Amazed by the similarities between Gus up until and the Phil Davis fight and Darren Till up until and the Woodley fight.

I really thought if Till could just survive that vicious barrage on the ground that Woodley would eventually gas giving Till the advantage

BUT IT DIDNT MATTER WHAT I THOUGHT

if I was a WW I would not want to fight Tyrone Woodley

I think Wonderboy could beat him. If I'm being a dick I say Wonderboy beat him both times, breaking it down I can respect why Woodley won their 2nd fight but holy fuck...it was so boring it made everyone forget how incredible their first fight was. If Wonderboy wins his next fight and Woodley retains against whoever (I get people are saying Colby but GSP is the answer), run it back 1 last time.

T-Wood did say he wanted a quick turnaround, and Toronto needs a main event.

Woodley vs. Colby is a possibility for 230, but New York could do with running a card without an idiot on it after the Conor/Khabib debacle. Nate's already risking it. 11 champions and only 1 with an (official) title defence on slate at the minute. Cejedo, Dillashaw, Holloway, Woodley, Shevchenko and Namajunas will surely find themselves in title fights between November and January so it's going to be double title heavy here on out. Woodley/Covington, Cejedo/Johnson 3, Dillashaw/Cruz 2 (with Garbrandt, Moraes, Assauncao and Lineker paired off), Cyborg/Nunes, Holloway/Ortega (with Aldo getting a fight too), GSP hopefully, Jones maybe. Could be a big end to the year.

    Serious question

Has Woodley's past claims of racism affected his rise to the top as a real draw? He was crying racism for not being received like Conor McGregor and then made excuses for why Jon Jones, Rampage, and Rashad (just to name a few) were gigantic draws for the company.

Maybe not just the claims of racism but just his overall bitchiness and then the second he wins the belt he calls out Nick Diaz lol. I don't know. What is it that has fans not fully behind T-Wood? I'm not that big of a fan, he's so hit and miss for me. For every Till performance he has 10 Wonderboy 2 performances. Then you add his whining and thinking because he's black that's why he doesn't get the kind of love McGregor gets....

Tough one. I don't think he's done himself any favours by speaking out in terms of being a draw, but it's absolutely his prerogative to raise a grievance if he feels one is there. He's one of the most decent human beings in the sport so his lack of popularity has always puzzled me, but I don't think it's race. Cormier is popular, guys like Kevin Lee and Derek Brunson have had promotional muscle behind them and so on. He grew up in St Louis I think so it's probably a lifelong issue.

Jose Aldo is saying he's making his lightweight debut in Toronto. I like the available match-ups for him in and around the top 5 - Alvarez, Lee and Gaethje would all be banging fights that he can win.

Fabricio Werdum has been suspended for 2 years following his failed USADA test back in April. And that's a wrap.

Heavyweight is weird, wouldn't surprise me if he came back and hovered around the top 10 again even at 43.

Anybody catch Snoop Doggy Dogg's rant during Woodley/Till? Comically repeating "Fuck Donald Trump" as the American beat the piss out of the English lad.

I know the dude can't read but still...He thought homeboy was Colby Covington. He probably doesn't keep up on shit and the last time he heard about T-Wood fighting it was back when he was going to fight Colby. Snoop is just an idiot. I haven't liked his shit since Half Baked.

He definitely thought it was Covington, presumably because to him all white people look alike.

Nevermind the fact that he is also on the UFC's payroll calling it's fighters punk bitches.

Polish Jan unbelievably is on the verge of title contention at 205. He lost to Patrick Cummins a year and a half ago. Patrick Cummins.

This is a couple of days old but Jimi Manuwa pulled out of his upcoming Brazil main event vs Thiago Santos, and Eryk Anders has stepped in. Will be at 205lbs.

Yeah, i won't be watching that show. One of the poorer events on record, for US primetime anyway. Not a whole lot going on beyond faded "legends" (Barao, Lil Nog, Lombard, Leites, Dunham) probably having their last fights with losses.

Yeah it's one of those cards where I recognize quite a few names, even one of my top 30 favorites Ben Saunders is on the undercard....but yeah I don't even know the majority of the fighters on this one well enough to give a shit. The main event, even if Jimi Manuwa was still in it, does zero for me. Thiago Santos...wow. Anders, yay.

