with him and Pitbull because with Warren in the 135 lb. tournament, what are the 2 guys owed a 145 lb. title shot supposed to do?

    Curran/Sandro KO ->

That's why you shouldn't bob, weave and duck your head when kicks and knees are allowed. Unless you're Anderson Silva of course..

Well yes, but Curran doesn't have Silva's spidey sense.

Excellent win for Petruzzelli. I don't think he'll ever be known as anything other than The Kimbo Killer, but I'm happy to see him win another one.

Is it just me or does Petruzelli, who is unquestionablely a 205 lb. fighter, seem to do better at heavyweight (even though he never weighs more than 215) than he does at 205?

Alvarez/Aoki II might go down in Bellator early next year.