All we can hope for is the legends like Lil' Nog get a W and call it a day. Or Sam Alvey is going to have a pointless W on his resume.

You know both guys in the main event tbf. Anders is the guy that main evented vs Machida and recently scored a nasty knockout on a prelim card that you commented on. Santos is the guy that got beat by Mousasi at UFC 200.

Ah yeah that's right Anders had that weird kick to the face KO. Here's the thing, I'm vaguely familiar with some of these fighters but not enough to really warrant interest.

There's just too many fighters, too many events to keep up lol

McGregor dropped his new whiskey. The upcoming press conference with him and Khabib is now open to the public via purchasing a bottle or two of the new whiskey. Smart. We used to do that shit a lot where you would throw a show and fans could get in for free if they brought canned goods or a toy depending on the charity we were working with. A lot of bands/artists have done this for many years. Cool to see McGregor doing something similar.

Looking forward to the press conference tomorrow. These Conor fights all grow in interest exponentially after them. Both very entertaining trash talkers and with the needle it should be quite the spectacle.

I actually really like the undercard too. Ferguson/Pettis, Lewis/Volkov and Formiga/Pettis are all pretty much top contender fights (though all 3 will likely have to wait for Brock, Diaz if he beats Diamond, and Mighty Mouse respectively). O'Malley, Ladd and Reyes are genuine undefeated prospects getting steps up in competition. One of those that's full of interesting fights without spunking away anybody with name value who can be used elsewhere.

The real draw of this fight is Karate Hottie v. Felice Herrig. Let's not pretend that every man, woman, and whatever in between isn't waiting feverishly for them to grapple and the gifs to follow.

Jones can fight again on October 28 and MSG is on November 3. Bones/Gus II (finally..) would be pretty cool. Wouldn't they try to do Bones/DC III though?

How many chances is this guy going to get? A DUI, an arrest for leaving the scene of a hit and run with drugs in his car, a positive test for cocaine, 2 positive tests for PED's, on top of living a life in public of complete delusion. Greatest talent in the sport's history, but come on.

Absolute joke of a human. Apparently got his sentence reduced so drastically by snitching on his supplier as well. At least as long as he fights there's a chance I get to see somebody kick his head in.

I'm not entirely sure the Conor dolly deal wasn't set up by the UFC. Convenient that there were about 8 different camera shots used for the promo package.

Compared to every other press conference he's been part of this was weak. You don't have to act like an emotionally unstable tween girl just because I didn't think it was the greatest shit of all time every time he farts and coughs lol.

That would mean I don't know what fun is. If what you saw yesterday satisfied you awesome my brother I have no qualms. But me personally, I'm just used to more. It'd be like going to see Rob Van Dam wrestle and the only high spot he did was the rolling thunder. I want to see the 5 star frogsplash, the Van Daminator, the top rope side kick, the topes, the planchas.

We've been spoiled. Been forever since McGregor was on the stage with a mute.

Loads of great quotes. It was missing the raucous crowd and the energy that brings the combatants, but it was very entertaining.

That x100. There was just a lack of energy and McGregor tried his best, re-quoting everything he's already said on twitter about Khabib and trying to deliver what fans of his expect.

    A for effort.

You're so dumb. It wasn't Conor's fault the stadium was empty, in fact he ridiculed Dana at the very beginning of the conference over it. I doubt you were paying attention as you're too busy being mad.

Great, here come the "insults" because I'm not a dick rider.

I was literally coming back here to edit my post and even make the point that even Conor starts it off with wondering where the fuckin fans are.

So again, you can drink the sweat from his jock after UFC 229 and bottle the rest of whatever he dropped on your face last night after the fact but keep your brain functioning at a reasonable level.

Mad about what? lol. That I didn't think it was the greatest shit ever like you?

I enjoyed parts of it too but it was still weak.

I hate using this word but holy shit I've never encountered a keyboard warrior so triggered when it comes to a fighter in my entire life.

My bad Mark, it was the greatest presser ever. The zingers were top notch, Conor smoked every past presser he's ever done. Man this was gold!! #Conor4EVER

I bet your favorite line was right at the end when he busted out Ali about his son Noah that he owes 50k in back child support. Or the blue lips part, which was actually my favorite.

He always does a great job. He's like Eminem slaying MGK and all these other goofs.

Sadly, I don't think Khabib gave 1 fuck about anything Conor had to say. That's the downside, that's why I said it was weak. It's much better when it's back and forth. Sorry, I know the word WEAK is apparently like you calling me the N word judging by your ridiculous reaction but it was IN COMPARISON to what we expect. Everyone I know who watched this said the same shit, Conor lived up to his end but it just didn't feel as exciting as it could have been. I blame that on the lack of fans, the energy was missing. Again, A for effort on Conor's part but shit I'm already sold on this and have been for awhile.

Undefeated killer v. arguably the best in the world in MMA today. What else do you need as a fan to be drawn to this?

PS-Ask your liquor store, they'll get that whiskey to you. $25 plus S/H

For everything Jones has done wrong, snitching on a peds dealer is not one of them, it makes him a shitty friend, but if you want to clean up the sport, surely you want peds dealers out of it.

I truly hope DC and Gus beat him clean though.

PED dealers and multi-offenders should be gone. Jones shouldn't be getting let off because somebody else can be brought to justice, that's my point. He's a weasel.

Still no main event for UFC 230. Surely they're not waiting until 229 to announce it? It must be something decent they're working on else they'd have just promoted Diaz vs. Poirier to a 5 round contest I think. The worry is they'll rush the Dillashaw vs. Cejedo "super fight" out there, which I'm only really interested in if it's at flyweight. TJ deserves the crack at history considering he's been a championship level fighter for nearly 5 years and beaten the #1 contender at 135 twice. Cejedo not so much, with zero title defences and only a title victory via split decision to his name. What else could there be? Would Dillashaw vs. Cruz 2 sell? Dillashaw vs. Moraes could be interesting as a live spectacle since Moraes is based in New York, but he's not well known worldwide. Just seems strange that for the last two years MSG has had three title fights each year, with the undercard and prelims full of ranked contenders and former champions, and this year they've currently got no main event, no title and probably only four fights (Weidman/Rockhold, Diaz/Poirier, Branch/Jacare and Brunson/Israel) of any real value, with 5 weeks to go. According to Dana "he's still working on it", but what fighter with any name value is taking a fight on that notice?

I've seen a lot of people online shouting down the possible addition of 165lbs because "too many titles killed boxing". Nothing to do with the alphabet soup and fractured promotional landscape no. For a sport that isn't even remotely dead. 165 (and thus 170 becoming 175) is absolutely the right call to make whether right now or a little down the line. 155 and 170 are individually so deep that they can cover it. 155 has guys like Khabilov, Makhachev, Teymur, Taisumov, Gillespie, Patrick, Santos, Dober, guys on 3+ UFC win streaks that can't sniff a top fight that would slot into the rankings if big 155ers like Diaz and Khabib moved up. Welterweight already has Masvidal, RDA and the two Cowboy's who are a little too big for 155 but would slot in perfectly. Then you've got guys like Milender, Luque, Zaleski, Muhammad, Moraes, Matthews, Krause, Fabinski again guys on win streaks in the Octagon that can't buy a ranked fight. That also doesn't cover guys at 185 and 145 that might move down and up because they won't be fighting borderline 170lb fighters at lightweight. It would be a win win for people that want to see relevant fights I think.

155 and 170 are the two most bloated divisions by far, I think the UFC has roughly 100 fighters in each one. Don't think it would be a bad thing to spread those 200 fighters over 155/165/175. Poirier/Diaz wouldn't be a bad fight for the inaugural 165 title either I guess.

I don't know but why not just have Diaz v. Poirier 5 rounds. They've had way shittier main events this year on ppv and this will be a FOTY candidate hands down with ease.

So, how can this even be on the table when Romero couldn't fight Costa on the same card due to injury/surgery?

How fucking stupid are the UFC and why is Romero some god to them? The fuck is this old man even bringing to the table? What fans are all about Yoel Romero?

And I know he's a fellow Swede but Gus needs to prove he's not made of glass before giving him anything that comes with a belt. Interim belts don't mean jack shit and Gus is so desperate to get gold he'll do whatever...except actually fight.

I was hoping Jones-Gus but I get that they want serious time to build Jones' return apparently.

That is just an absurd option. I love Romero, mad cunt, but how is that fight bigger than Diaz vs. Poirier and Weidman vs. Rockhold already on the same card? That's not taking into account the logistics of Romero moving up to 205 after a loss, and after missing weight two title fights in a row. Then he goes straight into a title fight? On the same card that he pulled out of already? Against a guy that has pulled out of more fights than Rockhold has supermodels? Come on. Not buying it. Just make Diaz and Poirier five rounds, and put some name guys on with short notice against scrubbers, a la that Brazil card where Anderson fought Stephan Bonnar. Nick Diaz vs. Darron Stewart and Dominick Cruz vs. Thomas Almeida or some shit. Unless Dillashaw is ready to defend against Cruz or Moraes.

Nate/Dustin headlining a 5 rounder in MSG with the implication that the winner gets the winner of Khabib/McGregor is a huge fight imo.

And again....what is the fascination with Yoel Romero? He's old, can't make weight, probably blowing someone at USADA.

I'm in no way condoning the introduction of another interim title but wouldn't Gustafsson vs Smith been at least marginally more acceptable? Why Romero?

Yeah I mean at least it's a dude on a 2 fight win streak with all of his UFC wins coming via Knockout in brutal fashion. Gus don't want none of that Smith Smoke. Probably saw that dude's highlights and started having flashbacks of the Rumble KO.

It's worth noting that while Dana is denying it, Nate Diaz has actually announced that his fight vs Poirier is for the debuting 165lb title. I wish Dana would just do it. Would anyone complain?

lol yeah him and Dustin both posted bullshit tweets saying that they were fighting for the 165lbs. championship. The ONLY way I could see that is if they're wanting McGregor to get 3 titles. Let's say McGregor loses to Khabib but Nate beats DP, next thing you know we have the trilogy ending with a brand spanking new belt for McGregor to gun for and then bathe in his whiskey sauce.

The Aussie fight card in December is looking like an increasingly rare watchable Fight Night (seriously... what the fuck was that card over the weekend? And the upcoming Smith/Volkan and Magny/Ponz shows). Main event is JDS against Tai Tuivasa, Mark Hunt is facing Justin Willis, Shogun's fighting Tyson Pedro, Wilson Reis vs. Ben Nguyen. Guessing Volkanovski gets a ranked opponent on the main card (Emmett, Swanson or Lamas?), as well as Jake Matthews getting a step up. The Aussie shows are usually a lot of fun, they love a scrap and get behind their fighters but it's not so vitriolic and tribal like the Brazilian cards. All those Aussies come to fight as well.

Crazy thing that struck me is that at first I thought that a Jon Jones coming off a long layoff could be Gus' best shot to beat him, Jones versus OSP was probably the worst he's ever looked. Then it struck me that Jones last fight was against DC on July 29, 2017 while Gustafsson's last fight was versus Glover Texeira on May 28, 2017.. So I guess they'd be pretty even steven when it comes to inactivity and ring-rust. Gus has also had some injuries in that time span, which Jones has not.

Also crazy (and annoying for me) is that I actually spent a small fortune to fly to Las Vegas to watch Jones/Gus 2.. In 2014.

UFC 178 actually was a pretty sweet card. McGregor v. Poirier, Cerrone v. Alvarez, that weird Romero-Kennedy fight, the last time Nunes lost v. Cat Zigano, the return of Dom Cruz with his first finish in like 20 years against Mizugaki in a minute, Wonderboy on the undercard against Cote. Damn just imagine Jones-Gus 2 aas the headliner, that might have been one of the best UFC shows of all time.

My brother actually left the MGM Grand before the main event, he was so pissed with Jones/Gus 2 and then Jones/DC 2 ending up being a Mighty Mouse FLW squash. But yeah, all in all it was a pretty good card anyway.

It's probably one of them ultimate retrospective cards. How were we to know that:

    - Demetrious Johnson would break the title defence streak record.

    - Eddie Alvarez would become UFC champion.

    - Amanda Nunes would become UFC champion.

    - Dominick Cruz would complete his comeback and regain his UFC title.

    - Yoel Romero, Donald Cerrone, Cat Zingano, Kevin Lee and Wonderboy Thompson would go on to challenge, on multiple occasions, for the title.

    - Dustin Poirier would become a top 5 lightweight.

    - Conor McGregor would become the biggest combat sports star of the decade!

When it happened it was a fun card with some great finishes, and obviously there was a bit of buzz about Conor, but nobody could foresee all of that. NINE of the 20 fighters beside the main event challenged for a title after that, with Poirier surely a win away. It was only 4 years ago. Compare it 179 where only Wilson Reis clawed his way into a title fight and you see how big that card sits.

So, in retrospect it was pretty cool that I was there live then.

I can also "boast" that I was in attendance for Conor's first UFC fight as well I guess (UFC on Fuel TV, April 6, 2013). Also Alexander Gustafsson's UFC debut at UFC 105 in Manchester. Had already seen him twice on smaller shows here in Sweden though (Superior Challenge/The Zone FC). I always lol when I think about the Gus/Hamman fight since my brother was busy trying to attach the Swedish flag to the railing behind us when the bell rang and missed the entire fight, all 41 seconds of it. He was so pissed, flew to Manchester to see Gus' UFC debut and he missed all of it.

Took this pic outside the MGM Grand:

An amazing hindsight card indeed, still a "beat the traffic" main event though.

Going from Gus/Jones II to DC/Jones to Mighty Mouse/Chris Cariaso was like getting slapped with a wet fish indeed.

Thankfully it was so short that I actually caught up with my brother just outside the venue.

I like him because he's a knockout guy that's super entertaining when he talks. Do you mean he's insane in a bad way? I've always heard he's a good guy.

Unless you count Randy Couture "defending" the interim title in his unification fight with Tito Ortiz, DC will become the first fighter to successfully defend a World title in 2 weight classes. GSP and BJ Penn both had cups of coffee with the WW and MW titles respectively, and we know the Conor story. Dan Henderson left PRIDE (well, it closed) and Strikeforce before his V.1 defences at 205, and Joe Warren never defended a full version of either Bellator title he won. More attempted history for one of the all time greats. If his career ends with a win here and a win against Brock by March, he'll retire 23-1, a tournament win at heavyweight, 2 title defences at heavyweight, 3 at light heavyweight, with heavyweight all time greats Mir, Barnett and Miocic on the resume, as well as 2 all time greats in Anderson and Hendo. Jon Jones may be the better fighter, he may have beat DC, but he's got some catching up to do.

There will also always be the "would clean Jon Jones have beaten DC or not" questions. Bones is super talented for sure but roids are the real deal, would Belfort have demolished Rockhold, Hendo and Bisping without his mega dosed TRT? Fairly unlikely.

For some reason it feels like Jones in the OSP fight is as close to how he looks and fights when clean. Yeah, people will say "ring rust" but he was off pretty much the exact same time between DC I and OSP as he was between OSP and DC II.

I'm guessing DC/Lewis means no DC/Jones III at HW or LHW then and Lesnar will be the final fight of DC's career, all assuming he beats Lewis like he should.

Not at all, a very good insane. I don't think it's a great idea for him to take a fight vs DC one month after this last fight but his performance and post-fight interview Saturday had me rolling.

Diaz saying that since Poirier fight is off, he wants Khabib when he's ready. Lost his last fight two years ago and wants a title shot?

Both Diaz brothers are brain dead. Nick did an "interview" the other day saying he knows for sure he could beat Khabib but he doesn't know what weight it would be at it, maybe 165 lol.

Yes please. Eddie is sort of a fatass between fights though, think he weighs almost 190.

It's official. Jones-Gus 2 at UFC 232 for the LHW strap. DC will be stripped as soon as the fight starts. Cormier just released a statement with TMZ Sports a few hours ago stating his last fight will be next year against Jones for the LHW strap so he must have known this was coming.

They also had that confrontation in Mexico after the Alvarez/Melendez fight, so some backstory to build off of there. Many don't know/remember but Eddie was supposed to fight Nick Diaz on the last EliteXC card as well.

    LOVED Elite XC.

I just looked up that would-be final card. They also had Scott Smith v. Hector Lombard on tap.
